• Any serious problems when making an old java web app run on new IE 8 browser?

  I need make an quick estimation on project (not sure we got): It's an old banking CMS java web app: Server: jdk5, weblogic 9. Client: winXP, Ie6. It was design only for use with ie6 but now we need make it also run well on new client: ie8,ie7 on win7. I understand the most difference is the client: DOM and CSS. But my problem is we hasn't been worked with ie8, and I have not enough time to build an testing environment because our developing environment is not ready to make test (its remoting completely, and managed by another partner) Any experience or suggestion to help me weighing this task need will be welcomed.

• SMO missing dll on a clients

  I've created an app that connects remotely to SQL Server 2008. SQL connections work and all traditional oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(), work great! But my SMO class using server.ConnectionContext.ExecuteNonQuery(scriptfile); ERROR: missing batch parsing.dll . I can't install these independent utils on a client machines, and then take them all off when done: as suggested by: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=228de03f-3b5a-428a-923f-58a033d316e1 Since my bulk-inserts are large memory hogs containing complete tables, I wrote the tables to a temptable.sql files and used SQLCMD Util and later switch too SMO and I have the same problem. Neither of these can be leveraged on the client's PCs . Any suggestion? thanks :-)

  Well The title might be a lil confusing, what I am currently doing is creating an aspx form dynamically and saving its data by using Server.Transfer("PrssPage.aspx"). On ProcessPage.aspx I am using the Previous Page property to save the data entered by the user using the dynamically created form. Each Dynamic Form is provided an ID for example 123.aspx Now what I want to achieve is to repopulate the dynamically created aspx page with the user input values from database, plz note here that I do not have an aspx.cs page getting dynamically generated. I am only generating aspx page. Any suggestion ?

• How do I prevent Eclipse from hanging on startup?

  I am using Eclipse 3.3 ("Europa"). Periodically, Eclipse takes an inordinately long time (perhaps forever) to start up. The only thing I can see in the Eclipse log is: !ENTRY org.eclipse.core.resources 2 10035 2008-10-16 09:47:34.801 !MESSAGE The workspace exited with unsaved changes in the previous session; refreshing workspace to recover changes. Googling reveals someone's suggestion that I remove the folder: workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\.root\.indexes This does not appear to have helped. Short of starting with a new workspace (something which I am not keen to do, as it takes me hours to set up all my projects again properly), is there a way to make Eclipse start up properly?

• Automation of testing using JUnit

  Hi, i am trying to automate manual testing of modules in my project. We are dealing with IBM Websphere Message queue software. We have a trigger component written in core java which when executed polls for availability of message in the configured queue. Its an indefinite while loop that keeps the trigger component running. I have written test cases in JUnit to put message in the queue and now will i be able to start/stop the trigger component on demand? Invoking the trigger component keeps it running and i am not getting the control back to check the expected output. If i start it in thread then the log files to which the trigger component is supposed to update when processing the message is not getting updated. How can i resolve this situation. Your suggestion and directions is highly appreciated. Thanks, -Vijay

• Subversion core on a sharedhosting

  Hi! I've signed up for a shared hosting plan in bluehost and tried installing a subversion by following this instruction: bluehost forum svn install script all goes well at first even tried svnadmin create project_name and was a success but then when I traverse to project_name I got this error "svn: '.' is not a working copy" when I run svn info. I think I may have encountered an error on the compilation process, can't remember exactly but i think it has something to do with a ".so" file when I run the make && make install command , something about permission. Any help or suggestion is very much appreciated. Thanks!

For SunOS, I have below output process,10050,user1,218,59,0,1271M,1260M,sleep,58.9H,0.02%,java here the cpu % is at 11th field if we separate by comma(,). To get this value I am using below regex regex => q/^process,(?:.*?),((?:\d+)\.(?:\d+))%,java$/, but for the linux system I have below output. process,26190,user1,20,0,1236m,43m,6436,S,0.0,1.1,0:00.00,java, here the cpu usage is at 10th column What regex pattern should i use to get this value. Appreciate for any suggestion.

• Getting the battery current values for the Android Phone

  I am trying to collect power usage statistics for the Android G1 Phone. I am interested in knowing the values of Voltage and Current, and then able to collect statistics as reported in this PDF. I am able to get the value of Battery voltage through registering for an intent receiver to receive the Broadcast for ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. But the problem is that Android does not expose the value of current through this SDK interface. One way I tried is via sysfs interface, where I can view the battery current value from adb shell, using the following command $cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_current 449 But that too works only if the phone is connected via USB interface. If I disconnect the phone, I see the value of batt_current as '0'. I am not sure why the value of current reported is zero. It should be more than zero, right? Any suggestion / pointers for getting battery current value? Also please correct me if I am wrong.

• Create automatically table that is composed by its primery key and 2 other foreign keys

  I have table A with a primary id, a table B with a primary key id also and another table C with a primary key id and rows Aid and Bid where Aid and Bid are foreign keys of C and the primary keys of A and B respectively. One way of populating these DB would be populating table A, table B and table C separately. I would like to know if there is a more clever way of doing it, where I could populate A first and at the same time I populate B, I can indicate that an entry in C should be also created. • Outlook MAPI session exception when outlook interface is closed

  I'm developing a email sender that retrieve data from a database, build up a MailItem with the Outlook Interop and send it. My email sender is running by a windows service that is notified everytime there's some data to send. I'm logging on the MAPI session of Outlook without problem and everything seems to work. But... when someone open Outlook interface and then close, my service crash at the first attempt i call a SendAndReceive method, with an exception that report that the session is assigned to another thread. I'm googling around for hours and i'm listening to the application_quit event, raised by the interface closing, trying to logoff and logon again to the application...but i'm still falling in the same error. Where am i wrong?Any suggestion? Thank you in advance

• Remote C++ Development using SSH only inside Eclipse Environment

  How do you integrate Remote Systems Explorer and CDT plugin inside eclipse ? What I mean is that you can use Remote Systems Explorer (RSE) plugin to work on C++ code on a remote linux box inside Eclipse but when you try to compile, you basically run a shell command through SSH. The CDT plugin is unable to locate the remote system and off course the remote compiler. Is there a way to integrate both the plugins so that we can use the parsing / suggestion features of CDT for the remote system as well; and also features like remote compilation, remote debugging using SSH only. If this is not possible, then what is the closest open source alternative to the above problem.

• Make two page navigations on top ang bottom of a list

  I'm creating a simple PHP page that reads CSV file content and display some selected columns to users in pages Currently, I'm reading each line and display it immediately. Because of this method, I only know total of lines after finishing reading entire file( searching in file also). What I want is displaying two page navigations on the top and bottom of the list. Like this: Page 1|2|3|4 Field 1|Field 2|Field 3|Field 4|Field 5....|Field n Row1 Row2 .... Rown Page 1|2|3|4 After displaying all rows, bottom page nav, I used jquery function: insertBefore to insert another page navi to the top. Problems are: 1) Top page nav not displayed in IE8 but displayed ater pressing F5(worked in FF, Chrome). 2) Using insertBefore function, the top page nav is suddenly poppep up afer displaying the bottom one. It doesn't look naturally Any suggestion?

• UserControl Behaviour on a Windows Form

  Hi, I have a usercontrol UC1 with a combobox and a button. From the constructor, after initializing all the controls, I am populating the combobox with an array of information brought from other class library. I have kept the UC1 on windows form. When I tried to open the form's designer I see some errors and a suggestion to rebuild to fix the errors. After searching over net I found that the logic of populating the combobox is the culprit. I changed the code with an additional check of null and the issue is fixed now. My question is, how am i able to see the same usercontrol seperatly in designer view, but not when i placed the UC1 on a form and trying to see the designer view for the form? The same combobox populating logic should affect the drawing of UC1 when I try to see it in designer view right? Thanks, AK.

  Wikipedia has a auto-suggest feature on its search field. If you for instance type in "mars" it lists a few items including Mars, Marseille, Marsh. I am looking to implement something similar working off the latest DBpedia export (wikipedia in database form). If I do a search for all labels in the labels_en.nt file that DBpedia offer that begin with "mars" then, even if I remove ones that redirect on to others that are listed, I end up with a huge list. In trying to understand how wikipedia does this I noticed that I'm actually querying this URL which returns a JSON string. Now my problem is that I don't know how wikipedia narrows the list down. Perhaps it does so based on page popularity. The higher views/edits a page has the higher it goes in this suggestion box. If so, does DBpedia export this information?

• What is the recommended toolchain for formatting XML DocBook?

  I've seen Best tools for working with DocBook XML documents, but my question is slightly different. Which is the currently recommended formatting toolchain - as opposed to editing tool - for XML DocBook? In Eric Raymond's 'The Art of Unix Programming' from 2003 (an excellent book!), the suggestion is XML-FO (XML Formatting Objects), but I've since seen suggestions here that indicated that XML-FO is no longer under development (though I can no longer find that question on StackOverflow, so maybe it was erroneous). Assume I'm primarily interested in Unix/Linux (including MacOS X), but I wouldn't automatically ignore Windows-only solutions. Is Apache's FOP the best way to go? Are there any alternatives?

• performance issue in a select query from a single table

  Hi , I have a table as below dbo.UserLogs ------------------------------------- Id | UserId |Date | Name| P1 | Dirty ------------------------------------- There can be several records per userId[even in millions] I have clustered index on Date column and query this table very frequently in time ranges. The column 'Dirty' is non-nullable and can take either 0 or 1 only so I have no indexes on 'Dirty' I have several millions of records in this table and in one particular case in my application i need to query this table to get all UserId that have at least one record that is marked dirty. I tried this query - select distinct(UserId) from UserLogs where Dirty=1 I have 10 million records in total and this takes like 10min to run and i want this to run much faster than this. [i am able to query this table on date column in less than a minute.] Any comments/suggestion are welcome. my env 64bit,sybase15.0.3,Linux

  I'm attempting to build a Tropo Ruby application and I need to retrieve the result of an HTTPS GET. The Tropo platform doesn't have the httpclient Ruby gem so I can't use that. The Ruby engine used is JRuby so a suggestion has been to make use of the Java URL class to do the request. • What's a good bit of JS or JQuery for horizontally scrolling news ticker

  Hi, I am looking for a little bit of JQuery or JS that allows me to produce a horizontally scrolling "news ticker" list. The produced HTML needs to be standards compliant as well. I have tried liScroll but this has a habit of breaking (some content ends up on a second line at the start of the scroll), especially with longer lists. I have also tried this News Ticker but when a DOCTYPE is included the scrolling will jolt rather than cycle smoothly at the end of each cycle. Any suggestions are appreciated. Edit So thanks to Matt Hinze's suggestion I realised I could do what I wanted to do with JQuery animate (I require continuous scrolling not discrete scrolling like the example). However, I quickly ran into similar problems to those I was having with liScroll and after all that realised a CSS issue (as always) was responsible. Solution: liScroll - change the default 'var stripWidth = 0' to something like 100, to give a little space and avoid new line wrapping.

• VS2010 + Resharper 5 performance issues

  I have been using VS2010 with Resharper 5 for several weeks and am having a performance issue. Sometimes when typing, the cursor will lag and the keystrokes won't show instantaneously. Also, scrolling will lag at times. There is a forum thread started and JetBrains has been responding. Several people (including myself) have added their voice and uploaded some performance profiles. If anyone here has has this issue, I would encourage you to visit the thread and let JetBrains know about it. Has anyone had this problem and have a suggestion to restore performance?

• how to link with static mySQL C library with Visual Studio 2008?

  Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\MSVCRT.lib: Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\OLDNAMES.lib: Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\msvcprt.lib: Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\LIBCMT.lib: LIBCMT.lib(setlocal.obj) : error LNK2005: _setlocale already defined in MSVCRT.lib(MSVCR90.dll) Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\MSVCRT.lib: MSVCRT.lib(MSVCR90.dll) : error LNK2005: _toupper already defined in LIBCMT.lib(toupper.obj) 2- two warnings that MSVCRT and LIBCMT conflicts with use of other libs, with a suggestion to use /NODEFAULTLIB:library:. I don't understand that suggestion: what am I supposed to do and how? LINK : warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRT' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library LINK : warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'LIBCMT' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library 3- an external symbol is undefined: _main. So does that mean that the static mySQL lib (but not the DLL) references a _main symbol? For the sake of it, I tried to define an empty function named _main() in my code, with no difference. LIBCMT.lib(crt0.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _main As mentioned in my first question, my code is a port of a fully working Mac version of the code. Its a plugin for a host application that I don't control. The port currently works, albeit with installation issues due to that lone remaining DLL. As a Mac programmer I am rather disoriented with Visual Studio and Windows which I find confusing, poorly designed and documented, with error messages that are very difficult to grasp and act upon. So I will be very grateful for any help.
