  • Building Outline Data in Google Maps (Android)

    I'm working on an Android project that focuses on knowing how close you are to buildings. I wanted to know if there is some way to extract the geographic information about the outlines of buildings out of the Google Maps API. Thanks.     My web application deals with strings that need to be converted to numbers alot - users often put commas, currency symbols etc. in these fields so what I want to do is create a string extension method that cleans the field up and converts it to a decimal.   • TextBox change is not saved to DataTable

    I'm having trouble with a simple table edit in a Winform application. I must have missed a step. I have a DataSet containing a DataTable connected to a database with a SqlDataAdapter. There is a SqlCommandBuilder on the SqlDataAdapter. On the form, there are TextBoxes which are bound to the DataTable. The binding was done in the Designer and it machine-produced statements like this: this.tbLast.DataBindings.Add(new System.Windows.Forms.Binding("Text", this.belkData, "belk_mem.last", true)); When I fill the row in the DataTable, the values from the database appear in the textboxes, but when I change contents of the TextBox, the changes are apparently not being going to the DataTable. When I try to save change both of the following return null: DataTable dtChanges = dtMem.GetChanges(); DataSet dsChanges = belkData.GetChanges(); What did I forget?   • Free service that allows storing game data online?

    I have created a small game in Java and I would like to add the ability for a player to publish his highscores online. I'm willing to write the server software myself (it's easy these days with Ruby Mongrel, or even C++). All I just need to have some sort hosting. One solution that immediately comes to mind is Amazon EC2. But that's kind of expensive for my needs. Since the requirements are very minimal (I don't even need a website, just a web service) I think there may be a cheaper solution out there. Does anyone know of a free or cheap provider for this kind of thing?

    I have a program that has items with 3 attributes. Name(String) : Count(String) : Amount(String) Currently I am writing the database when someone is trying to access a section then reading from the database. The writing is taking too long. So my question is how can I perhaps create a nested array where I can say if name = carrot then print carrot['count'] and carrot['amount']. I am very new to Java so some sample code would be great. Or any other suggestions that you may have as far as tackling this issue.

    Using a three-tier architecture, I have a list of objects List<object> careerList = new List<object>(); ModuleDTO module = new ModuleDTO(); careerList = module.getDegreeCodeByQualification(qualificationCode); which I then add to a gridview like so: gridViewMaster.DataSource = careerList; gridViewMaster.DataBind(); What I'd like to do is then enable paging on the gridview.     I need a way to store an int for N columns. Basically what I have is this: Armies: ArmyID - UINT UnitCount1 - UINT UnitCount2 - UINT UnitCount3 - UINT UnitCount4 - UINT ... I can't possible add a column for each and every unit, so I need a fast way to store the number of each units in an army (you might have guesses it's for a game by now). Using XML is not an option as it will be dead slow.

  • Caching vector addition over changing collections

    I have the following setup: I have a largish number of uuids (currently about 10k but expected to grow unboundedly - they're user IDs) and a function f : id - sparse vector with 32-bit integer values (no need to worry about precision). The function is reasonably expensive (not outrageously so, but probably on the order of a few 100ms for a given id). The dimension of the sparse vectors should be assumed to be infinite, as new dimensions can appear over time, but in practice is unlikely to ever exceed about 20k (and individual results of f are unlikely to have more than a few hundred non-zero values). I want to support the following operations efficiently: add a new ID to the collection invalidate an existing ID retrieve sum f(id) in O(changes since last retrieval) i.e. I want to cache the sum of the vectors in a way that's reasonable to do incrementally. One option would be to support a remove ID operation and treat invalidation as a remove followed by an add. The problem with this is that it requires us to keep track of all the old values of f, which is expensive in space. I potentially need to use many instances of this sort of cached structure, so I would like to avoid that. The likely usage pattern is that new IDs are added at a fairly continuous rate and are frequently invalidated at first. Ids which have been invalidated recently are much more likely to be invalidated again than ones which have remained valid for a long time, but in principle an old Id can still be invalidated. Ideally I don't want to do this in memory (or at least I want a way that lets me save the result to disk efficiently), so an idea which lets me piggyback off an existing DB implementation of some sort would be especially appreciated.

  • [javascript] Populating jsTree based on XML data uploaded to server folder

    tl:dr How can I populate jsTree based on a folder location instead of an exact XML url? I'm looking for a little direction on this project. Currently I am trying to copy file structures of hard drives as XML files and recreate them using jsTree on the webserver for a completely independent version of the file structure. I have some python script that outputs XML files that are formed to jsTree and automatically uploads to a folder on the server. The problem is now I am a little lost because I have to manually enter each XML file into jsTree code for it to display so I have multiple entries like this: $("#tree1") .jstree({ "plugins" : [ "themes", "xml_data", "ui", "search", "types" ], "xml_data" : { "ajax" : { "url" : "./XML_DATA/DRIVE1.xml" }, "xsl" : "nest" }, I see in the documentation that instead of populated by the direct file the folders are populated by "server.php" but no where in the php code does it point to any directories or files. After considering the problem I thought of a few solutions and could use some advice on them: Should I be trying to write php code to automatically look through my XML_DATA folder to upload each XML file? Should I just upload all the XML to mySQL and populate my tree based on that? Should the javascript be the code looking through the server's folder for XML files? All the XML is formed the same way but the number of XML files on the server will increase and will have to be refreshed as well as they will be overwritten with changes. Any direction would be appreciated, thanks.

    I need to write a sproc which performs some INSERTs on a table, and compile a list of "statuses" for each row based on how well the INSERT went. Each row will be inserted within a loop, the loop iterates over a cursor that supplies some values for the INSERT statement. What I need to return is a resultset which looks like this: FIELDS_FROM_ROW_BEING_INSERTED.., STATUS VARCHAR2 The STATUS is determined by how the INSERT went. For instance, if the INSERT caused a DUP_VAL_ON_INDEX exception indicating there was a duplicate row, I'd set the STATUS to "Dupe". If all went well, I'd set it to "SUCCESS" and proceed to the next row. By the end of it all, I'd have a resultset of N rows, where N is the number of insert statements performed and each row contains some identifying info for the row being inserted, along with the "STATUS" of the insertion Since there is no table in my DB to store the values I'd like to pass back to the user, I'm wondering how I can return the info back? Temporary table? Seems in Oracle temporary tables are "global", not sure I would want a global table, are there any temporary tables that get dropped after a session is done?

    I'm new to MySQL and as a learning project I'd like to make a recipe database. I'd like to the user to be able to enter ingredients through a simple HTML form but I'm stuck in how to label the form so that I can enter several ingredients into the database at once. I'd like to do something like this: <form method="post" action="insert.php"> Ingredient 1: <input type="text" name="ingredient"><br /> Ingredient 2: <input type="text" name="ingredient"><br /> Ingredient 3: <input type="text" name="ingredient"><br /> <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form> When I do this, I add rows to the table but they're all empty. I know it's got something to do with me using "ingredient" (the table value where I want to add the ingredient name) several times in the form, but I just don't know how to solve it. I would absolutely love some input on how to make it work.

  • Screen orientation change forces data re-entry

    I'm developing a simple app, only a handful of activities and nothing to complicated. The issue I'm having is that in a few of my activities I have EditText widgets, and when the screen is rotated, these widgets loose their values. They still visually, that is, on the handset screen, report their values from before the rotation, but to the code report their default values. An example, I have an activity with an EditText, I enter a number, 15, the calculator starts calculating, displays a result. If at this point I rotate to a different orientation, as expected the activity dies, reloads, shows the new orientation, my value of 15 is still in the EditText, however the calculator (the code) calculates as if it was 0, which is the initial value. I have not tried changing the initial value to see if it is really pulling from the default value, or just setting itself to 0 when I cast it as an int. If I didn't explain this well enough, let me know, I can add source code if I need to. Thanks.
