  • Dart Can't get logging statements to compile

    - by Nate Lockwood
    I'm trying to learn how to implement logging using the examples/tutorial in: http://blog.dartwatch.com/2013/05/campaign-to-use-real-logging-instead-of.html#comment-form But having imported the libraries this line in main will not compile because the class 'PrintHandler' is not recognized and Google has not been a help in this case. My server application consists of a main and three classes. I'm new at Dart. Below I've extracted the logging code that I added. In what library is 'PrintHandler'? Is this a class I need to write? library server; import 'package:logging_handlers/logging_handlers_shared.dart'; import 'package:logging/logging.dart'; final _serverLogger = new Logger("server"); // top level logger void main() { Logger.root.onRecord.listen(new PrintHandler()); // default PrintHandler _serverLogger.fine("Server created"); } class A { } class B { } class C { }

  • JPA EclipseLink Auditing for Oracle issue with SessionCustomizer...

    - by enrique
    I was trying to use the SessionCustomizer for auditing with v$session.program for oracle and it works with JDBC but i need it working with JPA, so i read a bit more the documentation for SESSION_CUSTOMIZER in this site: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Using_EclipseLink_JPA_Extensions_(ELUG)#EclipseLink_JPA_Persistence_Unit_Properties_for_Customization_and_Validation but had not lucky in making it work in passing the program name parameter to oracle with the v$session.program... i was using the SessionCustomizer and it is an interface so my code is as follows: package com.util; import org.eclipse.persistence.config.SessionCustomizer; import org.eclipse.persistence.sessions.Session; /** * * @author xkalibur */ public class ProgramCustomizer implements SessionCustomizer{ public void customize(Session s) throws Exception { s.getDatasourceLogin().setProperty("v$session.program","Customers"); } } then in CustomerFacade : ProgramCustomizer pc=new ProgramCustomizer(); public void edit(Customer customer) { emProperties.put(PersistenceUnitProperties.SESSION_CUSTOMIZER,pc); em=factory.createEntityManager(emProperties); em.merge(customer); } and returns the following error: javax.ejb.EJBException Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.facades.CustomerFacade.edit(CustomerFacade.java:48) please some help...

  • What's the silliest programming mistake you've ever done? [closed]

    - by bgo
    Despite not being a professional programmer, i use python or c to accomplish simple tasks. Once I needed a nasty equation to use with various data for physics lab. I thought that it would take a few hours if i used some mechanic calculator. Then i've written a python script to make things easier but something was wrong. After finding my mistakes one of which was forgetting to put ":", i realized that it had already took 2-3 hours, not to mention inventing satanic arithmetic techniques since i thought the errors was caused by my math :) Sometimes when you don't see it, you don't see it! Now i can find the syntax errors without thinking for a moment :) Any similar annoying mistakes that you've experienced?

  • How to use sound and images in a Java applet?

    - by Click Upvote
    Question 1: How should I structure my project so the sound and images files can be loaded most easily? Right now, I have the folder: C:\java\pacman with the sub-directory C:\java\pacman\src containing all the code, and C:\java\pacman\assets containing the images and .wav files. Is this the best structure or should I put the assets somewhere else? Question 2: What's the best way to refer to the images/sounds without using the full path e.g C:\java\pacman\assets\something.png to them? If I use the getCodeBase() function it seems to refer to the C:\java\pacman\bin instead of C:\java\pacman\. I want to use such a function/class which would work automatically when i compile the applet in a jar as well as right now when I test the applet through eclipse. Question 3: How should I load the images/sounds? This is what I'm using now: 1) For general images: import java.awt.Image; public Image getImg(String file) { //imgDir in this case is a hardcoded string containing //"C:\\java\\pacman\\assets\\" file=imgDir + file; return new ImageIcon(file).getImage(); } The images returned from this function are used in the drawImage method of the Graphics class in the paint method of the applet. 2) For a buffered image, which is used to get subImages and load sprites from a sprite sheet: public BufferedImage getSheet() throws IOException { return ImageIO.read(new File(img.getPath("pacman-sprites.png"))); } Later: public void loadSprites() { BufferedImage sheet; try { sheet=getSheet(); redGhost.setNormalImg(sheet.getSubimage(0, 60, 20, 20)); redGhost.setUpImg(sheet.getSubimage(0, 60, 20, 20)); redGhost.setDownImg(sheet.getSubimage(30, 60, 20, 20)); redGhost.setLeftImg(sheet.getSubimage(30, 60, 20, 20)); redGhost.setRightImg(sheet.getSubimage(60, 60, 20, 20)); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println("Couldnt open file!"); System.out.println(e.getLocalizedMessage()); } } 3) For sound files: import sun.audio.*; import java.io.*; public synchronized void play() { try { InputStream in = new FileInputStream(filename); AudioStream as = new AudioStream(in); AudioPlayer.player.start(as); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } }

  • String Occurance Counting Algorithm

    - by Hellnar
    Hello, I am curious what is the most efficient algorithm (or commonly used) to count the number of occurances of a string in a chunck of text. From what I read, Boyer–Moore string search algorithm is the standard for string search but I am not sure if counting occurance in an efficient way would be same as searching a string. In python this is what I want: text_chunck = "one two three four one five six one" occurance_count(text_chunck, "one") # gives 3. Regards EDIT: It seems like python str.count serves me such method however I am not able to find what algorithm it uses.

I've go java function stored in Oracle system which is supposed to copy image from local drive do remote database and store it in BLOB - it's called CopyBLOB and looks like this: import java.sql.*; import oracle.sql.*; import java.io.*; public class CopyBLOB { static int id; static String fileName = null; static Connection conn = null; public CopyBLOB(int idz, String f) { id = idz; fileName = f; } public static void copy(int ident, String path) throws SQLException, FileNotFoundException { CopyBLOB cpB = new CopyBLOB(ident, path); cpB.getConnection(); cpB.callUpdate(id, fileName); } public void getConnection() throws SQLException { DriverManager.registerDriver (new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver()); try { conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@oraserv.ms.mff.cuni.cz:1521:db", "xxx", "xxx"); } catch (SQLException sqlex) { System.out.println("SQLException while getting db connection: "+sqlex); if (conn != null) conn.close(); } catch (Exception ex) { System.out.println("Exception while getting db connection: "+ex); if (conn != null) conn.close(); } } public void callUpdate(int id, String file ) throws SQLException, FileNotFoundException { CallableStatement cs = null; try { conn.setAutoCommit(false); File f = new File(file); FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(f); cs = (CallableStatement) conn.prepareCall( "begin add_image(?,?); end;" ); cs.setInt(1, id ); cs.setBinaryStream(2, fin, (int) f.length()); cs.execute(); conn.setAutoCommit(true); } catch ( SQLException sqlex ) { System.out.println("SQLException in callUpdateUsingStream method of given status : " + sqlex.getMessage() ); } catch ( FileNotFoundException fnex ) { System.out.println("FileNotFoundException in callUpdateUsingStream method of given status : " + fnex.getMessage() ); } finally { try { if (cs != null) cs.close(); if (conn != null) conn.close(); } catch ( Exception ex ) { System.out.println("Some exception in callUpdateUsingStream method of given status : " + ex.getMessage( ) ); } } } } The wrapper function is defined in package "MyPackage" as folows: procedure image_adder( id varchar2, path varchar2 ) AS language java name 'CopyBLOB.copy(java.lang.String, java.lang.String)'; And the inserting function called image_add is as simple as this: procedure add_image( id numeric(10), pic blob) AS BEGIN insert into pictures values (seq_pic.nextval, id, pic); END add_image; Now the problem: When I type call MyPackage.image_adder(1, 'd:\samples\img.jpg'); I get the ORA-29531 Error: No method copy in class CopyBLOB. Can you help me, please?

  • Behavior of nested finally in Exceptions

    Hello: Today at work, I had to review a code snippet that looks similar to this mock example. package test; import java.io.IOException; import org.apache.log4j.Logger; public class ExceptionTester { public static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(ExceptionTester.class); public void test() throws IOException { new IOException(); } public static void main(String[] args) { ExceptionTester comparator = new ExceptionTester(); try { try { comparator.test(); } finally { System.out.println("Finally 1"); } } catch(IOException ex) { logger.error("Exception happened" ex); // also close opened resources } System.out.println("Exiting out of the program"); } } It's printing the following output.I expected an compile error since the inner try did not have a catch block. Finally 1 Exiting out of the program I do not understand why IOException is caught by the outer catch block. I would appreciate if anyone can explain this, especially by citing stack unwinding process

  • iPhone UIImage Display Controller

    - by Bill Shiff
    Hello, I would like to be able to display a UIImage from within my app and support a lot of the functionality available in the built-in Photos app (i.e., pinch-to-zoom, pan, etc). I don't really want to write a bunch of code that someone has already written, so I'm wondering if there is a library out there already that I could just import into my project. I'm aware of the Three20 project, but I don't want to import a huge library if I don't have to. Is anyone aware of an available library that's already out there for displaying UIImages? Or part of some open-source project that can be pulled out on its own? Thanks!

  • Custom Output => List of Errors interpretation in VS2008 IDE.

    - by Hamish Grubijan
    Hello, I have a "database solution" project in VS2008 - it generates SQL for more than one DB vendor from some sort of templates. In order to save time, I also have a tool in VS2008 configured (a Python script), which can compile an individual stored procedure. Now, with the Python script I have the freedom of processing the output and have it take on whatever form I want. I am toying with an idea of having these errors and warnings somehow recognized and populating the click-able Error / Warning list. This is what a typical Oracle error looks like: LINE/COL ERROR -------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- 324/5 PL/SQL: Statement ignored 324/82 PLS-00363: expression 'VSOURCE_SYSTEM_ID' cannot be used as an assignment target Warning: Procedure created with compilation errors. PROCEDURE: ADD_PROPOSED error on creation Errors for PROCEDURE ADD_PROPOSED: LINE/COL ERROR This might be a long shot, but it is worthwhile for me. I do this stuff a lot. Thank you!

  • Printing Two Dimensional Array in Special Format

    - by user554313
    Hello everybody, I am working in a small task that allow the user to enter the regions of any country and store them in one array. Also, each time he enters a region, the system will ask him to enter the neighbours of that entered region and store these neighbours. I did the whole task but I have a small problem: I could not be able to print each region and its neighbours like the following format: Region A: neighbour1 neighbour2 Region B: neighbour1 neighbour2 For example, let us take USA map. I want to print the result as following: Washington D.C: Texas, Florida, Oregon and so on. My code is: import java.io.*; import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.Scanner; public class Test7{public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner kb = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.print("Please enter the number of regions: "); int REGION_COUNT = kb.nextInt(); String[] regionNames = new String[REGION_COUNT]; String[][] regions = new String[REGION_COUNT][2]; for (int r = 0; r < regions.length; r++) { System.out.print("Please enter the name of region #" + (r + 1) + ": "); regionNames[r] = kb.next(); System.out .print("How many neighbors for region #" + (r + 1) + ": "); if (kb.hasNextInt()) { int size = kb.nextInt(); regions[r] = new String[size]; for (int n = 0; n < size; n++) { System.out.print("Please enter the neighbour #" + (n) + ": "); regions[r][n] = kb.next(); } } else System.exit(0); } for (int i = 0; i < REGION_COUNT; i++) { System.out.print(regionNames[i] +": "); for (int k = 0; k < 2; k++) { System.out.print(regions[i][k]+", "); } System.out.println(); } } }

  • What advantages can I get from learning C++ if I'm mainly a C# Programmer?

    - by Sergio Tapia
    Hello, Recently I've started to notice a lot of smirks and generally rude comments whenever I mention C#. Everyone I talk to either says learn Python or learn C++. Python is a nice language, I get it. But I don't find much use for it right now (for my use cases), and C++ I heard is a faster language (not sure). So my question is this, what advantage can I get from learning C++ (besides the knowledge and expansion of my horizons), when I mainly program in C#. If anyone can make a legitimate claim, I'll for sure look into learning the language because let's face it, I trust you guys. Thanks so much for all the help.

  • Eclipse - Ouline View - Turn Off Filtering

    - by Ibolit
    Hi. I recently installed Eclipse on my new computer, and this installation somewhat filters the class members. I think it is somehow related to the Outline, but i couldn't find any settings related to it. The thing is that when i, for example, have an error in a method, and click on the little red square on the margin, eclipse shows me only that method, and nothing else. When i then click on the class name in the outline panel, eclipse shows me the class without import declarations. I can, of course, click on the import declarations in the outline panel, but then i get only them. When I want to jump to the declaration of some method by command-clicking that method's name, I again get only that method on the screen. It is really annoying. Can anyone please help me fix it? Best regards,Timofey.

  • Java Or C++ Or What???

    - by Kronass
    Hi, My friends and I are starting a new project and we are shifting from windows to linux (for some reasons) and all of us are .Net background. for the new platform I decided to go with Java since many parts are similar with .Net but my friend is insisting on C++ saying it is much faster very mature and working with it will not effect on the productivity and development speed. The project that we will work on it will have threading, extensive string and datetime manipulation, some socket programing and of-course work with RDBMS (MySql Or Postgre not decided yet). I have some fears with java since oracle acquired sun and these people will do anything to make money out of it. some have advised in python and ruby and I like python but don't know should I make it the default language in this project. the project is not web application and we will make services and executables. what do you think, if you have other opinion you very welcome. Hint: Mono is not an option

  • How to get the field name of a java (weak) reference pointing to an object in an other class?

    - by Tom
    Imagine I have the following situation: Test1.java import java.lang.ref.WeakReference; public class Test1 { public WeakReference fieldName; public init() { fieldName = new WeakReference(this); Test2.setWeakRef(fieldName); } } Test2.java import java.lang.ref.WeakReference; public class Test2 { public static setWeakRef(WeakReference weakRef) { //at this point I got weakRef in an other class.. now, how do I get the field name this reference was created with? So that it returns exactly "fieldName", because that's the name I gave it in Test1.java? } } At the location of the comment I received the weak reference created in an other class. How would I retreive the field name that this weak reference was created with, in this case "fieldName"? Thanks in advance.

  • Please explain class methods

    - by user1209902
    I'm finding it difficult to understand when it is necessary to create class methods. From what I've read, they are important for creating new objects, but I do not see how. The following class create a simple shape black rectangle. Can anyone show me how to incorporate a class method to do something that I could not do with an instance method? Shape.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface Shape : UIView; - (id) initWithX: (int)xVal andY: (int)yVal; @end Shape.m #import "Shape.h" @implementation Shape - (id) initWithX:(int )xVal andY:(int)yVal { self = [super init]; UIView *shape = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(xVal, yVal, 10, 10)]; shape.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; [self addSubview:shape]; return self; } @end
