  • What is an Entity? Why is it called Entity?

    - by rkrauter
    What is the deal with Entities (when talking about the Entity Framework)? From what I understand, it is pretty much an in memory representation of a data store like sql tables. Entities are smart enough to track changes and apply those changes to the data store. Is there anything more to it? Thanks in advance.

  • Debugging in Maven?

    - by aduric
    Is it possible to launch a debugger such as jdb from maven? I have a pom.xml file that compiles the project successfully. However, the program hangs somewhere and I would really like to launch jdb or an equivalent debugger to see what's happening. I compile using mvn compile and launch using: mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="com.mycompany.app.App" I was expecting something like: mvn exec:jdb -Dexec.mainClass="com.mycompany.app.App" to launch the debugger but, as usual, my expectations are incongruent with maven's philosophy. Also, I couldn't find any documentation (on Maven's website or google) to describe how debugging works. I suspect that I have to use some plugin.

  • Creating a Stack Overflow notifier

    - by Trey
    I could not find a Stack Overflow notifier Android app so I am planning on making one. I hope that my app will serve a similar purpose as the Stack Overflow Notifier Chrome extension. This will be my first Android app so I am still unfamiliar with the platform. My main concern when creating this app is, what is the proper way to access the user's Recent Activity page? I thought of two different approaches but I'm not sure how to implement either one: Make the user login to Stack Overflow through the Browser application or an embedded browser and scrape their recent activity page occasionally for updates. Ask the user for their username and password and forward this information to Stack Overflow for authentication, storing cookies somehow to keep the session active. I think Astrid uses something similar to the first approach, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet from skimming their code. What is the correct way to handle a notification application like this that requires session management?

  • Previously working emberjs1.0-pre form on jsfiddle returns "error": "Please use POST request"

    - by brg
    This code ** http://jsfiddle.net/wagenet/ACzaJ/8/ ** was working a few days ago, when i returned to it today, it throws {"error": "Please use POST request"}, when i click add button Also the jsfiddle editor.js always throws exception on this line: function stop(){cc = stop; throw StopIteration;}; Does anyone knows the cause of this issue. Many thanks Update 1 Based on @Peter Wagenet's suggestions below, the form now logs entries or inputs to the console but it doesn't display on the result section of jsfiddle instead what is displayed on jsfiddle result section or page is still this error {"error": "Please use POST request"} ** http://jsfiddle.net/ACzaJ/18/ Update 2 In this fiddle, http://jsfiddle.net/ACzaJ/19/, i have successfully eliminated this error {"error": "Please use POST request"} by adding event.preventDefault(); to the submit action in Todos.TodoFormView. That allows us to use arbitrary view methods as action handlers. The existing issue is that the input to the form, only displays on the console and not on jsfiddle result section, though no error displays on the result section, there is a new error appearing in the console of the updated fiddle: Uncaught Error: Cannot perform operations on a Metamorph that is not in the DOM. Finally solved I needed to comment out App.initialize() for it to work as expected. This the working fiddle ** http://jsfiddle.net/ACzaJ/20/. I don't know why that is so, but my guess is that, App.initialize works with other parts like the router for routing, ApplicationController and ApplicationView with {{outlet}} in the handlebars, which i didn't need for this fiddle. Finally Finally and completely solved This ** http://jsfiddle.net/tQWn8/ works with App.initialize. But you have to declare all those components above and pass the router to App.initialize, like this App..initialize(router). If you don't do this, then you will get the old error Uncaught Error: Cannot perform operations on a Metamorph that is not in the DOM.

  • Using same name for Core Data object as a Private Framework Object

    - by bjorn geez
    Hi all, I've got a core data-based app for iPhone and I'm getting the following warning: objc[2472]: Class Property is implemented in both /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Notes.framework/Notes and /var/mobile/Applications/B69194FF-448F-48AD-A78D-DDB8935F/AmcCalc.app/AmcCalc. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined. When I started working on this app back with SDK 3.0 I didn't get this error, so how do I deal with this? Thanks! Bjorn

  • SQL Server 2000, yes 2000 password hash

    - by Justin808
    I need to store a password has in a SQL server 2000 database. The information isn't critical but I really don't want to store the password in clear text. How can I get a unique hash (sha, sha1, md5, etc) in SQL server 2000 as HashBytes isn't available. I'm not looking for compiled DLL or the ilk, I dont have access to the server, needs to be pure MS SQL.

  • Ajax Enabled WCF Service Javascript issue...

    - by Captain Insano
    I'm a noob working with Ajax-Enabled WCF Services... Right now I have an AJAX service which calls a different WCF service that is using wsHttpBinding. The WCF wsHttpBinding service lives in a different web app on the same IIS6 server. The AJAX javascript proxy is only created when I enable anonymous access on the app hosting the AJAX service. If I remove anonymous access, IE6 bombs with an 'Undefined' error when call the AJAX proxy. In a nut shell, my AJAX service sends a request back to IIS (same domain/app), and while on the server it sends a WCF service request for data on a different app on the same IIS server. The service returning data is setup with Windows authentication, wsHttpBinding, and security mode is set to message. Any ideas? Both apps have are using windows authentication.

  • node.js / socket.io, cookies only working locally

    - by Ben Griffiths
    I'm trying to use cookie based sessions, however it'll only work on the local machine, not over the network. If I remove the session related stuff, it will however work just great over the network... You'll have to forgive the lack of quality code here, I'm just starting out with node/socket etc etc, and finding any clear guides is tough going, so I'm in n00b territory right now. Basically this is so far hacked together from various snippets with about 10% understanding of what I'm actually doing... The error I see in Chrome is: socket.io.js:1632GET http://192.168.0.6:8080/socket.io/1/?t=1334431940273 500 (Internal Server Error) Socket.handshake ------- socket.io.js:1632 Socket.connect ------- socket.io.js:1671 Socket ------- socket.io.js:1530 io.connect ------- socket.io.js:91 (anonymous function) ------- /socket-test/:9 jQuery.extend.ready ------- jquery.js:438 And in the console for the server I see: debug - served static content /socket.io.js debug - authorized warn - handshake error No cookie My server is: var express = require('express') , app = express.createServer() , io = require('socket.io').listen(app) , connect = require('express/node_modules/connect') , parseCookie = connect.utils.parseCookie , RedisStore = require('connect-redis')(express) , sessionStore = new RedisStore(); app.listen(8080, '192.168.0.6'); app.configure(function() { app.use(express.cookieParser()); app.use(express.session( { secret: 'YOURSOOPERSEKRITKEY', store: sessionStore })); }); io.configure(function() { io.set('authorization', function(data, callback) { if(data.headers.cookie) { var cookie = parseCookie(data.headers.cookie); sessionStore.get(cookie['connect.sid'], function(err, session) { if(err || !session) { callback('Error', false); } else { data.session = session; callback(null, true); } }); } else { callback('No cookie', false); } }); }); var users_count = 0; io.sockets.on('connection', function (socket) { console.log('New Connection'); var session = socket.handshake.session; ++users_count; io.sockets.emit('users_count', users_count); socket.on('something', function(data) { io.sockets.emit('doing_something', data['data']); }); socket.on('disconnect', function() { --users_count; io.sockets.emit('users_count', users_count); }); }); My page JS is: jQuery(function($){ var socket = io.connect('http://192.168.0.6', { port: 8080 } ); socket.on('users_count', function(data) { $('#client_count').text(data); }); socket.on('doing_something', function(data) { if(data == '') { window.setTimeout(function() { $('#target').text(data); }, 3000); } else { $('#target').text(data); } }); $('#textbox').keydown(function() { socket.emit('something', { data: 'typing' }); }); $('#textbox').keyup(function() { socket.emit('something', { data: '' }); }); });

  • Determine the 'Overtype' mode using Javascript

    - by Snorkpete
    We are creating a web app to replace an old-school green-screen application. In the green-screen app, as the user presses the Insert key to switch between overtype and insert modes, the cursor changes to indicate which input mode the user is currently in. In IE (which is the official browser of the company), overtype mode also works, but there's no visual indication as to whether overtype mode is on or not, until the user starts typing and possibly over-writes existing information unexpectedly. I'd like to put some sort of visual indicator on the screen if in overtype mode. How can you determine if the browser is in 'overtype mode' from Javascript? Is there some property or function i can query to determine if the browser is in overtype mode? Even an IE-specific solution would be helpful, since our corporate policy dictates the browser to use as IE7 (pure torture, btw). (I do know that one solution is to do check for key presses of the Insert key. However, it's a solution that I'd prefer to avoid since that method seems a bit flaky & error-prone because I can't guarantee what mode the user would be in BEFORE he/she hits my page. ) The reasoning behind this question: The functionality of this portion of the green-screen app is such that the user can select from a list of 'preformatted bodies of text'. crude eg. The excess for this policy is: $xxxxxx and max limit is:$xxxxxx Date of policy is: xx/xx/xxxx and expires : xx/xx/xxxx Some other irrelevant text After selecting this 'preformatted text', the user would then use overtype to replace the x's with actual values, without disturbing the alignment of the rest of the text. (To be clear, they can still edit any part of the 'preformatted text' if they so wished. It's just that usually, they just wish to replace specific portions of the text. Keeping the alignment is important since these sections of text can end up on printed documents.) Of course, the same effect can be achieved by just selecting the x's to replace first, but it would be helpful (with respect to easing the transition to the web app) to allow old methods of doing things to continue to work, while still allowing 'web methods' to be used by the more tech-savvy users. Essentially, we're trying to make the initial transition from the green-screen app to the web app be as seemless as possible to minimise the resistance from the long-time green-screeners.

  • Simple factory to retrieve files using constructor dependency injection

    - by mrblah
    I want to create a class, that is flexible so I can switch implementations. Problem: Store files/documents Options: either store locally on the server filesystem, database or etc. Can someone help with a skeleton structure of the class, and how I would call it? I am not using an IoC, and don't really want to just yet. I just want the flexibility where I would make maybe 1 code change in the factory to call another implementation.

  • NSCollectionView draws nothing

    - by PCWiz
    I'm trying to set up an NSCollectionView (I have done this successfully in the past, but for some reason it fails this time). I have a model class called "TestModel", and it has an NSString property that just returns a string (just for testing purposes right now). I then have an NSMutableArray property declaration in my main app delegate class, and to this array I add instances of the TestModel object. I then have an Array Controller that has its Content Array bound the app delegate's NSMutableArray. I can confirm that everything up to here is working fine; NSLogging: [[[arrayController arrangedObjects] objectAtIndex:0] teststring] worked fine. I then have all the appropriate bindings for the collection view set up, (itemPrototype and content), and for the Collection View Item (view). I then have a text field in the collection item view that is bound to Collection View Item.representedObject.teststring. However NOTHING displays in the collection view when I start the app, just a blank white screen. What am I missing? UPDATE: Here is the code I use (requested by wil shipley): // App delegate class @interface AppController : NSObject { NSMutableArray *objectArray; } @property (readwrite, retain) NSMutableArray *objectArray; @end @implementation AppController @synthesize objectArray; - (id)init { if (self = [super init]) { objectArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } return self; } - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { TestModel *test = [[[TestModel alloc] initWithString:@"somerandomstring"] autorelease]; if (test) [objectArray addObject:test]; } @end // The model class (TestModel) @interface TestModel : NSObject { NSString *teststring; } @property (readwrite, retain) NSString *teststring; - (id)initWithString:(NSString*)customString; @end @implementation TestModel @synthesize teststring; - (id)initWithString:(NSString*)customString { [self setTeststring:customString]; } - (void)dealloc { [teststring release]; } @end And then like I said the content array of the Array Controller is bound to this "objectArray", and the Content of the NSCollectionView is bound to Array Controller.arrangedObjects. I can verify that the Array Controller has the objects in it by NSLogging [arrayController arrangedObjects], and it returns the correct object. Its just that nothing displays in the NSCollectionView. UPDATE 2: If I log [collectionView content] I get nothing: 2009-10-21 08:02:42.385 CollViewTest[743:a0f] ( ) The problem is probably there. UPDATE 3: As requested here is the Xcode project: http://www.mediafire.com/?mjgdzgjjfzw Its a menubar app, so it has no window. When you build and run the app you'll see a menubar item that says "test", this opens the view that contains the NSCollectionView. Thanks

  • Facebook like and share create a fanpage

    - by nblumoe
    We are using the facebook like plugin with the share button. The URL points to a resource of our app. For example http://apps.facebook.com/appname/resources/id The first time this resource/url is shared or liked, everything works fine. The share for example holds the URL given above. But if the same resource/url is shared again, an error occurs. Facebook did create a fanpage for that resource like http://www.facebook.com/pages/appname So from now on, share/likes refer to that page instead of the resource/url of our app. The URL we use for the like plugin is correct and always points to the app resource URL. The fbappid in there is correct, too. Furthermore the page of the resource holds open graph meta tags like og:url, also pointing to the correct URL. The facebook linter/debugger returns URLs to the correct app resource URLs, when checking the liked/shared resource. Why is a fanpage created instead and the URL exchanged in shares/likes? How to fix it? We want the share to include the URL of the app resource and to increase the like count for that open graph object.

  • Android ActivityGroup

    - by Vahag Vardanyan
    I know that ActivityGroup is in the "past", but I want to learn how to use it. So I write a simple TabHost, and want to show different activities using ActivityGroup. Here are the parts of code Player.java package player.org; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.TabActivity; import android.content.Context; import android.content.Intent; import android.content.res.Resources; import android.media.MediaPlayer; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; import android.view.MotionEvent; import android.view.View; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; import android.view.animation.AlphaAnimation; import android.view.animation.Animation; import android.view.animation.AnimationUtils; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.ProgressBar; import android.widget.SeekBar; import android.widget.SeekBar.OnSeekBarChangeListener; import android.widget.TabHost; import android.widget.TabWidget; import android.widget.TextView; public class Player extends TabActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ private MediaPlayer media=null; private SeekBar progress; private View play; private Progress p; TabHost tabhost; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.tabs); Resources res=getResources(); //TabHost tabhost=(TabHost) findViewById(R.id.tabhost); // tabhost.setup(); tabhost=getTabHost(); TabHost.TabSpec spec; Intent intent; intent=new Intent(this,Progress.class); spec=tabhost.newTabSpec("now playing").setIndicator("Now playing", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon)) .setContent(intent); tabhost.addTab(spec); intent=new Intent(this,Group.class); spec=tabhost.newTabSpec("all_songs").setIndicator("All songs", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.songs)) .setContent(intent); tabhost.addTab(spec); //intent=new Intent(this,Progress.class); spec=tabhost.newTabSpec("artists").setIndicator("Artists", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon)) .setContent(intent); tabhost.addTab(spec); spec=tabhost.newTabSpec("alboom").setIndicator("Alboom", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon)) .setContent(intent); tabhost.addTab(spec); tabhost.setCurrentTab(0); } } Group.java import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; public class Group extends ActivityGroup { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceStated) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceStated); View view = getLocalActivityManager().startActivity("AllSongs", new Intent(this, AllSongs.class).addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP)).getDecorView(); setContentView(view); } AllSongs.java package player.org; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.R.id; import android.app.ActivityGroup; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.view.Window; import android.widget.AdapterView; import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TabHost; public class AllSongs extends ListActivity{ ArrayList<String> listItem=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter; ListView listView; //Player p; TabHost tab; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); //p=new Player(); adapter=new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,R.layout.list_item,listItem); setListAdapter(adapter); listView=getListView(); listView.setTextFilterEnabled(true); listView.setOnItemClickListener(listener); addItem("vahag"); addItem("vahagvahag"); } private OnItemClickListener listener=new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Intent intent = new Intent(AllSongs.this,Progress.class); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP); Group group= (Group) getParent(); View view=group.getLocalActivityManager().startActivity("Progress",intent).getDecorView(); setContentView(view); } }; public void addItem(String s) { listItem.add(s); adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } and the Progress.java package player.org; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.ActivityGroup; import android.app.Dialog; import android.app.TabActivity; import android.content.Context; public class Progress extends Activity { // Called when the activity is first created. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); } } So, AllSongs.java try to change current activity with Progress activity, but when I press on list item, the Programm forsed closed, and logChat says "08-17 12:49:26.471: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1500): java.lang.RuntimeException: Your content must have a ListView whose id attribute is 'android.R.id.list'" I can't figure how to fix this problem, Can anyone helps?

  • DWM and painting unresponsive apps

    - by Doug Kavendek
    In Vista and later, if an app becomes unresponsive, the Desktop Window Manager is able to handle redrawing it when necessary (move a window over it, drag it around, etc.) because it has kept a pixel buffer for it. Windows also tries to detect when an app has become unresponsive after some timeout, and tries to make the best of the situation -- I believe it dims out the window, adds "Not Responding" to its title bar, and perhaps some other effects. Now, we have a skinned app that uses window regions and layered windows, and it doesn't play well with these effects. We've been developing on XP, but have noticed a strange effect when testing on Vista. At some points the app may spend a few moments on some calculation or callback, and if it passes the unresponsive threshold (I've read that it's a five second timeout, but I cannot find a link), a strange graphical problem occurs: any pixels that would be 100% transparent due to the window regions turn black, which effectively makes the window rectangular again, with a black background. There seem to be other anomalies, with the original window's pixels being shifted a bit in some child dialogs. I am working on reducing such delays (ideally Windows will never need to step in like this), and trying to maintain responsiveness while it's busy, but I'd still like to figure out what is causing it to render like that, as I can't guarantee I can eliminate all delays. Basically, I just would like to know what Windows is doing when this happens, and how I can make my app behave properly with it. Skinned apps have to still work on Vista and later, so I need to figure out what I'm doing that's non-standard. I don't even know exactly how to look for information into how Windows now handles unresponsive apps, as my searches only return people having issues with apps that are unresponsive, or very rudimentary explanations of what the DWM does with such apps. Heck I'm not even 100% sure it's the DWM responsible, but it seems likely. Any potential leads? Photo of problem; screen shots won't capture the effect (note that the white dialog's buffer is shifted -- it is shifted exactly by the distance it has been offset from the main (blue) window):

  • Eclipse will not show 2.3 emulator for android compatibility package code

    - by Mark Lasby
    I am trying to learn fragments to modernize an app I originally wrote for android 1.5 that uses Date Picker Dialog. I am using the android-support-v4 library. When I run the code in Eclipse Juno 20120614-1722 it only shows android 4.0 emulators and there is a red X beside my Samsung phone running 2.3.5. When I push the package to phone, the code runs. Here is the code FragTestActivity.java package xyz.marklasby.fragtest; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Calendar; import android.app.DatePickerDialog; import android.os.Bundle; import android.support.v4.app.DialogFragment; import android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity; import android.view.View; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.DatePicker; public class FragTestActivity extends FragmentActivity { private Button date; private Calendar now; private SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(" EEE MMM dd/yyyy"); @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); date = (Button) findViewById(R.id.setdate); now = Calendar.getInstance(); date.setText(sdf.format(now.getTime())); date.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { editDate(v); } }); } public void editDate(View v) { DialogFragment newFragment = DatePickerFragment.newInstance(new DatePickerDialog.OnDateSetListener() { @Override public void onDateSet(DatePicker view, int year, int monthOfYear, int dayOfMonth) { now.set(year, monthOfYear, dayOfMonth); date.setText(sdf.format(now.getTime())); } }); newFragment.show(getSupportFragmentManager(), "datePicker"); } } DatePickerFragment.java package xyz.marklasby.fragtest; import java.util.Calendar; import android.app.DatePickerDialog; import android.app.Dialog; import android.os.Bundle; import android.support.v4.app.DialogFragment; public class DatePickerFragment extends DialogFragment { static DatePickerDialog.OnDateSetListener mListener; public static DatePickerFragment newInstance(DatePickerDialog.OnDateSetListener listener) { mListener = listener; return new DatePickerFragment(); } @Override public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) { final Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance(); int year = c.get(Calendar.YEAR); int month = c.get(Calendar.MONTH); int day = c.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); return new DatePickerDialog(getActivity(), mListener, year, month, day); } } Manifest.xml <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="xyz.marklasby.fragtest" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0" > <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" android:targetSdkVersion="15" /> <application android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="@string/app_name" android:theme="@style/AppTheme" > <activity android:name=".FragTestActivity" android:label="@string/title_activity_frag_test" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> </application> </manifest> What am I doing wrong?

  • Apple Push notifications server - Feedback always returns zero tuples

    - by Franz
    Hi, I am developing an iPhone App that uses Apple Push Notifications. On the iPhone side everything is fine, on the server side I have a problem. Notifications are sent correctly however when I try to query the feedback service to obtain a list of devices from which the App has been uninstalled, I always get zero results. I know that I should obtain one result as the App has been uninstalled from one of my test devices. After 24 hours and more I still have no results from the feedback service.. Any ideas? Does anybody know how long it takes for the feedback service to recognize that my App has been uninstalled from my test device? Could it be due to the sandbox environment?
