  • What is the proper way to wait a script loaded completely before another

    - by FatDogMark
I am making a website that is divided by several sections <div id='section-1' class='section'>web content</div> <div id='section-2' class='section'>web content</div> I have like ten sections on my webpage ,each sections height is set to the user window height when document is ready by javascript $('.section').height($(window).height()); Some effects like slideshows on my webpage require the calculated height of the section in order to work properly. Therefore I always use something like this at document ready as a solution. setTimeout(startslideshow,1000); setTimeout(startanimations,1000); ...etc To make sure the section height is the user window height before the slideshow's code start because the sections cannot change to user window height instantly once the webpage loaded will generate serious problems in my slideshow code, like wrong calculated positions. Therefore there will be a situation that's after the page loaded, there will be about a second everything is messed up,before everything can works properly, how could I avoid that being seen by the user? I tried to $(document).hide(),or $('html,body').hide(), then fade in after a second, but I get other weird problems, especially on ipad,my fixed position top navigation bar will always become 'not fixed' while user is scrolling. As I am a self-learner, I afraid my method is not typical. I want to know what is the common ways of real web programmers usually do when they have to divide his webpage into different sections and set its height to window height , then make sure the other effects that's depends on the section height works properly and avoid to wait the height change for a second?

  • Submit multiple forms as one

    - by Stephen Sarcsam Kamenar
I have two forms on the page. To the user it looks like 1 form, and I actually wish it was one form. But the way I'm trying to reuse code and include things, I can't avoid two forms in the source code... trying to act as one. I don't want to do ajax submit, I want a normal post submit, my form handler has redirects in it. How can I submit both of these, and get values that make sense on the server side. something like $_POST['form1]['whatever'] $_POST['form2]['thing'] Maybe take all the inputs from form 2, rename all of them with a prefix, and append them to form 1? I can't find a non-messy way of doing this. I don't think I need code, just a plan. Least messy idea wins.

  • IE8 is still caching my requests even with mathrandom.

    - by Ozaki
TLDR IE is still caching my requests even with Math.random() included in the URL. So I added math random onto the end of my url: var MYKMLURL = 'http://' + host + 'data/pattern?key='+ Math.random(); I also added math random onto my function param: window.setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 1000, MYKMLLAYER); function RefreshPatternData(layer) { layer.loaded = false; layer.setVisibility(true); layer.refresh({ force: true, params: { 'key': Math.random()} }); setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 30000, MYKMLLAYER); } So the request appears as http://host/data/pattern?key=35678652545 etc. It changes everytime the request is made. It works in Firefox & Chrome & Safari etc. But IE8 is still caching the data and not updating my layer. Any ideas as to why this might be occuring?

  • Gaining Reference to the Dialog from Dialog content

    - by coffeeaddict
Here's my scenario: I've got a div on Page A. When an event happens (whatever I define, a click, whatever), I do a div.Dialog, set its properties and open it The data inside is returned from an async .ajax call that grabs the data from a url and appends it to the div by calling div.html(data) inside the .ajax callback, so it's essentially loading a PageB by getting the data (content) and appending it to the div that's calling the dialog("open")...nothing special here I don't think. My question: In Page B, how do I reference the dialog so I can do some things to it? For instance in Page B's content that I received back from that .ajax call and added to the div via .html(data), there is a button and when clicked I need to close the dialog. Right now my buttons are not working because one of them closes out the dialog and the other should redirect to a new page but both do not work now because I have no reference to the dialog that it's in to manipulate it.

  • How do you make the script wait for the status of an Ajax get request before continuing?

    - by codeninja
Basically what I'm doing is checking for the existence of an object, if it's not found, the script will try to load the source file using getScript. I only want to check this once though then return true or false to the function that calls fetch() fetch:function(obj){ ... isReady = false; $.getScript(obj.srcFile,function(){ isReady=true; warn("was able to load object "+key); }); return isReady; } but return kicks in before the script loads =/ later the script is loaded but the function returned false. This is the beauty of asynchronous I suppose... What's the best way to handle this... Maybe I could check again at some other point if the object exists? Or maybe there's a better way to do this where I dont have to potentially lock the browser?

  • Select lowest nested selector when clicked

    - by rikAtee
    I would like to click $('.sub-menu') selector and return the lowerst nested item that was clicked, rather than the highest. e.g., when I click "enlish", "root" is returned becasue "english" is a child of "root". I want "english" returned when I select "english". <div ID="browse_container"> <div class="sub-menu">Root <div class="sub-menu">English</div> <div class="sub-menu">Maths <div class="sub-menu">Year 1</div> <div class="sub-menu">Year 2</div> </div> <div class="sub-menu">? Science</div> </div> </div> my script is simply: $('.sub-menu, #root').on('click', function(event){ alert($(this).text()) });

    - by LA_
    I have a number of fields with labels-links like below: <div class="control-group"> <label class="control-label" for="some-id-1"><a href="http://example.com/some-id-1" target="_blank">Text1</a></label> <div class="controls"> <input type="text" id="some-id-1" name="some-id-1"><br> </div> </div> <div class="control-group"> <label class="control-label" for="some-id-2"><a href="http://example.com/some-id-2" target="_blank">Text2</a></label> <div class="controls"> <input type="text" id="some-id-2" name="some-id-2"><br> </div> </div> If user clicks on the link, how can I focus according field (without preventing default action)? I.e. if user clicks on Text1, then I should open http://example.com/some-id-1 in new window and set focus at input with id some-id-1.

  • Clone elements and load previously loaded scripts

    - by kuswantin
Hi, I am using clone() to move certain elements into another place in the DOM, but had trouble due to the fact that the scripts previously rendered was not available anymore when called from the cloned elements. So I think I need to call them again, but one by one will be a PITA. Perhaps getScript will do, but I have no idea to call more than one. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

  • Check for element equality in an animation function.

    - by Zardoz
    I have the the below code and would expect that in the first pass of the fadeTo function "yes" would be printed as those first two console logs tell me it is the same element. But it doesn't recognize them as equal. What do I miss here? var tds = self.element.find("td:nth-child(" + (columnIndex + 1) + ")"); tds.fadeTo(options.columnFadeOutTime, 0, function() { window.console.log(tds.first()); window.console.log($(this)); if ($(this) == tds.first()) { window.console.log("yes"); } else { window.console.log("no"); } }

  • Click() works in IE but not Firefox

    - by Tom Andrews
I have code which is trivial but only works in IE not Firefox. $(document).ready(function(){ $('li#first').click(); }); I have also tried: document.getElementById('first').click(); But that doesn't work either. Is this an IE bug/feature or is click() not supported in the other browsers? Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

  • How to take value from radio selection and pass that value into a hidden inputs value attribute?

    - by Matthew
    Hello guys, I need to know if this can be done and if so can someone push me in the right direction. Okay I have a series of radio buttons: <input type="radio" name="level_id" id="radio1" value="XXXX" class="radio1" /> <label for="radio1">choice 1</label> <input type="radio" name="level_id" id="radio2" value="XXXX" class="radio2" /> <label for="radio2">choice 2</label> <input type="radio" name="level_id" id="radio3" value="XXXX" class="radio3" /> <label for="radio3">choice 3</label> <label for="radio4">second choice1</label> <input type="radio" name="level_id" id="radio4" value="1" class="radio4" /> <label for="radio5">second choice2</label> <input type="radio" name="level_id" id="radio5" value="2" class="radio5" /> <label for="radio6">second choice3</label> <input type="radio" name="level_id" id="radio6" value="3" class="radio6" /> Now what I am looking to do is if someone selects CHOICE 1 and then selects SECOND CHOICE1 I would like to pass the value of SECOND CHOICE1 into the value of a hidden input. <input type="hidden" name="sub_source" id="sub_source" value="" /> So that when the form is ready to submit the value that gets passed would be: <input type="hidden" name="sub_source" id="sub_source" value="1" />

  • Adding a comment system to my website

    - by MJ93
Hey everyone, I'm trying to add some type of comment system to my website for the news that I post on the main page. What I would like it to do is have anybody comment on it (they don't need to login). The comment submission form just required a Name and comment. What would be the simplest way to do this? It would also be nice to have it display how many comments there currently are on the news post. I dont need anything fancy. Thanks!

  • How to add attributes to a HTML element in a valid way?

    - by Click Upvote
I want to be able to add an attribute to a HTML element to be able to identify what its referring to. E.g if I have a list of names and a checkbox next to each name, like this: <div id="users"> Bob smith <input type=checkbox /> </div> And when a checkbox is clicked and the event handler function for it is called, I want to be able to identify which user was selected/unselected. Ideally I'm looking for something like this: <input type=checkbox data-userId = "xxx" /> Then when its clicked: function handleClick() { var userId = $(this).attr('data-userId'); } However I'm looking to do this in a way that won't break my HTML validation, and would still be valid HTML and work in all browsers. Any suggestions?

  • Is there away to load a page only once with AJAX?

    - by digitup
I have an AJAX call to load a function once the page is loaded, the function opens a lightbox a like frame with some data. The issue is that if I click on close (lightbox frame), the page loads again and again loading the frame so the use never reaches the page under the layer of frame since the frame load on infinite loop. The Ajax is repeating calling the function I guess but I would like to load the frame once and when the user clicks X (close) he may return to the original page. $(document).ready(function(){ var city = $('#citycode').html(); $.ajax({ //when page is loaded, fire the following function success: function(){ //the function to be fired located in the page in seperate file openX(city + //some other parameters); }}); }); Any tips?
