  • Need help profiling .NET caching extension method.

    - by rockinthesixstring
    I've got the following extension Public Module CacheExtensions Sub New() End Sub Private sync As New Object() Public Const DefaultCacheExpiration As Integer = 1200 ''# 20 minutes <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal generator As Func(Of T)) As T Return cache.GetOrStore(key, If(generator IsNot Nothing, generator(), Nothing), DefaultCacheExpiration) End Function <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal generator As Func(Of T), ByVal expireInSeconds As Double) As T Return cache.GetOrStore(key, If(generator IsNot Nothing, generator(), Nothing), expireInSeconds) End Function <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal obj As T) As T Return cache.GetOrStore(key, obj, DefaultCacheExpiration) End Function <Extension()> Public Function GetOrStore(Of T)(ByVal cache As Cache, ByVal key As String, ByVal obj As T, ByVal expireInSeconds As Double) As T Dim result = cache(key) If result Is Nothing Then SyncLock sync If result Is Nothing Then result = If(obj IsNot Nothing, obj, Nothing) cache.Insert(key, result, Nothing, DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(expireInSeconds), cache.NoSlidingExpiration) End If End SyncLock End If Return DirectCast(result, T) End Function End Module From here, I'm using the extension is a TagService to get a list of tags Public Function GetTagNames() As List(Of String) Implements Domain.ITagService.GetTags ''# We're not using a dynamic Cache key because the list of TagNames ''# will persist across all users in all regions. Return HttpRuntime.Cache.GetOrStore(Of List(Of String))("TagNamesOnly", Function() _TagRepository.Read().Select(Function(t) t.Name).OrderBy(Function(t) t).ToList()) End Function All of this is pretty much straight forward except when I put a breakpoint on _TagRepository.Read(). The problem is that it is getting called on every request, when I thought that it is only to be called when Result Is Nothing Am I missing something here?

Bitmap bm1 = (Bitmap) (Image.FromFile(txtFile1.Text)); Bitmap bm2 = (Bitmap) (Image.FromFile(txtFile2.Text)); // Make a difference image. int wid = Math.Min(bm1.Width, bm2.Width); int hgt = Math.Min(bm1.Height, bm2.Height); Bitmap bm3 = new Bitmap(wid, hgt); // Create the difference image. bool are_identical = true; int r1; int g1; int b1; int r2; int g2; int b2; int r3; int g3; int b3; Color eq_color = Color.White; Color ne_color = Color.Transparent; for (int x = 0; x <= wid - 1; x++) { for (int y = 0; y <= hgt - 1; y++) { if (bm1.GetPixel(x, y).Equals(bm2.GetPixel(x, y))) { bm3.SetPixel(x, y, eq_color); } else { bm1.SetPixel(x, y, ne_color); are_identical = false; } } } // Display the result. picResult.Image = bm1; Bitmap Logo = new Bitmap(picResult.Image); Logo.MakeTransparent(Logo.GetPixel(1, 1)); picResult.Image = (Image)Logo; this.Cursor = Cursors.Default; if ((bm1.Width != bm2.Width) || (bm1.Height != bm2.Height)) { are_identical = false; } if (are_identical) { MessageBox.Show("The images are identical"); } else { MessageBox.Show("The images are different"); } //bm1.Dispose() // bm2.Dispose() }

  • Tracing all events in VB.NET

    - by MatsT
    I keep running into situations where I don't know what event I have to listen to in order to execute my code at the correct time. Is there any way to get a log of all events that is raised? Any way to filter that log based on what object raised the event? EDIT: Final solution: Private Sub WireAllEvents(ByVal obj As Object) Dim parameterTypes() As Type = {GetType(System.Object), GetType(System.EventArgs)} Dim Events = obj.GetType().GetEvents() For Each ev In Events Dim handler As New DynamicMethod("", Nothing, parameterTypes, GetType(main)) Dim ilgen As ILGenerator = handler.GetILGenerator() ilgen.EmitWriteLine("Event Name: " + ev.Name) ilgen.Emit(OpCodes.Ret) ev.AddEventHandler(obj, handler.CreateDelegate(ev.EventHandlerType)) Next End Sub And yes, I know this is not a good solution when you actually want to do real stuff that triggers off the events. There are good reasons for the 1 method - 1 event approach, but this is still useful when trying to figure out which of the methods you want to add your handlers to.

  • When implementing the ICallbackEventHandler in asp.net, in my c# function the RegularExpressionValid

    - by Mausimo
    Hello, As the question states, i have implemented my first ICallbackEventHandler. In my c# callback function i use: Page.Validate("ENewsLetter2"); if (Page.IsValid) { if (!RegularExpressionValidatorEmail.IsValid) { sInvalidMessage += "Invalid E-Mail address.\n"; } return sInvalidMessage; } everytime i check the RegularExpressionValidatorEmail, the value is = "". I do not know if this is since the iCallbackEventHandler is asynchronous, the validator has not talked to the server yet so the value will always show up blank? Is it impossible to do what i am trying to do by using a iCallbackEventHandler?

  • Asp.net Page and control Events

    - by andrewWinn
    I have looked all over the web and I can not find the information I am looking for and I was hoping that someone could give me a hand. Specifically, I am looking for a comprehensive list of what events occur in the page and control life cycles and what is "available" in each event. Like when can I get a dropdownlists selected value, when can i databind, when can I get at values in view state and what not. Can anyone point me to a comprehensive list for both page and control life cycles? Or even provide that information for me? Thanks in advance.

  • ASP.Net MVC TDD using Moq

    - by Nicholas Murray
    I am trying to learn TDD/BDD using NUnit and Moq. The design that I have been following passes a DataService class to my controller to provide access to repositories. I would like to Mock the DataService class to allow testing of the controllers. There are lots of examples of mocking a repository passed to the controller but I can't work out how to mock a DataService class in this scenerio. Could someone please explain how to implement this? Here's a sample of the relevant code: [Test] public void Can_View_A_Single_Page_Of_Lists() { var dataService = new Mock<DataService>(); var controller = new ListsController(dataService); ... } namespace Services { public class DataService { private readonly IKeyedRepository<int, FavList> FavListRepository; private readonly IUnitOfWork unitOfWork; public FavListService FavLists { get; private set; } public DataService(IKeyedRepository<int, FavList> FavListRepository, IUnitOfWork unitOfWork) { this.FavListRepository = FavListRepository; this.unitOfWork = unitOfWork; FavLists = new FavListService(FavListRepository); } public void Commit() { unitOfWork.Commit(); } } } namespace MyListsWebsite.Controllers { public class ListsController : Controller { private readonly DataService dataService; public ListsController(DataService dataService) { this.dataService = dataService; } public ActionResult Index() { var myLists = dataService.FavLists.All().ToList(); return View(myLists); } } }

  • asp.net Wizard control strange issue

    - by epitka
    Update: There was actually a hidden panel with validator in the user control that was causing page not to be valid on the first postback. Consider this issue resolved. This is first time I am using this control and it is behaving rather strange. I have to click on the "Next" button twice for it to move to the next step. I tried explicitly setting active index, using MoveTo etc. Nothing works. Here is the markup for the control. Anybody has any ideas why? <asp:Wizard ID="UserWizard" runat="server" ActiveStepIndex="0" StartNextButtonImageUrl = "~/App_Themes/Default/images/buttons/continue.gif" StartNextButtonType="Image" StepNextButtonType="Image" StepNextButtonImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Default/images/buttons/continue.gif" FinishPreviousButtonImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Default/images/buttons/back.gif" FinishPreviousButtonType="Image" FinishCompleteButtonImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Default/images/buttons/save.gif" FinishCompleteButtonType="Image" CancelButtonType="Image" CancelButtonImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Default/images/buttons/back.gif" DisplaySideBar="false" > <WizardSteps> <asp:WizardStep Title="User Profile" ID="UserProfile" runat="server"> <uhc:ctlUserProfileEdit ID="ctlUserProfileEdit" runat="server"> </uhc:ctlUserProfileEdit> <br clear="all" /> <div> <asp:ImageButton ID="cmdResetPassword" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Default/images/buttons/resetpassword.gif" /> </div> <div> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="upSchools" runat="server" ChildrenAsTriggers="true"> <ContentTemplate> <uhc:ctlSchoolLocationSelector ID="ctlSchoolLocationSelector" runat="server" /> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </div> </asp:WizardStep> <asp:WizardStep Title="Roles" ID="Roles" runat="server"> <uhc:ctlPermissionInternal ID="ctlPermissionInternal1" runat="server"></uhc:ctlPermissionInternal> <uhc:ctlPermissionExternal ID="ctlPermissionExternal1" runat="server"></uhc:ctlPermissionExternal> </asp:WizardStep> </WizardSteps> </asp:Wizard>

  • Best way to implement nested loops in a view in asp.net mvc 2

    - by Junior Ewing
    Hi, Trying to implement some nested loops that are spitting out good old nested html table data. So the question is; What is the best way to loop through lists and nested lists in order to produce easily maintainable code. It can get quite narly quite fast when working with multiple nested tables or lists. Should I make use of a HTML helper, or make something with the ViewModel to simplify this? A requirement is if there are no children at a node there should be an empty row on that spot with some links for creation and into other parts of the system.

  • How to bind a List<DateTime> to a DataGridView/ListBox .NET C#

    - by nat
    Hi there I have a List that I want to bind to a DataGridView in a windows forms app. however, I cannot for the life of me find the DataPropertyName I need to show what I want. I have had similar problems with binding this list to a listbox. what i really want is to show .ToString("dddd, dd MMMM yyyy HH:mm"), or certainly more than the standard 'date' part of the datetime - do i need to add a property of my own? public partial class DateTime{ public string myFormat{ get{return this.ToString("dddd dd MMM yyyy HH:mm");} } } or some such? thanks nat

  • ASP NET forms Authorization: how to reduce duration?

    - by eddo
    I've got a web page which is implementing cookie based ASPNET Forms Authentication. Once the user has logged in the page, he can edit some information using a form which is created using a partialview and returned to him as a dialog for editing. The action linked to the partial view is decorated as follows: [HttpGet] [OutputCache(Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] [Authorize(Roles = "test")] public ActionResult changeTripInfo(int tripID, bool ovride=false) { ... } The problem i am experiencing is the latency between the request and the time when the dialog is shown to the user: time ranges between 800 and 1100 ms which is not justified by the complexity of the form. Investigating with Glimpse turns out that the time to process the AuthorizeAttribute (see snip) sums up to at least 650 ms which is troubling me. Looking at the Sql server log, the call which checks the user roles takes, as expected, virtually nothing (duration 0). How can I reduce this time? Am I missing some optimization?

  • Handling row selection from a simple grid using jquery and asp.net mvc

    - by Jonn
    Using a simple table and jquery, how would you manually handle selection using jquery? So far, I've managed to add a gridrowselected class on the tr when the click event is called so that I'll know which row is currently selected. But I don't know how to pass the selected data back to the controller (or at least an index I placed on the row). I tried something like this $(function() { $('#ProjectList .gridrow').click(function() { // Get row's index var projectId = $(this).find('input[name$=ProjectId]').val(); // Remove the input if it already exists var parentForm = $(this).parents('form'); parentForm.remove('input[name="selectedRows"][value="' + projectId + '"]'); // If it is selected, create the form. If it's not selected then the input just gets removed (the user must have clicked on it and deselected the row) if ($(this).hasClass('gridrow-selected') === true) { parentForm.append($('<input>', { type: "hidden", name: "selectedRows", value: projectId })); } }); }); which I'm expecting to create a hidden input so that when I post, selectedRows gets passed onto the controller. But all it does is create the input, but the data still doesn't get passed to the controller.

  • Custom ASP.net UserControl List<T> Property, having trouble setting declaratively

    - by Chris McCall
    I'm developing a custom UserControl to inject JQuery hotkeys into a page declaratively on the server side. Here's the control (the important parts anyway): [AspNetHostingPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Level = AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.Minimal), AspNetHostingPermission(SecurityAction.InheritanceDemand, Level = AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.Minimal), DefaultProperty("HotKeys"), ParseChildren(true, "HotKeys"), ToolboxData("<{0}:HotKeysControl runat=\"server\"> </{0}:HotKeysControl>")] public partial class HotKeysControl : System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl { private string crlf = Environment.NewLine; public List<HotKey> _HotKeys; public HotKeysControl() { if (_HotKeys == null) { _HotKeys = new List<HotKey>(); } // if I uncomment this line, script is injected into the page // _HotKeys.Add(new HotKey("ctrl+r","thisControl")); } [ Category("Behavior"), Description("The hotkeys collection"), DesignerSerializationVisibility( DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content), Editor(typeof(HotKeyCollectionEditor), typeof(UITypeEditor)), PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerDefaultProperty) ] public List<HotKey> HotKeys { set { _HotKeys = value; } get { return _HotKeys; } } Here's the .aspx code: <%@ Register Assembly="MyCompany.ProductName.WebControls" Namespace="MyCompany.ProductName.WebControls" TagPrefix="uc" %> ... <uc:HotKeysControl ID="theHotkeys" runat="server" Visible="false"> <uc:HotKey ControlName="firstControl" KeyCode="ctrl+1" /> <uc:HotKey ControlName="thirdControl" KeyCode="ctrl+2" /> </uc:HotKeysControl> Nothing happens, as if no HotKeys objects are being added to the property collection. What Am I doing wrong? If I uncomment out the line above and "manually" add items, it works. It's something about how I'm declaratively adding hotkeys to the page. Any ideas?

  • .net printing multiple reports in one document (architecture question)

    - by LawsonM
    I understand how to print a single document via the PrintDocument class. However, I want to print multiple reports in one document. Each "report" will consist of charts, tables, etc. I want to have two reports per page. I've studied the few examples I can find on how to combine multiple documents into one; however, they always seem to work by creating a collection of objects (e.g. customer or order) that are then iterated over and drawn in the OnPrintPage method. My problem and hence the "architecture" question is that I don't want to cache the objects required to produce the report since they are very large and memory intensive. I'd simply like the resulting "report". One thought I had was to print the report to a metafile, cache that instead in a "MultiplePrintDocument" class and then position those images appropriately two to a page in the OnPrintPage method. I think this would be a lot more efficient and scalable in my case. But I'm not a professional programmer and can't figure out if I'm barking up the wrong tree here. I think the Graphics.BeginContainer and Graphics.Save methods might be relevant, but can't figure out how to implement or if there is a better way. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • how to add connection string for a windows form applicaton in asp.net

    - by manoj chalode
    i am working on windows form application and i want to add connection string of a database in. Right now, though i can access database i don't know the proper reasoning behind it. I have created a database and added it in a "Database" folder. The code for it is given below. i also want to know how can I make a connection string which can work on different PCs without changing it (I'm talking about relative path given in the "AttachDbFilename" attribute in the connection string). Reply... Conn = new SqlConnection(@"Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="+ Application.StartupPath + "\\Database\\Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True");

  • ASP.net MVC support for URL's with hyphens

    - by John
    Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

  • What are the effects of using VS2005 to migrate from .NET 1.1

    - by andy
    Hey guys, I'm working on some legacy code for a client, involving Microsoft Content Management System (MCMS). Currently, everything is local, the code, MCMS, SQLServer, and IIS (5.x). I copied the project folder, and then opened the new copied solution in VS2005, and let it do it's conversion thing. But now nothing works. I've nnotice there have been some changes to IIS profile. What are the extent of these changes...?? Also, my VS2003 fails to recognize the Web Project?? Anyone have any idea what's going on? cheers!

  • Session Timeout in VB.NET

    - by BornReady
    Hi, I have written a page with an iFrame that basically cycles through a series of internal pages on our server displaying daily activity for our company. The problem I think is that it sporadically loses its session and redirects back to the login screen to keep losing its session which is the default behavior for anyone on our site trying to access a webpage without being logged in. I have set the session timeout to 4hrs, the iframe cycles through 6 pages anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes on each, and I have even set the META refresh on the page to refresh every 3 hours. I don't understand what else could possibly stop this page from staying active. Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
