  • R: how to make a unique set of names from a vector of strings?

    - by Mike Dewar
    Hi, I have a vector of strings. Check out my vector, it's awesome: > awesome [1] "a" "b" "c" "d" "d" "e" "f" "f" I'd like to make a new vector that is the same length as awesome but where, if necessary, the strings have been uniqueified. For example, a valid output of my desired function would be > awesome.uniqueified [1] "a" "b" "c" "d.1" "d.2" "e" "f.1" "f.2" Is there an easy, R-thonic and beautiful way to do this? I should say my list in real life (it's not called awesome) contains 25000ish mircoarray probeset identifiers. I'm always nervous when I embark on writing little generic functions (which I'm sure I could do) as I'm sure some R guru has come across this problem in the past, nailed it with some incredible algorithm that doesn't even have to store more than half an element in the vector. I'm just not sure what they might have called it. Probably not uniqueify.

  • How to change TextView background color when touching in and out of view?

    - by MikeShiny
    This has to be a very simple fix, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have got my program to change the background color to change onClick, and onTouch with ACTION_DOWN and ACTION_UP. But I need it to change the color when touching the screen and going in and out of the TextView. I need it to function like a mouseOver/mouseOut event. Is there a way to do this on android? Or am I stuck with onTouch, where the action has to start from within the TextView? Right now I set the onTouch Listener on the textview itself. Should I set it somewhere else and then check if the x and y are within the Textview? Or is there another event listener I should be using? I am new to Android, any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Mike

    - by Jan Darren Noroña
    I am making a random character generator, i have 2 forms, form1 and form2, on my form2 i have the checkboxes there, so if the user checked checkbox1, on my form1 it will only display 1 character, now if the user check all 5 checkboxes, my form1 will generate 5 characters. i have a button on form1 that will trigger an event on generating random characters. characters: '+','-','*','/','%' how will my code be? I am using WINDOWS FORMS APPLICATION. pics here: form1: http://i49.tinypic.com/30bzos8.png form2: http://i50.tinypic.com/k00ndt.png char[] select = new char[] { '+' , '-' , '*' , '/', '%' }; var rand = new Random(); char num = select[rand.Next(5)];

  • Unsigneds in order to prevent negative numbers

    - by Bruno Brant
    let's rope I can make this non-sujective Here's the thing: Sometimes, on fixed-typed languages, I restrict input on methods and functions to positive numbers by using the unsigned types, like unsigned int or unsigned double, etc. Most libraries, however, doesn't seem to think that way. Take C# string.Length. It's a integer, even though it can never be negative. Same goes for C/C++: sqrt input is an int or a double. I know there are reasons for this ... for example your argument might be read from a file and (no idea why) you may prefer to send the value directly to the function and check for errors latter (or use a try-catch block). So, I'm assuming that libraries are way better designed than my own code. So what are the reasons against using unsigned numbers to represent positive numbers? It's because of overflow when we cast then back to signed types?

  • [js] how combine to functions on submit?

    - by Mahmoud
    hey there, as you can see, i have to functions first to check if all forms are not empty and the second function is to verify the captcher, when i combine them together both work at the same time, i want to first to verify the first function, when that function returns true then the other function starts, here is the code that i used on form <form action="reg.php" method="post" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded" onsubmit=" Checking(this); return jcap();" > As you can see both function execute at the same time so i tried this <form action="reg.php" method="post" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded" onsubmit=" if(Checking(this) == true ){ return jcap();}" > is bypass both

  • ajax Post data missing with tinyMCE on Firefox

    - by Freeman
    I have a problem with my form when I try to submit with ajax. I am using Malsup Form plugin for Jquery but also using tinyMCE editor. When I submit the form and check the $_POST array, there is no data from the textarea. I have tried to use the triggerSave() function but to no avail. Everything is working well in IE. // These options are common and will be used for many form submissions var options = { target: '#notice', // target element(s) to be updated with server response dataType:'html', resetForm:true, beforeSubmit: function(){tinyMCE.triggerSave(false,true); }, success:function(msg){ $('#notice').html( msg) refresh(3) } }; //prepare form $('#savetext').ajaxForm(options);

  • What do you do with GitHub repositories you no longer maintain?

    - by T. Stone
    What do you do with GitHub repositories you no longer maintain? For whatever reason a project is started with a GitHub repository and then sometime later it's abandoned Perhaps it was an experiment that didn't work out. Perhaps you replaced it with a commercial product. Or perhaps you found a similar project to what you were doing and joined their efforts instead. In the time your repository was alive, it attracted watchers and a few forks. What do you do with it at that point? Is there a way to nicely indicate that repository is no longer maintained and to either check out the forks or a different project?

  • How to warn for the use of unset variables in a korn shell script

    - by Lepu
    Is there any way to throw errors or warnings in a korn shell script to prevent the use of unset variables ? Let's assume I have a temporary folder that I want to remove. TEMP_FILES_DIR='/app/myapp/tmp' rm -Rf $TEMP_FILE_DIR #notice the misspelling How to prevent this kind of mistakes before they actually happen? I know the script should check for file existence and empty string before attempting to remove, this is just a silly example to illustrate a mistake that could have been avoided with some warnings. I don't know if this feature exists in ksh. If it does exist, how do you turn it on?

  • Bug in Programming Interviews Exposed?

    - by Sam
    Hi, I could not find an errata for the 2nd edition of this book. My question concerns the if-statement in the following piece of code. void removeHead (Node ** head) { Node * temp; if (!(*head)) { temp = (*head)->next; delete *head; *head = temp; } } So I understand that the point of the if-statement is to check if the Node is null. However by adding an additional "!" to the evaluation, wouldn't this negate the false value of null? Would it be correct to change it to something like: if (*head) { ... } Also if anyone knows where I can find an official errata for the 2nd edition that would be great. Thanks, Sam

  • Two parallel line segments intersection

    - by Judarkness
    I know there are many algorithms to verify whether two line segments are intersected. But once they encountered parallel condition, they just tell the user a big "No" and pretend there is no overlap, share end point, or end point collusion. I know I can can calculate the distance between 2 lines segments. If the distance is 0, check the end points located in the other line segments or not. And this means I have to use a lot of if else and && || conditions. This is not difficult, but my question is "Is there a trick( or mathematics) method to calculate this special parallel case?"

Does it mean that jvm is not setup on the box? How can I check if the jvm is enabled or not? I am running it on Oracle 10g in UNIX environment. Any help with the issue is greatly appreciated.

  • Reuse C++ Header files

    - by Amrish
    Guys, I have a Visual C++ solution with 2 projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB and both share a common header file RunAlgo.h with the class declaration. Each project in the solution has its own unique implementation for the header file. I am trying to compile a DLL out of the common header file RunAlgo.h and add reference to this DLL in the projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB. I have then included separate RunAlgo.cpp definition file in both my projects. The problem is that I am getting linker errors while compiling the new DLL project which has only the header file. So, the question is Can a header file with only class declaration be compiled into a DLL (Similar to class library containing an Interface in C#)? For the above scenario, is there a better approach to reuse the common Header file among projects? Should the above method work (re-check my code?)

  • How do you convert date taken from a bash script to milliseconds in java program?

    - by Matt Pascoe
    I am writing a piece of code in java that needs to take a time sent from a bash script and parse the time to milliseconds. When I check the millisecond conversion on the date everything is correct except for the month I have sent which is January instead of March. Here is the variable I create in the bash script, which later in the script I pass to the java program: TIME=`date +%m%d%Y_%H:%M:%S` Here is the java code which parses the time to milliseconds: String dt = "${scriptstart}"; java.text.SimpleDateFormat scriptStart = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MMDDyyyy_HH:mm:ss"); long start = scriptStart.parse(dt).getTime(); The goal of this statement is to find the elapsed time between the start of the script and the current system time. To troubleshoot this I printed out the two: System Time = 1269898069496 (converted = Mon Mar 29 2010 16:27:49 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)) Script Start = 03292010_16:27:45 Script Start in Milli = 1264804065000 (Converted = Fri Jan 29 2010 16:27:45 GMT-0600 (Central Standard Time))

  • Illegal offset type

    - by BFTrick
    Hello, I am having trouble uploading a file through php. I check the file type at the beginning of the process and I get an error. This is the error I am getting: Warning: Illegal offset type in /balblabla/DBfunctions.inc.php on line 183 This is the printed out $_FILES var Array ( [Picture] = Array ( [name] = JPG.jpg [type] = image/jpeg [tmp_name] = /tmp/phpHlrNY8 [error] = 0 [size] = 192221 ) ) Here is the segment of code I am using that is giving me issues: function checkFile($file, $type) { if( in_array($_FILES[$file]['type'], $type) ){ // <--- LINE 183 return true; }//if return false; } // end checkFile() This is the line of code that calls the function if( checkFile( $_FILES['Picture'], array("image/jpeg") ) == true ){ //do stuff }// end if I have used this piece of code on dozens of websites on my own server so i am guessing that this is some different configuration option. How can i modify my code so that it works on this different server?

But when i try this function: function do_it_cookie() { // Check if cookie exists if (isset($_COOKIE['ref'])) { // It dose exist, do nothing or anything... } else { setcookie ('ref', $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'], time() + 60, '/'); header ("Location: http://www.nyttforetag.com/mind-your-own-business/"); } } I want to store the cookie on the user computer for 30 days, if the return i want to know the initial refereeing url. But when i use this and lets say i go to another page in my site and then go back to the homepage its sets a new cookie with the exact same name and with the ref of the previous page. • How can I know whether my C++ string variable is a number or not

    - by user342580
    I have a string of class string string str; how can I check if it is a number or not, str can only have 3 possible types described below like abcd or a number like 123.4 or a number with a parenthesis attach to the end it for example 456) note the parenthesis at the end of "str" is the only possible combination of number and none number where the bottom two are considered valid numbers, I know I could use lexical_cast if only the first 2 cases occur, but how about considering all 3 possible cases to occur? I don't need to do anything fancy with str, I just need to know whether it is a valid number as I described

  • How do I restrict the WCF service called by an ASP.NET AJAX page to only allow calls for that page?

    - by NovaJoe
    I have an AjaxControlToolkit DynamicPopulate control that is updated by calls to a WCF service. I know I can check the HttpContext in the service request to see if a user of the page (and thus, the control) is authenticated. However, I don't want anyone clever to be able to call the service directly, even if they're logged in. I want access to the service to be allowed ONLY to requests that are made from the page. Mainly, I don't want anyone to be able to programatically make a large number of calls and then reverse-engineer the algorithm that sits behind the service. Any clever ideas on how this can be done? Maybe I'm over-thinking this? Thanks in advance.

  • Setting many key/value pairs

    - by Andrew
    Hi, I'm working on a rake task which imports from a JSON feed into an ActiveRecord called Person. Person has quite a few attributes and rather than write lines of code for setting each attribute I'm trying different methods. The closest I've got is shown below. This works nicely as far as outputing to screen but when I check the values have actually been set on the ActiveRecord itself it's always nil. So it looks like I can't use .to_sym to solve my problem? Any suggestions? I should also mention that I'm just starting out with Ruby, have been doing quite a bit of Objective-c and now need to embrace the Interwebs :) http = Net::HTTP.new(url.host, url.port) http.read_timeout = 30 json = http.get(url.to_s).body parsed = JSON.parse(json) if parsed.has_key? 'code' updatePerson = Person.find_or_initialize_by_code(parsed['code']) puts updatePerson.code parsed.each do |key, value| puts "#{key} is #{value}" symkey = key.to_sym updatePerson[:symkey] = value.to_s updatePerson.save puts "#{key}....." # shows the current key puts updatePerson[:symkey] # shows the correct value puts updatePerson.first_name # a sample key, it's returning nil end

  • Is this bad style of programming(C#) ?

    - by m0s
    Hi, so in my program I have parts where I use try catch blocks like this try { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(someString); //I don't know if that directory exists //I don't know if that string is valid path string... it could be anything //Some operations here } catch(Exception iDontCareWhyItFailed) { //Didn't work? great... we will say: somethings wrong, try again/next one } Of course I probably could do checks to see if the string is valid path (regex), then I would check if directory exists, then I could catch various exceptions to see why my routine failed and give more info... But in my program it's not really necessary. Now I just really need to know if this is acceptable, and what would a pro say/think about that. Thanks a lot for attention.

  • Is foreign key reference from two different primary key from two different tables valid?

    - by arundex
    I have a foreign key that has to refer primary keys of two different tables. Table 1: animal animal_ id (primary key) Table 2: bird bird_ id (primary key) Table 3: Pet_info pet_id, type ENUM ('bird', 'animal') foreign key (pet_ id) references animal(animal_id), bird(bird_id) So, I need to check for pet_id either from animal or bird table depending on the need. Is this valid? Or should I go for some restructuring . . . NOTE: I referred this . . but I'm not sure whether I have to change my existing design
