  Hi guy, I need to integrate struts with spring for a project. I read the doc to ingrate struts and it's ok for classic beans but I have a problem for my forms. I have a form like this in my struts-config.xml: <form-beans> <form-bean name="creationForm" type="org.apache.struts.validator.DynaValidatorActionForm" > <form-property name="libelle" type="java.lang.String" /> <form-property name="quantite" type="java.lang.String" /> <form-property name="prix" type="java.lang.String" initial="10" /> </form-bean> But it's strange for me to have a "type" in struts-config because it's spring which manages beans. I don't found anything in the doc to manage forms by spring and the attribute "type" is mandatory for form in struts-config. Someone can help me please ?

• What is the best solution to do Reporting on Object data for .NET ?

  Hi, Our projects are using objects as the data source to reports. Our business layer is returning single objects or IEnumerable. Our reports (quite complex) need to display value-type properties of the object, and its related objects. Typical case would be, from a List, display a master report with category data, then a subreport with data for each Product inside each Category, then a subreport for each Part of each Product, and so on. Reporting from the database is not an option for us. We have tried so far - Reporting Services : works but have to mess around with the XML definition of the report to define the datasource classes, very hard to work with if you use an object datasource, architecturally not too clean - Telerik Reports : quite nice (esp., nice architecture) but seems to have problems with complex reports (master/sub), does not give great paging control, rumored to have performance/crash problems (immature product). Does anyone know a good reporting solution that can be integrated in an ASP.NET application and works well with objects as datasources ?

• How to write a shell in Python

  I've written a small console application that can perform certain tasks. The user interface is similar to things like version control systems or yum etc. So basically you can think of it as a domain specific language. Now I'd like to write a (bash like) shell that can execute and auto-complete this language and has a command history (so I do not have to load and save the quite large xml files on each command). In a nutshell I want something like ipython but not for executing python code but my own DSL. Are there any libraries that help me doing this? I see that there is a readline and rlcompleter module in python but its documentation seems to indicate that this is only for use with the python shell itself, or did I miss something there?

• How to send/open email attachments from android app?

  I would like to somehow send a file from my app on one android device to my app on another device. This can be done any which way, and I'm open to suggestions if you can tell me how to send over network or something like that. Currently, I'm looking at sending the file as an email attachment, but I haven't found any good documentation on how to do it. I need two things to accomplish this, be able to send my file (stored on sd card or somewhere on device) as an attachment, and have my app recognized by android as the app to open an attachment with the file extention (.lst). Any thoughts? The files will all be fairly small xml text files if that makes a difference.

• How do I customise date/time bindings using JAXWS and APT?

  Im using JAXWS 2.1.7, using some classes to run through JAXWS's 'apt' to generate the WSDL. For dates, I use @XmlSchemaType(name="time") private Date wakeupTime; and this generates a schema with xs:time, but when this all comes out in XML, the value is something like <wakeupTime>1901-01-01T01:00:00 +10</wakeupTime> I want JUST the time portion to come! I think I want to use a custom converter to say that xs:time + java.util.Date should be printed and parsed in such-and-sucha manner, but I cant see that I can pass a bindings file to the apt routine. I can't (for historical & other reasons) use XMLGregorianCalendar - it has to be a java.util.Date. How do I specify a custom binding for the apt tool in jaxb

• How can I make a read only version of a class?

  I have a class with various public properties which I allow users to edit through a property grid. For persistence this class is also serialized/deserialized to/from an XML file through DataContractSerializer. Sometimes I want to user to be able to save (serialize) changes they've made to an instance of the class. Yet at other times I don't want to allow the user to save their changes, and should instead see all the properties in the property grid as read only. I don't want to allow users to make changes that they'll never be able to save later. Similar to how MS Word will allow users to open documents that are currently opened by someone else but only as read only. My class has a boolean property that determines if the class should be read-only, but is it possible to use this property to somehow dynamically add a read-only attributes to the class properties at run-time? If not what is an alternative solution? Should I wrap my class in a read-only wrapper class?

  Where does the object "MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0" come from? Which install package? I'm attempting to do the following: Set oXMLHTTP = CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0") This attempt fails on my development machine (no object is returned) but it is successful on my collage's development machine. Obviously he has something installed that I don't or vice versa but where does this object, dll, etc come from? What would I need to install to get this call to work. For the record, changing the object to a different version isn't an option because code that this depends on was tested for several days against this specific version. We'd have to go back and test again... To expand on this question, how can I tell which version of MS XML is currently installed?

• Add blank cell at end of UITable

  I'm trying to add an additional cell for custom content as the last cell in a tableView, without altering the dictionary that creates the other content of the table. I think the place to add it is in cellForRowAtIndexPath rather than adding one to the numberOfRowsInSection, which just crashes if I do. I get a cellCount from the dictionary that creates the data for the table, then in cellForRowAtIndexPath, I have: if (indexPath.row == cellCount) { ... stuff goes here return cell; } of course, this never gets called. If I do if (indexPath.row == cellCount -1) it overwrites the last cell with content. I can get this to work if I add a blank entry into the xml from which I am populating the dictionary, but that's ugly. Example code would be neat!

  I have a ternary association table created using the following mapping: <map name="Associations" table="FooToBar"> <key column="Foo_id"/> <index-many-to-many class="Bar" column="Bar_id"/> <element column="AssociationValue" /> </map> I have 3 tables, Foo, Bar, and FooToBar. When I delete a row from the Foo table, the associated row (or rows) in FooToBar is automatically deleted. This is good. When I delete a row from the Bar table, the associated row (or rows) in FooToBar remain, with a stale reference to a Bar id that no longer exists. This is bad. How can I modify my hbm.xml to remove stale FooToBar rows when deleting from the Bar table?

I could use XML, MDF or Access database, but data is not secure in the tables. What is the best option? How does Quicken handle it? My application may also have document attachments as well.   Naming things well is arguably Job 1 for professional programmers. Yet we have all suffered from some bad naming choices from time to time. So just to vent a little, what are some doozies that you may have run across? Just to get things started: One of our original developers wasn't sure what to call a secondary key - on what turned out to be a primary table for this app - so he called it: DL2WhateverTheHellThatIs. Unfortunately this system generates entity mappings from the XML, and attributes defined there result in classes, methods, and constants that are referenced through-out the app. To this day it is very hard to find a source file that does not reference this, er, thing! • How do I sync Dreamweaver site definitions across 2 computers?

  I use Dreamweaver on my laptop and Desktop PC and frequently change between them. I keep all my sites synced using Syncplicity (similar to Dropbox, which indecently I also use) I want my site definitions to be synced across the two computers. If I add a new site on one computer I want it to appear on the other one. I know I can export all sites on one computer and then get Syncplicity to sync the files to the other computer at which point I can import them. However this relies on me remembering to do this each time I add a new site, and it's also quite time consuming. As far as I can tell, Dreamweaver (at least upto CS4- not sure about CS5) stupidly stores the site definitions in the registry. I really don't know why they do this- if they stored it in xml files then I could easily sync the information. Does anyone know if what I am asking is possible?

• Should I be building GUI applications on Windows using Perl & Tk?

  I have a bunch of related Perl scripts that I would like to put together in one convenient place. So I was thinking of building a GUI and incorporating the scripts. I'm using Strawberry Perl on Windows XP and have just installed Tk from cpan about fifteen minutes ago. Before I go for it, I want some sound advice either for or against it. My other option is to translate the Perl scripts into VB and use Visual Studio 2008, but that might be too much hassle for an outcome that might end up all the same had I just stuck with Perl & Tk. I haven't looked yet, but maybe there is a module for Visual Studio that would allow me to invoke Perl scripts? The main requirements are: It must be able to communicate with MySQL It must be able to fetch & parse XML files from the internet It must be transportable, scalable, and sustainable What direction would you take?

  Currently have a Factory class that features a GetSelector function, which returns a concrete implementation of ISelector. I have several different classes that implement ISelector and based on a setting I would like to receive the appropriate ISelector back. public interface ISelector { string GetValue(string Params); } public class XmlSelector : ISelector { public string GetValue(string Params) { // open XML file and get value } } public static class SelectorFactory { public static ISelector GetSelector() { return new XmlSelector(); // Needs changing to look at settings } } My question is what is the best way to store the setting? I am aware of using AppSettings etc. but I'm not sure whether I want to have to store strings in the web.config and perform a switch on it - just seems to be really tightly coupled in that if a new implementation of ISelector is made, then the Factory would need to be changed.   I faced a problem recently with a 3rd party library which generates classes from a xml. Here is a gist of it: class B; class A { void doSomething(); friend class B; }; class B { void doSomething(); void doSomethingMore() { doSomething(); } }; The compiler flags call to the function doSomething() as ambiguous and flags it as an compiler error. It is easy to understand why it gives the error.Class B being friend of class A, every member of class B has access to all the members of class A. Renaming of the either of functions resolved my problem but it got me thinking that shouldn't in this case the compiler should give a priority to the class's own member function over the function in another class of which it is a friend?

  Hi guys I'm developing a google apps solution and I'm building on the tutorial application give by google at http://code.google.com/googleapps/marketplace/tutorial_php.html - the thing is that the example given sets up the application such that the user has to enter in manually the email address or username and then it takes the user through an authentication process whereby it asks the user if they wish to allow the application to be given access to the services mentioned in the manifest.xml file. Isn't there a better way to do this I mean like I want that when the user upon logging into his google apps account just has to click in the application link installed and straight on should be able to enter the application. Can't the process of authentication and all be transparent in the backdrop. I need help on this asap. Thanks a bunch!

• Transaction issue in java with hibernate - latest entries not pulled from database

  Hi, I'm having what seems to be a transactional issue in my application. I'm using Java 1.6 and Hibernate 3.2.5. My application runs a monthly process where it creates billing entries for a every user in the database based on their monthly activity. These billing entries are then used to create Monthly Bill object. The process is: Get users who have activity in the past month Create the relevant billing entries for each user Get the set of billing entries that we've just created Create a Monthly Bill based on these entries Everything works fine until Step 3 above. The Billing Entries are correctly created (I can see them in the database if I add a breakpoint after the Billing Entry creation method), but they are not pulled out of the database. As a result, an incorrect Monthly Bill is generated. If I run the code again (without clearing out the database), new Billing Entries are created and Step 3 pulls out the entries created in the first run (but not the second run). This, to me, is very confusing. • Can Hibernate default a Null String to Empty String

  In our application we are pulling data from a DB2 mainframe database. If the database has "low values" in a field, hibernate sends a "null" value in the object. This occurs even if the column is defined as "not null". As we are doing XML parsing on this, Castor is having trouble with it. I would like to fix this in Hibernate. Also, all of the hibernate hbm files are generated, so we can't mess with them (they are regened from time to time.) Any way to intercept all Strings and replace nulls with ""?
