• Enabling Session Directory under Terminal Server Configuration Tool and Server Settings

  Yello, I'm trying to add up a Terminal Server Session Directory client to an already fully functional Session Directory cluster which today runs two clients as well as the server. I've been reading up on both Google, Microsoft KB's as well as old documentation from an earlier employee but to no avail. The step I'm stuck at is when I open up Terminal Server Configuration Tool (tscc.msc), chooses ServerSettings. I know there should be an option saying "Session Directory" on the right hand side along with Active Desktop, Licensing and whatnot, but it's not there. I've logged on to both the other already functional clients and checked the same list and there the Session Directory option sure is both visible as well as working good with the specified information. This picture is the same view that I'm looking at at the moment, but mine is missing the bottom option that says "Session Directory" http://www.inetnj.com/doc/images/TerminalServerConfiguration.jpg Any help would be greatly appriciated.   I have a small confusion about the differences between the 2 types of set ups: When deploying using Add Roles and Features the Wizard requests to choose from one of two Deployment Scenarios: Virtual machine-based desktop deployment : Virtual machine-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to virtual desktop collections that include published RemoteApp programs and virtual desktops. Session-based desktop deployment : Session-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to session collections that include published RemoteApp programs and session-based desktops. Although this seems intuitive now, if I continue with "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment" I later have another two options when creating a collection: Pooled virtual desktop collection Personal virtual desktop collection This is where my confusion lies. What is the differences between a Session-based deployment and Virtual machine-based deployment with Personal virtual desktop collections? I'm mostly finding information pertaining to Windows Server 2008 but I know there are some core improvements in VDI 2012 so would someone please comment on that. Thank you

• SSH asking for password for one user and not another

  I have two users on the same machine and am attempting to set up SSH for user#2. SSH was still asking for a password for the second user so I copied the .rsa file from user#1 to user#2. although they have identical files and permissions and although no password is asked of user#1, SSH still asks for a password from user#2. What could cause two users on the same machine with identical .rsa files to have different responses from SSH?

• How to add LDAP user to existing local group in RHEL?

  I'm attempting to add some of our LDAP users to a locally defined group on our RHEL server, however I get an error stating that the LDAP user is not found in /etc/passwd. What would be the best way to allow LDAP users to be added to local groups? My feeling is that this must be done manually. I could edit: /etc/group and add the LDAP group to the list. Would that be ideal? • windows 2003 remote desktop configuration - "Active session limit" greyed out

  I have a terminal server which works fine except for one thing: users are logged off after 2 hours, regardless of activity. I have Override user settings checked in the appropriate control window, and "End a disconnected session: Never" is set. But, I found the "Active session limit" is greyed out so I can't change it, and is set to 2 hours. • Removing open session from dvd-rw

  As you can see from the above image, nero is showing some "session is open" in my DVD rewritable disc. The problem is whenever I erase the session it is not getting erased and I am unable to write the remaining part of the disc. So, the worst part is will I be able to use this dvd-rw again or now it's just a waste scrap? Nero version is 11 OS win7 AV is KIS2012 Dvd-rw is from Sony company Dvd drive from samsung sh-s203b with latest firmware

• Where are Windows XP toolbars defined?

  Hello all, I'm trying to find where the Windows XP taskbars are defined. I don't think it is in the registry as I've: created a new folder called "_ZYX_Searchable" and added a new toolbar. searched the registry for this string and found no results. I've also searched the entire "c:" drive in case it has created a ".lnk" file somewhere but not found anything. Can any one point me in the right direction? G

• One vs. many domain user accounts in a server farm

  We are in a migration process of a group of related computers (Intranet servers, SQL, application servers of one application) to a new domain. In the past we used one domain user account for every computer (web1, web2, appserver1, appserver2, sql1, sqlbackup ...) to access central Windows resources like network shares. Every computer also has a local user account with the same name. I am not sure if this is necessary, or if it would be easier to configure and maintain to use one domain user account. Are there key advantages / disadvantages of having one single user account vs. dedicated accounts per computer for this group of background servers? If I am not wrong, one advantage besides easier administration of the user account could be that moving installed applications and services around between the computers does not require a check of the access rights anymore. (Except where IP addresses or ports are used)

• Google chrome crashes when you paste from a remote session

  I often have a remote desktop session or a java remoting tool up and whenever i copy from within a remote session and paste into chrome browser, the browser freezes and i have to kill it for anything to work again. has anyone seen this or have a resolution? i have to remember to copy and paste into notepad first and then copy from notepad and then into chrome which is a pain. I am using google chrome 5.0

At the same time, switching sessions via ^b sstarted to display all of the windows under each session, and not just the sessions thesmelves: Session Switcher Now Is there any way I can revert to the previous behaviour of only displaying sessions and not the windows belonging to them as well?

• Amit Jasuja's Session at Gartner IAM with Ranjan Jain of Cisco

  If you did not get a chance to attend Amit Jasuja's session at Gartner IAM this week in Las Vegas, here is a summary of the session and a copy of the slides. The agenda featured an introduction by Ray Wagner, Managing VP at Gartner, followed by Amit discussing the trends in Identity and Access Management shaping Oracle's strategy. Today we are seeing the largest re-architecture in a decade. Every business from manufacturing to retail is transforming the way they do business. Manufacturing companies are becoming manufacturing services companies. Retail organizations are embracing social retail. Healthcare is being delivered on-line around the clock. Identity Management is at the center of the transformation. Whether you are Toyota embracing a social network for cars or launching the next Iphone, the Identity of the user provides context to enable the interaction and secure the experience. All of these require greater attention to the context of the user and externalizing applications for customers and employees.  Ranjan discussed how Cisco is transforming  by integrating 1800 applications to a single access management framework and consolidating 3M users across 4 data centers to support internal and external processes. David Lee demonstrated how to use Oracle Access Manager 11g R2 on a mobile application to sign-on across multiple applications while connecting mobile applications to a single access control policy.

• BUILD 2013 Session&ndash;What&rsquo;s New In XAML

There were a number of improvements that struck me.  The first was the fact that we no longer need to put stack panels in the AppBar in order to add buttons.  This has been changed to a CommandBar which at the very least makes the markup read more cleanly.  Now if they would just bring this same improvement to Windows Phone we would be set. There was a lot of cheering at the beginning of his talk when he showed that there are now date time pickers.  I understand that it makes life easier, but I just couldn’t get that excited. The couple of features that did grab my attention being able to select a group of tags and then add an encapsulating tag such as a StackPanel around them and the fact that they have optimized XAML so that now runs on average 25% faster. • BUILD 2013 Session&ndash;Testing Your C# Base Windows Store Apps

  Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/tmurphy/archive/2013/06/27/build-2013-sessionndashtesting-your-c-base-windows-store-apps.aspx Testing an application is not what most people consider fun and the number of situation that need to be tested seems to grow exponentially when building mobile apps.  That is why I found the topic of this session interesting.  When I found out that the speaker, Francis Cheung, was from the Patterns and Practices group I knew I was in the right place.  I have admired that team since I first met Ron Jacobs around 2001.  So what did Francis have to offer? He started off in a rather confusing who’s on first fashion.  It seems that one of his tester was originally supposed to give the talk, but then it was decided that it would be better to have someone who does development present a testing topic.  This didn’t hinder the content of the talk in the least.  He broke the process down in a logical manner that would be straight forward to understand if not implement. Francis hit the main areas we usually think of such as tombstoning, network connectivity and asynchronous code, but he approached them with tools they we may not have thought of until now.  He relied heavily on Fiddler to intercept and change the behavior of network requests. Then there are the areas you might not normal think to check.  This includes localization, accessibility and updating client code to a new version.  These are important aspects of your app that can severely impact how customers feel about your app.  Take the time to view this session and get a new appreciation for testing and where it fits in your development lifecycle. del.icio.us Tags: BUILD 2013,Testing,C#,Windows Store Apps,Fiddler

• Can't login to Guest Session or Standard Account?

  Thanks in advance for any help. Ubuntu 12.04 Up until recently my mother has been using the Guest Session when she logs on; now, the Guest Session will not login. When I try to login to it, it bounces me back to the login screen. I then tried to login on a Standard account (Alberta) which I made prior to not being able to login to Guest, and it turns out I cannot login - it gives the "Invalid Password" error. So then I tried to change her password from my own account (Rory) which is the master account. Under the Login Options where the Password option is, it says "Account disabled" and it will not let me change this; I try to apply a password, get no error, but it just still says "Account disabled". Then I tried to delete the Alberta account altogether, but got this error: I also tried sudo userdel -r Alberta but got this error: "userdel: cannot lock /etc/shadow; try again later." I don't know what to do now. Any help appreciated.

• Failed to load session gnome-fallback, after messing with metacity

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome-session-fallback (Gnome Classic in the login menu). I wanted to remove window borders from metacity and stumbled across this post which basically changes window->mwm_decorated from TRUE to FALSE, which should remove the window borders in metacity. I know that it is also possible to change your GTK theme to one without window borders, but I wanted to try this solution. So I downloaded the source from my current metacity version (2.34.1) and changed that row. After compiling (./configure && make) I ran checkinstall which generates a .deb file from the source (had to change the version a bit to match the current one exactly). But after installing and loging out and back in, I couldn't load Gnome Classic. I get the error Failed to load session gnome-fallback. I could reinstall the old metacity which was still saved in /var/cache/apt/archives/, so everything is back where it was before. But I would like to mess around with metacity. Have I installed it correctly or did I forgot something? Are there any log files that I should check for solving this error? Thanks in advance!

• Oracle OpenWorld Session: “Business Driven Development with BPM: Lessons from the Real World”

  One of key values that BPM promises is “Business Empowerment”. People closest to the processes, who participate in the process every day, are the ones who know most about the process. These are the people who run day-to-day operations, people who triage customer issues, people who envision improvements and innovations. It is, therefore, imperative that when a company decides to use BPM technology to automate their business processes, business people take the driver’s seat. BPM is not an IT only project. Oracle BPM suite has been designed keeping this core tenet of BPM, Business Empowerment, in mind. The result is business user centered design of Process Composer. Process Composer is designed to let business users document their processes, analyze them using simulation, create web forms, specify business rules and even run them in testing mode using process player, to see if the designed process meets their needs. This does not mean that IT has no role in this process. In fact, Oracle BPM Suite has made it very easy for Business and IT to collaborate. The same process can be shared among business, and IT stakeholders and each can collaborate to create model-driven, process based executable applications. A process may need to integrate with multiple systems via various mechanisms, and IT leads system and data integration effort. IT helps fine tune the performance of process applications and ensures that the deployment of process application meets scalability and failover standards. In this session, we saw Harish Gaur and Satya Narayanan from Oracle demonstrate roles Business and IT play in BPM projects and how Oracle BPM Suite enables business and IT collaboration to design and automate process based applications. They also discussed real life customer stories. • Maintaining session information between 2 asp.net calls programmatically?

  Hi, I'm not sure if I'll be clear enough in my explaination to make you guys understand, but I'll try. Here's my problem: We have an external site which the users in our company connect to by giving their corresponding username and password. The external site is an ASP.NET website. We want to integrate this website into our intranet portal so that the users don't have to enter their UN/Pwd to login to the website. Since the target website has no provision for SSO, we are simulating the POST request to login. So far so good. We are now required to perform an action after the initial login is done, on an another page. We can simulate the corresponding POST request as well. But the problem is since we are not maintaining any session information in our initial POST request, it always redirects to the login screen! Is there any way to maintain ASP.NET session information between multiple calls done programmatically? Can we create an ASP.NET session id cookie programmatically and then pass it along with our initial request? Or this is not possible at all? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks for your help. • Doctesting functions that receive and display user input - Python (tearing my hair out)

  Howdy! I am currently writing a small application with Python (3.1), and like a good little boy, I am doctesting as I go. However, I've come across a method that I can't seem to doctest. It contains an input(), an because of that, I'm not entirely sure what to place in the "expecting" portion of the doctest. Example code to illustrate my problem follows: """ >>> getFiveNums() Howdy. Please enter five numbers, hit <enter> after each one Please type in a number: Please type in a number: Please type in a number: Please type in a number: Please type in a number: """ import doctest numbers = list() # stores 5 user-entered numbers (strings, for now) in a list def getFiveNums(): print("Howdy. Please enter five numbers, hit <enter> after each one") for i in range(5): newNum = input("Please type in a number:") numbers.append(newNum) print("Here are your numbers: ", numbers) if __name__ == "__main__": doctest.testmod(verbose=True) When running the doctests, the program stops executing immediately after printing the "Expecting" section, waits for me to enter five numbers one after another (without prompts), and then continues. As shown below: I don't know what, if anything, I can place in the Expecting section of my doctest to be able to test a method that receives and then displays user input. So my question (finally) is, is this function doctestable?

• Horizontally align rows in multiple tables using web user control

  I need to align rows in different tables that are layed out horizontally. I'd prefer to put the html code in a single web user control so I can create as many instances of that control as I want and lay them out horizontally. The problem is, the text in the rows needs to wrap. So some rows may expand vertically and some may not (see the example below). When that happens, the rows in the other tables aren't aligned horizontally. I know I can accomplish all this by using a single table, but that would mean I'd have to duplicate the name, address and phone html code instead of dynamically creating new instances of my user control (in reality there are many more fields than this, but I'm keeping it simple). Is there any way to do this whether with div's, tables or something else? Here's the problem: Mary Jane's address field expands 2 lines, causing her phone field to not align properly with John's and Bob's. Name: John Doe Name: Mary Jane Name: Bob Smith Address: 123 broadway Address: Some really long address Address: Short address Phone: 123-456 that takes up multiple lines Phone: 111-2222 Phone: 456-789 I'm not restricted in any way how to do this (other than using asp.net), but I'd prefer to use a single web control that I instantiate X times at design time (in this example, it's 3 times). I'm using VS2008, and .Net 3.5
