• Extract two double Values from String using RegEx in Java

- by tzippy
I am reading a file by line and need to extract latitude and longitude from it. This how lines can looks: DE 83543 Rott am Inn Bayern BY Oberbayern Landkreis Rosenheim 47.983 12.1278 DE 21147 Hamburg Hamburg HH Kreisfreie Stadt Hamburg 53.55 10 What's for sure is, there are no dots surrounded by digits except for the ones representing the doubles. Unfortunately there are Values without a dot, so it's probably best to check for numbers from the end of the String. thanks for your help!

- by DaTval
Hello, I have a filter and parameters in web.xml web.xml is like this: <filter>

<display-name>AllClassFilter</display-name> <filter-name>AllClassFilter</filter-name> <filter-class>com.datval.homework.AllClassFilter</filter-class> <init-param> <param-name>DB_URL</param-name> <param-value>jdbc:derby:C:/Users/admin/workspace/homework03/homework/databases/StudentsDB;create=true</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>DB_DIALECT</param-name> <param-value>org.hibernate.dialect.DerbyDialect</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>DB_DRIVER</param-name> <param-value>org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver</param-value> </init-param> </filter> mapping is working well. But I can't get this parameters in my filter. public void init(FilterConfig config) throws ServletException { // TODO Auto-generated method stub debugMessage = config.getInitParameter("debugMessage"); ctx = config.getServletContext(); } public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException { // TODO Auto-generated method stub // place your code here ctx.log("Start - " + debugMessage); String myDbUrl = ctx.getInitParameter("DB_URL"); String DB_DIALECT = ctx.getInitParameter("DB_DIALECT"); String DB_DRIVER = ctx.getInitParameter("DB_DRIVER"); Map<String,String> pr = new HashMap<String,String>(); pr.put("hibernate.connection.url", myDbUrl); pr.put("hibernate.dialect", DB_DIALECT); pr.put("hibernate.connection.driver_class", DB_DRIVER); EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("students",pr); EntityManager em = emf.createEntityManager(); request.setAttribute("em", em); chain.doFilter(request, response); em.close(); ctx.log("end - " + debugMessage); } I have checked and myDbUrl is null. What I'm doing wrong? Any idea? Sorry about code, I will change it later :)

• Using java abstract class

- by user969131
In my UI project, I have few screens that share the same header style only the text is specific to the screens. What will be a good way to implement this? Have the super class create all the header component and open the components to the sub class, the sub class will access to component's setText method to update the text? or Have abstract method in super class to create the components, sub class will implement these methods to create the component. Hope it make sense..

• ActionListener isn't Implementing

- by Nick Gibson
JFrameWithPanel is not abstract and does not override abstract method actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent) in java.awt.event.ActionListener public class JFrameWithPanel extends JFrame implements ActionListener I Don't get this code. Book and Java site tells me this is the syntax for the method, but again this error shows up constantly. import javax.swing.*; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.lang.Math.*; import java.lang.Integer.*; import java.util.*; import java.util.Random; import java.io.*; import java.text.*; import java.text.DecimalFormat.*; public class JFrameWithPanel extends JFrame implements ActionListener { JButton button = new JButton("Exit"); public JFrameWithPanel() { super("JFrame with Panel"); JComboBox packageChoice = new JComboBox(); packageChoice.addItem("A+ Certification"); packageChoice.addItem("Network+ Certification "); packageChoice.addItem("Security+ Certifictation"); packageChoice.addItem("CIT Full Test Package"); packageChoice.addActionListener(this); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); JPanel pane = new JPanel(); pane.add(button); pane.add(packageChoice); setContentPane(pane); setSize(200,100); setVisible(true); } } then later public class CreateJFrameWithPanel { public static void main(String[] args) { JFrameWithPanel panel = new JFrameWithPanel(); } }

• Java, searching within a list of objects?

- by Rick
I'm a bit lost on the way to make this happen the fastest. I have a large list of objects that have basic variable attributes (with getters / setters) and I need to do a search in this list to find the objects within the list that match a given parameter I have found how to do a regular list search but I need to, for example search for the value of the result of doing a call getName() for each object in the list and get objects that have a result that matches my input. Something like below where the third argument is the result of the method call and the second is what I am trying to find. int index = Collections.binarySearch(myList, "value", getName()); Any advice is appreciated

• Java Custom exception throw behaves differently between different Projects

- by Pablo
I am attempting to call the following in my code: public void checkParticleLightRestriction(Particle parent) throws LightException { if ( parent == null ) { throw new LightException("quantum-particle-restrict.23", this); } In one Project the exception is thrown and the effect is similar to calling "return" whereby I am returned back to the point immediately succeeding where this method was called. However in another Project I get thrown completed out of the current package and to a point way prior to the point preceeding this method. It likes instead of being kicked out of a bar I am being deported all the way out of the country. My option are the wrap the throw in a try / catch but I am wondering why this difference in behaviour beween the 2 projects ?

• How to launch Google Chrome Application Shortcuts in Linux?

- by Michael Rose
I've got Chrome running on my Linux netbook, it's great and, unlike the Mac version, the 'Create Application Shortcut' option isn't greyed out. So I created one for Gmail. The 'applications' get stored at ~/.local/share/applications but I haven't managed to launch it yet. If I use Chrome in terminal $ google-chrome ~/.local/share/applications/google-application-reallylong-randomname.thing It opens the file in a new tab in Chrome and helpfully downloads it for me! Anyone got application shortcuts working in Linux?

• Get n Number of words using regex in Java

- by Aymon Fournier
I have a section of a book, complete with punctuation, line breaks etc. and I want to be able to extract the first n words from the text, and divide that into 5 parts. Regex mystifies me. This is what I am trying. I creates an array of index size 0, with all the input text: public static String getNumberWords2(String s, int nWords){ String[] m = s.split("([a-zA-Z_0-9]+\b.*?)", (nWords / 5)); return "Part One: \n" + m[1] + "\n\n" + "Part Two: \n" + m[2] + "\n\n" + "Part Three: \n" + m[3] + "\n\n" + "Part Four: \n" + m[4] + "\n\n" + "Part Five: \n" + m[5]; } Thanks!

• High performance distributed asynchronous RPC in java

- by unludo
I would like to do RPC to a list of clients with the following requirements: the server does not know the clients (implies a kind of broker?) and the cleints do not know the server there may be several clients - they share the load to treat the RPC The RPC is asynchronous very fast (round-trip < 1ms) optional : offers a fail-over mechanism. It can be done with underlying tools which are not really intended for that (Hazelcast is an example). What would you use for such requirements? Thanks!

• Elements of a Java Object Array are created but without correct names

- by Greenhouse Gases
Hi all Im having rather an annoying problem. I have a class called Person and a class called Event which serve to create objects to be used for competitors that compete in a certain event. When I add a competitor thats fine and the GUI list updates accordingly, however when I add an event the element in the array does not take on the value of the instance variable name in the class Event and so the GUI does not show the event name, though it is being added in the array correctly. How can I make it so that the event object in each element of the listOfEvents array (which is an array of event objects) has the name of the event. I should add this is for university though this isnt the part for which we will be assessed, it is somethign i have come across and due to not being able to see the code for the GUI, I've hit the proverbial brick wall. I wont include the whole load of code Ive been writing but hopefully my description and snippets below will suffice. Any advice I would appreciate greatly. No doubt I have overlooked something simple! Many thanks. listOfEvents is declared as: Event[] listOfEvents = new Event[20]; A snippet from the Event class: public class Event { String name; Person[] participants = new Person[10]; // array of competitors for the event public Event(String name) { this.name = name; } } and its use in the addEvent method (p is a global variable): public void addEvent(String eventName) { listOfEvents[p] = new Event(eventName); p++; }

• Java blocking socket returning incomplete ByteBuffer

- by evandro-carrenho
I have a socketChannel configured as blocking, but when reading byte buffers of 5K from this socket, I get an incomplete buffer sometimes. ByteBuffer messageBody = ByteBuffer.allocate(5*1024); messageBody.mark(); messageBody.order(ByteOrder.BIG_ENDIAN); int msgByteCount = channel.read(messageBody); Ocasionally, messageBody is not completely filled and channel.read() does not return -1 or an exception, but the actual number of bytes read (which is less than 5k). Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

• Method-Object pairs in Java

- by John Manak
I'd like to create a list of method-object pairs. Each method is a function returning a boolean. Then: foreach(pair) { if method evaluates to true { do something with the object } } One way of modelling this that I can think of is to have a class Constraint with a method isValid() and for each constraint produce an anonymous class (overriding the isValid() method). I feel like there could be a nicer way. Can you think of any?

• Need a Java based interruptible timer thread

- by LambeauLeap
I have a Main Program which is running a script on the target device(smart phone) and in a while loop waiting for stdout messages. However in this particular case, some of the heartbeat messages on the stdout could be spaced almost 45secs to a 1minute apart. something like: stream = device.runProgram(RESTORE_LOGS, new String[] {}); stream.flush(); String line = stream.readLine(); while (line.compareTo("") != 0) { reporter.commentOnJob(jobId, line); line = stream.readLine(); } So, I want to be a able to start a new interruptible thread after reading line from stdout with a required a sleep window. Upon being able to read a new line, I want to be able to interrupt/stop(having trouble killing the process), handle the newline of stdout text and restart a process. And it the event I am not able to read a line within the timer window(say 45secs) I want to a way to get out of my while loop either. I already tried the thread.run, thread.interrupt approach. But having trouble killing and starting a new thread. Is this the best way out or am I missing something obvious?

• JAVA: XML parsers gives null element

- by Johan
When I try to parse a XML-file, it gives sometimes a null element by the title. I think it has to do with HTML-tags ' How can I solve this problem? I have the follow XML-file:

' Nieuwe DVD '

tekst, tekst tekst

And the follow code to parse the xml-file: //DocumentBuilderFactory, DocumentBuilder are used for //xml parsing DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory .newInstance(); DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); //using db (Document Builder) parse xml data and assign //it to Element Document document = db.parse(is); Element element = document.getDocumentElement(); //take rss nodes to NodeList element.normalize(); NodeList nodeList = element.getElementsByTagName("item"); if (nodeList.getLength() > 0) { for (int i = 0; i < nodeList.getLength(); i++) { //take each entry (corresponds to

tags in //xml data Element entry = (Element) nodeList.item(i); entry.normalize(); Element _titleE = (Element) entry.getElementsByTagName( "title").item(0); Element _categoryE = (Element) entry .getElementsByTagName("category").item(0); Element _pubDateE = (Element) entry .getElementsByTagName("pubDate").item(0); Element _linkE = (Element) entry.getElementsByTagName( "link").item(0); String _title = _titleE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue(); String _category = _categoryE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue(); Date _pubDate = new Date(_pubDateE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue()); String _link = _linkE.getFirstChild().getNodeValue(); //create RssItemObject and add it to the ArrayList RssItem rssItem = new RssItem(_title, _category, _pubDate, _link); rssItems.add(rssItem); conn.disconnect(); }

• Java - problems with polymorphism

- by cc0
I have a book class, then a novel- and a science book class that extend the book class. I made an ArrayList using the book class, then inserted the novels and the science books into that. Now I'm trying to iterate through the ArrayList to count how many novels are there. How can I tell? Would love to see some examples of this! I've been at it for a while.
