  • Why there are no semicolons and {} blocks in some languages

    - by Incognito
    I know the question has no practical value, but it is interesting why in some languages semicolons and {} blocks are removed although their predecessor have them. Actually it makes me nervous to write a code in Python as there are no ";" and {}. Also in new language Google-GO semicolons are also missing although it says that lexer uses a rule to insert semicolons automatically as it scans. So is there any secret :) reason for this.

  • Processing JSON data with jQuery - strange results needing alert()

    - by James
    I have this code below. I randomly ran across that it will work if I have that alert message exactly where it is. If I take it out or move it to any other spot the tabs will not appear. What exactly is that alert doing that allows the code to work and how can I make it work without the alert? If I move the each loop into the success section it does not work even with the alert. $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "../ajax.php", data: "action=tabs", dataType: "json", success: function(data){ Projects = data; } }); alert("yes"); $.each(Projects, function(i){ /* Sequentially creating the tabs and assigning a color from the array: */ var tmp = $('<li><a href="#" class="tab green">'+Projects[i].name+'<span class="left" /><span class="right" /></a></li>'); /* Setting the page data for each hyperlink: */ tmp.find('a').data('page','../ajax.php?action=lists&projectID='+Projects[i].project_id); /* Adding the tab to the UL container: */ $('ul.tabContainer').append(tmp); }); The ajax code is retuning json with this code $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `projects` ORDER BY `position` ASC"); $projects = array(); // Filling the $projects array with new project objects: while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query)){ $projects[] = $row; } echo json_encode($projects); The returning data is very small and very fast so I don't think that is the problem.

  • How do I copy a version of a single file from one git branch to another?

    - by madlep
    I've got two branches that are fully merged together. However, after the merge is done, I realise that one file has been messed up by the merge (someone else did an auto-format, gah), and it would just be easier to change to the new version in the other branch, and then re-insert my one line change after bringing it over into my branch. So what's the easiest way in git to do this?

  • multiple figure in latex with captions.

    - by asd
    Hi, How can I insert multiple figures each of them has a caption and label, without using minipage. I wrote this code, but just there is one caption :( \begin{figure}[htp] \centering \label{figur}\caption{equation...} \begin{tabular}{cc} % Requires \usepackage{graphicx} \includegraphics[width=60mm]{explicit3185.eps}& \includegraphics[width=60mm]{explicit3183.eps}\\ \includegraphics[width=60mm]{explicit1501.eps}& \includegraphics[width=60mm]{explicit23185.eps}\\ \includegraphics[width=60mm]{explicit23183.eps}& \includegraphics[width=60mm]{explicit21501.eps}\\ \end{tabular} \end{figure}

  • Strange PHP array behavior overwriting values with all the same values

    - by dasdas
    Im doing a simple mysqli query with code ive used many times before but have never had this problem happen to me. I am grabbing an entire table with an unknown number of columns (it changes often so i dont know the exact value, nor the column names). I have some code that uses metadata to grab everything and stick it in an array. This all works fine, but the output is messed up: $stmt -> execute(); //the query is legit, no problems there $meta = $stmt->result_metadata(); while ($field = $meta->fetch_field()) { $params[] = &$row[$field->name]; } call_user_func_array(array($stmt, 'bind_result'), $params); while ($stmt->fetch()) { $pvalues[++$i] = $row; //$pvalues is an array of arrays. row is an array //print_r($row); print_r($pvalues[$i-1]); } $stmt -> close(); I would assume that $pvalues has the results that I am looking for. My table currently has 2 rows. $pvalues has array length 2. Both rows in $pvalues are exactly the same. If i use the: print_r($row) it prints out the correct values for both rows, but if later on i check what is in $pvalues it is incorrect (1 row is assigned to both indices of $pvalues). If i use the print_r($pvalues[$i-1]) it prints exactly as I expect, the same row in the table twice. Why isnt the data getting assigned to $pvalues? I know $row holds the right information at one point, but it is getting overwritten or lost.

  • Is it possible to submit data into a SQL database, wait for that to finish, and then return the ID g

    - by user322478
    I have an ASP form that needs to submit data to two different systems. First the data needs to go into an MS SQL database, which will get an ID. I then need to submit all that form data to an external system, along with that ID. Pretty much everything in the code works just fine, the data goes into the database, and the data will go to the external system. The problem is I am not getting my ID back from SQL when I execute that query. I am under the impression this is happening because of how fast everything occurs in the code. The database is adding it's row at the same time my post page runs it's query to get the ID back, I think. I need to know of a way to wait until SQL finished the insert or wait for a specific amount of time maybe. I already tried using the hacks to "sleep" with ASP, that did not help. I am sure I could accomplish this in .Net, my background is more .Net than ASP, but this is what I have to work with on my current project. Any ideas?

  • Why does string::find return size_type and not an iterator?

    - by dehmann
    In C++, why does string::find return size_type and not an iterator? It would make sense because functions like string::replace or string::insert take iterators as input, so you could find some character and immediately pass the returned iterator to replace, etc. Also, std::find returns an iterator -- why is std::string::find different?

  • Need help with map (c++, STL)

    - by Mike Dooley
    Hi folks! Actually I'm new to C++. I tried something out (actually the map container) but it doesn't work the way I assumed it will... Before posting my code, I will explain it shortly. I created 3 classes: ClassA ClassDerivedA ClassAnotherDerivedA The two last ones are derived from "ClassA". Further I created a map: map<string,ClassA> test_map; I put some objects (from Type ClassDerivedA and ClassAnotherDerivedA) into the map. Keep in mind: the mapped value is from type "ClassA". This will only work because of Polymorphism. Finally I created an iterator which runs over my map and compares the user input with my keys in the map. If they match, it will call a specific method called "printOutput". And there is the Problem: Although i declared "printOutput" as "virtual" the only method called is the one from my base class, but why? and here is the code: #include <iostream> #include <map> using namespace std; class ClassA { public: virtual void printOutput() { cout << "ClassA" << endl; } }; class ClassDerivedA : public ClassA { public: void printOutput() { cout << "ClassDerivedA" << endl; } }; class ClassAnotherDerivedA: public ClassA { public: void printOutput() { cout << "ClassAnotherDerivedA" << endl; } }; int main() { ClassDerivedA class_derived_a; ClassAnotherDerivedA class_another_a; map<string,ClassA> test_map; test_map.insert(pair<string,ClassA>("deriveda", class_derived_a)); test_map.insert(pair<string,ClassA>("anothera", class_another_a)); string s; while( cin >> s ) { if( s != "quit" ) { map<string,ClassA>::iterator it = test_map.find(s); if(it != test_map.end()) it->second.printOutput(); } else break; } } Blockquote

  • How can I add dynamic text from a different table where primary key is a foreign key to adynamic table being shown?

    - by Jethro Tamares Doble
    I have here a dynamic table named tb_user with column region_id and institute_id and both ids are primary key of another table tb_region (with column region_name and region_id) and tb_institute (column institute_id and institute_name). I wanted to see region_name and institute_name instead of the ids. I've used this php script <?php echo $row_institute['institution_name']; ?> and query to collect data for tb_institute mysql_select_db($database_connection_ched, $connection_ched); $query_institution = "SELECT institute_id, institute_name FROM tb_institute"; $institution = mysql_query($query_institution, $connection_ched) or die(mysql_error()); $row_institution = mysql_fetch_assoc($institution); $totalRows_institution = mysql_num_rows($institution); but it seems not to display the correct name of id. query i used to collect data: mysql_select_db($database_connection_ched, $connection_ched); $query_notification = sprintf("SELECT * FROM tb_user WHERE status = 'inactive' ORDER BY date_register ASC", GetSQLValueString($colname_notification, "text")); $query_limit_notification = sprintf("%s LIMIT %d, %d", $query_notification, $startRow_notification, $maxRows_notification); $notification = mysql_query($query_limit_notification, $connection_ched) or die(mysql_error()); $row_notification = mysql_fetch_assoc($notification); if (isset($_GET['totalRows_notification'])) { $totalRows_notification = $_GET['totalRows_notification']; } else { $all_notification = mysql_query($query_notification); $totalRows_notification = mysql_num_rows($all_notification); } $totalPages_notification = ceil($totalRows_notification/$maxRows_notification)-1;

  • Make var_dump look pretty

    - by tPlummer
    I have a simple $_GET[] query var set for showing testing data when pulling down queries from the DB. <?php if($_GET['test']): ?> <div id="test" style="padding: 24px; background: #fff; text-align: center;"> <table> <tr style="font-weight: bold;"><td>MLS</td></tr> <tr><td><?php echo KEY; ?></td></tr> <tr style="font-weight: bold;"><td>QUERY</td></tr> <tr><td><?php echo $data_q; ?></td></tr> <tr style="font-weight: bold;"><td>DATA</td></tr> <tr><td><?php var_dump($data); ?></td></tr> </table> </div> <?php endif; ?> When I do var_dump, as expected it's this big array string that is all smushed together. Is there a way to add in line breaks at least for this or display the var_dump in a way that's more readable? I'm open to jQuery suggestions on manipulating the string after it's posted.

I have an application which uses Hibernate Search so I can use index() in FullTextEntityManager instance to index an object. I'd like to recover back the created index and insert it into a MemoryIndex instance to execute several queries over it. Is it possible? Thanks.

  • does @@identity return the primary key or identity field?

    - by elspiko
    Hi, My issue is that I've got update triggers on an SQL View (MS SQL 2005) which I'm mapping to LINQ to SQL entities in C#... My SQL looks correct but it complains about trying to insert a null value into a secondary table PK field. I believe my issue relates to having the primary key and identity as seperate fields in the primary table. So my question is this....when using @@identity, does it look at the primary key of the inserted row, or does it look at the field with "IDENTITY" specified???
