• Problem installing libva (VAAPI), vainfo fails

  I'm following a wiki on how to make VLC use the GPU in the Core i3 integrated graphics chipset, but I'm stuck at one of the first steps, installing VAAPI. I installed libva1 and vainfo by using "sudo apt-get install libva1 vainfo", but when I run vainfo it says libva: libva version 0.32.0 libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0 libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/dri/i965_drv_video.so libva: va_openDriver() returns -1 vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit It should say VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointVLD VAProfileVC1Advanced : VAEntrypointVLD according to the wiki. /usr/lib/dri/i965_drv_video.so doesn't exist in my system, but I installed libva1 with apt-get.

• Cannot shutdown, computer freezes

  I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 (near windows 7) on my laptop(Dell studio xps 1640 with Ati Radeon HD 3670) and everything is working fine, but when I want to shutdown my computer it freezes! I don't know what to do after that, then I have to use power button to power off the computer and it's not good at all. I don't know what's the problem and I don't know how to figure this out. I installed the graphic card driver (12.6 version) from ATI website and it fixed my problem with playing videos but I think after that this shutdown problem appears! Would you tell me what's the problem and how can I fix it?

  I had installed Ubuntu 11.04 through CD alongside windows. I got a problem here in upgradation when I upgraded my Ubuntu 11.10 version to 12.04.There were many errors too while installing upgrades.. The package got broken. After restarting the computer,It should appear Ubuntu 12.04,even here It is appearing ubuntu 11.10 with four dots just moving one by one and does not proceeds further,hangs here!! Windows is running fine,I restarted computer many times,plugged out the charger...Nothing is working. How to solve this issue?? I'm not a very frequent user of all this.. Please guide me...

• Making a physicalized melee weapon

  The short version, is that I was asked to look into the feasibility of making a melee weapon, that one could swing at another object in the game, and have it interact physically. I completed the tutorial here http://www.mavrikgames.com/tutorials/melee-weapons, and proved that indeed it is. The thing is, that only for a brief period in the swing is the sword capable of knocking things around. I've looked through the editor and code for awhile now, and I'm still not sure how to do this. I was able to lengthen the amount of time it takes the animations run for, but not the length of time with which the sword can bash the barrel around.

• Ubuntu 11.10 boot: xhost: unable to open display

  I've had this papercut for a while now, it's time it was fixed. When I boot up Ubuntu, choosing "Ubuntu...generic" from the grub screen, Ubuntu fails to load. It just sits at the driver/module loading screen. What seems to be the most significant line in this output is "xhost: unable to open display" If I choose "Ubuntu...(recovery mode)" from grub then it loads OK. I don't get why this is. Out of interest I tried enabling boot error logging with #/etc/default/bootlogd BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes but I'm not seeing anything in that file. ETA: I've had this problem since fresh install of 11.10.   I have ubuntu 11.10 and am trying to install the latest version of kbibtex but I can't do it. Anyone know how to do?   I need help in setting up Zend framework on my PC. I am using XAMPP on Windows 7. I read tutorials and did what they suggested but don't know why it is not running. I need stepwise help. I have downloaded Zend version 1.11.13 and extracted the contents in a C drive folder. I have also set up environment variables and also made proper changes in php.ini file. But still not working.   Microsoft has recently launched Razor view engine with ASP.NET MVC RC2. It’s going to be promising one. There are lots of features bundled with this view engine. But in earlier version of ASP.NET 3 MVC. We were are not having Synatx intellisense provided for asp.net mvc views  in Visual Studio 2010. So either we have to depend third party tools like Resharper or we have to manage it without intellisesnse. But with ASP.NET MVC 3 RC2 Microsoft has moved one step forward and its providing syntax intellisense without installing any third party addons in Visual Studio. Here is example of it. • Screen gets garbled on some web sites

  I have a Gateway notebook with graphics card 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] with open source driver Linux version 2.6.32 -28 - generic. No other operating system on the computer. When I am using firefox to browse the web, everything normally works just fine except that when I attempt to access some particular web pages the screen completely messes up going mostly white with various streaks, etc., although I can access other pages of the same site without problems. When I run the cursor over the garbled screen, bits of the image recompose themselves, at least partially, and I can continue to open the applications window, or turn the computer off, or open the terminal, or take screen shots, etc., although all menus are unreadable. Also, when I zoom in on Google Earth the screen completely messes up. At all other times, there are no apparent problems. Any ideas?

My dual (UBUNTU/WINDOWS) Desktop sound works fine in windows!!!(damm!!) my DELL Inspiration laptop sound works fine in UBUNTU 14.4 LTS. ¿?¿?
