• Oracle Virtualbox on statically compiled kernel

  I can't seem to find any documentation on the subject. I'm working on putting together a linux install for a fairly "dirty" environment. Best practice there would be a statically compiled kernel with no module support. I can already do the customizations to strip out unnecessary drivers/etc to get the performance and disable module support. Does anyone have a link or any ideas on how to get the Oracle Virtualbox module (not the OSE one, I need USB passthrough) compiled in?

• How do I map some subdirectories to run alongside a Drupal site?

That directory is currently empty. With the vhosts file the way it is, does the Directory directive have any effect at all? I want to add some content which is separate from the Drupal site. How do I add sub-directories within /var/www/bananas.net/ which can be accessed alongside the Drupal site running at the root? As they have nothing to do with the Drupal site, I want to keep the files separate, but still using the same domain.

• Local dns for testing websites using mobile devices

  Hi. I have no idea where to start from so sorry in advance if this topic has already been discussed. I usually develop web sites using my laptop as a development server, and recently I needed to test a web site using various mobile devices that can connect via wifi. Having no real AP, I set up a ad-hoc network using my laptop's wireless card and the devices can correctly browse the Internet and access the laptop's web server. The setup is as follows: subnet: 192.168.1.0/24 gateway to the Internet (wired adsl router/modem): 192.168.1.1 laptop: 192.168.1.64 (eth0, wired if connected to the gateway) and 192.168.1.32 (eth1, wifi if somewhat bridged to eth0) mobile devices (same for all, I only use one of them at any time for simplicity): 192.168.1.11 with default gw 192.168.1.1 Now, if I open either 192.168.1.32 or 192.168.1.64 from the mobile devices, I correctly get the default host of my Apache configuration. However I usually work with virtual hosts for many practical reasons, one of which being Drupal's peculiar implementation of multi-sites. For those who don't know how this works, Drupal takes the request's hostname and searches into its sites/ subdirectories for an appropriate configuration file. So, for example, suppose I request www.example.com, then Drupal would search for a config file in the following directories: sites/www.example.com/ sites/example.com/ sites/com/ sites/default/ So I decided to adopt the following style of virtual hosts: if the website I'm working on will be accessible using www.example.com I set up a sites/www.example.com/ directory and create a virtual host for local.www.example.com so Drupal have no trouble finding it. I've been told this is suboptimal from a dns point of view since I'd have to create an authoritative entry for example.com and turn Bind on only when I'm supposed to access the local copy, which is weird. However, if this is the only path I can follow, I still have some problems with Bind's configuration, as I couldn't find any guide that tells me in a clear, noob-friendly way, how to set up such an entry. On the other hand, I was wondering if I could set up an authoritative entry for local, so I could access www.example.com.local and tell in some way (which I don't even know if this is possible) Apache to put www.example.com instead of www.example.com.local in the relevant environment variable. Anyway, I have a last problem, sort of: when I launch Bind in debug mode with high verbosity, and make 192.168.1.32 as the primary dns for the devices, the output doesn't say anything about requests being made from the devices to Bind, so I'm not even sure it comes into play. As you can see, I'm a complete noob at these matters, but I'm eager to learn, so any help/pointer will be appreciated.

  I looked through the other posts and bug reports and couldn't figure out what's causing this. I'm using Jython 2.5.1, in a Java project in Eclipse (Ubuntu 8.10). It has been added to the project as a standalone .jar file (I just replaced the old Jython 2.1 jar with this one). I'm running a script that uses the threading.py class. At some point the statement "import os" is evaluated from linecache.py and I get this error, which I can't seem to figure out how to fix: 'Execution failed.   I'm learning Composite Application Block and I've hit a rock about services. I have my shell application in its own solution, and of course a test module in its own solution (developed and testing completely independent and external of the shell solution). If I created a service named "Sql Service", would I need to put this in it's own library, so that both the shell, and the module know the types? If that's the case, then for good practice, should I put the service project in the shell solution, or external just like a module (in it's own solution), even though it's not loaded as a module? Then, what about references? Should the shell reference this directly, add then add the service? Or load it as a module and add the service? I have a lot of confusion on where I should create my services, and if I should reference or load as modules..

• In Drupal, how to change the values passed to Pathauto?

  I have Pathauto configured to generate an alias based on the title of a node, for a specific content type. The problem is that I want to make small changes in this title before Pathauto uses it to generate the alias. The first comment in this post suggests the use of hook_token_values, but I couldn't really understand how to use it, even after reading the docs. In my tests, when I implement this hook, the alias generated is always "array", which means I'm missing something. Any help? Thanks.

Using var_dump(get_defined_vars()); I'm able to see that the dimensions are being outputted independently, but can't seem to get them to print. on the page. What is the proper way to call the dimensions individually?

So for instance if I would like to build the module "Model" in the picture and only it , it seems reasonable for me to click the package step on it. But what is actually does it invokes the mvn package step inside this specific module rather than "mvn -am -pl module-name" from the root module , which also builds all the dependencies.   I'm creating about 150 nodes programmatically and running into 'out of memory' errors when doing it all in a single request. (I have a menu callback that generates the nodes and calls node_save() on them.) Example: for($i=0; $i<150; $i++) { $node = new stdClass(); $node->title="Foo $i"; $node->field_myfield[0]['value'] = "Bar $i"; ... node_save($node); } I've heard of BatchAPI, but never used it. Is that the right tool to get around this? The docs talk about timeouts, but not memory issues. Is there something simpler that I might be missing?

All goes well and for tid=10 (for instance), the filtered page url is cat/10?field_no_people_value=5 Now, when I expose the filter in a block, the argument, tid, goes away and I get cat/all?field_no_people_value=5 . Obviously, filtering by tid doesn't happen anymore. How should I get around this?

• Drupal site requires a higher memory limit after migration? Why?

  Hello. We have a website which had a previous memory limit of 12 MB (12 MB in php.ini, and 16 MB in settings.php) and worked previously. After moving to a new server it started giving memory limit errors and displaying half-blank screen. We increaded the limit in both files (php.ini and settings.php) and now it works, but I dont understand how is it possible that now it needs a considerably larger amount of memory (it used to work with 12 MB, now it cont work with less than 20 MB).

• Druapl & Regular PHP Integration

  I'm building a new website which has one core application and many content pages. Content pages are mostly dynamic and I require a way to manage this dynamic content on a regular basis. The core application's main functionality is a 3 step process or reading user data (input page), reading data from MySQL (product page) and submitting an application to an email address (application page). Ideally I would like to build the core application in regular PHP and leverage Drupal for its content management capabilities. Can Drupal and regular PHP be integrated as I suggest easily? My feeling is that coding the core application as a Drupal module(s) will add layers of complexity that could be difficult to code from the outset and maintain later on as the system matures - so I would really like to just use regular PHP. Let me explain where dynamic content (managed by the CMS) intersects with the core application: Dynamic content such as FAQ data is used both on the 'normal' help pages and also within a mini-feed displayed within core application pages down a right hand side column. In this column, 3 random questions are pulled from the database and displayed as a feed. When users click on FAQ question they are not taken away from the core application product page but are instead shown data in a pop-up window displaying the question and answer. In addition, users can browse other questions and answers through a simple navigation menu within this popup. There are 3 such like feeds as I describe above that I require on the core application product page. So, what is the ideal solution here in terms of 'keeping things simple' for both the management of dynamic content and the ease of coding the core application? Can 'regular PHP' and Drupal co-exist 'peacefully'? If so, how is this technically possible? Because there is some content managed by Drupal contained within core application pages, can the core application still be coded in regular PHP? Any advice / suggestions? Thank you! Jim.
