• Mac OS X: pushing all traffic through a VMWare VM [closed]

  I want to set up an Astaro (Sophos) UTM in a Virtual Machine. The Setup should be at the end the following: Cable Modem (one IP adress) | [Ethernet] Sophos UTM (running as VM [VMWare Fusion 5] on the MacMini) | [WIFI] Airport Express v2 (for sharing Local Network to wireless and wired clients) 1)| [WIFI] 2)| [Ethernet over Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter]* Clients MacMini (Local File Server) *To have the Mini also protected behind the UTM So the setup process for the UTM works fine, but then the problems start: I just have one external IP (from my cable modem provider)== So if I put the VM in briged mode my Internet connection drops, because the MacMini also has its IP adress. If I put the VM to NAT mode the Mini itself is not protected by the UTM So: is there a way to hide the en0 interface(Ethernet) and the en1 interface (Wifi) from the MacMini, so that they not even appear in System Preferences Network section but are available to the VM? That way the Mini must connect to the en2 interface (Thunderbolt adapter) to make any Internet/LAN connection and I just use the given single IP from the Cable Modem. Thaks for any suggestions... • Can't connect to Apple Time Capsule in home network using Home Plugs from Win 7 Machine

  I have the following home network setup with subnet 255.255.255.0 but recently moved my time capsule to a different location when I added a third Home Plug and can no longer ping or map a network drive to it from the Windows 7 Machine. However using Airport Utility on the Windows 7 machine I can manually configure the Time Capsule. Using a Macbook on WIFI Network 1 or 2 - I can backup to the time capsule, so its accessible via both the router wifi network and the time capsule wifi network. The Time Capsule is set to BRIDGE function - ie no NAT or DHCP server enabled. Any bright sparks out there that can help diagnose the problem? I try to setup airport new network name is"mymacmini'. My iPod Touch also can recognize the network "mymacmini". I set my iPod wifi as "mymacmini" But if I try to connect to Internet, Safari always reports failure and connnection with Wifi. • Share a USB sound card over a network/bluetooth (Mac & PC)

  I've been wondering how I can stream audio to an external Edirol USB sound card, wirelessly, on both Mac and PC. I'm not looking for high quality transmission, just to play mp3s from my Mac laptop to a USB sound card that is attached to two very nice balanced studio reference monitors. Is there any way I can firstly power the sound card box, and secondly, provide with an audio stream along it's USB input. I've looked at the Belkin USB hub, and I have a Time Capsule with the AirPort interface inside. These things seem to do vaguely what I want but when it comes to audio, the specifications are less clear. Any suggestions very welcome.

• Mac won't boot into safe mode

  Mac boots fine normally, except when in safe mode. Holding down shift when booting gets me to the progress bar on the grey screen. Progress bar gets about half way before mac reboots. I modified nvram boot-args to get a better look: sudo nvram boot-args="-x -v" It definitely gets through fsck, skips loading kernel extensions (since it's in safe mode), does something with the network interfaces, then this is the last thing it wips through... Along the way, we're trying to also set it up with a separate guest network and port forwarding/NAT, however we're having trouble setting it up so that the time capsule is handling the DHCP leases instead of the router. We've got DSL through Verizon through a Westell modem/router to the Time Capsule. Done the RTFM thing, and we haven't been able to get it to work.   Hi I have two separate Internet connections connected to a Mac and I'd like one of them (via Ethernet eth0 gateway 192.168.2.1) to serve for just backing up to an remote online storage, and the other one (via Airport en1 gateway 192.168.1.1) for all other Internet traffic. I tried using "route" from the terminal as follows: sudo route add -host 98.207.226.113 -interface eth0 (just for testing against the site www.whatismyip.org whose IP is 98.207.226.113, to see through which gateway the traffic is routed) I can see using netstat that the route is added: $ netstat -rn -f inet Routing tables Internet: Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire default 192.168.1.1 UGSc 49 0 en1 98.207.226.113 192.168.2.1 UGSc 0 0 eth0 However, the traffic in this case does NOT get routed properly through Ethernet, as if the routing definition I made is ignored.   I'm downloading PDF approach plates from Navigraph, and i have a folder per airport with files named after their corresponding approach / departure etc. Now I'd like to take such a folder with a bunch of PDF files, automatically generate an index and combine them to a single .mobi file that i can send to my Kindle. The index created can be very simple and consist of the file name (without the extension). Tapping an index item should jump to the correct page for that chart. I know there is a host of apps that combine comic book jpg's to ebooks, but is there anything that does the above please?

  For a while now I've been using the Wireless in my Mac Mini as a seperate WiFi access point because my main router doesn't quite cover my whole house. There is a dedicated CAT 5E line down to the Mini, which has a static IP address. I've turned Internet Sharing on, using Airport/WiFi but it seems my options for security are limited. Can I do WPA2? Also, it seems like my iPhone only connects 25% of the time, and the rest of the time it claims I've given a bad password. I've tried "Forget this network" repeatedly.

• Truecrypt in place decryption. Is this possible?

  I want to decrypt my entire partition and turn it back into standard NTFS. I encrypted a large partition on my 1TB drive before I took it through the airport. For this I used the in place method on truecrypt for win7. I'm on a mac now and there doesn't seem to be any way to decryppt the drive in place. It mounts fine, but I don't want to buy another drive just so I can shift files around. The drive is hooked up via USB. Would this be a problem?

The question is, how do I do whatever the AirPort Basestation will do? All I can find so far is that supposedly I need to send something with Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WMM): Basically, I want to be able to wake up my Mac Mini remotely, probably using my Linux laptop. Does anyone know of a tool to do this? Basic Wake on LAN tools do not seem to be the right thing. I don't need the Sleep Proxy Service bit, because I already know the MAC address of the system I want to wake up.

I know it's working because my friend with a Mac access the net fine. My friend with the PC can see the network, but can't connect to it. In the sharing prefs, airport options, I chose these options: Channel: Automatic Enable encryption: yes WEP Key length 40-bit password length: 5 chars (as specified in the instructional text) Update: I tried it with encryption turned off, and it works. Of course, I'd rather not do that... Any ideas?

• Why does the Mac OS X (10.6) Finder stop being able to connect to Windows computers?

  We have one Mac (a MacBook Pro Unibody) amongst our Windows machines which connects to the "server" (actually a Dell running Windows XP Pro) to access documents. This works just fine most of the time, but sometimes after waking from sleep, it cannot connect to any Windows computer on the network. There are no errors (nor even any messages) in the Console application when attempting to connect either by the Finder's network browsing, nor when using the "Connect To Server" menu. I have tried "Relaunch" on Finder, toggled File Sharing, disabled and re-enabled the Airport, but nothing makes the Mac able to connect again until I reboot it! Other computers can connect to the machines, so it is definitely the Mac at fault. Are there any workarounds that anyone has found? Is there perhaps a way to re-start the samba client?

• Inbound connections using Internet Connection Sharing in Apple/Mac/Leopard

  I have a Mac mini which I'm using to give some other devices wireless access, by sharing it's Airport connection with the local ethernet, and that is plugged into a switch. All devices can get online no problem. (See how: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041112101646643 and http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071223001432304 ) The issue is that I need to be able to connect in to these machines as well (at least, for the Slingbox to work). All the devices have 192.168.2.* addresses, and the rest of my local network is on 192.168.1.*. I tried setting a static route so that the 192.168.2.* addresses would use a gateway of 192.168.1.50 (my mac mini's address) but that didn't seem to help. Does anyone know if what I'm trying to do is possible? I admit I'm not certain what Internet Connection sharing is really doing under the hood... perhaps it just does basic nat, and doesn't do the type of routing I'm looking for. If so, anyone know if this is possible?

• Why has my Mac been running fsck_hfs for two days now?

  I first noticed that fsck_hfs was running, taking up 50-75% of a CPU, yesterday. It continues to run today. ps shows that it is doing /sbin/fsck_hfs -f -n -x -E /dev/disk3. Only problem: I don’t think I have a /dev/disk3. Why is it running? Will it ever finish? Can I kill it? What is /dev/disk3? Could it be my Time Machine volume, which is not mounted at the moment? System Info: MacBook Pro (2008). It has two disks installed—the internal disk (/dev/disk1) and a PC Card SSD (/dev/disk0, surprisingly). It connects to a remote Time Machine volume attached to an Airport Extreme base station.

• Have to reset wireless frequently on iPad / Macs connected to Cisco WRV200

  I have a Cisco WRV200 set up in our small office. The wireless signal works great for PCs, but I have found that Macs and iPads have to frequently reset the connection. It will be working for about 10 minutes, then stop. To fix it, I just turn off Airport and turn it on again. On an iPad, I have to go into settings, shut the wireless off, and then turn it on again. The router is broadcasting mixed B/G on channel 6. Security is WPA-PSK2. Anybody out there had similar issues with their router? How can I fix it?

• Using command line to connect to a wireless network with an http login

  I'm trying to connect to a wifi network where it hijacks all requests and redirects you to a page where you have to agree to a terms of use before it lets you connect to the actual outside world. This is a pretty common practice, and usually doesn't pose much of a problem. However, I've got a computer running Ubuntu 9.10 server with no windowing system. How can I use the command line to agree to the terms of use? I don't have internet access on the computer to download packages via apt-get or anything like that. Sure, I can think of any number of workarounds, but I suspect there's an easy way to use wget or curl or something. Basically, I need a command line solution for sending an HTTP POST request essentially clicking on a button. For future reference, it'd be helpful to know how to send a POST request with, say, a username and password if I ever find myself in that situation in another hotel or airport.

  My MacBook Pro will not automatically connect to a Wireless network with a hidden SSID. It makes me select the "Join Other Network..." in the Airport menu (in the system tray), where I need to input the name of the network, then security type, password and wait for it to connect. This is becoming increasingly annoying to have to do every time I come back to my desk. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5 and there doesn't seem to be an option to connect to a specific network, but rather "Preferred Networks." The only network I have set as Preferred that's in range is my home network, and it still doesn't automatically connect. Making the network publicly visible isn't under my control, so I'm stuck with what's currently in place.   What kind of (server) infrastructure is necessary for automatic IPv6 tunneling to work? How would a client automatically find an endpoint? I'm not even sure if this is a standard feature of IPv6 or not, but setting up an IPv6 tunnel using an Apple Airport base station I noticed that it offers IPv6 tunneling with automatic configuration. Trying it, it didn't work (i.e. it failed to establish a tunnel). I'd imagine the ISP would need to run some sort of server advertising where an endpoint can be found? How is this supposed to work exactly?
