I know this is a real basic and stupid question but how do I run a perl script on OSX? I honestly can't find the answer anywhere! Presumably I have to run a command in Terminal but what?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
Which is the best Visual SVN Diff displayer for Linux.
BeyondCompare and VisualSVN1.5 work well on Windows. What are the equivallent tools for Linux. Specifically Ubuntu.
I know command line diff works; But I'd like multiple column syntax highlighted and differences.
Better if the tool has a support for Git and Hg as well.
Ant has a -e option for outputting error messages that can be parsed by emacs' compile command. For example, it is possible to do M-x compile, ant -e, then nagivate to any errors with C-x `.
Is it possible to make grails output its compilation errors in this format? Alternatively, is there an emacs variable that can be customized to handle error messages in the format that grails uses?
I'm using django orm and templates to create a background service that is ran as management command.
Do you know if django is thread safe?
I'd like to use threads to speed up processing.
The processing is blocked by I/O not CPU so I don't care about performance hit caused by GIL.
I there a way to see what Mercurial commands are issued by Tortoise HG? For instance, if I use the Shelve command in Tortoise, I'd like to see how (and if) it calls 'hg shelve' under the hood.
I've downloaded the IBM DBI package, including all the packages in my program as specified in the docs. I've cataloged the DB and can connect to it from the command line, but my DBI connect fails:
$dbh = DBI->connect ("dbi:DB2:warehou1", user, pass) or die "Can't connect to sample database: $DBI::errstr";
Can't connect to sample database: [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL1031N The database directory cannot be found on the indicated file system. SQLSTATE=58031
Is it possible to alter a table to add a new column and make that column a foreign key to another table in a single command in Postgresql? "alter table x add column y id references z(id)" doesn't seem to work as I had hoped.
Hi All,
I was writing a C program where I use 6 variables a,b,c,d,e,f
a,b,c are constant values which I should pass as an argument(command line)
d,e,f are going to be size of arrays(which are a part of a structure)
typedef struct
{
blah blah
} ex;
ex ex0[d];
I am very confused about how to pass all these as argument. Right now I have hard coded these values,which apparently I should not be doing.
Playing mp3s with the MediaPlayer object, I occasionally get the error "Command PLAYER_INIT completed with an error or info PVMFFailure." Curiously the MediaPlayer documentation doesn't reference this error at all.
Anyone familiar with this error and could shed some light on its cause?
Hi,
I have recently discovered the tablediff utility of SQL Server 2005.
I have 2 instances of the same database each on a different server.
Is it possible to compare all tables using tablediff without having to replicate the same command while only changing the table name?
For example, compare table1 on server1 with table1 on server2 then compare table2 on server1 with table2 on server2, until all tables have been compared.
I'm trying to use the C proprocessor on non-C code, and it works fine except for creating lines like this at the top:
# 1 "test.java"
# 1 "<built-in>"
# 1 "<command-line>"
# 1 "test.java"
The problem is that these lines aren't valid in Java. Is there any way to get the preprocessor to not write this stuff? I'd prefer not to have to run this through something else to just remove the first 4 lines every time.
Hi when ever perform select statements in the command line tool it doesnt use all of the space..

I want to know the physical video ram size in my application. I can get the same information of Nvidia card by using "nvidia-settings -q -t VideoRam".
I can use amdcccle to find this information, but it's an GUI app, so can't be used in my application. I wonder if there is a way to get this by command, function, or config file?
I'm using RHEL 5.4.
You can point a single symbol file to gdb with command symbol-file /usr/lib/debug/symbolfile.so
But how to tell gdb to load all symbol-files from given path including subdirectories?
somevar := apple
export somevar
update := $(shell echo "v=$$somevar")
all:
@echo $(update)
I was hoping to apple as output of command, however it's empty, which makes me think export and := variable expansion taking place on different phases. how to overcome this?
Hi all,

How do I get my .NET Winforms app 2.0 to automatically update it's publish revision integer subsequent to issuing the publish command from within VS08.
Trying to use the following C# as a guide
object[] attrs =
System.Reflection.Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(true);

if (o.GetType() == typeof(System.Reflection.AssemblyFileVersionAttribute))
label1.Text = ((System.Reflection.AssemblyFileVersionAttribute) o).Version;
I want to list all files on an FTP server using PHP. According to RFC 959 the FTP command LIST is allowed to print arbitrary human-readable information on files/folders, which seems to make it impossible to determine the file type correctly. But how do other FTP clients manage to distinguish files and folders? Is there an unwritten standard or such?
Hi,
I'm Having some trouble in a vm that seems to occur only once in a hundred during shutdown/reboot.
To help the debug, I'm thinking to write a script that runs on my desktop, which starts the vm and automate operations for a huge number of times (keyboard key pressed) whithin it. (VirtualBox preferred).
It's just exactly how a script using the expect lib would do with a program in command line.
I'm not sure it's possible, but anyway, if anyone has an idea...
Cheers
Hi there,
is it possible to start a new thread in a different process in Java?
I mean, I'm running a specific process and main thread, issuing ProcessBuilder for creating a new process. Before start() method is invoked, one must provide the command to be run in another process. Is it possible to start a new thread in newly created process?
Thank you in advance for the reply.
Best regards.
I'm rendering a template with a management command (something I need
for producing documentation in my native language). So I've no request
object, so no RequestContext. Is there a way I can force the template
rendering process to lookup translation strings from a particular
language other than English?
Internet Explorer has an option to save a web page as a text file, with all the tags removed. I need a way to batch process that stuff for a project at work. Or there any command line utilities or libraries that can do the same thing for me? COM-interop with IE(not my first choice!)? It doesn't have to format exactly like IE, just give me plain text.
I have a small script, which is called daily by crontab using the following command:
/homedir/MyScript &> some_log.log
The problem with this method is that some_log.log is only created after MyScript finishes. I would like to flush the output of the program into the file while it's running so I could do things like
tail -f some_log.log
and keep track of the progress, etc.
I have a PostgreSQL backup made with PHPPgadmin using Export Copy (instead Copy SQL which is actually what I need).
File contains entries like this:
COPY tablename(id, field) FROM stdin;
...
How to convert this file to SQL format?
INSERT INTO tablename...
I want to use Pgadmin to to import this file using execute SQL command.
