I am requesting (via Accept: application/json) that an API I'm designing respond as JSON. However, I want the values within that JSON to be specified to conform to text/plain or text/html depending on the capabilities of the client.
What is the RESTful best practice for a "sub-type"? How would this work if I formally switched to HAL as the top-level container?
Accept: application/json+text/plain
{
"value": "Hello World"
}
Accept: application/json+text/html
{
"value": "<h2>Hello World</h2>"
}
I'm building an e-commerce website in ASP.Net/C# and I'm having some difficulties with my shopping cart...
I want my costumers to be able to say "I want X boxes, and each box carries Y items".
Let's say, for instance, my website sells flowers. A client logs in and then chooses X bouquets and then for each bouquet he adds flowers from the catalog.
Can you point me out some links or tips in order to achieve this behaviour?
Thanks
I am getting this exception while accessing the jax-ws web service from my client.

I am working on an iPhone app for a client that needs to be able to manipulate directories on an arbitrary FTP server.
Does anybody know of any FTP libraries, frameworks, sample code that can remove directories from an FTP server?
NOTE I have thoroughly researched CFFTP and the SimpleFTP Sample code provided by Apple and it only supports half of the FTP protocol(I don't know why there is only half of the implementation).
Is there a method to include CSS background images in print?
If i use image replace techniques for (which is considered as a best practice) Logo then logo doesn't come in print.
and many places in site CSS background is saving bandwidth and my time both. but client is asking to include many things in print also.
What should i do?
I am writing a simple REST service, which responds to requests from clients. All in PHP.
My concern is, that when my server responds to a request, it could end up tying up resources if the client side is too slow in sending back "ok" response.
How do I send a POST request via lib_curl setting it to not wait for any responses, but rather quit immidiately after the POST data have been sent?
Is this even possible? Thank you !
I have a number laptops that run our application while connected to each other in pairs with an ethernet cable, but not connected to any external network or the internet. T
I need the connected pair to synchronize their system times, but since every computer needs to be able to synch with any other computer, I can't define one computer to be a time-server and the other to be a client.
Is there a way to do this with NTP? Or some other way?
We are developing a very complex eCommerce portal using asp.net c# and the client asked us to make the documentation very similar (look & feel) with ebay api documentation http://developer.ebay.com/DevZone/shopping/docs/CallRef/GetSingleItem.html
Do you have any idea what kind of tool they are using and if not do you know anything that can be configured to produce a similar result ?
Thank you in advance !
Andrew
A possible reason because a NullPointerException is a runtime exception is because every method can throw it, so every method would need to have a "throws NullPointerException", and would be ugly. But this happens with RemoteException.
And a possible reason because RemoteException is not a runtime exception, is to tell it client to treat the exception. But every method in a remote environment need throws it, so there is no difference of throwing NullPointerException.
Speculations? Was I clear?
I was asked by a client to create a bookflip (Page Turn) effect that did not require Flash. The imBookFlip plugin can load a book in an iframe or directly on the page. The book's pages can be set to turn when manually clicked only, begin auto flip (turn automatically) as soon as the html page loads, or begin auto flip when first page (front cover is clicked).
firefox wont allow the javascript to save a file in client machine is the browser security policy

I have an ASP.NET MVC site that uses both Microsoft Ajax [Ajax.BeginForm()] and jQuery to make asynchronous requests. I want to configure both frameworks such that a generic error handler is automatically attached if the developer does not explicitly specify a failure callback.
In jQuery I can accomplish this with either .ajaxSetup() or .ajaxError(). What is the equivalent in the Microsoft Ajax client library? I'm fairly sure it's something in the Sys object but I can't find it...
How could a network of servers communicate with each other?
For example, if Client A connects to Server A, how would the other servers be informed of this? I'm guessing you would need a "central" server, but how would it be implemented?
I'm really dumbfounded on this, so any help would be nice :)
I have a WebMethod that recevives following types of parameters:

How would you save this data on a database: An user can make phone calls (id, date, hour, duration, outcome).
The "outcome" can be, for example, to recall the client on another day (so I have to save the date, the hour, etc of this "future" call).
How would you manage this data on a db?
At the moment i have only a "Call" table.
I am working on an iPhone app using a SQLite db. I have some French characters that are not rendering properly in the app - they are being displayed as squares.
The character set client is: utf8. Is there an easy fix for this?
The desktop app should start the web server on launch and should shut it down on close.
Assuming that the desktop is the only client allowed to connect to the web server, what is the best way to write this?

We need to implement a gallery feature for our client's new website. They had a similar feature on their last site, which used Smooth Gallery, which in turn was based on Moo Tools.
We could go ahead and do the same however, before we do, does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives and if so, please explain why you feel your choice is better.
It seems that Silverlight/WPF are the long term future for user interface development with .NET. This is great because as I can see the advantage of reusing XAML skills on both the client and web development sides. But looking at WPF/XAML/Silverlight they seem very large technologies and so where is the best place to get start?
I would like to hear from anyone who has good knowledge of both and can recommend which is a better starting point and why.
I have only worked on web apps for my whole career. I'm starting a new desktop (Adobe AIR) app project but I found myself having difficulties with:
stuck with thinking about overall UI design in the traditional page model
not sure how to handle the navigation part in the UI
not taking advantage of states
deciding what should be implemented on client vs server side.
Any advice? Thanks.
I have a web service that I just coded up that drops an image (png) into my SQL Server 2008 database as a varbinary.
Is there a easy tool out there that can let me see that image?
I could code up a client, but I would rather just use a tool if one exists.
I have a small rails app that has default scaffold generated routes eg. /stadia/1.xml. However I have to support legacy client app that can't construct such URLs correctly. What I need to do is to map URL in the form:
/stadia?id=1?format=xml to /stadia/1.xml
Or even something like:
/myApp?model=<model_name>?id=<id>?format=xml to /<model_name/<id>.xml
Is it possible to craft appropriate route in Rails?
