• PHP and C# communication on IIS7 (to generate dynamic PDF)

- by David Murdoch
Background: I couldn't find any decent free HTML to PDF conversion utilities in C#. There are 100s of them for PHP with extensive documentation, support, and CSS support. So I am using html2ps and html2pdf (php). I have PHP 5.2 installed on IIS7 and its working beautifully to create PDFs. I have the following in getPDF.aspx <DM:header runat="server" ID="header" /> <asp:Placeholder id="content" runat="server" /> <DM:footer runat="server" ID="footer" /> and in getPDF.aspx.cs: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ // AddContentControl simples adds a controls to the content Placeholder. AddContentControl("controls/page1.ascx"); AddContentControl("controls/page2.ascx"); AddContentControl("controls/page3.ascx"); } and in generatePDF.php: <?php /* ... includes and stuff here ... */ $data = "THE HTML GOES HERE!"; // creates the PDF from the $data and Outputs the created file. convert_to_pdf($data); ?> -- getPDF.aspx works perfectly...except the output is HTML. So how can I get getPDF.aspx to output its HTML as PDF generated by generatePDF.php?

• ASP.NET Content Web Form - content from placeholder disappears

- by Naeem Sarfraz
I'm attempting to set a class on the body tag in my asp.net site which uses a master page and content web forms. I simply want to be able to do this by adding a bodycssclass property (see below) to the content web form page directive. It works through the solution below but when i attempt to view Default.aspx the Content1 control loses its content. Any ideas why? Here is how I'm doing it. I have a master page with the following content: <%@ Master Language="C#" ... %>

...

<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="cphMain" runat="server" />

it's code behind looks like: public partial class Site : MasterPageBase { public override string BodyCssClass { get { return ctlBody.Attributes["class"]; } set { ctlBody.Attributes["class"] = value; } } } it inherits from: public abstract class MasterPageBase : MasterPage { public abstract string BodyCssClass { get; set; } } my default.aspx is defined as: <%@ Page Title="..." [master page definition etc..] bodycssclass="home" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphMain" runat="server"> Some content </asp:Content> the code behind for this file looks like: public partial class Default : PageBase { ... } and it inherits from : public class PageBase : Page { public string BodyCssClass { get { MasterPageBase mpbCurrent = this.Master as MasterPageBase; return mpbCurrent.BodyCssClass; } set { MasterPageBase mpbCurrent = this.Master as MasterPageBase; mpbCurrent.BodyCssClass = value; } } }

• ASP XML as Datasource error

- by nekko
Hello I am trying to use an XML as a datasource in ASP and then display it as a datagrid. The XML has the following format: <people type="array"> <person>
<first_name></first_name> <last_name></last_name>

<company></company> <tags> </tags> <locations> <location primary="false" label="work">
<website></website> <phone></phone> <cell></cell> <fax></fax> <street_1/> <street_2/> <city/> <state/> <postal_code/> <country/> </location> </locations> <notes></notes> <created_at></created_at> <updated_at></updated_at> </person> </people> When I try to run the simple page I receive the following error Server Error in '/' Application. The data source for GridView with id 'GridView1' did not have any properties or attributes from which to generate columns. Ensure that your data source has content. Please help. Thanks in advance.

• N-Tier Architecture - Structure with multiple projects in VB.NET

- by focus.nz
I would like some advice on the best approach to use in the following situation... I will have a Windows Application and a Web Application (presentation layers), these will both access a common business layer. The business layer will look at a configuration file to find the name of the dll (data layer) which it will create a reference to at runtime (is this the best approach?). The reason for creating the reference at runtime to the data access layer is because the application will interface with a different 3rd party accounting system depending on what the client is using. So I would have a separate data access layer to support each accounting system. These could be separate setup projects, each client would use one or the other, they wouldn't need to switch between the two. Projects: MyCompany.Common.dll - Contains interfaces, all other projects have a reference to this one. MyCompany.Windows.dll - Windows Forms Project, references MyCompany.Business.dll MyCompany.Web.dll - Website project, references MyCompany.Business.dll MyCompany.Busniess.dll - Business Layer, references MyCompany.Data.* (at runtime) MyCompany.Data.AccountingSys1.dll - Data layer for accounting system 1 MyCompany.Data.AccountingSys2.dll - Data layer for accounting system 2 The project MyCompany.Common.dll would contain all the interfaces, each other project would have a reference to this one. Public Interface ICompany ReadOnly Property Id() as Integer Property Name() as String Sub Save() End Interface Public Interface ICompanyFactory Function CreateCompany() as ICompany End Interface The project MyCompany.Data.AccountingSys1.dll and MyCompany.Data.AccountingSys2.dll would contain the classes like the following: Public Class Company Implements ICompany Protected _id As Integer Protected _name As String Public ReadOnly Property Id As Integer Implements MyCompany.Common.ICompany.Id Get Return _id End Get End Property Public Property Name As String Implements MyCompany.Common.ICompany.Name Get Return _name End Get Set(ByVal value as String) _name = value End Set End Property Public Sub Save() Implements MyCompany.Common.ICompany.Save Throw New NotImplementedException() End Sub End Class Public Class CompanyFactory Implements ICompanyFactory Public Function CreateCompany() As ICompany Implements MyCompany.Common.ICompanyFactory.CreateCompany Return New Company() End Function End Class The project MyCompany.Business.dll would provide the business rules and retrieve data form the data layer: Public Class Companies Public Shared Function CreateCompany() As ICompany Dim factory as New MyCompany.Data.CompanyFactory Return factory.CreateCompany() End Function End Class Any opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• ASP.Net GridView UpdatePanel Paging Gives Error On Second Click

- by joe
I'm trying to implement a GridView with paging inside a UpdatePanel. Everything works great when I do my first click. The paging kicks in and the next set of data is loaded quickly. However, when I then try to click a link for another page of data, I get the following error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 12030 aspx code <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"> <contenttemplate> <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" CellPadding="2" AllowPaging="true" AllowSorting="true" PageSize="20" OnPageIndexChanging="GridView1_PageIndexChanging" OnSorting="GridView1_PageSorting" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="ActivityLogID" HeaderText="Activity Log ID" SortExpression="ActivityLogID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="ActivityDate" HeaderText="Activity Date" SortExpression="ActivityDate" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="ntUserID" HeaderText="NTUserID" SortExpression="ntUserID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="ActivityStatus" HeaderText="Activity Status" SortExpression="ActivityStatus" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> </contenttemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> code behind private void bindGridView(string sortExp, string sortDir) { SqlCommand mySqlCommand = new SqlCommand(sSQL, mySQLconnection); SqlDataAdapter mySqlAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(mySqlCommand); mySqlAdapter.Fill(dtDataTable); DataView myDataView = new DataView(); myDataView = dt.DefaultView; if (sortExp != string.Empty) { myDataView.Sort = string.Format("{0} {1}", sortExp, sortDir); } GridView1.DataSource = myDataView; GridView1.DataBind(); if (mySQLconnection.State == ConnectionState.Open) { mySQLconnection.Close(); } } protected void GridView1_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e) { GridView1.PageIndex = e.NewPageIndex; bindGridView(); } protected void GridView1_PageSorting(object sender, GridViewSortEventArgs e) { bindGridView(e.SortExpression, sortOrder); } any clues on what is causing the error on the second click?

• OSMDroid simple example required

- by Bex
Hi! I am trying to create an app that uses offline maps and custom tiles. For this I have decided to use OSMDroid and have included the jar within my project. I will create my custom tiles using MOBAC. I have been directed to these examples: http://code.google.com/p/osmdroid/source/browse/#svn%2Ftrunk%2FOpenStreetMapViewer%2Fsrc%2Forg%2Fosmdroid%2Fsamples but I am struggling to follow them as I am new to both java and android. I have created a class file called test (which I have created following an example!): public class test extends Activity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ protected static final String PROVIDER_NAME = LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); MapView map = (MapView) findViewById(R.id.map); map.setTileSource(TileSourceFactory.MAPQUESTOSM); map.setBuiltInZoomControls(true); map.setMultiTouchControls(true); map.getController().setZoom(16); map.getController().setCenter(new GeoPoint(30266000, -97739000)); } } with a layout file: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <org.osmdroid.views.MapView android:id="@+id/map" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" tilesource="MapquestOSM" android:layout_weight="1" /> </LinearLayout> When I run this I see no map, just an empty grid. I think this is due to my tilesource but I'm not sure what I need to change it to. Can anyone help? Bex

• Exchange Web Services and Property Sets

- by Sam
I need to retrieve calendar information by invoking the Exchange Web Service in BPOS. I'm using a CalendarView with a PropertySet to retrieve as little data as possible. However, property sets seems to be limited. I need the EmailAddress of the one who made the calendar appointment so I thought I could use the AppointmentSchema.Organizer in the PropertySet. When fetching a whole Appointment I can get the e-mail through appt.Organizer.EmailAddress. But with the code below the Organizer.EmailAddress is always null. I've enabled the trace and checked it and only the Organizer.Name property is sent, nothing else. Does anyone have a solution on how to get the EmailAddress when using a PropertySet? CalendarView view = new CalendarView(dtFrom, dtTo); view.PropertySet = new PropertySet(ItemSchema.Subject); view.PropertySet.Add(ItemSchema.Id); view.PropertySet.Add(AppointmentSchema.Start); view.PropertySet.Add(AppointmentSchema.End); view.PropertySet.Add(AppointmentSchema.Organizer); // This should contain EmailAddress but it doesn't Mailbox mailbox = new Mailbox("[email protected]"); FolderId id = new FolderId(WellKnownFolderName.Calendar, mailbox); CalendarFolder folder = CalendarFolder.Bind(service, id); FindItemsResults findResults = folder.FindAppointments(view);

• HTTP Basic Authentication with HTTPService Objects in Adobe Flex/AIR

- by Bob Somers
I'm trying to request a HTTP resource that requires basic authorization headers from within an Adobe AIR application. I've tried manually adding the headers to the request, as well as using the setRemoteCredentials() method to set them, to no avail. Here's the code: <mx:Script>  import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent; private function authAndSend(service:HTTPService):void { service.setRemoteCredentials('someusername', 'somepassword'); service.send(); } private function resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void { apiResult.text = event.result.toString(); } private function resultFailed(event:FaultEvent):void { apiResult.text = event.fault.toString(); }  </mx:Script> <mx:HTTPService id="apiService" url="https://mywebservice.com/someFileThatRequiresBasicAuth.xml" resultFormat="text" result="resultHandler(event)" fault="resultFailed(event)" /> <mx:Button id="apiButton" label="Test API Command" click="authAndSend(apiService)" /> <mx:TextArea id="apiResult" /> However, a standard basic auth dialog box still pops up prompting the user for their username and password. I have a feeling I'm not doing this the right way, but all the info I could find (Flex docs, blogs, Google, etc.) either hasn't worked or was too vague to help. Any black magic, oh Flex gurus? Thanks. EDIT: Changing setRemoteCredentials() to setCredentials() yields the following ActionScript error: [MessagingError message='Authentication not supported on DirectHTTPChannel (no proxy).'] EDIT: Problem solved, after some attention from Adobe. See the posts below for a full explanation. This code will work for HTTP Authentication headers of arbitrary length. import mx.utils.Base64Encoder; private function authAndSend(service:HTTPService):void { var encoder:Base64Encoder = new Base64Encoder(); encoder.insertNewLines = false; // see below for why you need to do this encoder.encode("someusername:somepassword"); service.headers = {Authorization:"Basic " + encoder.toString()}; service.send(); }

• Regex: markdown-style link matching

- by The.Anti.9
I want to parse markdown style links, but I'm having some trouble matching the reference style ones. Like this one: [id]: http://example.com/ "Optional Title Here" My regex gets the id and the url, but not the title. Heres what I have: /\[([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\]: (\S+)\s?("".*?"")?/ I go through and add the references to a hashtable. the id as the key and the value is an instance of a class I made called LinkReference that just contains the url and the title. In case the problem is not my regex, and my code adding the matches to the hash table, Heres my code for that too: Regex rx = new Regex(@"\[([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\]: (\S+)\s?("".*?"")?"); MatchCollection matches = rx.Matches(InputText); foreach (Match match in matches) { GroupCollection groups = match.Groups; string title = null; try { title = groups[3].Value; } catch (Exception) { // keep title null } LinkReferences.Add(groups[1].Value, new LinkReference(groups[2].Value, title)); }

• Add autoFill capabilities to jQuery-UI 1.8.1

- by rockinthesixstring
here's what I currently have, unfortunately I cannot seem to figure out how to get autoFill to work with jQuery-UI... It used to work with the straight up Autocomplete.js I've used the answer here to get the mustMatch working, but unfortunately if I "tab" away from the input box, I get the "Nothing selected" response instead of an Value and ID. Does anyone know how to extract the ID out of the autocomplete when you don't actually select the field?

• certificate issues running app in windows 7 ?

- by Jurjen
Hi, I'm having some problems with my App. I'm using 'org.mentalis.security' assembly to create a certificate object from a 'pfx' file, this is the line of code where the exception occurs : Certificate cert = Certificate.CreateFromPfxFile(publicKey, certificatePassword); this has always worked and still does in production, but for some reason it throws an exception when run in windows 7 (tried it on 2 machines). CertificateException : Unable to import the PFX file! [error code = -2146893792] I can't find much on this message via google, but when checking the EventViewer I get an 'Audit Failure' every time this exception occurs: Event ID = 5061 Source = Microsoft Windows Security Task Category = system Integrity Keywords = Audit Failure Cryptographic operation. Subject: Security ID: NT AUTHORITY\IUSR Account Name: IUSR Account Domain: NT AUTHORITY Logon ID: 0x3e3 Cryptographic Parameters: Provider Name: Microsoft Software Key Storage Provider Algorithm Name: Not Available. Key Name: VriendelijkeNaam Key Type: User key. Cryptographic Operation: Operation: Open Key. Return Code: 0x2 ` I'm not sure why this isn't working on win 7, I've never had problems when I was running on Vista with this. I am running VS2008 as administrator but I guess that maybe the ASP.NET user doesn't have sufficient rights or something. It's pretty strangs that the 'Algorithm name' is 'Not Available' can anyone help me with this... TIA, Jurjen de Groot

• Inherited fluent nhibenate mapping issue

- by Aim Kai
I have an interesting issue today!! Basically I have two classes. public class A : B { public virtual new ISet<DifferentItem> Items {get;set;} } public class B { public virtual int Id {get;set;} public virtual ISet
Items {get;set;} } The subclass A hides the base class B property, Items and replaces it with a new property with the same name and a different type. The mappings for these classes are public class AMapping : SubclassMap { public AMapping() { HasMany(x=>x.Items) .LazyLoad() .AsSet(); } } public class BMapping : ClassMap { public BMapping() { Id(x=>x.Id); HasMany(x=>x.Items) .LazyLoad() .AsSet(); } } However when I run my unit test to check the mapping I get the following exception: Tests the A mapping: NHibernate.PropertyAccessException : Invalid Cast (check your mapping for property type mismatches); setter of A ---- System.InvalidCastException : Unable to cast object of type 'NHibernate.Collection.Generic.PersistentGenericSet1[Item]' to type 'Iesi.Collections.Generic.ISet1[DifferentItem]'. Anyone have any ideas? Clearly it is something to do with the type of the collection on the sub-class. But I skimmed through the available options on the mapping class and nothing stood out as being the solution here.

• NSBundle loading a NSViewController

- by Staros
Hey all, I'm looking into a project that would upload custom NSBundles that include a NSViewController. In my main program I've got this code to deal with the bundle after it's been loaded... id principalClass = [loadedBundle principalClass]; id instance = [[principalClass alloc] init]; [localLabel setStringValue:[instance name]]; NSView *incomingView = [[instance viewController] view]; [localView addSubview:incomingView]; [localView display]; And the principal classes init method in the bundle looks like this... -(id) init { if(self = [super init]){ name = @"My Plugin"; viewController = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"View" bundle:nil]; } return self; } View.nib is a nib located in the bundles project. But whenever I load the bundle I get this error... 2010-05-27 09:11:18.423 PluginLoader[45032:a0f] unable to find nib named: View in bundle path: (null) 2010-05-27 09:11:18.424 PluginLoader[45032:a0f] -[NSViewController loadView] could not load the "View" nib. I know I've got everything wired up because the line [label setStringValue:[instance name]]; sets the label text correctly. Plus, if I take all of the clases in the bundle and load them into my main applications project everything works as expect. Any thoughts on how I can correctly reference "View" in my bundle? Thanks!

• click() not behaving like user click

- by rpiontek
I have searched for a solution to this for the last several hours but to no avail. When I click on a button that has a return false in OnClientClick, no postback occurs to the server. When I use jquery to trigger the click function of the button, OnClientClick fires first, but regardless of the return value, a postback occurs. Here's a simple sample...
<asp:Button ID="Button2" OnClientClick="$('#Button1').click();" runat="server" Text="Trigger" />
<asp:Button ID="Button1" OnClick="Button1_Click" OnClientClick="return false;" runat="server" Text="Button" />
So, in this example, when Button1 is clicked normally, no postback occurs. When Button2 is clicked, a postback always occurs. Is this a bug or intended behavior?

• Flex: Double click event propagation on datagrid dependent on component order?

- by MyMacAndMe
I'd like to have a double click event on a datagrid in Flex3. The following example only works if the Accordion (id = "mustBeSecond") container comes after the DataGrid. Why is the order of the components important and what can I do to prevent this behavior? (The example does not work. If you change the order of "mustBeSecond" and "gridReportConversions" the example works fine) <mx:Script>  import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; [Bindable] private var dp:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([ {qty:1,referer:'http://google.com'}, {qty:25,referer:'http://cnn.com'}, {qty:4,referer:'http:stackoverflow.com'}]); private function refererRowDoubleClicked(e:Event):void { Alert.show("double click"); }  </mx:Script> <mx:HBox width="100%" height="100%"> <mx:Accordion width="200" height="200" id="mustBeSecond"> <mx:Canvas label="Navigation Box" width="100%" height="100%"> <mx:VBox> <mx:LinkButton label="First Link" /> <mx:LinkButton label="Second Link" /> </mx:VBox> </mx:Canvas> </mx:Accordion> <mx:DataGrid id="gridReportConversions" height="100%" width="100%" dataProvider="{this.dp}" mouseEnabled="true" doubleClickEnabled="true" itemDoubleClick="refererRowDoubleClicked(event)"> <mx:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn width="75" dataField="qty" headerText="Qty" /> <mx:DataGridColumn dataField="referer" headerText="URL" /> </mx:columns> </mx:DataGrid> </mx:HBox>

Hey, Consider the following XML file : <cookbook> <recipe xml:id="MushroomSoup">
Quick and Easy Mushroom Soup
<ingredient name="Fresh mushrooms" quantity="7" unit="pieces"/> <ingredient name="Garlic" quantity="1" unit="cloves"/> </recipe> <recipe xml:id="AnotherRecipe">
XXXXXXX
<ingredient name="Tomatoes" quantity="8" unit="pieces"/> <ingredient name="PineApples" quantity="2" unit="cloves"/> </recipe> </cookbook> Let's say I want to parse this file and gather each recipe as XML, each one as a separated QString. For example, I would like to have a QString that contains : <recipe xml:id="MushroomSoup">
Quick and Easy Mushroom Soup
<ingredient name="Fresh mushrooms" quantity="7" unit="pieces"/> <ingredient name="Garlic" quantity="1" unit="cloves"/> </recipe> How could I do this ? Do you guys know a quick and clean method to perform this ? Thanks in advance for your help !

• Pros and cons of making database IDs consistent and "readable"

- by gmale
Question Is it a good rule of thumb for database IDs to be "meaningless?" Conversely, are there significant benefits from having IDs structured in a way where they can be recognized at a glance? What are the pros and cons? Background I just had a debate with my coworkers about the consistency of the IDs in our database. We have a data-driven application that leverages spring so that we rarely ever have to change code. That means, if there's a problem, a data change is usually the solution. My argument was that by making IDs consistent and readable, we save ourselves significant time and headaches, long term. Once the IDs are set, they don't have to change often and if done right, future changes won't be difficult. My coworkers position was that IDs should never matter. Encoding information into the ID violates DB design policies and keeping them orderly requires extra work that, "we don't have time for." I can't find anything online to support either position. So I'm turning to all the gurus here at SA! Example Imagine this simplified list of database records representing food in a grocery store, the first set represents data that has meaning encoded in the IDs, while the second does not: ID's with meaning: Type 1 Fruit 2 Veggie Product 101 Apple 102 Banana 103 Orange 201 Lettuce 202 Onion 203 Carrot Location 41 Aisle four top shelf 42 Aisle four bottom shelf 51 Aisle five top shelf 52 Aisle five bottom shelf ProductLocation 10141 Apple on aisle four top shelf 10241 Banana on aisle four top shelf //just by reading the ids, it's easy to recongnize that these are both Fruit on Aisle 4 ID's without meaning: Type 1 Fruit 2 Veggie Product 1 Apple 2 Banana 3 Orange 4 Lettuce 5 Onion 6 Carrot Location 1 Aisle four top shelf 2 Aisle four bottom shelf 3 Aisle five top shelf 4 Aisle five bottom shelf ProductLocation 1 Apple on aisle four top shelf 2 Banana on aisle four top shelf //given the IDs, it's harder to see that these are both fruit on aisle 4 Summary What are the pros and cons of keeping IDs readable and consistent? Which approach do you generally prefer and why? Is there an accepted industry best-practice?

• Objective-C Protocols within Protocols

- by LucasTizma
I recently began trying my hand at using protocols in my Objective-C development as an (obvious) means of delegating tasks more appropriately among my classes. I completely understand the basic notion of protocols and how they work. However, I came across a roadblock when trying to create a custom protocol that in turn implements another protocol. I since discovered the solution, but I am curious why the following DOES NOT work: @protocol STPickerViewDelegate < UIPickerViewDelegate > - ( void )customCallback; @end @interface STPickerView : UIPickerView { id < STPickerViewDelegate > delegate; } @property ( nonatomic, assign ) id < STPickerViewDelegate > delegate; @end Then in a view controller, which conforms to STPickerViewDelegate: STPickerView * pickerView = [ [ STPickerView alloc ] init ]; pickerView.delegate = self; - ( void )customCallback { ... } - ( NSString * )pickerView:( UIPickerView * )pickerView titleForRow:( NSInteger )row forComponent:( NSInteger )component { ... } The problem was that pickerView:titleForRow:forComponent: was never being called. On the other hand, customCallback was being called just fine, which isn't too surprising. I don't understand why STPickerViewDelegate, which itself conforms to UIPickerViewDelegate, does not notify my view controller when events from UIPickerViewDelegate are supposed to occur. Per my understanding of Apple's documentation, if a protocol (A) itself conforms to another protocol (B), then a class (C) that conforms to the first protocol (A) must also conform to the second protocol (B), which is exactly the behavior I want and expected. What I ended up doing was removing the id< STPickerViewDelegate > delegate property from STViewPicker and instead doing something like the following in my STViewPicker implementation where I want to evoke customCallback: if ( [ self.delegate respondsToSelector:@selector( customCallback ) ] ) { [ self.delegate performSelector:@selector( customCallback ) ]; } This works just fine, but I really am puzzled as to why my original approach did not work.

• WPF Combobox Updates list but not the selected item

- by JoshReedSchramm
I have a combo box on a WPF form. On this form the user selects a record from the combo box which populates the rest of the fields on the form so the user can update that record. When they click save I am re-retrieving the combo box source which updates the combo box list. The problem is the selected item keeps the original label even though the data behind it is different. When you expand the combo box the selected item shows the right label. I am using a command binding mechanism. Here is some of the relevant code. private void SaveSalesRep() { BindFromView(); if (_salesRep.Id == 0) SalesRepRepository.AddAndSave(_salesRep); else SalesRepRepository.DataContext.SaveChanges(); int originalId = _salesRep.Id; InitSalesRepDropDown(); SalesRepSelItem = ((List<SalesRep>) SalesRepItems.SourceCollection).Find(x => x.Id == originalId); } private void InitSalesRepDropDown() { var salesRepRepository = IoC.GetRepository<ISalesRepRepository>(); IEnumerable<SalesRep> salesReps = salesRepRepository.GetAll(); _salesRepItems = new CollectionView(salesReps); NotifyPropertyChanged("SalesRepItems"); SalesRepSelItem = SalesRepItems.GetItemAt(0) as SalesRep; } The Selected Item property on the combo box is bound to SalesRepSelItem Property and the ItemsSource is bound to SalesRepItems which is backed by _salesRepItems. THe SalesRepSelItem property called NotifyPropertyChanges("SalesRepSelItem") which raises a PropertyChanged event. All told the binding of new items seems to work and the list updates, but the label on the selected item doesnt. Any ideas? Thanks all.

• Binding WPF ComboBox in XAML - Why is it Empty?

- by mdiehl13
I am trying to learn how to bind my simple database (.sdf) to a combobox. I created a dataset with my tables in it. I then dragged a table from the DataSource onto my control. There are no build warnings/errors, and when it runs, the ComboBox is empty. <UserControl x:Class="OurFamilyFinances.TabItems.TransactionTab" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="414" d:DesignWidth="578" xmlns:my="clr-namespace:OurFamilyFinances" Loaded="UserControl_Loaded_1"> <UserControl.Resources> <my:FinancesDataDataSet x:Key="financesDataDataSet" /> <CollectionViewSource x:Key="accountViewSource" Source="{Binding Path=Account, Source={StaticResource financesDataDataSet}}" /> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid> <ComboBox DisplayMemberPath="Name" Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource accountViewSource}}" Margin="3,141,0,0" Name="accountComboBox" SelectedValuePath="ID" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="120"> <ComboBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <VirtualizingStackPanel /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ComboBox.ItemsPanel> </ComboBox> </Grid> The paths that is shows are correct, the selectedPath is "ID" and the displaypath is "Name". If I do this in Linq to Sql, the combo box does populate: this.accountComboBox.ItemsSource = from o in db.Account select new { o.ID, o.Name }; But I would like to learn how to do this in XAML. I have dragged datagrids from the DataSource as well, but they are not populated either. Any idea?
