Hi!
I'm a web developer/objective-c (mac) developer and I want to learn C# to code some .NET applications on Windows.
Do you know any good books or online guide about this?
Thanks a lot!
I need to monitor GPS Coordinates changes at every 15 min and take action based on that. as per bada developer guide report "only one application allowed to run at a time if another application try to run first one is closed" .so that how do i monitor GPS coordinates without interruption from other applications. how do i keep my application running at all times
I am creating a kiosk application and I want to ensure it is always, no matter what, on top of other Windows applications and the Windows task bar.
I am already blocking Windows keyboard commands (alt-tab, etc) but there are still situations that could cause an application to launch and steal the screen.
Is it possible to hook into Windows from .NET and continually test whether the application has focus and is on top, and if not then give it focus and make it on top?
There is a build / version number automatically increasing with Publish for ClickOnce applications. This version number is different from the assembly version in the project properties (which in turn is automatically displayed in a generated WPF about box).
Is there a way to sync the ClickOnce version number and the project number in the assembly properties? Goal is to get an automatically increasing and identical version number for both places.
Is there a debugging system that allows me to record javascript function calls and their parameters as they occur? this would allow me to trace and debug applications in live/client situations without the performance hit due to manual logging.
Edit: I'm not talking about manually calling functions using a 'console' window and viewing the results, or manually adding 'trace' or 'log' commands into my javascript. I need it to work with any running javascript.
Hi,
Can anybody recommend any good books on unit testing for multitesting applications.
Also can any body recommend appplications or utilities which can be used for multithreaded
testing, similar to the java tool ConTest, (which i've not used but a fried recommended)
Any help particularly related to C# unit testing for multithreaded apps in particularly welcome.
thanks.
Bob.
Hello Experts,
I need to run two web application in tomcat 6.0(Windows). My requirement is both applications should be in root folder to work.
Any clue where do I need to make changes to setting files ?
I'm a php developer from last 3-4 months. I used to write direct applications. Now i've decided to use a php framework. Which is the best suitable framework for me?
Currently i'm developing a application side by side i want to learn framework by doing some simple stuff and to use it in next project.
I have been using CouchDB on some prototype applications and it has been brilliant, very easy to use and extremely quick. I was wondering if anyone has been using it in production and have any views on it's reliability, performance suitability for operational management etc ?? I am considering using it to support a service layer and would make use of its replication functionality.
Any comments/experiences would be most welcome.
So far I've only build "small" graphical applications, using swing and JComponents as I learned at school. Yet I can't bear ugly JButtons anymore. I've tried to play with the different JButton methods, like changing colors, putting icons etc. but I'm still not satisfied. How do you make a nicer GUI in java ?
I'm looking for not-too-heavy alternatives (like, without big frameworks or too complicated libraries).
Hi All
What is the difference between the customErrors and httpErrors sections of the web.config file in ASP.NET applications?
What are the guidelines for using each section?
Thanks.

According to this discussion of Google App Engine on Hacker News,
A DB (read) request takes over 100ms on the
datastore. That's insane and unusable
for about 90% of applications.
How do you determine what is an acceptable response time for a DB read request?
I have been using App Engine without noticing any issues with DB responsiveness. But, on the other hand, I'm not sure I would even know what to look for in that regard :)
I have a SQL Server Express edition with management studio and i'm trying to use the enterprise disks ("SQL Server 2005" Enterprise Edition 32-bit Server Applications") and I can't get it to give me the option of installing the server components or a server instance. What am I missing?

User can switch active application by Alt+Tab or by clicking on thier pictograms in TaskBar. Is it possible to get the name (or other unique characterestic) of current active application?
I want to write a program which collects statistic of the applications usage.
My Android application uses a secret key to generate a token for authentication purposes. Is there a more secure way to store this than just putting this in the data store? I think for the iPhone, we store it in the keychain. I am aware of android.accounts.AccountManager, but this seems to give other applications potentially the ability to access the password (if the user selects the wrong option) and so seems less secure.
I've seen this type of problem before but only on ASP.net applications. I'm using a plain ol' WinForms application with Visual Studio 2008. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The error I get when trying to debug my solution is:
Error while trying to run project:
Unable to start debugging
Any ideas on how to fix this?
What are available resources I should look to in order to write an emulator for iPhoneOS? I'd like to write an emulator to run applications written for MacOS. I understand that I won't be able to use file system and other OS resources. I do have an SDK, XCode and all documentation for those resources, but I wonder if I can find some examples (perhaps similar to the emulator that can run Ninetendo games on iPhone)?
I am relatively new to android. I have two applications A and B. I have an activity in A, lets name it x, that would launch the application B. Now the intent sent by x contains StringExtra that I want the Starting activity in B to use. Is there a way for the activity in B to do that?
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm investigating the use of mono in real world high traffic web applications. There are some references on the mono site (companies using mono), but I couldn't find a high traffic website sample other than Deki powered ones. And I've read some mailings about mod_mono stability problems because of inexistence of compacting GC.
Please reference your app and give some info, if is there anyone using mono in production.
...or do I have to look at Java ?
Regards,
sirmak
I have long been a fan of _why's Camping microframework -- lightweight, great for microscopic applications (low concurrency, easy to use and edit and maintain), which is what I do. I'd love to know if there's something similar for PHP; full-blown app frameworks like CakePHP or Symphony are very large for what I do, but I can't seem to find nothing "less".
What PHP framework would you prefer, in this situation?
Thus far used sql server stored procedures for all my web applications... Now thought of moving to an ORM... I would like to ask SO users about LINQ to SQL
Is Linq to sql worth a try as a beginner to an ORM?
or should i look for some others... Any suggestion...
EDIT:
I have a sql server 2005 database with all tables....
How to use this db with Linq to sql?
I need inspiration and motivation so I'm trying to find examples of different programs that have interesting and attractive UI's created free using wxPython.
My searches have been slow to find results. I'm hoping you guys know of some of the best ones out there.
btw, I've seen these:
http://www.wxpython.org/screenshots.php
and the list under "Applications Developed with wxPython" on the wxPython Wikipedia page.
Update: only need Windows examples
I'm getting my first exposure to data warehousing, and I’m wondering is it necessary to have foreign key constraints between facts and dimensions. Are there any major downsides for not having them? I’m currently working with a relational star schema. In traditional applications I’m used to having them, but I started to wonder if they were needed in this case. I’m currently working in a SQL Server 2005 environment.
What is the easiest way to have an application launch at startup on Ubuntu server as daemon? This is a java application (java com.run.run.Run) etc.
How would I have it launch as a user and possibly have access to write to some log file where the user has permissions to write?
And if I don't end up doing that, how would I launch the application as the root user at startup.
Edited: It is a headless server, I don't have access to the desktop applications.
Hello everybody. I've got two web independent applications: ASP.NET www.site1.com and SL(3) app www.site2.com. How can i pass some data(id,strings) from asp.net to SL app. I was thinking about cookie, but I can't write cookies to any site. So is there any way to do it?
