Learning OpenGL ES 1.x

What is the quickest way to come up to speed on OpenGL ES 1.x? Let's assume I know nothing about OpenGL (which is not entirely true, but it's been a while since I last used OpenGL). I am most interested in learning this for iPhone-related development, but I'm interested in learning how it works on other platforms as well. I've found the book OpenGL ES 2.0 Programming Guide, but I am concerned that it might not be the best approach because it focuses on 2.0 rather than 1.x. My understanding is that 2.0 is not backwards-compatible with 1.x, so I may miss out on some important concepts. Htaccess strange behaviour with Nginx

I have a site running on Nginx (v1.0.14) serving as reverse proxy which proxies requests to Apache (v2.2.19). So Nginx runs on port 80, Apache is on 8080. Overall site works fine except that i cannot block access to certain directories with .htaccess file. For example i have 'my-protected-directory' on 'www.site.com' Inside it i have htaccess with following code: <Files *> order deny,allow deny from all allow from 1.2.3.4 <--- my ip address here </Files> When i try to access this page with my ip (1.2.3.4) i get 404 error which is not what i expect: http://www.site.com/my-protected-directory However everything works as expected when this page is served directly by Apache. How to specify schema location in an xsd file?

I have an xsd file Foo.xsd. I tried following ways to refer it in a WSDL file but it doesnt work. 1) placed the xsd file in local file system and imported it as <xsd:import namespace="http://ws.test.com/" schemaLocation="file:///D:/wsdl/Foo.xsd"></xsd:import> 2) Placed the xsd file in web root folder and imported as <xsd:import namespace="http://ws.test.com/" schemaLocation="http://localhost:8080/Xfire/Foo.xsd"></xsd:import> When I run the client I get null for the fields of response object. But this works when I embed the type definition inside the WSDL itself. How do we specify the path to external xsds? I am using xFire 1.2.6 for generating webservices. Client is generated using xFire WSGen ant task.

Optimizing a fluid grid layout

I recently just added a grid layout, but I can't figure out how to make my links work. The grid that I used is the 1140 one at http://cssgrid.net/. I studied the source code of that website, and tried to make my page like theirs, but when I put everything in it made mine worse, and the grid didn't even work. This is how my website is supposed to look http://spencedesign.netau.net/singaporehome.html and this is how it does http://spencedesign.netau.net/home.html And when you reduce the size, it doesn't look like it's supposed to. When you minimize it I want the pictures(links) to be two per row, then one per row depending on how small the page is. I also want the quote to turn into different rows when it is too small for it. But I can't figure out how to make the page look normal regularly let alone make it look good with a smaller browser. Thanks!

JQuery overlay - issues with opening twitter "Allow Access" box

Hey guys I'm using Jquery flowplayer tools overlay to open external links. External links are working fine with this piece of code shown in the link: http://www.demiseonline.com/misc/Iframeoverlay.html Now using this overlay - I wanted to open the twitter dialog which asks users to Allow access to their account. So in the code below, I replaced http://www.google.com with https://twitter.com/oauth/authenticate?oauth_token=VPVRIsnRz9IX4CAab7brert3jHiEs <div class="apple_overlay black" id="Overlay1" <iframe src ="http://www.google.com" width="100%" height="595px" frameborder="0" </iframe </div When I replace the code, as soon as I load the page, even before I click on the link to open the overlay - the page gets redirected to the twitter URL. Any idea why that happens for this URL. Thanks

How are benchmarks for multiple cores calculated?

I found this site to compare CPU's. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html What wasn't clear is how the benchmark for multiple core processors is calculated. If one CPU has 4 cores (such as Intel Core i7 which comes in 2, 4, and 6 core versions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_i7#Core_i7), does that mean that the benchmark should be double that of the version that has 2 cores (assuming the same clock frequency)?

I want to have a function which gets a text as the input and gives back the text with URLs made to HTML links as the output. Can we add new attribute or change type of existing attribute to a "Referenced Element"?

In my XML schema I have an element being referenced tens of times by other elements but with different enumerated values for one of its attribute. For now, instead of creating this element in global space and referencing it later, I am creating a new instance wherever it is needed. This approach has increased my schema size enormously because of repeated creation of almost same element many times. It also may have adverse effect on efficiency of the schema. The only way that I see is to create element once and then reference it many times but my problem is: one of the attribute of this referenced element is required to have a different set of enumerations for each referencing element. My question is: Is it possible to to add an attribute to a "Referenced Element" in XML Schema? I created two files 'hello.pl' and 'hello.cgi' with the code below. #!/usr/bin/perl print "Content-type:text/html\n\n"; print "hello world"; I can view the page via both http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/hello.pl and http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/hello.cgi. Which one is more sense in Perl web dev? BTW, the directory of 'cgi-bin' created by my VPS server, Do I need contact with my VPS support to remove it or just remain it like this URL style? Maybe http://www.mydomain.com/perDev/hello.cgi is better?

I can't change a value, for a web service using an axiom client!

Hi.I just started learning about web serices. I succesfuly installed Tomcat, and deployed axis2 on it. I followed the tutorial from here http://ws.apache.org/axis2/1_1_1/quickstartguide.html . I made the StockQuoteService web service, moved the .aar file in the WEB-INF/services folder and tested it - it worked all fine. Then I made a client for the servce. I took the source code of the file AXIOMClient.java from the dir described here http://ws.apache.org/axis2/1_1_1/quickstartguide.html#clientaxiom , imported the classes in Eclipse Java IDE and runned it. I tested and the update method works from the browser when calling http://localhost:8080/axis2/services/StockQuoteService/update?symbol=WSO&price=144 But from my java client update method is not working at all, when calling getPrice I always receive 42.00. What am I doing wrong? or, how can I trace what is happening?

Servlet 3 spec and ThreadLocal

As far as I know, Servlet 3 spec introduces asynchronous processing feature. Among other things, this will mean that the same thread can and will be reused for processing another, concurrent, HTTP request(s). This isn't revolutionary, at least for people who worked with NIO before. Anyway, this leads to another important thing: no ThreadLocal variables as a temporary storage for the request data. Because if the same thread suddenly becomes the carrier thread to a different HTTP request, request-local data will be exposed to another request. All of that is my pure speculation based on reading articles, I haven't got time to play with any Servlet 3 implementations (Tomcat 7, GlassFish 3.0.X, etc.). So, the questions: Am I correct to assume that ThreadLocal will cease to be a convenient hack to keep the request data? Has anybody played with any of Servlet 3 implementations and tried using ThreadLocals to prove the above? Apart from storing data inside HTTP Session, are there any other similar easy-to-reach hacks you could possibly advise?

I'm setting up a Squid forward proxy and I'm wondering if I could configure Squid in such a way that the connection from my web browser to squid is https regardless of whether the connection from squid to the destination website is http or https. In other words, I want my connection from my web browser to my forward proxy to be encrypted even though I'm just surfing normal http website through that proxy. Can it be done?

Is there an easy way to concatenate several lines of text into a string without constantly appending

So I essentially need to do this: String text = "line1\n"; text += "line2\n"; text += "line3\n"; useString( text ); There is more involved, but that's the basic idea. Is there anything out there that might let me do something more along the lines of this though? DesiredStringThinger text = new DesiredStringThinger(); text.append( "line1" ); text.append( "line2" ); text.append( "line3" ); useString( text.toString() ); Obviously, it does not need to work exactly like that, but I think I get the basic point across. There is always the option of writing a loop which processes the text myself, but it would be nice if there is a standard Java class out there that already does something like this rather than me needing to carry a class around between applications just so I can do something so trivial. I need to make my image fitting into my div, I want the picture to be only inside the div, the rest of the picture will be behind the other elements. As you can see first i gave margin-bottom="350px to the header in order to create a blank space, here i have the space for the img in my div id="background"which is located under (z-index: -1;) and the rest of the elements is placed over inside the the div id="content" (z-index:2;) I need now a Javascript which fit this image in the div id="background". How to get corresponding build artifacts of a job in jenkins ?

I create Jenkins jobs using hudson.cli.CLI jar. I have selected "Archive the artifacts" option in the "Post-build steps" section. It archives the artifacts on each succesfull build. I am using jenkins remote access api http://localhost:8080/job/job_name/api/json to get details about jobs. and http://localhost:8080/job/job_name/job_number/api/json to get details about builds. When I delete a build corresponding archived artifacts are not deleted. I'd like to make sure that they are deleted. When I use jenkins remote access api http://localhost:8080/job/[job_name]/[job_number]/api/json for a build, it returns json data which contains all previously archived artifacts (other successful builds artifacts) with this (running build) build artifact. How do I get related artifact of a build (a successful build should return its artifact, not all previous successfull artifacts). Any suggestions or ideas ?

PhpMyAdmin Hangs On MySQL Error

I'm currently running PhpMyAdmin 4.0.10 (the latest version supporting PHP 4.2.X) on my Amazon EC2 connecting to a MySQL database on RDS. Everything works perfectly fine except actions that return a mysql error message. Whether I perform "any" kind of action that will return a mysql error, Phpmyadmin will hang with the yellow "Loading" box forever without displaying anything. For example, if I perform the following command in MySQL CLI : select * from 123; It instantly returns the following error : ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '123' at line 1 which is completely normal because table 123 doesn't exist. However, if I execute the exact same command in the "SQL" box in Phpmyadmin, after I click "Go" it'll display "Loading" and stops there forever. Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue with Phpmyadmin? Is this a bug or I have something wrong with my config.inc.php? Any help would be much appreciated. Use alternative browser with Subversion URLs

We have subversion setup with http access through apache at http ://svn.local/ This provides access through svn clients and the standard svn repository browser. We also have a separate repository browser installed at http ://svn-browser.local/ (fisheye in this case). Is it possible to change the subversion/apache server so that browser requests are redirected to the subversion browser, but requests from svn clients go to the subversion server? Essentially, I'd like to use a single URL to identify a resource in both svn clients and the svn browser and be able to copy the url from a svn client into a web browser to have the enhanced functionality provided by the browser.

I am creating a Blackjack Card game emulator. I am a SCJP,familiar with Core Java concepts. I have a very basic understanding of Java swings and awt. Already finished writing the basic game logic,a CLI logic. My design includes several classes like, Dealer,Player,Table,Card,Casino and some others.. Enums for Cards and suite. I have read about MVC as a theoretical concept, familiar with the name 'design patters'(no understanding whatsoever as to how they are implemented) Everywhere I am suggested to learn while writing some real code.So I started off with this... I am stuck now, how should I go about writing code for my project?? Writing the GUI code and organising it within the already existent code.

Getting started with Rails testing

I asked a question about different testing frameworks yesterday. This question can be found here. Now that I have a better understanding of the different frameworks, I have a very simple question: With a basic understanding, but very limited experience with writing tests with rails' built in testing framework (basic assertions), would it be okay for me to jump directly to testing with RSpec, Webrat, and Cucamber? Thank you! As a side note: yes, this is an opinion based question, but I feel that the input received to this question is valuable enough to the community to keep this question open. Thanks.
