  • Set AUTO_INCREMENT value programmatically

    - by Tim
So this works... ALTER TABLE variation AUTO_INCREMENT = 10; But I want to do this; ALTER TABLE variation AUTO_INCREMENT = (SELECT MAX(id)+1 FROM old_db.varaition); but that doesnt work, and neither does; SELECT MAX(id)+1 INTO @old_auto_inc FROM old_db.variation ALTER TABLE variation AUTO_INCREMENT = @old_auto_inc; So does anyone know how to do this? ( I'm trying to ensure that AUTO_INCREMENT keys dont collide between an old and a new site and need to do this automatically. So I can just run a script when the new db goes live )

  • Are the ususal database performance-tuning tips invalide for a third-party app like Drupal

    - by Paul Strugger
When you have a slow database app, the first suggestions that people make is to: Track the slow queries Add appropriate indexes In the case you are building your own application this is very logical, but when you use a CMS like Drupal, that are people have developed and tuned, is this approach valid? I mean, aren't Drupal tables already fine-tuned for performance? Even if I try to see which queries are the slow ones, what could I do about it? Re-write Drupal core?!?

  • Filtering across two ManyToMany fields

    - by KVISH
I have a User model and an Event model. I have the following for both: class Event(models.Model): ... timestamp = models.DateTimeField() organization_map = models.ManyToManyField(Organization) class User(AuthUser): ... subscribed_orgs = models.ManyToManyField('Organization') I want to find all events that were created in a certain timeframe and find the users who are subscribed to those organizations. I know how to write SQL for this (it's very easy), but whats the pythonic way of doing this using Django ORM? I'm trying as per below: orgs = Organization.objects.all() events = Event.objects.filter(timestamp__gt=min_time) # Min time is the time I want to start from events = events.filter(organization_map__in=orgs) But from there, how do I map to users who have that organization as a subscription? I'm trying to map it like so: users = User.objects.filter(subscribed_orgs__in=...

  • Should I change $_REQUEST to $_POST

    - by Scarface
Hey guys quick question, I have a checkbox system where a list of items can be checked and deleted on the click of a button. I currently use request and it does the job but I was wondering if $_REQUEST was some sort of security risk or improper. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Should I change to $_POST? If so, what is the best way to go about it? foreach ($_REQUEST as $key=>$value) { if (substr($key,0,3)==="img") { $id = substr($key,3); if(isset($_REQUEST['Delete'])) { $sql = 'SELECT file_name,username FROM images WHERE id=?'; $stmt = $conn->prepare($sql); $result=$stmt->execute(array($id)); while ($row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) { $image=$row['file_name']; $user=$row['username']; $myFile = "$user/images/$image"; unlink($myFile); } <input id=\"img".$id."\" name=\"img".$id."\" type=\"checkbox\">

  • how to pull and display range (min-max) data for each page in pagination?

    - by Ty W
I have a table of data that is searchable and sortable, but likely to produce hundreds or thousands of results for broad searches. Assuming the user searches for "foo" and sorts the foos in descending price order I'd like to show a quick-jump select menu like so: <option value="1">Page 1 ($25,000,000 - $1,625,000)</option> <option value="2">Page 2 ($1,600,000 - $1,095,000)</option> <option value="3">Page 3 ($1,095,000 - $815,000)</option> <option value="4">Page 4 ($799,900 - $699,000)</option> ... Is there an efficient way of querying for this information directly from the DB? I've been grabbing all of the matching records and using PHP to calculate the min and max value for each page which seems inefficient and likely to cause scaling problems. The only possible technique I've been able to come up with is some way of having a calculated variable that increments every X records (X records to a page), grouping by that, and selecting MIN/MAX for each page grouping... unfortunately I haven't been able to come up with a way to generate that variable.

  • Generic Dictionary - Getting Conversion Error

    - by pm_2
The following code is giving me an error: // GetDirectoryList() returns Dictionary<string, DirectoryInfo> Dictionary<string, DirectoryInfo> myDirectoryList = GetDirectoryList(); // The following line gives a compile error foreach (Dictionary<string, DirectoryInfo> eachItem in myDirectoryList) The error it gives is as follows: Cannot convert type 'System.Collections.Generic.KeyValuePair<string,System.IO.DirectoryInfo>' to 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<string,System.IO.DirectoryInfo>’ My question is: why is it trying to perform this conversion? Can I not use a foreach loop on this type of object?

  • Is this a secure way to structure a mysql_query in PHP

    - by Supernovah
I have tried and tried to achieve an SQL injection by making custom queries to the server outside of firefox. Inside the php, all variables are passed into the query in a string like this. Note, by this stage, $_POST has not been touched. mysql_query('INSERT INTO users (password, username) VALUES(' . sha1($_POST['password']) . ',' . $_POST['username'] . ')); Is that a secure way to make a change?

  • where clausule on field defined by sub-query

    - by stUrb
I have this query which displays some properties and count the number of references to it from an other table: SELECT p.id,p.propName ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM propLoc WHERE propLoc.propID = p.id ) AS number FROM property as p WHERE p.category != 'natural' This generates a good table with all the information I want to filter: id | propName | number 3 | Name 1 | 3 4 | Name 2 | 1 5 | Name 3 | 0 6 | Name 4 | 10 etc etc I now want to filter out the properties with number <= 0 So I tried to add an AND number > 0 But it reacts with Unknown column 'number' in 'where clause' apparently you can't filter on a name specified by a subquery? How can I achieve my goal?

  • What sort of schema can I use to accommodate manual date based data entries?

    - by meder
I have an admin where users from multiple properties can enter in monthly statistics for twitter/facebook followers. We do not have access to the real data/db so this is why a manual entry. The form looks like this: Type ( radio, select **one** only ): - Twitter - Facebook Followers/Fans ( textfield ): Property (dropdown): Hotel A, Hotel B Date Start: mm/dd/yyyy (textfield) Date End: mm/dd/yyyy (textfield) Question 1.1: Since I am only keeping track of month per month, the date start/end fields which I have already created might be too specific. Would it be a better idea just to have a start month/year and and month/year if that's the only thing I care about? Question 1.2: What schema could I use for month to month statistics if I were to change the date start and end textfields to start month/year and end month/year dropdowns?

  • INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE with WHERE?

    - by Raven
Hi! I'm doing a INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE but I need the update part to be conditional, only doing the update if some extra condition has changed. However, WHERE is not allowed on this UPDATE. Is there any workaround for this? I can't do combinations of INSERT/UPDATE/SELECT since this needs to work over a replication.
