• HTML5: Rendering absolute images using canvas

  I am experimenting with canvas as part of my HTML5 introduction. This constitutes as assignment work, but I am not asking for any help on the actual coursework at all. I am trying to write a rendering engine, but having no luck because once the image is drawn on canvas it looks very distorted, and not at the right dimensions of the image itself. I have made a animation engine that loads images into an array, and then iterates through them at a certain speed. This is not the problem, and I assume is not causing the issue as this was happening when I drawn an image to the canvas. I think this is natural behaviour for images to be scaled/skewed when the window is resized, so I conquered that by simply redrawing the whole thing once the window is resized. The images I am using are isometric, and drawn at a pixel level. Would this cause the distortion? It seems setting the dimensions on the drawImage() function are not working are all. I am using JavaScript for the manipulation and rendering of the canvas. I would normally try and work it out myself, but I do not have any time to ponder why because I have no idea why it is even scaling/skewing the image once it is drawn on the canvas. I cannot share the code for obvious reasons. I should also mention, the canvas's dimension is the total width of the viewport, as I am developing a game. My question is: Has anyone encountered this and how would I correct it? Thanks for your help.

• How to add an object to a html string?

  I'm trying to load several images by a drop action and than resizing them and adding them as a thumbnail. The resize part is very important because the images can be very large and I want to make the thumbnails small of size. When a file is loaded I add html to an array which I will print if the load is complete. The problem is I can't seem to add the img object (I need this object to resize the image) to the html string, which seems obvious as the img is an object... So my question to you guys is: how do I do this? :)

• Variable won't store in session

  So I'm trying to store the "rank" of a user when they log in to a control panel which displays different options depending on the given rank. I used the same method as I did for storing and displaying the username, which is displayed on the top of each page and works just fine. I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't work for the rank value, but I do know that it is not saving it in the session.   During loadView I am creating 20 UIButtons that I would like to change the title text of depending on the state of a UIPageControl. I have a pre-save plist that is loaded into a NSArray called arrChars on the event of the current page changing, I set the buttons titles to their relevant text title from the array. What am I doing wrong? I have been told before that tracking things by allocations is a bad way to chase leaks because as far as I can see, the object is not leaking in Instruments but my total living allocations continue to climb until I get a memory warning. If there is a better way to track there I would love to know.

  Hello all, Is there something simpler than the following. I am trying to make a GET request to a PHP script and then exit the current script. I think this is a job for CURL but is there something simpler as I don't want to really worry about enabling the CURL php extension? That can't be the best way to get the minimum! Why does it not advance to the next row? if I move the code: $this->listing = $result->fetch_array() or die('could not create object'); foreach ($this->listing as $key => $value) : $info[$key] = stripslashes(html_entity_decode($value)); endforeach; if I move this outside the class, it works exactly as expected outputting a row at a time while looping through the while statement. Is there a way to write this so that I can keep the fetch_array() call in the class and still loop through the records?

• Can I automate a loop query based on category with the page's title?

  To explain further, I need to get a page to display posts from a specific category. I want to automate this process so I don't have to make a template for each category. How would I do that? (keep in mind the person I'm building this is for has no coding experience.) The only way I could think off from the top of my head is to use the title or slug. So if the category is named the same thing as the slug, could I filter by category using the slug? Maybe this isn't the best way... what should I do? • Top n items in a List ( including duplicates )

  Trying to find an efficient way to obtain the top N items in a very large list, possibly containing duplicates. I first tried sorting & slicing, which works. But this seems unnnecessary. You shouldn't need to sort a very large list if you just want the top 20 members. So I wrote a recursive routine which builds the top-n list. This also works, but is very much slower than the non-recursive one! Question: Which is my second routine (elite2) so much slower than elite, and how do I make it faster ? My code is attached below. • Strange DataTable behaviour

  There´s a strange behaviour in my code which I can´t explain... I have worked arround it but I´d like to know the reason of this behaviour. My Code: If dataset.Tables.Count > 0 Then Dim rows() As DataRow = dataset.Tables(0).Select("FileID = " + fileid.ToString) For Each row As DataRow In rows... the one and only table in dataset is: 18 1 1 testpara42 19 1 2 Para2 23 2 1 Para1 24 2 2 Para42 Where the colums are: ParamID - FileID - ParaPos - Paravalue. I want do filter it so that the only rows I get are the ones with the correct fileid... the result when the selection string is "FileID = 1" is an array with 2 rows... everything is fine... but the filter string "FileID = 2" will return 0 Rows... A filter like "FileID < 1" returns 2 Rows correctly. I really cant´t explain this od behaviour, maybe one of the community does. The Table does have more entries but the Filter string just works with the "FileID = 1" selection. Excuse my bad english. Please explain my mistake to me.

• is_dir does not recognize folders

  Hi I am trying to make a function that scans a folder for subfolders and then returns a numeric array with the names of those folders. This is the code i use for testing. Any help is appreciated.

• MySQL Query - WHERE and IF?

  I'm not quite sure how to right this query. Basically, I'm going to have a table with two columns (OS and country_code) - more columns too, but those are the conditional ones. These will be either set to 0 for all, or specific ones, separated by commas. Now, what I'm trying achieve is pull data from the table if the OS and country_code = 0, or if they contain matching data (separated by commas). Then, I have a column for time. I want to select rows where the time is GREATER than the time column, unless the column time_t is set to false, in which case this shouldn't matter. I hope I explained it right?   Hi folks, not sure how to do this as ID's are ment to be unique but this is a dynamically series of forms generated from a php array - based on reading the file names in a directory - with the same ID. What I need to do is identify which form so the data can be processed.   I have an NSArray with Store objects. Each Store object has two NSString objects; StoreID and Name. I would like to check quickly if an ID exists in this NSArray with Store objects. Example: Store *s1 = [[Store alloc] init]; s1.name = @"Some Name"; s1.id = @"123ABC"; Store *s2 = [[Store alloc] init]; s2.name = @"Some Other Name"; s2.id = @"ABC123"; NSArray *array = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:s1, s2, nil]; NSString *myIdOne = @"ABCDEF"; NSString *myIdTwo = @"123ABC"; BOOL myIdOneExists = ...? BOOL myIdTwoExists = ...? Its the ...? I need to figure out. I know I can do this using a for loop and break when found... but this seems to me like an nasty approach since the NSArray could contain thousands of objects,... theoretically. So I would like to know about a better solution.

• How can a B-tree node be represented?

  We're learning B-trees in class and have been asked to implement them in code. The teacher has left choice of programming language to us and I want to try and do it in C#. My problem is that the following structure is illegal in C#, unsafe struct BtreeNode { int key_num; // The number of keys in a node int[] key; // Array of keys bool leaf; // Is it a leaf node or not? BtreeNode*[] c; // Pointers to next nodes } Specifically, one is not allowed to create a pointer to point to the structure itself. Is there some work-around or alternate approach I could use? I'm fairly certain that there MUST be a way to do this within the managed code, but I can't figure it out. EDIT: Eric's answer pointed me in the right direction. • [Rails] Accessing error_messages on form_tag

  I have built a custom form for creating a joining model on a has_many :through relationship. The models look roughly like this: class Team has_many :team_members has_many :members, :through => :team_members end class Member has_many :team_members has_many :teams, :through => :team_members end class TeamMember belongs_to :team belongs_to :member # and this model has some validations too end The form I have built is for selecting which members should be in a team. I won't paste the form, but it uses the form_tag method and basically sends an array of hashes which contain a member_id and a squad_number. I then update the database with an action that looks roughly like this (simplified a bit, but you get the jist): @team.transaction do @team.team_members = params[:team_members].collect{|tm| @team.team_members.new(tm)} if @team.save redirect_to ... else render :action => :members end end Everything works great but I am validating the squad_number for uniqueness and numerically. So, when any of those validations fail, how do I get access to them in my view, and how do I ascertain which of the many members it has failed on?

  I need help in trying to use curl to post data to a page and retrieve the results after the form has been submitted. All it does is echo back the form values. The curl that I have been using is this: $h = curl_init(); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_URL, "path/to/form.php"); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, array( 'name' = 'yes', 'comment' = 'no' )); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_HEADER, false); curl_setopt($h, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); $result = curl_exec($h); When I launch the page with the curl code in it, I get the form.php page contents but it doesn't not show the variables that PHP should have echo'd when the form is submitted. would appreciate any help with this. • SetMatrix() does not copy all values to HLSL

  Hi, I want to use the contents of a vector of D3DXMatrices to my shader. m_pLightMatrices->SetMatrixArray(&currentLightMatrices[0].m[0][0],0,numLights); As we know the internals of a vector this poses no problems (as it is just a dynamic array). Now when I access this matrix in hlsl to fill up a struct I get this strange behavior: struct LightTest { float3 LightPos; float LightRange; float4 LightDiffuse; float3 LightAtt; }; float4x4 currentLight = gLights[0]; LightTest lt; lt.LightPos = currentLight._m00_m01_m02; //{0,0,0} lt.LightDiffuse = currentLight[1].rgba; //{0,0,0,0} lt.LightRange = currentLight._m03; //this gives me a value lt.LightAtt = currentLight[2].xyz; //{0,0,0} While debugging I see that my matrix is nicely filled with the variables I want. When I try to hardcode check what is in the struct I get all zero's, except the LightRange. As you can see I tried different methods of accessing the float4x4 but without any other results. Why oh why is hlsl not copying all my variables ?

• Thread-Safe lazy instantiating using MEF

There are many threads iterating this loop and based on the key they are looking for, a lazy instance is created and returned. lazyObject should not be created more that one time. Although Lazy class is for doing so and despite of the used lock, under high threading I have more than one instance created (I track this with a Interlocked.Increment on a volatile static int and log it somewhere). The problem is I don't have access to definition of Lazy and MEF defines how the Lazy class create objects. I should notice the CompositionContainer has a thread-safe option in constructor which is already used. My questions: 1) Why the lock doesn't work ? 2) Should I use an array of locks instead of one lock for performance improvement ?
