    It’s no secret I am a fan of dependency injection.  So I was happy to hear that Dick Wall of the Java Posse recently released a dependency injection framework for scala.  Called SubCut, or Scala Uniquely Bound Classes Under Traits, the project is a ‘mix of service locator and dependency injection patterns designed to provide an idiomatic way of providing configured dependencies to scala applications’.     While trying to solve a problem of removing conditional execution from my code, I wanted to take advantage of .NET 4.0 and it’s dynamic capabilities. Going with DynamicObject or ExpandoObject initially didn’t get me any success since those by default support properties and indexes, but not methods. Luckily, I have a reply for my post and learned about this great OSS library called impromptu-interface. It based on DLR capabilities in .NET 4.0 and I have to admit that it made my code extremely simple – no more if :)

  • VS 2010 SP1 BETA – App.config XML Transformation Fix

    The current version for App.config XML tranformations as described in a previous post does not support the SP1 BETA version of Visual Studio. I did some quick tests and decided to provide a different version with a compatibility fix for those already experimenting with the beta release of the service pack. This is a quick workaround to the build errors I found when using the transformations in SP1 beta and is pretty much untested since I’ll wait for the final release of the service pack to take a closer look to any possible problems. But for now, those that already installed SP1 beta can use the following transformations: VS 2010 SP1 BETA – App.config XML Transformation And those with the RTM release of Visual Studio can continue to use the original version of the transformations available from: VS 2010 RTM – App.config XML Transformation

    Do you catch yourself doing something like this often? 1: Ajax.request('/my/url', {'myParam': paramVal}, function() { myCallback(paramVal); }); Creating a function which calls another function asynchronously is a bad idea because the value of paramVal may change before it is called.  Enter the curry function: 1: Function.prototype.curry = function(scope) { 2: var args = []; 3: for (var i=1, len = arguments.length; i < len; ++i) { 4: args.push(arguments[i]); 5: } 6: var m = this; 7: return function() { 8: m.apply(scope, args); 9: }; 10: } This function creates a wrapper around the function and ‘locks in’ the method parameters.  The first parameter is the scope of the function call (usually this or window).  Any remaining parameters will be passed to the method call.  Using the curry method the above call changes to: 1: Ajax.request('/my/url', {'myParam': paramVal}, myCallback.curry(window,paramVal)); Remember when passing objects to the curry method that the objects members may still change.

As we all know we can assign methods as object to delegate and later on we can call that method with the help delegates. We can also assign more then methods to delegates that is called Multicast delegates. It’s provide functionality to execute more then method at a time. It’s maintain delegates as invocation list (linked list). Let’s understands that via a example. We are going to use yesterday’s example and then we will extend that code multicast delegates. After that I have created two same CalculateNumber delegates addNumber and multiplyNumber then I have create a multicast delegates multiCast with combining two delegates. Now I want to call this both method so I have used Invoke method to call this delegates. As now our code is let’s run the application. Following is a output as expected.
