  • Faster code with another compiler

    I'm using the standard gcc compiler in math software development with C-language. I don't know that much about compilers or compiler options, and I was just wondering, is it possible to make faster executables using another compiler or choosing better options? The default Makefile sets options -ffast-math and -O3 and I think both of them have some impact in the overall calculation time. My software is using memory quite extensively, so I imagine some options related to memory management might do the trick? Any ideas?

  • More trivia than really important: Why no new() constraint on Activator.CreateInstance<T>() ?

    I think there are people who may be able to answer this, this is a question out of curiosity: The generic CreateInstance method from System.Activator, introduced in .NET v2 has no type constraints on the generic argument but does require a default constructor on the activated type, otherwise a MissingMethodException is thrown. To me it seems obvious that this method should have a type constraint like Activator.CreateInstance<T>() where T : new() { ... } Just an omission or some anecdote lurking here?

    What are the most reliable encodings for sending email? I had some problems recently with .NET's System.Net.Mail default of quoted-printable ('=0D=0A' scattered throughout the message). So I changed to iso-8859-1 for the body (set via alternative views), and 7bit for transfer (and base64 for embedded resources). Are there the better choices?

    I have a Reports controller and various reports: http://localhost/reports/main/this_month http://localhost/reports/main/last_month http://localhost/reports/main/this_year I wanted http://localhost to default to http://localhost/reports/main/this_month. That is easy enough using map.root in my routes.rb. However when I do this any links to http://localhost/reports/main/this_month are now shortened to just http://localhost. I want the links to stay full

    Is there a way to display the path of the solution in the Visual Studio window's name? By default it displays (SolutionName) - Microsoft Visual Studio, I would like it to instead show something like (SolutionName) - (PathToSolution) - Microsoft Visual Studio. The reason behind this is I can have multiple versions of a project checked out at a time (staging and trunk for example) and I'd like a quick way of checking without going through prompts etc.

But at the time I add filter_resource_access or filter_access_to into my usersController i always get "Couldn't find User without an ID".     In a WebForm I have TextBox FreeTextBox(Third party tool) CheckBox I gave tab index value for TextBox as 1 and CheckBox as 2 by setting TextBox to default focus.     Hi, I have a Grails (GAnt) script with the following target: includeTargets << grailsScript("_GrailsInit") includeTargets << grailsScript("_GrailsPlugins" target('default': "Does something awesome!") { depends(updatePluginsList) // Implementation omitted } Since upgrading to Grails 1.3.1, when I run this I get the error groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: updatePluginsList for class: So it appears that the target updatePluginsList has disappeared. This target used to be provided by Grails, so I guess it's either been removed or renamed in a recent release? Thanks, Don
