    I have code in one of the source file as follows: #include <stdio.h> #include <math.h> int a ; int b = 256 ; int c = 16 ; int d = 4 ; int main() { if ((d <= (b) && (d == ( c / sizeof(a)))) { printf("%d",sizeof(a) ); } return 0; } I have removed the casts and have simplified on the data names. The sizeof(a) can be taken as 4. I want to know if the the if syntax is a valid one and if so why doesn't it execute? PS : I haven't sat down on this for long due to time constraints. Pardon me if you find a childish error in the code.

  • How to enable logging for Google Chrome in Ubuntu 12.04?

    I'm trying to capture the logs for a certain bug I'm having with Google Chrome. However, I can't find/enable logs for GC. According to this Chromium project page, I just need to add the flags --enable-logging --v=1 and a chrome_debug.log file will appear in my user data directory. However, after running GC (and closing through the 'X' title bar button) there is no chrome_debug.log file in the specified directory. I even tried running as root as it may have something to do with write permissions but GC refuses to start as root. Another thing, GC also prints messages when invoked from command line. I tried capturing this and redirecting them to a file via $ google-chrome > today.log but the messages are still printed in the command line and the file I specify gets created but remains empty. Note that I can't just copy-paste the messages printed on terminal after my bug occurs as the bug freezes up my whole system that, when it occurs, my only option is to turn off my computer straight via the power button. I've seen a few similar bugs already posted but I find that they don't exactly describe my situation so I'd really like to get some logs for this. So how do I enable logging or, at least, get those terminal messages in a file?

    When I convert an EXR file sequence with x264 using FFmpeg and convert the colorspace from linear to SRGB (with gamma 0.45454545) I get some heavy banding issues (most visible on a dark gradient).     I have installed a bridge tproxy proxy in a fast server with 8GB ram. The traffic is around 60Mb/s. When I start for first time the proxy (with the cache empty) the proxy works very well but when the cache becomes full (few hours later) the bridge goes very slow, the traffic goes below 10Mb/s and the proxy server becomes unusable. Any hints of what may be happening?     I am trying to compile a C program on Ubuntu precise 12.04. Initially it did not find cc1 so I added a soft link.     My coworker and I recently got into a debate over a proposed plan at our workplace. We've more or less finished transitioning our Java codebase into one managed and built with Maven. Now, I'd like for us to integrate with Hudson and Sonar or something similar. My reasons for this are that it'll provide a 'zero-click' build step to provide testers with new experimental builds, that it will let us deploy applications to a server more easily, that tools such as Sonar will provide us with well-needed metrics on code coverage, Javadoc, package dependencies and the like. He thinks that the overhead of getting up to speed with two new frameworks is unacceptable, and that we should simply double down on documentation and create our own scripts for deployment. Since we plan on some aggressive rewrites to pay down the technical debt previous developers incurred (gratuitous use of Java's Serializable interface as a file storage mechanism that has predictably bit us in the ass) he argues that we can document as we go, and that we'll end up changing a large swath of code in the process anyways. I contend that having accurate metrics that Sonar (or fill in your favorite similar tool) provide gives us a good place to start for any refactoring efforts, not to mention general maintenance -- after all, knowing which classes are the most poorly documented, even if it's just a starting point, is better than seat-of-the-pants guessing. Am I wrong, and trying to introduce more overhead than we really need? Some more background: an alumni of our company is working at a Navy research lab now and suggested these two tools in particular as one they've had great success with using. My coworker and I have also had our share of friendly disagreements before -- he's more of the "CLI for all, compiles Gentoo in his spare time and uses Git" and I'm more of a "Give me an intuitive GUI, plays with XNA and is fine with SVN" type, so there's definitely some element of culture clash here.

My problem is the only listings in my /etc/crypttab are several cryptswap; it does not list any sdX_crypt. I currently have a /dev/sda1 (ext2), which is the boot point, and /dev/mapper/ubuntu-root, which is my ext4 partition. Any ideas as to how to enable TRIM?

  • How do I disable the "enable/disable wireless" shortcut key on my laptop?

    On my Dell Studio XPS 16, I sometimes accidentally hit this key. Wireless becomes disabled, and hitting it again does not re-enable wireless. I have to hit it an odd number of times, then restart my computer to re-enable wireless. I can't imagine a situation in which I would want to disable wireless from my keyboard. Is it possible just disable the key all-together, so I can avoid this problem? On a related note, what package do I file the bug against? I'm happy just disabling the key, but that's really just a workaround.

I feel like the rails books and websites that I've seen are program by example, and I have yet to see anything like a complete reference. In the java/spring world there is plenty of examples but also very thorough reference manuals. So even though I can get toy application xyz up and running in an afternoon with rails I'm apprehensive about doing anything of significance. I'm willing to admit that maybe this is because I've done java/spring for a few years and have near zero experience with ruby/rails. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this or if I'm missing something.

  • Problem with missing JSON functions on PHP 5.2.6 / Plesk 8.4

    I have a vserver running openSuse 10.3, Apache 2 and Plesk 8.4. I can update/upgrade neither, as it is apparently not recommended to upgrade openSuse 10.3 (and an update to the EOL 10.4 does not seem to make much sense) and Plesk fails to update no matter what version I try (even fails to upgrade to 8.4.1). Still I can live with that somehow, primarily because I don’t have the time to do a fresh remote install on the vserver. What really is a problem is, that though the installed PHP is 5.2.6 it has no zip library and no json functions. The first is probably because PHP was not compiled with --enable-zip. The second is a big mystery though. As I understand it, it always comes with PHP unless its compiled with the --disable-json configure option. This is however not the case. And the json extension module is just not there.   • How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files)

    Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this.   • Hibernation is still missing from menu in 13.10 after enabling via polkit. How to enable?

    I know that since 12.04, we need to add a policykit rule to enable hibernation (see question How to enable hibernation? and the Official Documentation). I can successfully bring my laptop into hibernation mode with sudo pm-hibernate or sudo s2disk, so the rule is in place and works, but the hibernation entry is still missing in the menu. I can tell from looking through the source of the indicator-session package (but not understanding the whole code) that there is still a hibernation menu entry in the code and it should be displayed when the system is capable of hibernating. Please calm down if you're enraged by this. This is very unlikely to be a conspiracy, but rather a bug/regression on a deeper level, which can happen when you move code around or replace it. Question: What needs to be done in 13.10 to properly tell indicator-session that the system can hibernate? Possible duplicate: Hibernation still not available - No activity, because saucy was in development at that time, so out of scope for AskUbuntu.   • Do you use ReSharper full time, or only enable it when needed?

    Based on a multitude of questions related to temporarily disabling ReSharper, and also on certain research data, I can see that a considerable share of ReSharper users have it disabled most of the time. They tend to enable it for a limited period of time (say, several hours), do whatever they need to do using its functionality, and disable it back until the next time they feel they need to use it. If you're using ReSharper (or other similar VS extensions, to that matter) in such occasional manner, can you clarify why you're doing this? Is your behavior based on performance, or other considerations? What kinds of tasks do you enable ReSharper for in this scenario?

  • How to enable home directory encryption for a particular user?

    I prefer to have a dedicated "administrator" user for technical purposes and that was one I've set up during installation. I've also refused to encrypt the home folder of the user. Now, as I've added a user account for my actual work usage I want my (but not the "administrator") home folder to be encrypted. How to turn this on? If it is not possible then how to enable encryption for all users home directories on a system already installed? I've found questions and answers about how to disable it but am not sure how to enable it.
