• Rails: form input type and getting the filename

  Hi, As I am using Ruby on Rails to build an application, which only runs locally, I am lost in the woods (a nuby without a compass). I have a simple MVC application and my view is missing one thing I could really use. I want to select a local file just to retrieve it's filename. I know it's relatively easy to use the form tag helpers for uploading: <%= file_field 'upload', 'datafile' %></p> I wonder how I could get the filename from the selected file, without uploading the file.

I have an link which animates some div-s height when its hovered... but div has big height and it goes beyond the visible bottom end of the screen so i have to scroll to see the data and when i scroll I leave the hover area and so the div toggles it's height to 0px... how to make automatic scroll to the end of the div when it toggles... • contenteditable realtime replace youtube url

  so the problem is, i have a contenteditable div, with a keyup function binded. everytime somebody puts a youtube url in it, it has to be replaced by an embedded movie. i came up with a regex like this : content.match(/http:\/\/\w{0,3}.?youtube+\.\w{2,3}\/watch\?v=.*?(?=\s)/g); firefox wil do the replace after a whitespace, but in ie it won't work. any suggestions? thnx in advance!

  This is what I would like to do. I would like to load content dynamically. Everything except the actual content will be rendered by javascript. I will place all the require information in a javascript variable or array at the bottom of the page. Then I will use javascript to place the content in the designated area. These are the types of things I would like javascript to render: Login menu Header and logo info Side bar info Footer info Dialog popups Ads All of the MEAT content will not be rendered by javascript. I will use the backend server to put the content in html. My logic is that more of the real content will be in HTML and all the other things will be rendered by javascript. Will this help or hurt SEO?

  Im trying to make a table row work as a link to another view in my mvc website. Instead of using the standard "Details" link provided by the auto generated table list, I would like to use the table row as a link to the "Details" view instead. So somehow I need to make the row work as a link. Each rom has a unique id that I need to pass on to the controller method. I have tried different solutions but noting happens when I press on the table row...   i have this code running to load my images all asynch and show a ajax loading image until the real image is downloaded. $('img.loadable-image').css('background', 'transparent url(/images/ajax-loader1.gif) no-repeat center center') $('img.loadable-image').load(function() { $(this).css('background', ''); }); this works in that it shows my ajax loading icon until the images is downloaded but it also shows the background as well here is a screenshot of what i get: as you can see on the left, you see the little ajax loader but also see the missing image square around it. any suggestions?

  I'd like to duplicate the find feature (Ctrl-F in Firefox) for my users. In other words, a text box that as the user types, it finds the first occurrence of that text, and if they press "Next", it highlights the next occurrence and moves the page if necessary. I'm thinking the search input would have to be in a div that remained fixed, and as it found what it was looking for, would insert a named anchor just before it and then follow the hyperlink. Do you think this can be done?

• When page loads display 1st image text - hide all other text

  Hi I have created http://techavid.com/design/test3.html and when you load the page you see there are 3 images. The sun image is focused(in color), while the others are greyed out until clicked. That is how it should be for the images. Also when you load the page you see under each image it's own text(i.e. 1st: Sun, 2nd: Airplane, 3rd: Nano), but on page load I only want 1st:Sun to display and hide all other text until their respective image is clicked. Any idea how to do this? thanks :) J

• Strange CSS Positioning issue with a fader on a responsive site

  I'm developing a prototype responsive wordpress theme version of my homepage. I'm running into issues with the fader on the homepage. http://dev.epicwebdesign.ca/epicblog/ When the image switches, it uses position:absolute to overlay the pictures, then goes back to position:relative. I need to make the absolute be relative to the bottom left corner of the menu instead of the top left corner of #wrap so it doesn't overlap. I tried putting it in a container div like this: http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/contributor-guide/browser#TOC-Absolutely-positioned-box-inside-a-box-with-overflow:-auto-or-hidden but that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? There are major CSS compatibility issues in IE, try it in chrome. It should look similar to http://epicwebdesign.ca. When the browser window is shrunk horizontially, the whole theme compensates.

  I want to execute an ajax call as soon as a document is loaded. What I am doing is loading a string that contains data that I will use for an autocomplete feature. This is what I have done, but it is not calling the servlet. I have removed the calls to the various JS scripts to make it clearer.
