• Is there a way to trace through only project source in Delphi?

  I'm using Delphi 2010 and I'm wondering if there's a way to trace through code which is in the project without tracing through calls to included VCLs. For example - you put in a breakpoint and then use Shift+F7 to trace through line-by-line. Now you run into a call to some lengthy procedure in a VCL - in my case it's often a Measurement Studio or other component that draws the doodads for a bunch of I/O, OPC, or other bits. At any rate, what happens is that the debugger hops out of the active source file, opens the component source, and traces through that line by line. Often this is hundreds or thousands of lines of code I don't care about - I just want to have it execute and return to the next source line in MY project. Obviously you can do this by setting breakpoints around every instance of an external call, but often there are too many to make this practical - I'd be spending an hour setting a hundred breakpoints every time I wanted to step through a section of code. Is there a setting or a tool somewhere that can do this? Allow one to trace through code within the project while silently executing code which is external to the project? Of course it would be possible to build a managed C++ assembly to perform this function for C# and VB.NET code, but I'm wondering: is there a way to translate COM error codes using the .NET system libraries?

• Java HTTP Request Occasionally Hangs

  Hello Everyone, For the majority of the time, my HTTP Requests work with no problem. However, occasionally they will hang. The code that I am using is set up so that if the request succeeds (with a response code of 200 or 201), then call screen.requestSucceeded(). If the request fails, then call screen.requestFailed(). When the request hangs, however, it does so before one of the above methods are called. Is there something wrong with my code? Should I be using some sort of best practice to prevent any hanging? • Variable declarations following if statements

  An issue came up on another forum and I knew how to fix it, but it revealed a feature of the compiler peculiar to me. The person was getting the error "Embedded statement cannot be a declaration or labeled statement" because they had a declaration of a variable following an if statement with no brackets. That was not their intent, but they had commented out the line of code immediately following the if statement, which made the variable declaration the de facto line of code to execute. Anyway, that's the background, which brings me to this. The following code is illegal if (true) int i = 7; However, if you wrap that in brackets, it's all legal. if (true) { int i - 7; } Neither piece of code is useful. Yet the second one is OK. What specifically is the explanation for this behavior? I have a hypothesis, but I'd rather ask the brilliant people on stackoverflow.

  Are there any books or articles that show you how to use NUnit to test entire features of a program? Is there a name for this type of testing? This is different from the typical use of NUnit for unit testing where you test individual classes. This is similar to acceptance testing except that it is written by the developer to discern that the program does what they interpreted as being what the customer wants the program to do. I don't need it to be readable by non-programmers or to produce a readable specification for non-programmers. The problem I am having is keeping this feature testing code maintainable. I need help in organizing my feature testing code. I also need help organizing the program code to be drivable in this way. I am having a hard time being able to issue commands to the program while still having good code design.

  I'm trying to profile my code to check how long it takes to execute some parts of my code. I've wrapped my most time-consuming part of the code in something like that: DateTime start = DateTime.Now; ... ... // Here comes the time-consuming part ... Console.WriteLine((DateTime.Now - start).Miliseconds); The program is executing this part of code for couple of seconds (about 20 s) but in console I get the result of something about 800 miliseconds. Why is that so? What am I doing wrong?

  Summary I have looked over the code the SpiderMonkey 'shell' application uses to create the ctypes JavaScript object, but I'm a less-than novice C programmer. Due to the varying levels of insanity emitted by modern build systems, I can't seem to track down the code or command that actually links a program with the desired functionality. method.madness This js-ctypes implementation by The Mozilla Devs is an awesome addition. Since its conception, scripting has been primarily used to exert control over more rigorous and robust applications. The advent of js-ctypes to the SpiderMonkey project, enables JavaScript to stand up and be counted as a full fledged object oriented rapid application development language flying high above 'the bar' set by various venerable application development languages such as Microsoft's VB6. Shall we begin? I built SpiderMonkey with this config: ./configure --enable-ctypes --with-system-nspr followed by successful execution of: make && make install The js shell works fine and a global ctypes javascript object was verified operational in that shell. • Way to get VS 2008 to stop forcing indentation on namespaces?

  I've never really been a big fan of the way most editors handle namespaces. They always force you to add an extra pointless level of indentation. For instance, I have a lot of code in a page that I would much rather prefer formatted as namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } and not something like namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } Honestly, I don't really even like the class thing being indented most of the time because I usually only have 1 class per file. And it doesn't look as bad here, but when you get a ton of code and lot of scopes, you can easily have indentation that forces you off the screen, and plus here I just used 2-space tabs and not 4-space as is used by us. Anyway, is there some way to get Visual Studio to stop trying to indent namespaces for me like that?

I have an ASP.NET sitemap. Some elements must be displayed only to logged in users. Others must be displayed only to one, unique user (ie. administrator, identified by a user name which will never change). What I want to avoid: Set a custom role provider: too much code to write for a such basic thing, Transform the existing code, for example by removing sitemap and replacing it by a code-behind solution. What I want to do: A pure code-behind solution which will let me assign roles on authenticate event. Is it possible? How? If not, is there an easy-to-do workaround?

• How do I name an array key with a key inside the array

  I have some data, yes, data. This data came from a MySQL query and it will always contain 4 items, always. I want to cache that data in an array table for use later within a web page but I want to keep the keys from the query and separate out each grouping within a multidimensional array. However to save time iterating through the array each time I want to find a given group of data, I want to call the keys of the first array the same as the ID key which is always the first key within each four items. I know I need another loop but I'm struggling to work out how to write it.

  Hi guys, Is there any way to find out if ASP.Net runtime has served a cached copy of ASPX page or actually went through the page life cycle? Here is my problem: I'm seeing many entries in my IIS log files that were served successfully (200 OK). I've a corresponding logging code (Log4Net API) in the Session_Start and Application_BeginRequest() events that is logging every request to my DB with more details. I'm not seeing any corresponding entries in my SQL DB for some cases that should have been created by Log4Net code. Are there any logs available to find out if a cached copy was served by .NET worker process? Moreover, if my logging code would throw an exception, won't that show up as 500 in IIS logs? The code is on Windows 2008 Server, IIS 7.
