  • How can I get the text color of a button using the Substance LaF?

    - by DR
In my Java application I have to custom-paint a control and for that I need to use the same font colors as JButton. (Enabled an disabled) I don't want to to hard-code them, because the user can change the Substance skin at runtime. I'm aware of the ColorSchemes but I'm not sure how to proceed once I have the color scheme of the current skin. Also the Substance documentation says something about creating your own color scheme, but I just can't figure out the way to retrieve a certain color.

  • Ternary operator in if-statement?

    - by Pindatjuh
I've written the following if-statement in Java: if(methodName.equals("set" + this.name) || isBoolean() ? methodName.equals("is" + this.name) : methodName.equals("get" + this.name)) { ... } Is this a good practice to write such expressions in if, to separate state from condition? And can this expression be simplified?

  • Projects with browsable source using dependency injection w/ guice?

    - by André
I often read about dependency injection and I did research on google and I understand in theory what it can do and how it works, but I'd like to see an actual code base using it (Java/guice would be preferred). Can anyone point me to an open source project, where I can see, how it's really used? I think browsing the code and seeing the whole setup shows me more than the ususal snippets in the introduction articles you find around the web. Thanks in advance!

  • MySQL and SQLite differences in SQL

    - by Darth
I'm writing java application that is using both SQLite and MySQL using JDBC. Are there any differences in SQL for those databases? Can I use same queries for both SQLite and MySQL, or is there any db specific stuff, that doesn't work on the other one? As far I've worked only with MySQL, so I don't really know much about SQLite.

  • Is it possible to create a DateFormatter which converts a two-digit year into a four-digit year?

    - by DR
In my Java application I use a DateFormat instance to parse date inputs. DateFormat fmt; fmt = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.DEFAULT) // dd.MM.yyyy for de_DE The problem is that the user insists to enter dates in the form 31.12.11. Unfortunately this is parsed to 31.12.11. (0011-12-31 in ISO format) Instead I want the parsed date to become 31.12.2011 (2011-12-31 in ISO format). Can I modify the date format to somehow parse inputs that way?

    - by Virat Kadaru
I am building an application in java swing and I am using the following code to give the UI a native OS look try { UIManager.setLookAndFeel( UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } On a OS X, the look is fine, but on windows (XP and 7) the buttons look like this. I have used this exact same code on other projects and it works fine. But in this particular project I get a completely different look. Thanks in advance!

  • Reading three words and sorting them in lexicographic order

    - by Derrick
I am trying to create a program that asks the User to type three words and sort them in lexicographic order. EXAMPLE; Enter three words separated by spaces: Pear Orange Apple Apple Orange Pear The program is working fine (if I attempt the above example) except for one type of combination example that I will show below. EXAMPLE; Enter three words separated by spaces: Orange Apple Pear Apple Pear Pear The program is skipping the first word (Orange) if it is supposed to appear in the middle of the three words. I believe that this line of code is affecting the program because it says that "this assigned value is never used" but I'm not sure how to fix it since I'm still an entry Java learner. middle = firstWord; Because of that line being unused, it's why Pear appeared twice. import java.util.*; public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner wordInput = new Scanner(System.in); String firstWord; String secondWord; String thirdWord; System.out.println("Enter three words separated by spaces: "); firstWord = wordInput.next(); secondWord = wordInput.next(); thirdWord = wordInput.next(); String top = firstWord; String bottom = firstWord; if( top.compareTo(secondWord) > 0) { top = secondWord; } if( top.compareTo(thirdWord) > 0) { top = thirdWord; } if( bottom.compareTo(secondWord) < 0) { bottom = secondWord; } if( bottom.compareTo(thirdWord) < 0) { bottom = thirdWord; } String middle; if( !firstWord.equals(bottom) && !firstWord.equals(top) ) { middle = firstWord; } if( !secondWord.equals(bottom) && !secondWord.equals(top) ) { middle = secondWord; } else { middle = thirdWord; } System.out.println( top ); System.out.println( middle ); System.out.println( bottom ); } } Does anyone what I am missing or doing wrong? :( Please and thank you for any help!

  • Is there a good NumPy clone for Jython?

    - by jbrogdon
I'm a relatively new convert to Python. I've written some code to grab/graph data from various sources to automate some weekly reports and forecasts. I've been intrigued by the Jython concept, and would like to port some Python code that I've written to Jython. In order to do this quickly, I need a NumPy clone for Jython (or Java). Is there anything like this out there?

  • How to get N random string from a {a1|a2|a3} format string?

    - by Pentium10
Take this string as input: string s="planets {Sun|Mercury|Venus|Earth|Mars|Jupiter|Saturn|Uranus|Neptune}" How would I choose randomly N from the set, then join them with comma. The set is defined between {} and options are separated with | pipe. The order is maintained. Some output could be: string output1="planets Sun, Venus"; string output2="planets Neptune"; string output3="planets Earth, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune"; string output4="planets Uranus, Saturn";// bad example, order is not correct Java 1.5

  • How does JVM handles dynamic allocation

    - by Nile
I want to understand how JVM manages heap for the dynamic allocations. Since every java program is invoked as a thread, when does JVM's garbage collector come into play. Also, how things work for javascript's dynamic allocation ?
