  • jQuery > reset popup window 's x and y relative to icon that launched the window

    - by Scott B
    I have a jQuery jPicker colorpicker that is bound to an input text field and opens onclick of a small picker.gif icon. The problem I'm having is that (1) The colorpicker that opens does not appear to be positioned according to the x/y position of the picker.gif (it opens far away from the click point) and (2) The colorpicker does not seem to be aware of the viewport's scroll position (the top of the colorpicker is partially hidden at the top of the window). I'd like to use jQuery to reposition the colorpalette (1) Based on the x/y position of the input that its bound to and (2) reset it's top position based on the viewport's visible Y position. Here is the script where I am creating a new jPicker and binding it to my input text fields for header and sidebar... $('#myHeaderColor').jPicker ( {}, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); }, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); } ); $('#mySidebarColor').jPicker ( {}, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); }, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); } );

  • Display loading while webservice is running

    - by poseid
    On the initial request to a page, I trigger a webservice and want to display a loading message. When the page has finished loading, I want to remove the waiting message from screen, but display it again when a change event in a checkbox triggers an Ajax call with another loading message. This code is not behaving to the given spec: $(document).ready( $(function() { $('#loadingDiv').hide(); $('#productsDropDown') .change(function() { var prodValue = $(this).val(); $('#proddate').load('getpdate.php', {prod: prodValue }); }); $('#loadingDiv') .ajaxStart(function() { $(this).show(); }) .ajaxStop(function() { $(this).hide(); }) ; }); ); what am I doing wrong?

  • JQuery and PHP validation problem?

    - by DuH
    I want to do the validation on my PHP side and then have my JQuery code display your changes have been saved when the submit button is clicked but the JQuery code states that the changes have been saved even when the validation fails. How can i fix this so that PHP can do the validation and then JQuery can do its thing when PHP has finished its validation? Here is my Jquery code. $(function() { $('#changes-saved').hide(); $('.save-button').click(function() { $.post($('#contact-form').attr('action'), $('#contact-form').serialize(), function(html) { $('div.contact-info-form').html(html); $('#changes-saved').hide(); $('#changes-saved').html('Your changes have been saved!').fadeIn(4000).show(); }); $('a').click(function () { $('#changes-saved').empty(); $('#changes-saved').hide(); }); return false; // prevent normal submit }); });

  • jquery contains with class

    - by proee
    I'm using jQuery :contains selector to filter through some link tags. The following code works great. $('a:contains('string').each(function(i){ //do some stuff }); I'd like only run this function if the anchor tags are inside a specific class, I've tried the following but it does not appear to work: $('my_class a:contains('string').each(function(i){ //do some stuff });

  • jquery trouble with getJSON call.

    - by Yo-L
    Hi guys. Got some basic problem again. I need to modify a function that previously returned a in code written object. Im now trying to get the object from json through $.getJSON function getEventData() { var result = ''; $.getJSON("ajax.php?cmd=getbydate&fromdate=&todate=", function(data){ result = data; }); return result; } Problem is that result isn't set in the callback function for obvious reasons. Do you guys have a solution for this?

  • Backbone: Easiest way to maintain reference to 'this' for a Model inside callbacks

    - by Garrett
    var JavascriptHelper = Backbone.Model.extend("JavascriptHelper", {}, // never initialized as an instance { myFn: function() { $('.selector').live('click', function() { this.anotherFn(); // FAIL! }); }, anotherFn: function() { alert('This is never called from myFn()'); } } ); The usual _.bindAll(this, ...) approach won't work here because I am never initializing this model as an instance. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Thread mutex behaviour

    - by Alberteddu
    Hi there, I'm learning C. I'm writing an application with multiple threads; I know that when a variable is shared between two or more threads, it is better to lock/unlock using a mutex to avoid deadlock and inconsistency of variables. This is very clear when I want to change or view one variable. int i = 0; /** Global */ static pthread_mutex_t mutex = PTHREAD_MUTEX_INITIALIZER; /** Thread 1. */ pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex); i++; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex); /** Thread 2. */ pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex); i++; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex); This is correct, I think. The variable i, at the end of the executions, contains the integer 2. Anyway, there are some situations in which I don't know exactly where to put the two function calls. For example, suppose you have a function obtain(), which returns a global variable. I need to call that function from within the two threads. I have also two other threads that call the function set(), defined with a few arguments; this function will set the same global variable. The two functions are necessary when you need to do something before getting/setting the var. /** (0) */ /** Thread 1, or 2, or 3... */ if(obtain() == something) { if(obtain() == somethingElse) { // Do this, sometimes obtain() and sometimes set(random number) (1) } else { // Do that, just obtain(). (2) } } else { // Do this and do that (3) // If # of thread * 3 > 10, then set(3*10) For example. (4) } /** (5) */ Where I have to lock, and where I have to unlock? The situation can be, I think, even more complex. I will appreciate an exhaustive answer. Thank you in advance. —Alberto

  • Authlogic Help! Registering a new user when currently logged-in as a user not working.

    - by looloobs
    Hi Just as a disclaimer I am new to rails and programming in general so apologize for misunderstanding something obvious. I have Authlogic with activation up and running. So for my site I would like my users who are logged in to be able to register other users. The new user would pick their login and password through the activation email, but the existing user needs to put them in by email, position and a couple other attributes. I want that to be done by the existing user. The problem I am running into, if I am logged in and then try and create a new user it just tries to update the existing user and doesn't create a new one. I am not sure if there is some way to fix this by having another session start??? If that is even right/possible I wouldn't know how to go about implementing it. I realize without knowing fully about my application it may be difficult to answer this, but does this even sound like the right way to go about this? Am I missing something here? Users Controller: class UsersController < ApplicationController before_filter :require_no_user, :only => [:new, :create] before_filter :require_user, :only => [:show, :edit, :update] def new @user = User.new end def create @user = User.new if @user.signup!(params) @user.deliver_activation_instructions! flash[:notice] = "Your account has been created. Please check your e-mail for your account activation instructions!" redirect_to profile_url else render :action => :new end end def show @user = @current_user end def edit @user = @current_user end def update @user = @current_user # makes our views "cleaner" and more consistent if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) flash[:notice] = "Account updated!" redirect_to profile_url else render :action => :edit end end end My User_Session Controller: class UserSessionsController < ApplicationController before_filter :require_no_user, :only => [:new, :create] before_filter :require_user, :only => :destroy def new @user_session = UserSession.new end def create @user_session = UserSession.new(params[:user_session]) if @user_session.save flash[:notice] = "Login successful!" if @user_session.user.position == 'Battalion Commander' : redirect_to battalion_path(@user_session.user.battalion_id) else end else render :action => :new end end def destroy current_user_session.destroy flash[:notice] = "Logout successful!" redirect_back_or_default new_user_session_url end end

  • Using deprecated binders and C++0x lambdas

    - by Sumant
    C++0x has deprecated the use of old binders such as bind1st and bind2nd in favor of generic std::bind. C++0x lambdas bind nicely with std::bind but they don't bind with classic bind1st and bind2nd because by default lambdas don't have nested typedefs such as argument_type, first_argument_type, second_argument_type, and result_type. So I thought std::function can serve as a standard way to bind lambdas to the old binders because it exposes the necessary typedefs. However, using std::function is hard to use in this context because it forces you to spell out the function-type while instantiating it. auto bound = std::bind1st(std::function<int (int, int)>([](int i, int j){ return i < j; }), 10); // hard to use auto bound = std::bind1st(std::make_function([](int i, int j){ return i < j; }), 10); // nice to have but does not compile. I could not find a convenient object generator for std::function. Something like std::make_fuction would be nice to have. Does such a thing exist? If not, is there any other better way of binding lamdas to the classic binders?

  • Calling back a functions value

    - by Jason Kelly
    I need your help, I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I've had my head wrapped around it only to no avail. Ideally, i'd like to setup two functions. 1 function: select_date() to interact with the user to select a date from the jQuery Date picker. If the dialog is closed then return as null. Then a second function: test() to check wether or not a date was picked/selected.' Here's my delema, when the function test() is executed, an alert box pops up and says "undefined" which means, I never get to select a date and it always being "undefined" I dont see what I am doing wrong here and everything seems logical to me. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <link href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.21/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.js"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.21/jquery-ui.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function select_date() { var sdate $('#dd').dialog({ autoOpen: true, modal: true, overlay: { opacity: 0.5, background: 'black' }, title: "title", height: 265, width: 235, draggable: false, resizable: false }); $('#d1').datepicker({ onSelect: function () { $("#dd").dialog("close"); } }); return sdate } function test() { var x = select_date() alert(x) } </script> <style type="text/css"> #d1 {font-size:64%;} </style> </head> <body> <div id="dd"> <div id="d1"> </div> </div> <a href="javascript:test()">test</a> </body> </html>

  • What is the best practice for including jQuery ext functions?

    - by Metropolis
    Hey everyone, Currently I have a file that I named JQuery.ext.js which I am including in all of my pages. Inside this file I have numerous functions that do things like the following, (function($) { /** * Checks to see is the value inside ele is blank * @param message string The message that needs to be displayed if the element is blank * @return bool */ $.fn.isEmpty = function(message) { var b_IsEmpty = false; //Loop through all elements this.each(function() { //Check to see if an empty value is found if($(this).val().length <= 0) { //If message is not blank if(message) { alert(message); $(this).focus().select(); } b_IsEmpty = true; return false; } return true; }); //Return false if the evaluation failed, otherwise return the jquery object so we can reuse it return (b_IsEmpty) ? true : false; }; /** * Checks to see if the value inside ele is numbers only * @param message string The message that needs to be displayed if the element is not numeric * @return bool */ $.fn.isNumeric = function(message) { var expression = /^[0-9]+$/; var b_IsNumeric = true; //Loop through elements checking each one this.each( function() { //Check to see if this value is not numeric if(!$(this).val().match(expression) && $(this).val().length > 0) { //If message is not blank if(message) { alert(message); $(this).focus().select(); } b_IsNumeric = false; } return b_IsNumeric; }); return b_IsNumeric; }; })(jQuery); Is there another way to do this? or is this the way most people do it? Thanks for any help, Metropolis

  • [JS] How to manipulate a PHP Array in javascript?

    - by rasouza
    I have an Array in PHP which contains data from database. And it prints out also as a table in the same page which has an AJAX delete function. Trying to explain better The array contains debt sums related to many people, it is the application's main function. In the same page, there is a table containing every debt record related to the array, which can be deleted or edited using AJAX. I have coded the part of deleting the record and removing the TR entry, but it's not enough: I'd like to change also the debt sum using AJAX which is an PHP Array. What I have I have the JS function which removes the TR when the delete button is clicked // TR Fading when deleted $('.delete') .click(function() { $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: 'history/delete/id/'+$(this).attr('id') }); $(this).parent().parent().fadeOut(); return false; }); and I have the PHP array (image)

  • Javascript & jquery : Unable to increment within a form

    - by Daniyal
    I got a simple increment function like this: $(function(){ $("#inc").click(function(){ var value = parseInt($(":text[name='ice_id']").val()) + 1; $(":text[name='ice_id']").val(value); }); $("#dec").click(function(){ var value = parseInt($(":text[name='ice_id']").val()) - 1; $(":text[name='ice_id']").val(value); }); }); the ice_id text field is embedded within a form <form id="masterSubmit" name="masterSubmit" action="" method="post"> <td><input id="ice_id" type="text" name="ice_id" size="16" maxlength="15"></td> </form> When I try now to increment , it successfully increments a number, but shows the following weird behavior: It 'refreshes' the site, so that the content of the text field is gone. This behavior disappears, if I comment out the form tags ...unfortunately the form tags are required for an AJAX-submit. Are there any ways to avoid this problem? Thanks in advance for any hints and best regards Daniyal

  • onPageLoad is not working properly in Firefox Extension Development

    - by Tharaka Deshan
    I am new to Firefox Extension Development and doing my 1st program. Simply I needed to pop up a alert once it loaded the page. My code was like this: var myExtension = { init: function() { if(gBrowser) gBrowser.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", this.onPageLoad, false); }, onPageLoad: function(aEvent) { alert("Loaded"); } } window.addEventListener("load", function load(event){ window.removeEventListener("load", load, false); myExtension.init(); },false); But I am getting the alert box for couple of times. Then I found about "#document" and then I added a IF condition: onPageLoad: function(aEvent) { if (aEvent.originalTarget.nodeName == '#document') { alert("Loaded"); } } Unfortunately still I am getting the same. Please advise me on this.

  • Jquery: fade menu out when clicking on anything EXCEPT the menu itself, short piece of code.

    - by ExodusNicholas
    .saf_search is a button, when it's clicked, the menu .lisearch fades in, when you click anywhere on the page EXCEPT for on the menu .lisearch, then it should fade out(that's how it's SUPPOSED to work) Does anyone know why this isn't working? It fades in, and the first time i click anywhere on the page it fades out, but the second time i try to fade in the menu, it will quickly fade out again without me clicking the document. i think this has to do with .one, but i had it working before my hard drive crashed, and now i can't figure out how to get it working again... $('.saf_search').click(function() { $('.lisearch').fadeIn(200); }); $(document).click(function(){ jQuery(".lisearch").click(function(){ return false; }); jQuery(document).one("click", function() { jQuery(".lisearch").fadeOut(); }); });

  • lapply slower than for-loop when used for a BiomaRt query. Is that expected?

    - by ptocquin
    I would like to query a database using BiomaRt package. I have loci and want to retrieve some related information, let say description. I first try to use lapply but was surprise by the time needed for the task to be performed. I thus tried a more basic for-loop and get a faster result. Is that expected or is something wrong with my code or with my understanding of apply ? I read other posts dealing with *apply vs for-loop performance (Here, for example) and I was aware that improved performance should not be expected but I don't understand why performance here is actually lower. Here is a reproducible example. 1) Loading the library and selecting the database : library("biomaRt") athaliana <- useMart("plants_mart_14") athaliana <- useDataset("athaliana_eg_gene",mart=athaliana) 2) Querying the database : loci <- c("at1g01300", "at1g01800", "at1g01900", "at1g02335", "at1g02790", "at1g03220", "at1g03230", "at1g04040", "at1g04110", "at1g05240" ) I create a function for the use in lapply : foo <- function(loci) { getBM("description","tair_locus",loci,athaliana) } When I use this function on the first element : > system.time(foo(cwp_loci[1])) utilisateur système écoulé 0.020 0.004 1.599 When I use lapply to retrieve the data for all values : > system.time(lapply(loci, foo)) utilisateur système écoulé 0.220 0.000 16.376 I then created a new function, adding a for-loop : foo2 <- function(loci) { for (i in loci) { getBM("description","tair_locus",loci[i],athaliana) } } Here is the result : > system.time(foo2(loci)) utilisateur système écoulé 0.204 0.004 10.919 Of course, this will be applied to a big list of loci, so the best performing option is needed. I thank you for assistance. EDIT Following recommendation of @MartinMorgan Simply passing the vector loci to getBM greatly improves the query efficiency. Simpler is better. > system.time(lapply(loci, foo)) utilisateur système écoulé 0.236 0.024 110.512 > system.time(foo2(loci)) utilisateur système écoulé 0.208 0.040 116.099 > system.time(foo(loci)) utilisateur système écoulé 0.028 0.000 6.193
