I am trying to build a web site using asp.net, so since i an not very good on the design
part.
I am wondering where is the best site to get a good template for my web site.
Preliminary: I am writting my own httpclient in Java. I am trying to parse out the contents of chunked encoding.
Here is my dilema: Since I am trying to parse out chunked http transfer encoding with a gzip payload there is a mix of ascii and binary. I can't just take the http resp content and convert it to a string and make use of StringUtils since the binary data can easily contain nil characters. So what I need to do is some basic things for parsing out each chunk and its chunk length (as per chunked transfer/HTTP/1.1 spec).
Are there any helpful ways of searching through byte arrays of binary/part ascii data for certain patterns (like a CR LF) (instead of just a single byte) ? Or must I write the for loops for this?
In classic Delphi database application we have a form, a set of data-aware visual controls connected to TDataSets via TDataSources. If one wants to design database application using MVC model, where to place TDataSet components? Should they stay on form and therefore be a part of View? Or should they be encapsulated inside some Model object? If the latter how they could be bound to visual components?
When is a good design decision to use the Ternary Operator over if then else clause? Are there any efficiency hit? Do they get compiled to the same code? Do you think one is more readable than the other in some cases?
Is there a way in Visual Studio 2008 Professional edition to create a graphical representation of an application? What I am looking for is a flowchart or other design graph that shows each program in the app and how they relate to other programs and files in the app. I can create one using Visio, but wanted to know if there is something built into Visual Studio that can do this.
We are in the process of integrating ASP.NET Business App with Sharepoint. I have some Design questions.
Requirement - From ASP.NET buz application we upload document to Sharepoint Doc Lib 2010 using Web Services. And perform a Search using Serach web service. I would like to know from group are there any disadvantages doing this? Performance etc .. What kind of seacurity consideration i need to be thinking of.
Assume you have a small project which on the surface looks like a good match for an ETL tool like Talend.
But assume further, that you have never used Talend and furthermore, you do not trust "visual programming" tools in general and would rather code everything the old fashioned way (text on a nice IDE!) with the help of an appropriate language & support libraries.
What are some language patterns & support libraries that could help you stay away from the ETL tool temptation/trap?
If I point to:
mywebsite.com/search
and there is a file called search.php or search.html or search.inc.php or search.whatthehell.php in website's directory, Apache will point to that file instead of 404'ing.
What is even more annoying is that if I point to:
mywebsite.com/search/string?also=whatever
Apache will still display any file with filename that begins with "search.".
Also, all RewriteRules with patterns containing filenames existing in directory are ignored/useless.
I'm using Apache 2 on Mac, unmodified httpd.conf. How do I prevent it from redirecting my urls so freely?
You always read in changelogs when your system or browser or any program updates that they fixed a bug that made possible that an attacker can execute any code in your computer with a forged website, or attacking your computer with carefully forged packets, etc...
Because you read it so often that means any program can have similar vulnerabilites... What causes this? how to design our programs to prevent similar issues?
Hi,
I would like to copy colors between elements in the interface builder or define them using RGB values.
I.e. copy the background color of a button to another button without duplicating the button.
Or: Enter an exact RGB code using the interface builder.
Currently I can do this only programmatically but the interface builder is meant to design the GUI, so there must be such possibilities.
Thank you all in advance for your answers.
I'm working with a very large code base and I find it useful to be selective about which directories are included for use with Exuberant Ctags.
The --exclude option works well to eliminate individual file and directory names (with globing wildcards), but I can't figure out how to get it to exclude path patterns containing more than one directory.
For example, I may want to exclude a directory tests, but only when processing thirdparty\tests (under Windows). The problem is if I just use --exclude=tests I exclude too many directories, including a test directory in the code I'm actively working on.
Here are some things I've tried:
--exclude=thirdparty\tests
--exclude=thirdparty\\tests
--exclude=*\thirdparty\tests
--exclude=*\\thirdparty\\tests
--exclude=thirdparty/tests
Ctags silently ignores all these as evidenced by an examination of the tags file.
How can I exclude a directory only when it is preceded by a given parent directory?
Scrollbars get quite a bit of use in the site i'm working on and how they look on some OS's really doesn't fit with the design - especially if someone's running xp!
looking for a lightweight css / jquery method of custom styling my scrollbars?
Hi!
I'm about to replace my oldfashioned sessionbased server solutions with RESTful ones.
Where can I find information about design principles concerning security, authentication etc. when moving into this stateless domain?
I need to find solutions that work with different client platforms (Flex/Air, Browser, desktop and mobile apps etc.). Right now I work with php in the server end.
I am involved in a contest, and in one event we have debugging questions. I have to design some really good debugging problems in C and C++.
How can I create some good problems on debugging? What aspects should I consider while designing the problems?
HI, I am trying to build an certification Test engine in my website techification.com
Can any one please help me, what are the things That i need to consider before I start design and implementation.
This application will be for all the users who are willing to take Sun certification or any certifications and they can come to techification.com and take the online exam and get evaluated before they take the actual Exam.
I'm pretty sure you can, but in addition to answering the question in the title, could you also explain the pros, cons, caveats, if any, to doing so? I know that you can't return a List, Set, Collection, Map, or any interface, from a WebMethod (which is stupid, IMO, but I don't know what the design reasons were should I should probably withhold judgment).
Thanks for any advice.

I've got a few methods that should call System.exit() on certain inputs. Unfortunately, testing these cases causes JUnit to terminate! Putting the method calls in a new Thread doesn't seem to help, since System.exit() terminates the JVM, not just the current thread. Are there any common patterns for dealing with this? For example, can I subsitute a stub for System.exit()?
[EDIT] The class in question is actually a command-line tool which I'm attempting to test inside JUnit. Maybe JUnit is simply not the right tool for the job? Suggestions for complementary regression testing tools are welcome (preferably something that integrates well with JUnit and EclEmma).
Hi ,
Please give me a real time simple example for the below questions :
Where to use interface rather abstract class
Where to use abstract class rather interface
I need code snippet for both .
Which takes low memory and which performs well . Do I need to consider the design aspect also?
What is the conceptual difference not the syntactical difference .
I'm skinning scrollbar in my flex app and got one problem.
This white square between scrollbars(view the image) ruibs all my design and i need to disable it, make it invisible, change it background color, alpha or smth like this.
I can paste some code here but i think there is no need in it.
Working in Flex 3.
any ideas?

Hi,
I have design problem regarding async calls to method.
I'd like to know best/good pattern to call async method, which calls another async method, which calls another async method :)
In other words, I have WCF service reference created with async methods and I want to call them from another async method which is called by other async method.
All this for non blocking GUI.
Thanks!
I am looking at redesigning my website and was wondering if I could get some opinions.
I know that the rule is usually to design with users without JS first and foremost, but having looked at the stats, it appears 95% of the users online have JS enabled.
Would you recommend designing the website using JS and not bothering about people without it?
I found at this Adobe tutorial a nice "RemoteService" class that creates a RemoteObject and contains the functions for handling the result and fault events. If I wanted to use this approach, how could I pass the data from the result handler to interfaces that modules from the main application could use?
I could put the RemoteService/RemoteObject in the modules, but (in my opinion- and I could be wrong) the best design seems to be using the remote calls in the main app and passing the data along to the modules.
I'm trying to add a Menu Item to the Run Menu in Eclipse via a plugin.
However, I only want this Item to appear when I'm in the "Report Design" perspective (this is for BIRT).
Secondly, (if possible) I'd like the menu item to be only enabled if the extension of the open file is .rptdesign.
I'm not having any luck using either of the visibility or visibleWhen elements in the plugin.xml
Any hints appreciated,
Ro
hi everyone,
I'm looking for a code that allows me to search from file , for example, in my program which is shoes shop's program . I should design and implement interfaces which have to search data from file TXT. the idea is that when I choose one item like type of shoes the program should display all other times such as color, size and price .
Thanks in advance.
I'm working on a Grails web app that would be similar in access patterns to StackOverflow or MyLifeIsAverage - users can vote on entries, and their votes are used to sort a list of entries based on the number of votes. Votes can be placed while the sorted select queries are being performed.
Since the selects would lock a large portion of the table, it seems that normal transaction locking would cause updates to take forever (given enough traffic). Has anyone worked on an app with a data access pattern such as this, and if so, did you find a way to allow these updates and selects to happen more or less concurrently? Does anyone know how sites like SO approach this?
My thought was to make the sorted selects dirty reads, since it is acceptable if they're not completely up to date all of the time. This is my only idea for possibly improving performance of these selects and updates, but I thought someone might know a better way.
