• Mixed surrogate composite key insert in JPA 2.0, PostgreSQL and Hibernate 3.5

  First off, we are using JPA 2.0 and Hibernate 3.5 as persistence provider on a PostgreSQL database. We successfully use the sequence of the database via the JPA 2.0 annotations as an auto-generated value for single-field-surrogate-keys and all works fine. Now we are implementing a bi-temporal database-scheme that requires a mixed key in the following manner: Table 1: id (pk, integer, auto-generated-sequence) validTimeBegin (pk, dateTime) validTimeEnd (dateTime) firstName (varChar) Now we have a problem. You see, if we INSERT a new element, the field id is auto-generated and that's fine. So my question is: Is there a way to tell hibernate via JPA to stop auto-generating the id-field in the case I want to generate a new variety of the same person and go on as usual in every other case or do I have to take over the whole id-generation with custom code? • Correcting CS0009 Error When Creating Integration Services Project

  Tried to open an SSIS project I had been working on today and received this lovely error: Unable to generate temporary class (result=1) error CS0009: Metadata file 'c:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Xml\2.0.0.0_b77a5c561934e089\System.XML.dll' could not be opened -- 'No metadata was found.' Anyone know why this happens and how to correct it, I've Googled and haven't found any valid solutions relating directly to SSIS. It is only happening with BIDS 2008 and SSIS project types and I tried the same packages (as well as creating a new one) on my other machine and it was fine. Any ideas? Thank you.

  I created a database with aspnet_regsql, the database was created in sql sever 2008 and not in data folder in my project (do I need to move it to the folder manually?). Next, in Web Site Administration Tool I went to provider section and clicked don Test button. I got an error: Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. Maybe I need to set something in a web.config, like membership settings or connection strings (or ASP.NET Website Administrator Tool should create those settings for me)? Update: Maybe it happens because I am using SQL server 2008 full and not express? Update 2: After setting membership section and connection string to my aspnetdb database in Web Site Administration Tool I've opened security-Security Setup Wizard-Define Roles (stage 4) I got this error: An error was encountered. • Faster way to transfer table data from linked server

  After much fiddling, I've managed to install the right ODBC driver and have successfully created a linked server on SQL Server 2008, by which I can access my PostgreSQL db from SQL server. • MVC2 Apps (and others) sharing WCF services and authentication

  Hi, I've seen several similar scenarios explained here but not my particular one. I wonder if someone could tell me which direction to go in? I am developing two (and more later) MVC2 apps. There will also be another (thicker) client later on (WPF or Silverlight, TBD). These all need to share the same authentication. For the MVC2 apps they (preferably) need to be single log on - ie if a user logs in to one MVC2 app, they should be authorised on the other, as long as the cookie hasn't timed out. Forms authentication is to be used. All the apps need to use common business functionality and perform db access via a common WCF Service App. It would be nice (I think) if the WCF is not publicly accessible (ie blocked behind FW). The thicker client could use an additional service layer to access the Common WCF App. What this should look like is: MVCApp1 - WCFAppCommon MVCApp2 - WCFAppCommon ThickClient - WCFApp2 - WCFAppCommon Is it possible to carry out all the authentication/authorization in the WCFAppCommon? Otherwise I think I'll have to repeat all the security logic in the MVCApps and WCFApp2, whereas, to me, it seems to sit naturally in WCFAppCommon. On the otherhand, it seems if I authenticate/authorize in WCFAppCommon, I wouldn't be able to use Forms Authentication. Where I've seen possible solutions (that I haven't tried yet) they seem much more complex than Forms Authentication and a single DB. Any help appreciated, Phil

• why is there no interface file with silverlight enabled wcf services

  Using Visual Studio 2010 when creating a wcf service the template creates a class file, svc endpoint and an interface file. Why is it that when adding a silverlight-enabled wcf service they don't follow this pattern. As discussed here this seems like a bad idea. After adding the silverlight-enabled service, should one go back and incorporate the interface as discussed in the referenced article. If so, then would it not be as simple to start with a simple WCF service, bypassing the whole "silverlight-enabled" bits altogether.

  I'm passing the Folder.Id.UniqueId property of a folder retrieved from a FindFolders query via the query string to another page. On this second page I want to use that UniqueId to bind to the folder to list its mail items: string parentFolderId = Request.QueryString["id"]; ... Folder parentFolder = Folder.Bind(exchangeService, parentFolderId); // do something with parent folder When I run this code it throws an exception telling me the Id is manlformed. I thought maybe it needs to be wrapped in a FolderId object: Folder parentFolder = Folder.Bind(exchangeService, new FolderId(parentFolderId)); Same issue. I've been searching for a while, and have found some suggestions about Base64/UTF8 conversion, but again that did not solve the problem. Anyone know how to bind to a folder with a given unique id?

  Hello, My boss just asked me to buy a new server for our office network. I know next to nothing about servers and networking, so I need someone to point me in the right direction. He said he wants this to be our e-mail server with a network login. I have no idea how to set up an e-mail server, especially one that sends/receives e-mail using our domain name. We use a terrible piece of order/inventory software called Mail Order Manager (MOM). Our computers currently connect to the MOM database through a networked drive. My boss would like to move away from this peer-to-peer MOM setup. The software publisher offers a SQL version of MOM, but it's way overpriced. Is there a better way to connect to these databases without using the SQL version? Finally, the server needs to be running Windows. Does this question make sense, is it possible, and can someone help me get started? Thanks!

  I am trying to profile a WCF service using visual studio profiler. So i created a profile by choosing asp.net application, and gave it the url of the web service. When i launch the session, it launches a web page to the site. I then run my unit test using another visual studio client, but the test always fails with with communication exception, and the process that performance analyze is attached to exits out. if i run the test again, it attached the process again, but the tests still fails with communication exception. This is throwing my report off since its only accounting for the startup work that the application is supposed to do. can someone point out what i am doing wrong ?

  The typical controls against SQL injection flaws are to use bind variables (cfqueryparam tag), validation of string data and to turn to stored procedures for the actual SQL layer. This is all fine and I agree, however what if the site is a legacy one and it features a lot of dynamic queries. Then, rewriting all the queries is a herculean task and it requires an extensive period of regression and performance testing. I was thinking of using a dynamic SQL filter and calling it prior to calling cfquery for the actual execution. • Using Audio Queue Services to play PCM data over a socket connection

  I'm writing a remote desktop client for the iPhone and I'm trying to implement audio redirection. The client is connected to the server over a socket connection, and the server sends 32K chunks of PCM data at a time. I'm trying to use AQS to play the data and it plays the first two seconds (1 buffer worth). However, since the next chunk of data hasn't come in over the socket yet, the next AudioQueueBuffer is empty. When the data comes in, I fill the next available buffer with the data and enqueue it with AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer. However, it never plays these buffers. Does the queue stop playing if there are no buffers in the queue, even if you later add a buffer?   I'm signed up, I've downloaded sample code, I've got a WSDL...and yet I have no idea how to get this stuff into my existing .Net application. The WSDL was in a zip file, not a URL so I can't just "Add Web Reference." I've run the wsdl tool from the .Net command prompt, and it made a nice class for me...yet dropping that into my web_reference folder doesn't give me any kind of instantiatable class. I know I'm missing something stupid. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

• Login From Multiple Services, Keeping Profiles in Sync

  Given the following: I have an application that allows people to login through twitter, myspace, yahoo, and google User creates initial account by logging in through Google User logs out User logs back in using Yahoo. ...is there a recommended way for the application to associate those two accounts together? Stack Overflow has this functionality but it seems like they need the user to manually say "this account google account is associated with that yahoo one". Is there no way to do this automatically?

• Problem with MS DTC on SQL2008 win server 2k8 with linked server from sql2000 win server 2k

  Hi, We have migrated our db from sql2000 win server 2k to sql2008 win server 2k8. We have linked server from sql2000 win server 2k. By our opinion the problem is with DTC and we have made a lot of setting that we found as solution for our problem, but still the problem exist. There is no any error or worning or information niether in the sql log nor in win event viewer. The application is hanging out and at the end the time out exception is shown. What we have done till now: Enable Network DTC Access with inbound and outbound with No Authentication Required on win 2k8 We have opened RPC dynamic port allocation through registry on 2k and 2k8 We have entered subkey TurnOffRpcSecurity in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC and made it enable on 2k and 2k8 We have added exception for DTC in firewall for all entities What we have notice that when we restart SQL service and make the first try for our transaction the following is shown: "Attempting to initialize Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC). This is an informational message only. No user action is required." and after it: "Recovery of any in-doubt distributed transactions involving Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) has completed. This is an informational message only. No user action is required." Does someone have any idea what else can be done in order to solve the problem? Thanks in advance. Regards, Snezana

• How do I grant a database role execute permissions on a schema? What am I doing wrong?

  I am using SQL Server 2008 Express edition. I have created a Login , User, Role and Schema. I have mapped the user to the login, and assigned the role to the user. The schema contains a number of tables and stored procedures. I would like the Role to have execute permissions on the entire schema. I have tried granting execute permission through management studio and through entering the command in a query window. GRANT EXEC ON SCHEMA::schema_name TO role_name But When I connect to the database using SQL management studio (as the login I have created) firstly I cannot see the stored procedures, but more importantly I get a permission denied error when attempting to run them. The stored procedure in question does nothing except select data from a table within the same schema. I have tried creating the stored procedure with and without the line: WITH EXECUTE AS OWNER This doesn't make any difference. I suspect that I have made an error when creating my schema, or there is an ownership issue somewhere, but I am really struggling to get something working. The only way I have successfully managed to execute the stored procedures is by granting control permissions to the role as well as execute, but I don't believe this is the correct, secure way to proceed. Any suggestions/comments would be really appreciated. Thanks.

• Our application is responding different on client server

  I have an application running on our local server and it works perfect. However when I deploy my application to our client's server there are problems. If i copy all the sources to another local from their server, it works fine again.... I am talking about an ASP.NET application talking with windows server 2008. The server specs of our client are: intel Xeon 2.13 GHz 6 GB RAM 300 GB HDD windows server 2008 R2 Although I think it's not that important I will describe the problems I am talking about to give u a better idea: It is related to upating and deleting fields in the sql server. Whenever there is more than one user running the application, and updates or deletes (not even the same record!0, there seems to be fields updating/deleting wrongly. But as I said before, if we copy the source to another server it is not the case. So I assumed it is more configuration related. Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be? Thanks a lot EDIT: my client old me he disabled the sql related accounts Could this be related?
