  I have read about python sched (task schedular), it works like a cron. but I have a question : lets say if i schedule a function to ryn after every 2 hours and in the mean time my system gets shut down, then I again restart the system...did the schedular automatically starts and will run the function after 2 hours? or i have to start that again after shutting down the system? did sched work like a deamon?

My first idea was to make a list and then append things to it, but that didn't work too well. Then I thought of starting with a vector, and making a list out of that, at the end. Then I thought of making a matrix, and making a list out of that at the end. Not sure which way to even approach this. Any hints? thanks

  Ok I'm trying to make a C++ DLL that I can then call and reference in a c# App. I've already made a simple dll using the numberous guides out there, however when I try to reference it in the C# app I get the error Unable to load DLL 'SDES.dll': The specified module could not be found. • Static libraries in version-cross-compiled program

  I have a unix command line app (with big nasty makefile) that I'm trying to run on a mac. I am compiling it on a 10.6 system, with all of the appropriate libraries of course. The deployment environment is a 10.5 system, with no extra libraries. I compiled without -dynamic, and it appears to have static libraries, correctly. When I run it on the 10.6 system, it works. However, when I run it on the 10.5 system, I get: dyld: unknown required load command 0x80000022 I got this same error when I compiled things for the 10.6 system using the 10.5 xcode, so it looks like a version mis-match type problem. However, I used gcc-4.0, and $CFLAGS = -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.5.sdk -mmacosx-version-min=10.5 so it SHOULD be set up for 10.5... any ideas? thanks Editing an ancient question: I have the exact same problem on a different computer. This time I am at 10.5.8, fully update, the same executable works on 10.6 still. Has anyone had any luck with this in the months since I asked this?

Obviously this would be excluding the OO features like virtual functions and vtable features etc. I am wondering whether, when you are programming in a latency-critical area (and you aren't worried about OO features) whether you could stick with basic C++ or would C be better?

• How to get a debug flow of execution in C++

  Hi, I work on a global trading system which supports many users. Each user can book,amend,edit,delete trades. The system is regulated by a central deal capture service. The deal capture service informs all the user of any updates that occur. The problem comes when we have crashes, as the production environment is impossible to re-create on a test system, I have to rely on crash dumps and log files. However this doesn't tell me what the user has been doing. I'd like a system that would (at the time of crashing) dump out a history of what the user has been doing. Anything that I add has to go into the live environment so it can't impact performance too much. Ideas wise I was thinking of a MACRO at the top of each function which acted like a stack trace (only I could supply additional user information, like trade id's, user dialog choices, etc ..) The system would record stack traces (on a per thread basis) and keep a history in a cyclic buffer (varying in size, depending on how much history you wanted to capture). Then on crash, I could dump this history stack. I'd really like to hear if anyone has a better solution, or if anyone knows of an existing framework? Thanks Rich

  Hello, I am looking for some Linux library/programming language that can be used on a variety of Linux platforms and can operate in both textual and GUI mode interfaces. For example YCP (the Yast programming language) will display in GUI if in Gnome/KDE environment and run in text/ncurses mode when display is not available. The problem is that YCP is SUSE specific. • SSL_accept hangs... sometimes ( C, linux, openssl )

  I'm currently working on an embedded linux system. There are two crucial client applications on the system that connect to an external server ( on another embedded system, all written in C ). The two apps use different certificates. The ssl connection works... At least usually, but from time to time an error occures: the server hangs on SSL_accept() when accepting connection from one of the applications - the one using older certificates. Restarting the server application does not help, nor does restarting the client - the only way is to reboot the server system, unless I create a symbilic link to the new certificates used by the other app - only then will restarting the server app work. Never does the error occur when both applications use the same, new certificate. Could this happen due to some strange openssl cache or something like that?

• Does OOP make sense for small scripts?

  I mostly write small scripts in python, about 50 - 250 lines of code. I usually don't use any objects, just straightforward procedural programming. I know OOP basics and I have used object in other programming languages before, but for small scripts I don't see how objects would improve them. But maybe that is just my limited experience with OOP. Am I missing something by not trying harder to use objects, or does OOP just not make a lot of sense for small scripts?

  I'm trying to programmatically create a parameter block for a function ( along the lines of this blog post ). I'm starting with a CommandMetadata object (from an existing function). I can create the ParameterMetadata object and set things like the ParameterType, the name, as well as some attributes. The problem I'm running into is that when I use the GetParamBlock method of the ProxyCommand class, none of my attributes that I set in the Attributes collection of the ParameterMetadata are generated. The problem this causes is that when the GetParamBlock is called, the new parameter is not annotated with the appropriate Parameter attribute. • lapply slower than for-loop when used for a BiomaRt query. Is that expected?

  I would like to query a database using BiomaRt package. I have loci and want to retrieve some related information, let say description. I first try to use lapply but was surprise by the time needed for the task to be performed. I thus tried a more basic for-loop and get a faster result. Is that expected or is something wrong with my code or with my understanding of apply ? I read other posts dealing with *apply vs for-loop performance (Here, for example) and I was aware that improved performance should not be expected but I don't understand why performance here is actually lower.
