I've realized that Vim makes some basic tasks very efficient (cutting, deleting, pasting...) I would love to have those features in a word processor. Does anyone know one (I prefer open source).
I am trying to create a ERD using VISIO Professional 2010 (full install) but I am having problems.
I can't open the table properties windows at the bottom of the screen when I double click on a table, and I can't right-click on the table and choose properties because the choice is not there...
The Database tab is missing from the ribbon on top.
What can cause this? Here is what I already tried:
File/Options/Trust Center/ Trust Center Settings.../Add-ins/Disable all Application Add-ins is UNCHECKED
Is it possible to use a single port for SSTP and an IIS website, or will I be required to set up separate ports? I've got Server 2008 R2, and I tried doing it but now I can't get IIS to serve anything out of 443 even with RRAS uninstalled.
This is for a small home network, and I ideally want to open up just port 443 on the router and nothing else..
Any suggestions?
I'm setting up a KeePass database and it offers the ability to use a key file, which it says is more secure because it can use a longer and more complex password but is easier to break because you only need the key file to open the database. I'll only be using the key file on 2 computers (one desktop and one laptop), wo which is the best option?
Note that it's definitely more appealing to use the key file for me because i have a hard time remembering anything close to a random password.
Hello,
By default one user can open only one simultaneous connection on IIS6, how to increase this number? I do not find any option in IIS6 for this.

I have an XP machine on which Adobe Acrobat Reader crashes every time as soon as it starts. I've tried reinstalling 9 and it doesn't help at all. If I use it to open a PDF, it displays the first page, and can be scrolled for about 3 seconds before it crashes.
Is there some way to debug this?
I'm trying to generate a username using a single name field in excel which has the person's first name and last name. I'm open to what the username would be, as long as its intuitive for the user. The name fields can be tricky, as the data looks like this:
Albert Abongo (2 names)
Stephen Michael Essuah Ackah (4 names)
Alhaji Iddrisu Abdul-KArim (3 names)
I guess my ideal usernames for these people would be
aabongo
sackah
aabdul-karim
have installed VS 2003 in my XP VM, which was shared from a remote drive, after installing, when I tried to open new windows application, the IDE freezes, I have tried it many times, repairing, uninstalling .net 1.1 and VS 2003 and again install, mapping the share drive to my local, etc., After all these trials I was left with no option I know... Any help on this is highly appriciated.
Thnaks, Vijay.
I'm trying to configure caller id on a USB modem connected to a Windows 7 x32 machine. Hyperterminal isn't available so I downloaded the latest version of Putty and am using the Serial option. I'm using the modem's COM port details from Device Manager (COM5, 115200 baud), but when I open the putty session it just hangs with the cursor at the top left hand corner. Hitting the Enter key does nothing.
Any ideas??
I would like to assign Windows Firewall's public profile to the public Ethernet interface and the private profile to the private Ethernet interface. I can do this with the GUI via
Open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
Click on Windows Firewall Properties
Click the Private Profile Tab
Click Customize
Select the Interface I want (private)
Click OK
Repeat step 3-6 for the public profile
How do I do this via command line? I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2
I've used SimpleOCR, which has a nice GUI for correcting errors. Unfortunately it makes a lot of errors! (and suffers other bugs and limitations)
Is there a free OCR program for Windows which has such a GUI and a low error rate? I want it to show the original (bitmap) word while I'm editing the OCRed word similar to what SimpleOCR does:
Free is good. Open-source is better.
When there are more than 1 copies of yum running, I get this error:
Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit
Is there a way to make yum just exit the first time it can't get the lock rather than stay open waiting for it?
I had migrated from a Xenon Mac Pro to a late 2012 Mac mini, using Migration Assistant. Now, the Mac mini won't recognize PHP. I can't even open my user folder, through terminal neither.
I was running Homebrew and PHP 5.4. The Mac mini came out of the box with PHP 5.3 what could be the source of the problem.
Can someone confirm that it is a version caused problem or point me in the right direction?
Is there a way to integrate an LDAP authentication system on a windows network with intranet webapps so that the user on logging into their desktop does not need to log in a second time with the web app?
Open to other forms of authenticating other than LDAP if not possible.
I want to access my IIS hosted application over LAN. First I installed a DNS server. The DNS configuration steps are:
Go to DNS Manager - right click on System Name - click on configure a DNS Server.
DNS Server wizard open -, click on next button - Select radio button "forward lookup zone" click on next button.
In the second window. click on radio button "The server maintains the zone" and then click next.
Give the zone name "example.com"
Click on radio button, "Do Not allow dynamic updates". and then click next button.
In the next window, click on radio button "No it should not forward query" and then click next button.
Complete the configure a DNS server wizard and then click on finish button.
After it is managing the DNS records:
In DNS server wizard. open tree of forward lookup zone and right click on the new zone name "example.com" - properties and click on "Start of authority" and write values on text boxes
serial number=1
primary server=systemname.domainname
responsible person=hostmaster.domainname
Click on server name, highlight domain name, click on edit button and enter IP address of the server where I host my application.
Highlight new zone name and right click on it and click "New Host" option.
In this window there are three text boxes:
Name(user parent name if blank)=scoring
Fully Qualified Domain Name=scoring.example.com
IP Address= My IP Address
and check on "Create associated pointer(PTR) record"
and click on "Add Host" Host button and then click done button.
I have host header for my application is "scoring" on port 80 and its working fine on server my application setting are I have change its,
Advance setting --> Application Pool Identity --> Local System
application can access on server with host name "scoring" but it can not access on machines on LAN.
When I change LAN machine host file that is under,
C:/windows/system32/driver/etc/host
and edit it and enter host name with hosted machine IP like this:
scoring 192.168.1.20
By making these changes I can run the application over LAN machines as I mentioned above DNS setting by which I can run App over LAN with out editing the client's host file.
What mistake am I doing in this configuration?
I just don't know a better way to describe my issue that is driving me nuts.
I am trying to establish a test domain with virtual machines on a box that has Win7 with VMwware workstation installed. The purpouse with this domain will be so that we can try and test different situations before they go into the production network.
I build a VM with WinSrv2008R2 and I am using that VM as a template to make other servers for the domain by making clones of it. Now I raise a DC with one clone and a member server with another clone - I add the server to the domain. I am following a standard procedure as always (it is not my first domain). Then I make an admin account and I am adding the admin to be a member of the Domain and Enterprise Admins group.
That admin is admin with full priviledges on the DC.. no problem there.
But on the other server has ... somewhat half the privileges and I cant log in via RDP. I tryed with another account. Same issues.
For example (with half the privileges): I can't open the Even Viewer if I go via Start - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. But I can open the Even Viewer via the server manager. You can notice this on the image below. I mean WTF???
I am going crazy, I haven't experienced anything similar in my three years of expertise. I already lost 3 days troubleshooting this. Could this be related with the cloning? Perhaps if I make fresh installs of WinSrv2008 there won't be any problems?
I've had raised test domains as VMs on other occasions before, and there weren't any problems then. This is VMware Workstation 8. I've made clones before, on Workstation 7 it didn't had any problems. Anyone has any ideas?
UPDATE:
This is the info from the event log when I try to access via RDP:

This Mac Pro has dual SuperDrives both upper/lower drivebays, which could be independently ejected via the menubar under 10.5. After upgrading to 10.6, the upper drive no longer responds to the menu command. The eject button has to be hand-pressed with a paperclip to open (but a loaded disc can still be ejected via dragging to the trash).
Sounds like a simple setting somewhere, except I can't find it to re-enable the second drive.
We have an FDL file which is used to offer an online application possibility. The FDL is filled out and sent to a mailbox.
When I open the received file, Adobe Reader starts, loads the document in Internet Explorer (had to change my default browser because it doesn't work in chrome - the customer uses IE as default) and displays a warning that Adobe Reader has blocked the connection to the server where the initial document is saved:
I can then click on "Trust this document once" (translated by me!) or "Add this host to trusted hosts" (also translated by me!).
The second option doesn't work at all. The first option works but is a little bit annoying.
I looked into Adobe Readers options (Edit - "Voreinstellungen" in german / the last option - Security (advanced)) and found the possibility to add hosts, files and directories or allow Adobe Reader to use the "Trusted Websites" list from Internetoptions. When I add the website either to Trusted Websites or the trusted list in Adobe Readers options, the warning doesn't pop up but the content in the prefilled (by the applicant) input boxes of the document doesn't show up on Windows 7 but it does show up on Windows XP.
This Screenshot shows the settings window described in the last paragraph.
The big input box at the bottom normally holds the trusted files/directories/hosts list.
System Information:
Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Adobe Reader X
multiple IE versions (mine is latest but there's also IE 7 or 8)
How do I get Adobe Reader to load the content of the form?
This behaviour can be reproduced on a PC. When opening an fdf from a command line the form fields are blank even though there is data in the fdf and the pdf is located in a mnaully entered trsuted folder.
Steps to reproduce:
Clean install a Windows 7 PC (or use a virtual box)
Map a network drive to a shared folder with a subfolder e.g. c:\test\docs becomes m:\docs
Set security permissions to allow full control to everyone
Add an fdf and a matching pdf file in the subfolder
Manually add m:\docs to each of the trusted folders in the trust manager registry settings
Ensure that Enhanced Security is on
Run a command line to open the fdf file
Expected result:
pdf is opened in Adobe Reader with form fields filled out with data
Actual results:
pdf is opened with blank fields
'Yellow bar' appears asking to add document to trusted locations
It appears that Adobe Reader XI is ignoring the privileged locations entries in the registry. Adding the document via the 'yellow bar' adds the individual document, with the same folder, to the privileged locations but means that the process has to be repeated for every document that needs to be opened from the folder.
I'm on Fedora 14, and OpenOffice 3.3.0 takes a long time to open (about 30 seconds, sometimes less). It isn't a CPU or disk performance issue, it's just simply a very long delay before the program opens. It appears to be a frivolous network connection timing out.
According to Wireshark, it tries to look up:
dulcimer.(none)
which fails, after which it tries to look up:
dulcimer.(none).mylitestream.com
(dulcimer is my hostname, and LiteStream is my ISP)
Is there a way to work around this bug in OpenOffice?
I have a windows 2008 server at home (on a vmware server) along with other virtual machines, I want to open port 80 in my firewall, but I want to redirect the request to the correct vm. for example if the request is http://myserver/SVN I want it to go to my svn vm, if it's for http://myserver/Blog I want to go to another vm.
what's the best approach?
Every time I close Internet Explorer, all temporary files (including cookies) are deleted. IE has a setting for this (Tools Internet Options Advanced Security Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed) but the setting is turned off. I tried cycling it on and off again, with no luck. I can open the Temporary Internet Files folder and watch all the files vanish each time IE closes. How can I get the temporary files to stay where they belong?
When I activate the Advanced features (View - Advanced Features) and open a user's properties by navigating to their OU and right clicking the user object, I see the Attribute Editor tab.
However, if I search for a user (right click the domain - Find - search for the user), and double click on the user, I do not see the tab.
I cannot normally navigate to users because some OUs have too many users. Can someone suggest an alternative that allows me to view the Attribute Editor tab?
Any one have any idea why a remote command to a NetApp filer would fail when using Plink/Putty (to execute a command) across 2 networks?
Everything is open both ways (multiple firewalls), but the filer seems to be responding from port 22 to some random port. So my Windows box on the other side doesn't know to answer because the target port isn't 22.
Any thoughts?
I am often working in a process in the terminal and I've set some variables and used cd and so forth. Then I'd like to open another terminal window from there. Is there any way to do this?
