I plan to configure weblogic's gzip servlet filter (using weblogicx-gzip.jar) to gzip my web pages.
How can I verify that the pages are being sent to the client gzipped?
I'm playing around with Google Analytics goals / funnels. I would like to use this to track a checkout process, but the web flow urls are formated in a way that makes this very hard.
Would it be possible to change:
http://localhost:8080/checkout/checkout?execution=e1s2
.. into something more like this:
http://localhost:8080/checkout/checkout/shipping?execution=e1s2
or any thing else that would make them more trackable with Google Analytics?
How do I persist an ASP.Net class on PostBack? I've already taken the time to go to the database and fill my object with values when the page loads initially, so how can I save this object in an elegant way on a PostBack? The page that contains the custom object posts back to itself.
For what it's worth I'm using C# in an ASP.NET 3.5 Web Forms application.
I've read all over the Internet that I should not define fonts (or anything) with absolute pixel height/width/size and instead, use EM ... so that on higher resolution displays, my web site can scale appropriately.
However, what do I use to define IMAGE height/width ... because images won't scale well (they look pixelated)
I'm building a web site that needs to stream video and be friendly for handheld devices (especially the iPhone). Some handhelds don't support Flash so I'm avoiding the use of a Flash player. How does Youtube stream its videos so that they play on both desktops and iPhones? I'm looking for a player, or multiple players, which can be somehow activated based on the user's device.
Your help and guidance are much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello all
i need to operate smell web server in my application play flash swf files in my embedded browser , this application will be distributed to local users to desktop users
what is the best way to implement it in desktop application i mean ports / local host ?
I am trying to design the standards and patterns for implementing portlets/web gadgets with the main goal of maximizing interoperability if those components were hosted in a Java app server framework or within an existing ASP.NET technology (SharePoint webparts), or a client side-only framework.
Is there any guidance anywhere of the parts of different portlet standards that are shared between most portal frameworks?
Is the best I can hope for is to adhere to the JSR 168 and 286 standards and hitch my wagon to Java?
Question
I setup Hudson CI on a Windows 2008 server and now I want to be able to use the domain name to access it from any web browser. Right now I can only access it by using http://localhost:8080. How do I configure it to be public accessible?
Given a Web Service response object for which the Sun JAX-WS Reference Implementation has bindings to generate XML, how can I instruct the Sun JAX-WS RI construct a SOAP message that represents the object? The format of the output message should be identical to that which JAX-WS would generate if it were sending the message as a response to a SOAP request.
I have an IIS6 web server that is hosting two application pools. Occasionally, one of the w3wp processes will spike the CPU for a while, and both app pools seem to suffer the consequences. I'm not sure which one is which, and without that information I don't know which application to blame.
How can I tell which w3wp belongs to which App Pool?
The Java manual says:
The locks held on a particular file by a single Java virtual machine do not overlap. The overlaps method may be used to test whether a candidate lock range overlaps an existing lock.
I guess that if I lock a file in a tomcat web application I can't be sure that every call to this application is done by a different JVM, can I? So how can I lock files within my tomcat application in a reliable way?
I am working on an app which calls a rest web service. Sometimes the xml responses contain characters which the phone can not display. When displaying these characters, an empty box is displayed instead. I would like to filter out these characters. How can I detect if a character will be able to be displayed on the screen?
I am trying to read dataSource ad Catalog from connectionString in web.config in Silverlight business project. Unfortunately when I used "SqlConnectionStringBuilder", I could not read connectionstring the has "connectionString="metadata=res:///MainDatabase.Main.csdl|res:///MainDatabase.Main.ssdl|......."" where as it work for
"connectionString="Data Source=My-PC\SQL_2008;Initial Catalog =...."".
I could get them using "Split" however, I don't like that solution. Is there any way to get my requirements?
Thanks
I'm wondering if it is possible using .NET to call a remote web service and in effect specify which IP the call is made on.
I'm consuming a service that limits the number of calls I can make based on IP. The service costs in the 20k range after the free limit is used up. I'm very close to enough calls but not quite there using the free service. My server has 3 IP so I could in effect triple the number of calls I could make to the remote service by changing the IP.
I'm just trying to understand the Templating(system). If you use MVC in your web application then you don't need to use something like Smarty(template engine) as you are already separating application code from presentation code anyway by using MVC right? please correct me?
So am i correct in thinking it's MVC OR Templating or do you use both in your apps?If any one could explain this in detail it would be great.
Thank you in advance;-)
What can I do to make my PHP web application fail in a more noisy way?
I am using an MVC pattern and often when classes fail to load or failures they do so without error.
Hi,
I have followed http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3035932/liferay-custom-authentication-web-service link to customize authentication.
But Liferay is still checking whether the same user email id is configured in the liferay db or not. If its not, it is saying that authetication failed.
I do not want to keep any user information in the liferay db. Do any one know how to do that?
Regards

Visual Studio 2008 has a Copy Web Site tool that remembers previous FTP locations that files have been copied to. There is a "Connections" drop down where they are listed. I'd like to remove some old listings from that, but I can't find where they're stored.
I've looked at the solution file, and there's nothing there.

Can people explain what taxonomy means in terms of a web site?
My current understanding it a classification of the contents in relationship to each other, but it seems like it must go beyond that simplistic definition. and yes, I have read the wikipedia entry for this.
