.NET 4 includes new concurrent data structures. The Bag and Dictionary collections have obvious applications but I cannot see any use for the Queue and Stack data structures. What are people using these for?
Also, I've noticed that the design based upon linked lists incurs a lot of allocation and that destroys scalability. This is surprising given that the sole purpose of these collections is multicore programming. Is this an inherent limitation or are they just badly implemented?
In a project using .Net4 - should there be any issues referencing dlls built for older versions of .Net? We're talking 3rd Party dlls here.
I'm asking this as a general question. Specifically I have a problem referencing FluentNHibernate.dll - built with .Net3.5. It worked justed fine before I updated my project from .Net3.5 to .Net4.
I'm writing a .NET application that will make an RPC call to a Java application (via a message queue). The data sent in both directions will be large arrays of floating-point numbers. What is the best way to serialize them to send them across the wire? I'd like something more compact than text, but architecture-independent as the server may not be an x86 machine. The Java application can be changed as needed.
As far as I know, for installation of an assmebly for .NET is as follows.
'gacutil /i nunit.framework.dll'
And for the mono, set the directory to MONO_PATH is doing the job.
Is this correct?
I recently read this Phil Haack post (The Most Useful .NET Utility Classes Developers Tend To Reinvent Rather Than Reuse) from last year, and thought I'd see if anyone has any additions to the list.
I can't find any good documentation on what the concept of a Class Loader is in the .NET Framework? What is it? Where can it be found? Does anyone know?
Hi,
I'm new to C# and .NET, ,and have been reading around about it.
I need to know why and when do I need to release resources? Doesn't the garbage collector take care of everything? When do I need to implement IDisposable, and how is it different from destructor in C++?
Also, if my program is rather small i.e. a screensaver, do I need to care about releasing resources?
Thanks.
I need a way of generating a word document (from a template or something) and inserting an image at a specific place. Does anyone have any pointers on the best way to do this?
I worked on a project that used Office Automation in .NET 1.1 a few years ago, and it was really unspeakably poor. I'm assuming OA has either been improved or been superceeded by a better solution, but I'm not finding much advice on google.
Is there a blog or MSDN article, which lists all the new methods which are added in .Net 4.0 in existing classes? I could not find any.
Two which I found on blogs till now:
String.IsNullOrWhiteSpace
Enum.HasFlag
Are there more such methods added which anybody found? If yes, please share.
I am using Eazfuscator.NET 3.0.41 to obfuscate a (VS 2010) WPF 4 application. After obfuscating, when I double click the exe file it's throwing an error message like this.
"Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException"
Is there a way I could enable some sort of a logging to check where it's going wrong ? How can I solve this problem? please advice
I would like to be able to display the version of the .NET framework a windows form or wpf project is targeted at and display it in the title bar of the app.
Is there a way I can do this?
Thanks
Hello All, I'm searching for a plot .NET component to plot a 2D line chart, given an array of data. It will be used with WindowsForm (C#) and It will be very helpful if it could be freeware. It is for a scientific application.
This is my first asked question in stackoverflow, and excuse me for my terrible English written.

Looking for a variety of Windows Form (winforms) tutorials for visual studio.NET C++

Suppose I want to use the ASCII special character FS(0x1C) in a .Net string, and then be able to format a byte array from that same string with the special character properly represented as a single byte, how would I do that? I can't seem to get my head around it.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Hi
What are the possible ways of representing data in memory in .Net (or in general)?
It would be great if data could be sorted and looked up by key (or multiple keys).
We are thinking to use collections, arrays, list of collections/arrays. One object would be in several collections (one sorted asc, other desc, etc.).
Maybe this is not a good idea, and we would like to hear some other possible solutions.
Thank you
Consider we have .NET Winforms application or Console Application.
Can anyone tell me what will happen step-by-step until the WinForm or Console Application is launched. I would like know the internals - like how EXE will communicate with Framework, what is the role of CLR, what happens in case of exception while launching applicaiton itself.etc...
I came across this article discussing why the double-check locking paradigm is broken in java. Is the paradigm valid for .net (in particular, C#), if variables are declared volatile?
hi guys,
I am upgrading from vb6 to vb.net.
I used to list my query results in datagrid in my previous applications. What can be more visually attractive control in replacement of datagrid?
I hate the classic look of datagrid
