  • How to prevent users to change url parameter in PHP?

    - by Sachin
    I am developing a site where I am sending parameters like ids by url. I have used urlencode and base64encode to encode the parameters. My problem is that how can I prevent the users or hackers to play with url paramenters Or give access only if the parameter value is exist in database? I have at least 2 and at most 5 parameter in url so is this feasible to check every parameter is exist in database on every page? Thanks

  • Use count or have a field that tallies?

    - by Dan LaManna
    Fairly simple concept, making an extremely basic message board system and I want users to have a post count. Now I was debating on whether or not to have a tally in their row that is added each time a post by them is created, or subtracted by one each time a post of theirs is deleted. However I'm sure that performing a count query when the post count is requested would be more accurate due to unforseen circumstances (say a thread gets deleted and it doesn't lower their tally properly), however this seems like it would be less efficient to run a query EVERY time their post count is loaded, especially in the case of them having 10 posts on the same page and it lists their post count each post. Thoughts/Advice? Thanks

  • I want to add and remove items from a menu with PHP.

    - by CDeanMartin
    This menu will need to be updated daily. <html><head></head><body> <h1> Welcome to Burgerama </h1> <?php include("menuBuilder.php"); showBurgerMenu(); ?> </body></html> Menu items are stored in the database. Items have a display field; if it is on, the item should be displayed on the menu. The menu only displays 4 or 5 "specials" at a time, and the manager needs to change menu items easily. I want to make a menu editing page like this: <?php include("burger_queries.php"); dbconnect("burger_database"); foreach($menuItem in burger_database) { echo createToggleButton($menuItem); } ?> .. with a toggle button for each menu item. Ideally the button will be labeled with the menu item, in blue if the item is "on", and red if the item is "off." Clicking the button switches between "on" and "off" I am stuck trying to a get a button to execute an UPDATE query on its corresponding menu item.

  • How can I get all children from a parent row in the same table?

    - by Johnny Freeman
    Let's say I have a table called my_table that looks like this: id | name | parent_id 1 | Row 1 | NULL 2 | Row 2 | NULL 3 | Row 3 | 1 4 | Row 4 | 1 5 | Row 5 | NULL 6 | Row 6 | NULL 7 | Row 7 | 8 8 | Row 8 | NULL 9 | Row 9 | 4 10 | Row 10 | 4 Basically I want my final array in PHP to look like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [name] => Row 1 [children] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [name] => Row 3 [children] => ) [1] => Array ( [name] => Row 4 [children] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [name] => Row 9 [children] => ) [1] => Array ( [name] => Row 10 [children] => ) ) ) ) ) [1] => Array ( [name] => Row 2 [children] => ) [2] => Array ( [name] => Row 5 [children] => ) [3] => Array ( [name] => Row 6 [children] => ) [4] => Array ( [name] => Row 8 [children] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [name] => Row 7 [children] => ) ) ) ) So, I want it to get all of the rows where parent_id is null, then find all nested children recursively. Now here's the part that I'm having trouble with: How can this be done with 1 call to the database? I'm sure I could do it with a simple select statement and then have PHP make the array look like this but I'm hoping this can be done with some kind of fancy db joining or something like that. Any takers?

  • Can't use method return value in write context; Not sure where to go from here

    - by Morgan Green
    This is my source for the variable. <?php if ($admin->get_permissions()=3) echo 'Welcome to the Admin Panel'; else echo 'Sorry, You do not have access to this page'; ?> And the code that I'm actually trying to call with the if statement is: public function get_permissions() { $username = $_SESSION['admin_login']; global $db; $info = $db->get_row("SELECT `permissions` FROM `user` WHERE `username` = '" . $db->escape($username) . "'"); if(is_object($info)) return $info->permissions; else return ''; } This should be a simple way to call my pages that the user is authorized for by using an else if statement. Or So I thought

  • Is there a way to echo this only once and not have it repeat?

    - by Fernando
    I have the following query: $select = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM posts WHERE id = $postIds"); while ($return = mysql_fetch_assoc($select)) { $postUrl = $return['url']; $postTitle = $return['title']; echo "<h1><a href='$postUrl'>".$postTitle."</a></h1>"; } Now the problem is, the variable $postIds often times contain the same id multiple times. So the title of the post echos itself multiple times. Is there a way to have it echo only once?

  • Error handling in controllers with MVC

    - by twrn
    Does it make sense to do error handling and logging inside actions methods or handle the OnException method inside the controllers. One way means writing try/catches in all the action methods even when there is nothing to be done to recover from the error. Handling this at the controller level would allow logging and redirection to an error handler page without writing try/catches inside all the action methods. Which method makes the most sense? Here is example code of try/catches in an action method. [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(int id) { using (new Tracer("Project Controller")) { try { Logger.Write("Deleting project"); projService.DeleteProject(id); TempData["message"] = "Project Deleted successfully"; } catch (System.Exception ex) { HandleException(ex, "Project could not be deleted."); } return RedirectToAction("List"); } }

  • where to store information like gender and year of birth?

    - by fayer
    i have users and i need them to specify a gender (male, female) and year of birth (1930, 1931...1999, 2000). i wonder where i should store these values: in the database? in php file? if i store them in the database i have to manually create all entries first. but a good thing is that the user table will have constraints so the gender field will always be male or female, it cannot be something else. if i store them in the php file (eg. as html) then i can easily add/remove values. but a con is that i dont have the constraints in database, so another value could be stored as gender by mistake, even though i could add validation in php backend so even if someone hacked the html it is not stored unless it's either male or female. what is best practice to do this? thanks

  • Fetching a result twice with deferend name

    - by user1799842
    I have 1 table with tasks named opentask:columns: id,title,description,expires,creator_id,creator_name, executer_id, executer_name, priority_id, status_id1 table with users named user: with columns: user_id, username What I want is to create a query where there will be all columns from opentask table where the executer_id will be equal to the user_id of user table AND the creator_id will be equal to the user_id again. This creates a confusion because the first equality excludes the second.So I need somehow to create a query where I will include the usernames for the executer with something like where "opentask.executer_id=user_user_id" and at the same time I will include the username again (as a differend name?) for the creator with something like "where opentask.executer_id=user_user_id"So I try this, which of course I know that is missing something, can you help? SELECT DISTINCT id, title, description, expires, creator_id, executer_id, oc_opentask.priority_id, oc_opentask.status_id, priority_name, status_name, user_id, username, (SELECT username FROM oc_opentask, oc_user WHERE oc_opentask.creator_id=oc_user.user_id) AS username2 FROM oc_opentask, oc_opentask_priority, oc_user, oc_opentask_status WHERE oc_opentask.priority_id=oc_opentask_priority.priority_id AND oc_opentask.executer_id=oc_user.user_id AND oc_opentask.status_id=oc_opentask_status.status_id ORDER BY oc_opentask.expires DESC

MFC apps must not #include <windows.h> What am I missing here? Thanks. PS: I am using Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition in Windows XP SP2.

  • Complex multiple join query across 3 tables

    - by Keir Simmons
    I have 3 tables: shops, PRIMARY KEY cid,zbid shop_items, PRIMARY KEY id shop_inventory, PRIMARY KEY id shops a is related to shop_items b by the following: a.cid=b.cid AND a.zbid=b.szbid shops is not directly related to shop_inventory shop_items b is related to shop_inventory c by the following: b.cid=c.cid AND b.id=c.iid Now, I would like to run a query which returns a.* (all columns from shops). That would be: SELECT a.* FROM shops a WHERE a.cid=1 AND a.zbid!=0 Note that the WHERE clause is necessary. Next, I want to return the number of items in each shop: SELECT a.*, COUNT(b.id) items FROM shops a LEFT JOIN shop_items b ON b.cid=a.cid AND b.szbid=a.zbid WHERE a.cid=1 GROUP BY b.szbid,b.cid As you can see, I have added a GROUP BY clause for this to work. Next, I want to return the average price of each item in the shop. This isn't too hard: SELECT a.*, COUNT(b.id) items, AVG(COALESCE(b.price,0)) average_price FROM shops a LEFT JOIN shop_items b ON b.cid=a.cid AND b.szbid=a.zbid WHERE a.cid=1 GROUP BY b.szbid,b.cid My next criteria is where it gets complicated. I also want to return the unique buyers for each shop. This can be done by querying shop_inventory c, getting the COUNT(DISTINCT c.zbid). Now remember how these tables are related; this should only be done for the rows in c which relate to an item in b which is owned by the respective shop, a. I tried doing the following: SELECT a.*, COUNT(b.id) items, AVG(COALESCE(b.price,0)) average_price, COUNT(DISTINCT c.zbid) FROM shops a LEFT JOIN shop_items b ON b.cid=a.cid AND b.szbid=a.zbid LEFT JOIN shop_inventory c ON c.cid=b.cid AND c.iid=b.id WHERE a.cid=1 GROUP BY b.szbid,b.cid However, this did not work as it messed up the items value. What is the proper way to achieve this result? I also want to be able to return the total number of purchases made in each shop. This would be done by looking at shop_inventory c and adding up the c.quantity value for each shop. How would I add that in as well?

  • Perl Script to search and replace in .SQL query file with user inputs

    - by T.Mount
    I have a .SQL file containing a large number of queries. They are being run against a database containing data for multiple states over multiple years. The machine I am running this on can only handle running the queries for one state, in one year, at a time. I am trying to create a Perl script that takes user input for the state abbreviation, the state id number, and the year. It then creates a directory for that state and year. Then it opens the "base" .SQL file and searches and replaces the base state id and year with the user input, and saves this new .SQL file to the created directory. The current script I have (below) stops at open(IN,'<$infile') with "Can't open [filename]" It seems that it is having difficulty finding or opening the .SQL file. I have quadruple-checked to make sure the paths are correct, and I have even tried replacing the $path with an absolute path for the base file. If it was having trouble with creating the new file I'd have more direction, but since it can't find/open the base file I do not know how to proceed. #!/usr/local/bin/perl use Cwd; $path = getcwd(); #Cleans up the path $path =~ s/\\/\//sg; #User inputs print "What is the 2 letter state abbreviation for the state? Ex. 'GA'\n"; $stlet = <>; print "What is the 2 digit state abbreviation for the state? Ex. '13'\n"; $stdig = <>; print "What four-digit year are you doing the calculations for? Ex. '2008'\n"; $year = <>; chomp $stlet; chomp $stdig; chomp $year; #Creates the directory mkdir($stlet); $new = $path."\/".$stlet; mkdir("$new/$year"); $infile = '$path/Base/TABLE_1-26.sql'; $outfile = '$path/$stlet/$year/TABLE_1-26.sql'; open(IN,'<$infile') or die "Can't open $infile: $!\n"; open(OUT,">$infile2") or die "Can't open $outfile: $!\n"; print "Working..."; while (my $search = <IN>) { chomp $search; $search =~ s/WHERE pop.grp = 132008/WHERE pop.grp = $stdig$year/g; print OUT "$search\n"; } close(IN); close(OUT); I know I also probably need to tweak the regular expression some, but I'm trying to take things one at a time. This is my first Perl script, and I haven't really been able to find anything that handles .SQL files like this that I can understand. Thank you!
