• Openswan + xl2tpd connections time out after a while

  I have a non-NATed Openswan+xl2tpd server (Ubuntu 12.04), to which I connect with a Windows 8 behind NAT. The client loses its connection after a while of doing nothing (between 30 and 60 minutes, but I didn't time it). The client doesn't have enabled that it should kill inactive connections. Nor does it ever go into sleep mode. I also tried setting the kill-after-time to 24 hours, but that didn't help. The NAT router behind which the client located is Debian Linux, and its router is a Cisco which connects us directly to the data center where the server is. None of our other connections, like SSH, get dropped with inactivity (because of cheap routers). I did however try turning on the keepalives in /etc/ipsec.conf: config setup (...snip...) nat_traversal=yes force_keepalive=yes keep_alive=10 but that didn't help. As you can see in the config later, dead peer detection's action is clear. That would be a first suggestion to fix, but I need clear, because people will be connecting from everwhere but the kitchen sink. Besides, as I said, in the test setup I have now, I can't see any device killing its connection. • Customizing the processing of ListItems for asp:RadioButtonList with "Flow" layout and "Horizontal"

  Hi, recently I was asked to add an ability to pad specific elements from each other to a certain distance in RadioButtonList control. Not quite common everyday task I would say :)   Ok, let's get started!   Prerequisites: ASP.NET Page having RadioButtonList control with RepeatLayout="Flow" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" properties set.   Implementation:  The underlying data was coming from another source, so the only fast way to add meta information about padding was the text value itself (yes, not very optimal solution): Id = 1, Name = "This is first element" and for padding we agreed to use <space/> meta tag: Id = 2, Name = "<space padcount="30px"/>This is second padded element"   To handle items rendering in RadioButtonList control I've created custom class and subclassed from it:    public class CustomRadioButtonList : RadioButtonList    {        private Action<ListItem, HtmlTextWriter> _preProcess;         protected override void RenderItem(ListItemType itemType, int repeatIndex, RepeatInfo repeatInfo, HtmlTextWriter writer)        {            if (_preProcess != null)            {                _preProcess(this.Items[repeatIndex], writer);            }             base.RenderItem(itemType, repeatIndex, repeatInfo, writer);        }         public void SetPrePrenderItemFunction(Action<ListItem, HtmlTextWriter> func)        {            _preProcess = func;        }    }   It is pretty straightforward approach, the key is to override RenderItem method. • Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

  I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's. For privacy/security reasons, names have been changed to the following: domain.com = Our Top Level Domain. email.local = Our Exchange Server. example.com = ANY other TLD.   In this tutorial step we will develop a very simple clock application that may be used as a screensaver on our devices and will allow us to discover a new feature of Silverlight for Windows Embedded (transforms) and how to use an “old” feature of Windows CE (timers) inside a Silverlight for Windows Embedded application. Inside each hand we put a TextBlock that will be used to display the current hour, minute, second inside the dial (you can’t do that on plain old analog clocks, but it looks nice). As usual we use XAML2CPP to generate the boring part of our code. We declare a class named “Clock” and derives from the TClock template that XAML2CPP has declared for us. class Clock : public TClock<Clock> { ... }; Our WinMain function is more or less the same we used in all the previous samples. How we can update our clock if we don’t have a timer feature? We just use plain old Windows timers, as we do in “regular” Windows CE applications! To use a timer in WinCE we should declare an id for it: #define IDT_CLOCKUPDATE 0x12341234 We also need an HWND that will be used to receive WM_TIMER messages. Our Silverlight for Windows Embedded page is “hosted” inside a GWES Window and we can retrieve its handle using the GetContainerHWND function of our VisualHost object. That sounds great… but how could we handle the WM_TIMER message if we didn’t implement a window procedure for our window? We have to move a step back and look how a visual host is created. Those members will allow us to install a “hook” procedure that will be called each time the GWES window “hosting” our Silverlight for Windows Embedded UI receives a message. Having an extra parameter is not allowed for the type defined for the pHookProc member of the XRWindowsCreateParams struct and so we should implement our hook procedure as static. But in a static procedure we will not have a this pointer. How could we access the data member of our class? Here’s the second thing to notice. We initialized also the pvUserParam of the XRWindowsCreateParams struct. We set it to our this pointer. This value will be passed as the first parameter of the hook procedure. Then we can apply the transform to our UI object using SetRenderTransform. Every UI element (derived from IXRFrameworkElement) can be rotated! And using different subclasses of IXRTransform also moved, scaled, skewed and distorted in many ways. You can also concatenate multiple transforms and apply them at once suing a IXRTransformGroup object. The XAML engine uses vector graphics and object will not look “pixelated” when they are rotated or scaled.   I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. • Handling EJB/JPA exceptions in a “beautiful” way

  In order to handle JPA exceptions, there are some ways already detailed in lots of blogs. Here, I intend to show one of them, which I consider kind of “beauty”. My use case has a unique constraint, when the User try to create a duplicate value in database. The JPA throws a java.sql.SQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException, and I have to catch it and replace the message. In fact, ADF Business Components framework already has a beautiful solution for this very well documented here . However, for EJB/JPA there's no similar approach. In my case, what I had to do was: 1. Create a custom Error Handler Class in DataBindings file; a. Here is how you accomplish it. 2. Override the reportException method and check if the type of exception exists on property file a. If yes, I change the message and rethrows the exception b. If not, go on the execution The main goal of this approach is whether a new or unhandled Exception was raised, the job is, only create a single entry in bundle property file.   I'm setting up a new web server that hosts a dozen virtual hosts on Ubuntu 12.4 using Apache 2.2.22 with one config file per site. I created all the configuration files all at once and ran a2ensite * to enable them all at once. When I reloaded the configuration it failed and after restarting apache I found the following error message in my error.log: Oops, no RSA or DSA server certificate found for 'server.host.name:0'?! • How can I open urls on my host machine with VMWARE?

  I am running a Windows 7 vm with WMware player from Fedora. I have VMWare tools installed successfully and I have successfully some of it's features like Unity mode so it seems to be installed correctly. That being said I still cannot get urls to open up in my host machine's browsers, these are the steps I have taken: Within the vm I set "Default Host Application" to be the application to open urls. Within my host machine I have set Chrome to be my preferred application for opening urls. Enabled Shared Folders in the vm (Not sure if that really helped anything but I saw it suggested on a forum post) After doing that when I click on a link I get the following error message: Default host Application: Make sure the virtual machine's configuration allows the guest to open host applications. I cannot find any option like that in my vm's configuration so I am not sure what the error message is referring to.

• How To Personalize the Windows Command Prompt

  Command line interfaces can be downright boring, and always seem to miss out on the fresh coats of paint liberally applied to the rest of Windows.  Here’s how to add a splash of color to Command Prompt and make it unique. By default, Windows Command Prompt is white text on a black background. It get’s the job done, but maybe you want to add some color to it.   To get an overview of what we can do with the color command, let’s enter: color /? So, to get the color you want, enter color then the option for the background color followed by the font color.  For example, let’s make an old-fashioned green on black look by entering: color 02   There are a bunch of different combinations you can do, like this black background with red text. color 04 You can’t mess it up too much.  The color command won’t let you set both the font and the background to the same color, which would make it unreadable.  Also, if you want to get back to the default settings, just enter: color Now we’re back to plain-old black and white. Personalize Command Prompt Without Commands If you’d prefer to change the color without entering commands, just click on the Command Prompt icon in the top left corner of the window and select Properties. Select the Colors tab, and then choose the color you want for the screen text and background.  You can also enter your own RGB color combination if you want.   Here we entered the RGB values to get a purple background color like Ubuntu 10.04. Back in the Properties dialog, you can also change your Command Prompt font from the font tab.  Choose any font you want, as long as the one you want is one of the three listed here. Customizations you make via the Properties dialog are saved and will be used any time you open Command Prompt, but any customizations you make with the Color command are only for that session. • Problem starting Glassfish on a VPS

  I am attempting to install Glassfishv3 on my Ubuntu (8.04) VPS using Java 1.6. I initially tried starting the server using: asadmin start-domain and received the following error message: JVM failed to start: com.sun.enterprise.admin.launcher.GFLauncherException: The server exited prematurely with exit code 1. Before it died, it produced the following output: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Command start-domain failed. I attempted to run it again and received a different message: Waiting for DAS to start Error starting domain: domain1. The server exited prematurely with exit code 1. Before it died, it produced the following output: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. Command start-domain failed. If I run cat /proc/meminfo I get the following (all other values are 0kB): MemTotal: 1310720 kB MemFree: 1150668 kB LowTotal: 1310720 kB LowFree: 1150668 kB I have checked the contents of glassfish/glassfish/domains/domain1/config/domain.xml and the JVM setting is: -Xmx512m Any help on resolving this problem would be appreciated.

• How can I find the Windows domain logon name of a user from within Outlook 2010?

  I need to figure out someone's login name for our domain, and I'd like to be able to do this from within Outlook 2010. I used to be able to do this from Outlook 2007 by right-clicking the user's name in an email message that they'd sent me, and clicking "Outlook Properties..." in the context menu. That would bring up this dialog, which contained what I need in the "alias" field: Now I've installed Outlook 2010. I want to do the same thing, but I can't seem to find a corresponding field. First, I don't see an explicit "Outlook Properties" menu option anymore, and what I think is the corresponding dialog looks completely different: It seems weird that, although I'm looking at the properties of my own name in the same email message in 2007 and 2010 in these screenshots, my name is shown differently in each -- Chris versus Christopher. That makes me think that Outlook isn't really looking in the same place to get this info in each case. So, can I get that "alias" field from within Outlook 2010?

  Twitter is a popular social networking web service for writing and sharing short messages. These tidy text messages are referred to as tweets and are limited to 140 characters. Users can leave tweets and follow other users directly from Twitter's website or by using the Twitter API. Twitter's API makes it possible to integrate Twitter with external applications. For example, you can use the Twitter API to display your latest tweets on your blog. A mom and pop online store could integrate Twitter such that a new tweet was added each time a customer completed an order. And ELMAH, a popular open-source error logging library, can be configured to send error notifications to Twitter. Twitter's API is implemented over HTTP using the design principles of Representational State Transfer (REST). In a nutshell, inter-operating with the Twitter API involves a client - your application - sending an XML-formatted message over HTTP to the server - Twitter's website. The server responds with an XML-formatted message that contains status information and data. While you can certainly interface with this API by writing your own code to communicate with the Twitter API over HTTP along with the code that creates and parses the XML payloads exchanged between the client and server, such work is unnecessary since there are many community-created Twitter API libraries for a variety of programming frameworks. • Unable to remove file using 'rm'

  Hi all, In one of our severs (IBM AIX), we have a file in path /data/1002/ which we were not able to remove or delete using the 'rm' command. The error message we got is "rm: A1208001.002: A file or directory in the path name does not exist." With the "-f" option, no error message was displayed, but the file is still there. This file has a '0' byte size and when i use the command "touch A120001.002", i see two files with the same file name in that directory. The directory listing is as below: $ ls -l total 56 -rwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 0 Feb 09 11:57 S1208001.002 drwxrwxrwx 4 nobody dba 24576 Feb 09 13:36 backup How do I remove this bogus fie? Thanks.

• logon script not running

  i tried make a logon script to map some network drives since it need more than homedir only but when i apply to script to "logon" in a GPO on server 2008 it doesnt run it on the pc when i logon. when i make a Gpresult -r it show as applied but it never ran the script. i tried run the script manual and that works fine. In Event Viewer in windows 7 it show an error "Event ID 1129" with this text in the general tap: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator.

• Server 2003 on domain wont let domain user have local profile

  I have a few servers that are acting in this behavior, you log in and always get put into a temporary profile. The server is licensed for TS. The user I am testing with has local admin rights so it doesn't seem to be a permission issue on the server. I'll first get a message that the users roaming profile cannot be found, even though we dont use roaming profiles. I then get another message immediately after saying a local profile could not be loaded, so it will only use a temp profile. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I just had some fun with a new server I set up. I configured Database Mail but it wouldn't send mail. In the Database Log was an error message I've never had before: The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 1 (2010-02-15T16:58:54). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (A non-recoverable error occurred during a database lookup). ) I looked around and found this forum thread: http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139909. I looked into the anti-virus software and firewall but neither of those helped. Then I noticed the last post where they original poster said "oops, I put an @ in the name of the SMTP server". How I laughed. What a ***! At least my problem isn't because I did something that careless. But then that little voice in my head said "Better check, just to be on the safe side". SMTP Server Name: smtp@domain. Who's the *** now? So, rbarlow, thanks very much for making the same silly mistake first so I could find the answer. (And I'm sorry for thinking you were a ***!)

• Override the bounce recipient address in exim4

  I have a small app that allows a user to share an item by generating an email to a supplied email address. We set the "from" and "reply to" values to be the sender's address, so that when the email reaches the recipient, it appears to have come from the sender. This works wonderfully except when an email gets bounced. Currently, on bounces, exim attempts to redeliver the message periodically while simultaneously sending error emails back to the sender. I'd rather have those emails basically routed to an empty mailbox somewhere as there's nothing really that the sender can do about it. I found some documentation on bounced emails here: http://www.exim.org/exim-html-4.67/doc/html/spec_html/ch46.html and it claims that "Exim sends a message to the original sender, or to an alternative configured address.", but it doesn't say exactly how to configure an alternative address. Ideas?

• SQL 2000: Intermittent Error 7399 with OLE DB Provider for Microsoft Jet

  I am using SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 and have set up a linked server to point at an Access 97 database using the OLE DB Provider 4.0 for Microsoft Jet. The problem I am having sounds almost exactly like the one described in this Microsoft KB article, except that the error I am getting is intermittent: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814398 The SQL Server is running under the Local System account (which I don't have authority to change), and the Access 97 .mdb file that the linked server points to is on a Win XP Pro machine on the same LAN as the SQL Server machine, inside of a shared folder with permissions set to "Everyone" and "Full Control". Now, if the linked server connection never worked, it would make more sense that the problem is merely a permissions issue with the Local System account as the KB article above suggests, but the maddening thing is that sometimes the connection works just fine. When it fails, the error message is always the same: Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. [OLE/DB provider returned message: Unspecified error] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ]. Also, not only does the linked server setup occasionally work just fine on this one particular SQL Server, what is supposed to be exactly the same setup on 25 other servers works just fine EVERY TIME! Obviously, something in the non-working setup must not be exactly the same, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to look for the differences since the error message SQL Server returns is so vague. I know our sysadmins have had numerous issues with Active Directory replication across our domain, so my best guess is that there is some sort of odd group policy corruption going on, but I thought I'd ask here to see if I might be overlooking something more straightforward. Any ideas on how to further isolate the error would be greatly appreciated! For the record, here is a list of things I've already tried: Rebooting the SQL Server machine. Fixes the issue temporarily, then the error returns within a minute or two of startup. (This is why I suspect a rogue group policy that is slow to apply fouling things up.) Importing all database objects from the Access 97 mdb into a new, clean mdb file. Makes no difference. Moving the Access 97 mdb file to a local directory on the SQL Server machine instead of accessing it via a share on the Win XP Pro LAN machine. This works, but does not solve the problem because the mdb needs to be on the client machine for performance reasons and the ability to work "stand alone". Plus, the same shared folder access works fine on all other servers / clients on my network. Compared all the SQL Server, Windows Server, etc versions to a known working setup and everything appears to be the same.
