• Re-tweets and replies with JTwitter

  I have not used Twitter enough to become familiar with its terminology or the way it works, so please help me in understanding the problem I have at hand. I am getting last 20 status updates posted by some Twitter user via RSS feed, the feed XML is parsed and the statuses are displayed in a ListView. Which means that I have the original tweet in a String variable(row of ListView). When I click a ListView item, I get the option of "Re-tweeting" and "post reply". As, I understand it, when re-tweeting I will have to just update my *status* as: RT @orig-poster <original tweet> and when posting a reply I will have to just update my status as: @orig-poster <my tweet> I skimmed through the JavaDocs of the Jwitter library(Twitter class) and found a setStatus(String) method. I dont think I will have to make use of retweet() or reply() functions of the Twitter class in JTwitter library. Is my understanding correct? Please correct me if I am wrong here or missing anything.   In my application I have created a SplashScreen that will b shown for 5 Seconds and after that it executes an if else case depending upon the values stored in the Preference file. If Preference file contains values then the AsyncTask code will run else the Login form will load. When i try to run my application. The thread is going to the Login form with the help of intent but when it comes to AsyncTask my application shows a force close error message.   I'm working on an ASP.NET project in which the vast majority of the forms are generated dynamically at run time (form definitions are stored in a DB for customizability). Therefore, I have to dynamically create and add my controls to the Page every time OnLoad fires, regardless of IsPostBack. This has been working just fine and .NET takes care of managing ViewState for these controls. protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { base.OnLoad(e); RenderDynamicControls() } private void RenderDynamicControls(){ //1. call service layer to retrieve form definition //2. create and add controls to page container } I have a new requirement in which if a user clicks on a given button (this button is created at design time) the page should be re-rendered in a slightly different way. It seems beyond hacky to effectively render the form twice simply to respond to a button click. I gather from my research that this is simply how the page-lifecycle works in ASP.NET: Namely, that OnLoad must fire on every Postback before child events are invoked. Still, it's worthwhile to check with the SO community before having to drink the kool-aid. On a related note, once I get this feature completed, I'm planning on throwing an UpdatePanel on the page to perform the page updates via Ajax.   Hi there, I am trying to create a menu using ASP (I have never used ASP before, im a PHP man) using values stored in a database. basically the html layout i want is as such: <ul> <li> <ul class="sub-menu"> <li class="sub-menu-li">Test</li> </ul> </li> </ul> I need to loop around the root menu items rs("AD_Level") which is equal to 0 for root objects, then inside that loop, lop around anything that has the same parent id eg if the current record is AD_Level =0 and AD_Parent=5 then loop around all items with AD_Parent 5 and AD_Level != 0 and insert the values into html and so on and so forth. Please help! Here are 3 general schemes to make a living: Independent developers can offer a trial then purchase scheme. An alternative is an open source base application with pay extensions. A last (probably least popular with customers) scheme is to enforce some kind of subscription. Then the price of the software pales in comparison to the long term subscription fees. So, my question would be a hypothetical one. Suppose that you invest thousands of hours into developing an application. Now suppose you can choose any one of the three options to make a living off this application--or any other option you want--and suppose you have a very real fear of loosing 80% of your revenue to a cracked version if one can be made. To be clear this application does not require the internet to perform all its useful functions, that is, your application is a prime candidate to be a cracked release on some website. Which option would you feel most comfortable with defending yourself against this possible situation and briefly describe why this option would be the best.

  After going through Entity Framework I have a couple of questions on implementing auditing in Entity Framework. I want to store each column values that is created or updated to a different audit table. Rightnow I am calling SaveChanges(false) to save the records in the DB(still the changes in context is not reset). Then get the added | modified records and loop through the GetObjectStateEntries. • ASP.NET Membership C# - How to compare existing password/hash

  I have been on this problem for a while. I need to compare a paasword that the user enters to a password that is in the membership DB. The password is hashed and has a salt. Because of the lack of documentation I do not know if the salt is append to the password and then hashed how how it is created. I am unable to get this to match. The hash returned from the function never matches the hash in the DB and I know for fact it is the same password. Microsoft seems to hash the password in a different way then I am. I hope someone has some insights please. • Increasing Regex Efficiency

  I have about 100k Outlook mail items that have about 500-600 chars per Body. I have a list of 580 keywords that must search through each body, then append the words at the bottom. I believe I've increased the efficiency of the majority of the function, but it still takes a lot of time. Even for 100 emails it takes about 4 seconds. • Why isn't this simple PHP/MySQL code working?

  I am very new to php/mysql and this is causing me to loose hairs, I am trying to build a multi level site navigation. But the second part does not work and I can't understand why. I am trying to match a category with a parent that is stored in it's own table, but it returns nothing even though the categories all have parents. Can anyone tell me why this is? p.s. The $categories variable contains the sub category id.

• Struggling to create correct relationships in MS Access

So for example: the unit 'Advanced Software Engineering' maybe a core unit for the award 'Software Engineering BSc' but only an optional unit for the course 'Web Technology BSc'. I've used flags for that purpose. A student is enrolled on an award so I need to get a complete list of core and optional units (bearing in mind that a student chooses 1 out of many possible optional units). Also, these units have events, e.g, a lecture, workshop or seminar, etc. and those events have sessions or instances of events where students enrolled on that particular unit are required to attend, and those attendances are stored in a separate table to form a register. So I need a hierarchy of expanding the tables something like this I guess: Awards - Students - Units - Sessions - Attendances Any help with this would be appreciated... It's blowing my mind and I'm really close to going insane! My tutor didn't spot I'd got it wrong when I showed my original data model to him and it's due in next week! Thank you :D

• GCC/X86, Problems with relative jumps

  I'm trying to do a relative jump in x86 assembly, however I can not get it to work. It seems that for some reason my jump keeps getting rewritten as an absolute jump or something. A simple example program for what I'm trying to do is this: .global main main: jmp 0x4 ret Since the jmp instruction is 4 bytes long and a relative jump is offset from the address of the jump + 1, this should be a fancy no-op. However, compiling and running this code will cause a segmentation fault. The real puzzler for me is that compiling it to the object level and then disassembling the object file shows that it looks like the assembler is correctly doing a relative jump, but after the file gets compiled the linker is changing it into another type of jump. For example if the above code was in a file called asmtest.s: $gcc -c asmtest.s $objdump -D asmtest.o ... Some info from objdump 00000000 <main>: 0: e9 00 00 00 00 jmp 5 <main+0x5> 5: c3 ret This looks like the assembler correctly made a relative jump, although it's suspicious that the jmp instruction is filled with 0s. I then used gcc to link it then disassembled it and got this: $gcc -o asmtest asmtest.o $objdump -d asmtest ...Extra info and other disassembled functions 08048394 <main>: 8048394: e9 6b 7c fb f7 jmp 4 <_init-0x8048274> 8048399: c3 ret This to me looks like the linker rewrote the jmp statement, or substituted the 5 in for another address. So my question comes down to, what am I doing wrong? Am I specifying the offset incorrectly? Am I misunderstanding how relative jumps work? Is gcc trying to make sure I don't do dangerous things in my code?

• Complete failure to compile when include CSS Friendly Adapters

  Background - I am trying to use the friendly adapters to override the default styling for the standard asp.net menu control that is used by an existing project. The existing project functions normally and compiles when requested without incident. Adding in the code for the for the CSS Friendly adapter and not only does it not compile, but it never even really starts. The Problem in Detail - I am using the sample code from Scott on this page: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2006/09/08/CSS-Control-Adapter-Toolkit-Update.aspx. The sample project compiles fine, just within the existing project does it fail. Fails without a line number or any other traceable info. It definately appears to be related to the CSSMenuAdapter.browser file, which has been referenced by others online as the cause of similar error. I have tried addind and readding, using as a dll, using as a code file in app code, etc. I am working with aspdotnetstorefront in this case, although it is not unique to them as I have found other references in software packages online. Only thing is, no one ever says what solved the issue. I am using Windows 7, VS2008 Express and SQL Express 2008 R2. The full error msg is: Error 10 Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown. Notice that there is no file, line, or column info. Really need some help here. I have been working on this a long time. This really should have tag: cssfriendlyadapter but I could not create that.

• Calling method on category included from iPhone static library causes NSInvalidArgumentException

  I have created a static library to house some of my code like categories. I have a category for UIViews in "UIView-Extensions.h" named Extensions. In this category I have a method called: - (void)fadeOutWithDelay:(CGFloat)delay duration:(CGFloat)duration; Calling this method works fine on the simulator on Debug configuration. However, if try to run the app on the device I get a NSInvalidArgumentException: [UIView fadeOutWithDelay:duration:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1912b0 *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIView fadeOutWithDelay:duration:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1912b0 It seems for some reason UIView-Extensions.h is not being included in the device builds. What I have checked/tried I did try to include another category for NSString, and had the same issue. Other files, like whole classes and functions work fine. It is an issue that only happens with categories. I did a clean all targets, which did not fix the problem. I checked the static library project, the categories are included in the target's "copy headers" and "compile sources" groups. The static library is included in the main projects "link binary with library" group. Another project I have added the static library to works just fine.   I have a person object and wants to store it into a global ArrayCollection I have made. I can't seem to get it right. I know it's something to do with scope and I have to wrap something in functions like in my ArrayCollection.   Hi, I have a dataset that has two datatables. In the first datatable I have EmpNo,EmpName and EmpAddress In the second datatable I have Empno,EmpJoindate, EmpSalary. I want a result where I should show EmpName as the label and his/her details in the gridview I populate a datalist with the first table, and have EmpNo as the datakeys. Then I populate the gridview inside the datatable which has EmpNo,EmpJoinDate and EmpAddress. My code is some what as below Datalist1.DataSource = dt; Datalist1.DataBind(); for (int i = 0; i < Datalist1.Items.Count; i++) { int EmpNo = Convert.ToInt32(Datalist1.DataKeys[i]); GridView gv = (GridView)Datalist1.FindControl("gv"); gv.DataSource = dt2; gv.DataBind(); } Now I have a problem, I have to bind the Details of the corresponding Employee to the gridview. Whereas the above code will display all the details of all employees in the gridview. If we use IEnumerable we give a condition where(a=a.eno=EmpNo), and bind that list to the gridview. How do I do this in datatable. kindly do not give me suggestions of altering the stored procedure which results the values in two tables, because that cannot be altered. • ConcurrentLinkedQueue$Node remains in heap after remove()

  I have a multithreaded app writing and reading a ConcurrentLinkedQueue, which is conceptually used to back entries in a list/table. I originally used a ConcurrentHashMap for this, which worked well. A new requirement required tracking the order entries came in, so they could be removed in oldest first order, depending on some conditions. ConcurrentLinkedQueue appeared to be a good choice, and functionally it works well. A configurable amount of entries are held in memory, and when a new entry is offered when the limit is reached, the queue is searched in oldest-first order for one that can be removed. Certain entries are not to be removed by the system and wait for client interaction. What appears to be happening is I have an entry at the front of the queue that occurred, say 100K entries ago. The queue appears to have the limited number of configured entries (size() == 100), but when profiling, I found that there were ~100K ConcurrentLinkedQueue$Node objects in memory. This appears to be by design, just glancing at the source for ConcurrentLinkedQueue, a remove merely removes the reference to the object being stored but leaves the linked list in place for iteration. Finally my question: Is there a "better" lazy way to handle a collection of this nature? I love the speed of the ConcurrentLinkedQueue, I just cant afford the unbounded leak that appears to be possible in this case. If not, it seems like I'd have to create a second structure to track order and may have the same issues, plus a synchronization concern.

The main difference I see is that memcache stays on with the server from page to page, while mine is for 1 page load. The problem I see arising, and this is with any system, is that they're dynamic. They change all the time. Whether its search results, visible products, etc. etc. If it's all cached, won't the create a problem? Is there a way to handle this? Obviously if something is bringing back the same results everytime it would be cached, but that's why I was doing it on a per page load basis. I'm sure there is a way to handle this, or is the cache time usually set between 5 minutes and an hour?

• VS2010 : javascript intellisense : specifying properties for 'options' objects passed to methods

  Since javascript intellisense actually seems to work in VS2010, I thought I might add some to those scripts I include in almost everything. The trouble is, on some complex functions, I use option objects instead of passing umpteen different parameters, like so: function myFunc(options){ var myVar1 = options.myVar1, myVar2 = options.myVar2, myVar3 = options.myVar3; ... } the trouble I am running into is, there doesn't seem to be a way to specify what properties options needs to have. I've tried this: function myFunc(options){ ///<summary>my func does stuff...</summary> ///<param name="options"> ///myVar1 : the first var ///myVar2 : the second var ///myVar3 : the third var ///</param> var myVar1 = options.myVar1, myVar2 = options.myVar2, myVar3 = options.myVar3; ... } but the line breaks are removed and all the property comments run together, making them stupidly hard to read. I've tried the <para> tags, but to no avail. If anyone has any ideas on how I might achieve this, please let me know. -Brandon

• How do I tell gcc to relax its restrictions on typecasting when calling a C function from C++?

  I'm trying to use Cmockery to mock C functions called from C++ code. Because the SUT is in C++, my tests need to be in C++. When I use the Cmockery expect_string() macro like this: expect_string(mock_function, url, "Foo"); I get: my_tests.cpp: In function ‘void test_some_stuff(void**)’: my_tests.cpp:72: error: invalid conversion from ‘void*’ to ‘const char*’ my_tests.cpp:72: error: initializing argument 5 of ‘void _expect_string(const char*, const char*, const char*, int, const char*, int)’ I see in cmockery.h that expect_string is defined: #define expect_string(function, parameter, string) \ expect_string_count(function, parameter, string, 1) #define expect_string_count(function, parameter, string, count) \ _expect_string(#function, #parameter, __FILE__, __LINE__, (void*)string, \ count) And here's the prototype for _expect_string (from cmockery.h): void _expect_string( const char* const function, const char* const parameter, const char* const file, const int line, const char* string, const int count); I believe the problem is that I'm compiling C code as C++, so the C++ compiler is objecting to (void*)string in the expect_string_count macro being passed as the const char* string parameter to the _expect_string() function. I've already used extern "C" around the cmockery.h include in my_tests.cpp like this: extern "C" { #include <cmockery.h> } ...in order to get around name-mangling problems. (See "How do I compile and link C++ code with compiled C code?") Is there a command-line option or some other means of telling g++ how to relax its restrictions on typecasting from my test's C++ code to the C function in cmockery.c? • javascript pausing consistently. How do I find what is causing it to pause?

  I've got a fairly ajax heavy site and I'm trying to tune the performance. I have a function that runs between 20 & 200 times, depending on the user. I'm outputting the time the function takes to execute via console.time in firefox. The function takes about 4-6ms to complete. The strange thing is that on my larger test with 200 or runs through that function, it runs through the first 31, then seems to pause for almost a second before completing the last 170 or so. However, that 'pause' doesn't show up in the console.time logs, and I'm not running any other functions, and the object that gets passed to the function looks the same as all other objects that get passed in. The function is called like this for (var s in thisGroup.events){ showEvent(thisGroup.events[s]) } so, I don't see how or why it would suddenly pause near the beginning. but only pause once and then continue through. The pause ALWAYS happens on the 31st time through the function. I've taken a close look at the 'thisGroup.events[s]' that it is being run through, and it looks like this for #31 "eventId":"5106", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"70","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" The event immediately after the pause, #32 looks like this "eventId":"5111", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"71","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" another event that runs through no problem looks like this "eventId":"5113", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"72","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"4:30 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"6.5", "durationTime":"6:30", "note":"", "desc":"event" From the console outputs, it doesn't appear as there is anything hanging or taking up time in the function itself, as the console.time for each event including #31,32 is 4ms. Another strange thing here is that the total time running the for loop across the entire object is coming out as 1014ms which is right for 200 events at 4-6ms each. Any suggestions on how to find this 'pause'? I find it very interesting that it is consistently happening between #31 & #32 only!

• jQuery loading issues within wordpress

  I am having a couple problems trying to manually insert some jQuery features into a wordpress theme. I have a lightbox wordpress plugin that is jQuery based that is working fine. So if I manually load the jQuery script into wordpress the functions seem to work but instead of say a slide being hidden it is revealed when it should still be hidden. Or a pop up that should work is already being shown instead of hidden. • Passing Object to Service in WCF

  Hi, I have my custom class Customer with its properties. I added DataContract mark above the class and DataMember to properties and it was working fine, but I'm calling a service class's function, passing customer instance as parameter and some of my properties get 0 values. While debugging I can see my properties values and after it gets to the function, some properties' values are 0. Why it can be so? There's no code between this two actions. DataContract mark workes fine, everything's ok. Any suggestions on this issue? I tried to change ByRef to ByVal, but it doesn't change anything. Why it would pass other values right and some of integer types just 0? Maybe the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out. When I create an instance of a class on client side, that is stored on service side, some of my properties pass 0 or nothing, but when I call a function of a service class, that returns a new instance of that class, it works fine. What's is the difference? Could that be serialization issue?
