  • Toastr Is a Simple Reminder-on-Unlock Tool for Android

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
Android: if you’re looking for a dead simple reminder tool, Toastr pops up a reminder when you unlock your lock screen. While there’s no shortage of calendar and reminder tools in the Android Market, most of them are overkill if all you want to set up is a simple pop-up reminder. Toastr is a free app (the premium option unlocks minor tweaks like the ability to alter the font) that allows you to set a simple pop-up notification that persists for a few seconds after you unlock your phone. • Help with creating symbolic link

    - by user1737794
I'm a little bit confused with how the symbolic links work. I hope someone can guide me in the right direction. I want to put a demo online from our software, which normally only runs locally on a Mac Mini. So I put all the files in the var/www from my Ubuntu 12.04 server installation. There are a lot of hardcoded links in the software which point to "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/narrowcasting" Of course I can change all these code on my html/php files in /var/www, but that would be quite annoying. I hope I can fix this by creating a symbolic link. For example I have a directory called thumb in /var/www/thumb. The php code is trying to put a image in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/narrowcasting/thumb. Can anyone give me a tip how to achieve this with a symbolic link? Thanks in advance.

  • Intel NUC Video Blur

    - by donopj2
I recently purchased the D34010WYKH NUC and I figured this would be a great time to make the jump to a Linux based system. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, and I'm having an issue with video rendering that is driving me mad. Essentially videos (all 1080p mkv files) appear to be slowly blurring, and its most noticeable when the camera remains on a scene for a long period of time. Then all of a sudden the video will correct the blur and the image will be sharp, only to begin happening again followed by more sudden and noticeable corrections. I have seen the exact same issue in both VLC and XBMC and across several different videos. I have installed the latest Intel graphics drivers, and searched the web but to be honest I'm not sure how to accurately describe this problem. I'm also quite new to the OS, so my experience tinkering is limited. Has anyone experienced this type of issue before? Can it be resolved?

  • Star Trail Photos Taken from the International Space Station

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
While most people have seen a star trail photo or two, seeing a set of star trail photos taken from over 300 miles above the Earth’s surface is a treat. Courtesy of Astronaut and Expedition 31 Flight Engineer Don Pettit, the photos capture star trails from the vantage point of the International Space Station. He explains his technique: My star trail images are made by taking a time exposure of about 10 to 15 minutes. However, with modern digital cameras, 30 seconds is about the longest exposure possible, due to electronic detector noise effectively snowing out the image. To achieve the longer exposures I do what many amateur astronomers do. I take multiple 30-second exposures, then ‘stack’ them using imaging software, thus producing the longer exposure. • Rich Snippets - LocalBusiness - Photos - Correct Implementation

    - by user32622
Does somebody know, how this is supposed to be implemented correctly? In my local business full page, I have a carousel with several images, so what I did is that on the container of this carousel i have written the following: "itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"", i.e. <div class="tourism-product-media-gallery" itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"> and then on each and every image i have written the following: "itemprop="contentURL"", i.e. <img src="@mediaItem.NormalImage" alt="@mediaItemCaption" itemprop="contentURL"/> But i am not convinced that this is the way it should be. Anyone has any insight on this and more knowledge? Thanks Note: here are the results from the rich snippet google testing tool: click here

  • Does somebody know of a testcase(s) of libRocket

    - by Bjorn
Today I implemented the interfaces for libRocket in my engine using opengl 3.3. I got a standard rml file and some fonts and images which where needed in this rml file. It seems that the page/rml I'm rendering know is the correct one, but I'm not 100% sure. Also because I still don't know a lot of rml and it is a fairly complex one. So my question: Are there any testcases for example an rml with images and fonts with the result as it should be rendered in a png or some other image format? If there aren't would somebody who actually implemented the libRocket interface correctly be so kind and share a result of a rendering in a png with the rml tobe rendered?

  • Self Documenting Code Vs. Commented Code

    - by Phill
I had a search but didn't find what I was looking for, please feel free to link me if this question has already being asked. Earlier this month this post was made: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/why-youre-a-bad-php-programmer/ Basically to sum it up, you're a bad programmer if you don't write comments. My personal opinion is that code should be descriptive and mostly not require comment's unless the code cannot be self describing. In the example given // Get the extension off the image filename $pieces = explode('.', $image_name); $extension = array_pop($pieces); The author said this code should be given a comment, my personal opinion is the code should be a function call that is descriptive: $extension = GetFileExtension($image_filename); However in the comments someone actually made just that suggestion: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/why-youre-a-bad-php-programmer/comment-page-2/#comment-357130 The author responded by saying the commenter was "one of those people", i.e, a bad programmer. What are everyone elses views on Self Describing Code vs Commenting Code?

  • HTG Explains: How Windows 8's Secure Boot Feature Works & What It Means for Linux

    - by Chris Hoffman
Whether you plan on using Windows 8 or not, everyone buying a PC in the future will end up with the Microsoft-driven Secure Boot feature enabled. Secure Boot prevents “unauthorized” operating systems and software from loading during the startup process. Secure Boot is a feature enabled by UEFI – which replaces the traditional PC BIOS – but Microsoft mandates specific implementations for x86 (Intel) and ARM PCs. Any computer with a Windows 8 logo sticker has Secure Boot enabled. • Gerrit ssh key setup on windows server

    - by hotpotato
I am attempting to configure google's 'Gerrit' code review web app on a Windows server 2008 virtual machine on our internal network. We are using Apache Tomcat (6.0.36) to host the web app and have deployed the gerrit.war to tomcats webapp folder, setup the context.xml, web.xml etc for the web app correctly i believe. However when i startup Tomcat using the $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.bat i get the following message in the tomcat logs: *Dec 07, 2012 1:03:54 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext listenerStart SEVERE: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class com.google.gerrit.httpd.WebAppInitializer com.google.inject.CreationException: Guice creation errors:* 1) No SSH keys under C:\Gerrit\config\etc while locating com.google.gerrit.sshd.HostKeyProvider at com.google.gerrit.sshd.SshModule.configure(SshModule.java:90) I have created a is_rsa.pub SSH key and placed it in the specified directory to no avail. I have been googling this for about a week now and can't seem to find any information about the file or format it is expecting... documentation on setting gerrit up on windows seems hard to come by! Can anyone provide useful information about how to correctly configure a host SSH key in this context?

  • Smooth animation in Cocos2d for iOS

    - by MrDatabase
I move a simple CCSprite around the screen of an iOS device using this code: [self schedule:@selector(update:) interval:0.0167]; - (void) update:(ccTime) delta { CGPoint currPos = self.position; currPos.x += xVelocity; currPos.y += yVelocity; self.position = currPos; } This works however the animation is not smooth. How can I improve the smoothness of my animation? My scene is exceedingly simple (just has one full-screen CCSprite with a background image and a relatively small CCSprite that moves slowly). I've logged the ccTime delta and it's not consistent (it's almost always greater than my specified interval of 0.0167... sometimes up to a factor of 4x). I've considered tailoring the motion in the update method to the delta time (larger delta = larger movement etc). However given the simplicity of my scene it's seems there's a better way (and something basic that I'm probably missing).

• Pressing p in dash results in weird B

    - by ayckoster
Today I tried to open Skype in my dash and discovered that my "p" key does not work properly. Instead of p I get B. In every other application the key works properly. When I copy the text "skyBe" from dash into another application it sais "skype". I tried every other character and they seem fine, it's only the "p" key. I think that the problem is dash. Anyone else has the same problem? Here is an image. I enter "skype" and get this: What causes this problem and how can I fix it? • How can I set up Redmine => Active Directory authentication?

    - by Chris R
First, I'm not an AD admin on site, but my manager has asked me to try to get my personal Redmine installation to integrate with ActiveDirectory in order to test-drive it for a larger-scale rollout. Our AD server is at host:port ims.example.com:389 and I have a user IMS/me. Right now, I also have a user me in Redmine using local authentication. I have created an ActiveDirectory LDAP authentication method in RedMine with the following parameters: Host: ims.example.com Port: 389 Base DN: cn=Users,dc=ims,dc=example,dc=com On-The-Fly User Creation: YES Login: sAMAccountName Firstname: givenName Lastname: sN Email: mail Testing this connection works just fine. I have, however, not successfully authenticated with it. I've created a backup admin user so that I can get back in to the me account if I break things, and then I've tried changing me to use the ActiveDirectory credentials. However, once I do, nothing works to log in. I have tried all of these login name options: me IMS/me IMS\me I've used my known Domain password, but no joy. So, what setting do I have wrong, or what information do I need to acquire in order to make this work?

  • The best tile based level design [on hold]

    - by ReallyGoodPie
My current method for tile based levels is to put everything in an array like the following: grass = g sky = s house = h ... """ ["SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"], ["SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"], ["HHHHHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"], ["GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG"], """ I would then run a for loop to pass these on to a sprite class, bliting the images to the screen. This is what I'd generally do in pygame when I am creating levels for a tile based RPG's. However, as I've gone on, I have added allot more sprites and image and it is seriously becoming more and more confusing to work with this and allot of mistakes are being made. What is the best alternative or other methods for doing this?

  • How should one refer to their social network profiles in prints?

    - by Omne
In case a person has many different social network profiles, what is the proper way of referring to those profiles in a work that is meant to be printed or may be viewed as an image? For example one owns the username "CoolCompany" on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other websites. Should they provide a URL for each profile? for example: Facebook.com/CoolCompany Twitter.com/CoolCompany ... I often notice that in videos or on TV people may only use the logos but I believe it is not very useful, specially in case that the audience are unfamiliar with a social network... Is it acceptable to provide the logos or names of the networks and mention the username only once like this: Facebook & Twitter: @CoolCompany Or Facebook & Twitter: /CoolCompany

  • Customizing Google Sites look and feel

    - by David Parunakian
I find the site layout and theming capabilities in Google Sites (found in the Manage Site screen) very limited; for instance, I do not seem to be able to place the horizontal navigation buttons directly to the right of the logo and to customize their style, as well as to use the standard trick of making a horizontally stretchable background image of a box with rounded corners by splitting it into three parts and replicating the middle one, etc. Am I missing something? Are there any advanced settings available? Thanks.

  • Expanding your home directory size

I would like to copy or expand my /home directory ... All tutorials talks about moving the home directory from a partition to another but the problem that I only have one partition that was more than 300 gigs (before I resize it and create a new partition) although I see 30 Gigs only on my home directory (4 Gigs left :( ) I resized it and created a new partition as you can see in the next image I've tried booting from Ubuntu live CD and from a USB and what I can see in Gparted is exactly as in the picture below I would like to move my home directory to the new partition of expand it. • Box2D Platform body not moving player body along with it

    - by onedayitwillmake
I am creating a game using Box2D (Javascript implementation) - and I added the ability to have a static platform, that is moved along an axis as a function of a sine. My problem is when the player lands on the platform, as the platform moves along the X axis - the player is not moved along with it, as you visually would expect. The player can land on the object, and if it hits the side of the object, it does colide with it and is pushed. This image might explain better than I did: After jumping on to the red platform the player character will fall off as the platform moves to the right UPDATE: Here is a live demo showing the problem: http://onedayitwillmake.com/ChuClone/slideexample.php

  • Are there any non-english programming languages? [closed]

    - by samarudge
Possible Duplicate: Non-English-based programming languages Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I'm going to anyway. Without fail, every programming language I've ever seen, used or heard of has it's keywords based around English. if, else, while, for, query, foreach, image, path, extension, the list goes on, are all based around English words. Are there any languages, or ports of languages that base their core keywords based on non-english words to lower the wall for non-english speaking programmers? This is mostly for intrest (English is my first language so it's no problem for me). Are these languages popular locally (I.E. might a software development house in Germany use a programming language based in German over one based in English).
