• comparing two cursors in oracle instead of using MINUS

  The following query takes more than 3 minutes to run because tables contain massive amounts of data: SELECT RTRIM(LTRIM(A.HEAD)), A.EFFECTIVE_DATE, FROM TABLE_1 A WHERE A.TYPE_OF_ACTION='6' AND A.EFFECTIVE_DATE >= ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE,-15) MINUS SELECT RTRIM(LTRIM(B.head)), B.EFFECTIVE_DATE, FROM TABLE_2 B In our system a query gets killed if it is running for more than 8 seconds. Is there a way to run the queries individually ..put them in cursors..compare and then get the results? that way each query will be ran individually rather than as one massive query which takes 3 minutes. How would two cursors be compared to mimic the MINUS?

I can do this right now by first querying to find the number of rows and then running another query that sorts and selects the nth row: select count(*) as `total` from mydata; select * from mydata order by `field` asc limit 37,1; Can I combine these two queries into a single query?

Now assume we're limited to HTTP GET. Is there some kind of a standard solution for encoding structured data in HTTP GET request parameters? I can easily imagine something like: Locale=en& Layout.Block.header=hide& Layout.Block.footer=hide& Layout.Block.navigation=minimize& Query.What=water& Query.When.Start=2010-01-01 But what I'm looking for is a "standard" syntax, if there's any. ps.   Hello, I have this question relating to Lucene. I have a form and I get a text from it and I want to perform a full text search in several fields. Suppose I get from the input the text "textToLook". I have a Lucene Analyzer with several filters. One of them is lowerCaseFilter, so when I create the index, words will be lowercased. Imagine I want to search into two fields field1 and field2 so the lucene query would be something like this (note that 'textToLook' now is 'texttolook'): field1: texttolook* field2:texttolook* In my class I have something like this to create the query. I works when there is no wildcard. String text = "textToLook"; String[] fields = {"field1", "field2"}; //analyser is the same as the one used for indexing Analyzer analyzer = fullTextEntityManager.getSearchFactory().getAnalyzer("customAnalyzer"); MultiFieldQueryParser parser = new MultiFieldQueryParser(fields, analyzer); org.apache.lucene.search.Query queryTextoLibre = parser.parse(text); With this code the query would be: field1: texttolook field2:texttolook but If I set text to "textToLook*" I get field1: textToLook* field2:textToLook* which won't find correctly as the indexes are in lowercase. I have read in lucene website this: " Wildcard, Prefix, and Fuzzy queries are not passed through the Analyzer, which is the component that performs operations such as stemming and lowercasing" My problem cannot be solved by setting the behaviour case insensitive cause my analyzer has other fields which for examples remove some suffixes of words. I think I can solve the problem by getting how the text would be after going through the filters of my analyzer, then I could add the "*" and then I could build the Query with MultiFieldQueryParser. So in this example I woud get "textToLower" and after being passed to to these filters I could get "texttolower". After this I could make "textotolower*". But, is there any way to get the value of my text variable after going through all my analyzer's filters? How can I get all the filters of my analyzer? Is this possible? Thanks

  The authlogic rails gem is doing a LOWER in the sql query. SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE (LOWER(`users`.email) = '[email protected]') LIMIT 1 I want to get rid of the LOWER part since it seems to be slowing down the query by quite a bit. I'd prefer to just lower the case in the code since this query seems to be expensive. I'm not sure where to change this behavior in authlogic. Thanks!

  I have a table T (structure below) which initially contains all-NULL values in an integer order column: col1 varchar(30), col2 varchar(30), order int NULL I also have a way to order the "colN" columns, e.g. SELECT * FROM T ORDER BY some_expression_involving_col1_and_col2 What's the best way to assign - IN SQL - numeric order values 1-N to the order table, so that the order values match the order of rows returned by the above ORDER BY? In other words, I would like a single query (Sybase SQL syntax so no Oracle's rowcount) which assigns order values so that SELECT * FROM T ORDER BY order returns 100% same order of rows as the query above. The query does NOT necessarily need to update the table T in place, I'm OK with creating a copy of the table T2 if that'll make the query simpler. NOTE1: A solution must be real query or a set of queries, not involving a loop or a cursor. NOTE2: Assume that the data is uniquely orderable according to the order by above - no need to worry about situation when 2 rows can be assigned the same order at random. NOTE3: I would prefer a generic solution, but if you wish a specific example of ordering expression, let's say: SELECT * FROM T ORDER BY CASE WHEN col1="" THEN "AAAAAA" ELSE col1 END, ISNULL(col2, "ZZZ")

  I have a RichTextBox that I write a string to every time I click a Form button. The string ends with a newline so each time I add a string, it appends to the bottom of the RichTextBox. Each string begins with the string "Long" or "Short" and ends with Environment.NewLine. I'd like to color each line red if it beings with "Long" and blue if it begins with "Short". How can I do this? • Entity Framework Duplicate type name within an assembly (6.1.0)

  I am not sure what is going on but I keep getting the following exception when doing a query. "Duplicate type name within an assembly." I have not been able to find a solution on the web. I had resolved the issue by removing entity framework from all the projects in the solutions and re-installing using nugget. Then all of the sudden the exception is back. I have verified my table schema over and over and find nothing wrong with. These are called from a string array in strings.xml <string name="app_name">Taxi Me</string> <string-array name="taxi_array"> <item>Barrys Taxi</item> <item>Boom Taxi</item> </string-array> What i was trying to do is create subitems for these so that i can show fields such as address and contact details etc. I made a customlistview a while back but cant work out how i can do it using the strings.xml file?   Suppose you want to get a record from database which returns a large data and requires multiple joins. So my question would be is it better to use a single query to check if data exists and get the result if it exists. Or do a more simple query to check if data exists then id record exists, query once again to get the result knowing that it exists. Example: 3 tables a, b and ab(junction table) select * from from a, b, ab where condition and condition and condition and condition etc... or select id from a, b ab where condition then if exists do the query above. So I don't know if there is any reason to do the second. Any ideas how this affects DB performance or does it matter at all?

  a string like: 'www.test.com' is good. a string like: 'www.888.com' is good. a string like: 'stackoverflow.com' is good. a string like: 'GOoGle.Com' is good. why ? because those are valid urls. it does not necessarely matter if they have been registered or not. now bad strings are: 'goog*d\x' 'manydots...com' why because you can't register those urls. if I have a string in java which is supposed to be a good url what's the best way to validate it ? thanks a lot

• Silverlight/Web Service Serializing Interface for use Client Side

  I have a Silverlight solution that references a third-party web service. This web service generates XML, which is then processed into objects for use in Silverlight binding. At one point we the processing of XML to objects was done client-side, but we ran into performance issues and decided to move this processing to the proxies in the hosting web project to improve performance (which it did). This is obviously a gross over-simplification, but should work. My basic project structure looks like this. Solution Solution.Web - Holds the web page that hosts Silverlight as well as proxies that access web services and processes as required and obviously the references to those web services). Solution.Infrastructure - Holds references to the proxy web services in the .Web project, all genned code from serialized objects from those proxies and code around those objects that need to be client-side. Solution.Book - The particular project that uses the objects in question after processed down into Infrastructure. I've defined the following Interface and Class in the Web project. They represent the type of objects that the XML from the original third-party gets transformed into and since this is the only project in the Silverlight app that is actually server-side, that was the place to define and use them. //Doesn't get much simpler than this. public interface INavigable { string Description { get; set; } } //Very simple class too public class IndexEntry : INavigable { public List<IndexCM> CMItems { get; set; } public string CPTCode { get; set; } public string DefinitionOfAbbreviations { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string EtiologyCode { get; set; } public bool HighScore { get; set; } public IndexToTabularCommandArguments IndexToTabularCommandArgument { get; set; } public bool IsExpanded { get; set; } public string ManifestationCode { get; set; } public string MorphologyCode { get; set; } public List<TextItem> NonEssentialModifiersAndQualifyingText { get; set; } public string OtherItalics { get; set; } public IndexEntry Parent { get; set; } public int Score { get; set; } public string SeeAlsoReference { get; set; } public string SeeReference { get; set; } public List<IndexEntry> SubEntries { get; set; } public int Words { get; set; } } Again; both of these items are defined in the Web project. Notice that IndexEntry implments INavigable. When the code for IndexEntry is auto-genned in the Infrastructure project, the definition of the class does not include the implmentation of INavigable. After discovering this, I thought "no problem, I'll create another partial class file reiterating the implmentation". Unfortunately (I'm guessing because it isn't being serialized), that interface isn't recognized in the Infrastructure project, so I can't simply do that. Here's where it gets really weird. The BOOK project CAN see the INavigable interface. In fact I use it in Book, though Book has no reference to the Web Service in the Web project where the thing is define, though Infrastructure does. Just as a test, I linked to the INavigable source file from indside the Infrastructure project. That allowed me to reference it in that project and compile, but causes havoc in the Book project, because now there's a conflick between the one define in Infrastructure and the one defined in the Web project's web service. This is behavior I would expect. So, to try and sum up a bit. Web project has a web service that process data from a third-party service and has a class and interface defined in it. The class implements the interface. The Infrastructure project references the web service in the Web Project and the Book project references the Infrastructure project. The implmentation of the interface in the class does NOT serialize down, so the auto-genned code in INfrastructure does not show this relationship, breaking code further down-stream. The Book project, whihc is further down-stream CAN see the interface as defined in the Web Project, even though its only reference is through the Infrastructure project; whihc CAN'T see it. Am I simple missing something easy here? Can I apply an attribute to either the Interface definition or to the its implmentation in the class to ensure its visibility downstream? Anything else I can do here? I know this is a bit convoluted and anyone still with me here, thanks for your patience and any advice you might have. Cheers, Steve

  I have a stored procedure which creates and works with a temporary #table Some of the queries would be tremendously optimized if that temporary #table would have an index created on it. However, creating an index within the stored procedure fails: create procedure test1 as SELECT f1, f2, f3 INTO #table1 FROM main_table WHERE 1 = 2 -- insert rows into #table1 create index my_idx on #table1 (f1) SELECT f1, f2, f3 FROM #table1 (index my_idx) WHERE f1 = 11 -- "QUERY X" When I call the above, the query plan for "QUERY X" shows a table scan. If I simply run the code above outside the stored procedure, the messages show the following warning: Index 'my_idx' specified as optimizer hint in the FROM clause of table '#table1' does not exist. Optimizer will choose another index instead. This can be resolved when running ad-hoc (outside the stored procedure) by splitting the code above in two batches by addding "go" after index creation: create index my_idx on #table1 (f1) go Now, "QUERY X" query plan shows the use of index "my_idx". QUESTION: How do I mimique running the "create index" in a separate batch when it's inside the stored procedure? I can't insert a "go" there like I do with the ad-hoc copy above. P.S. If it matters, this is on Sybase 12.

  I am trying to remake a program I have made in C# in OBJ-C.In C# I used streamreader to search the data file for the line I am looking for then convert that line into a string that I can work with. I have looked at NSScanner but I'm not sure if thats quite waht I'm looking for but I'm by no means a cocoa expert. All I would like to be able to do is have it search a data file for an occurance of a string, then when/if it finds an occurance of that string, it returns the line that string was found on as a string. Any ideas?

I think I can use this: %UserProfile%\Desktop\ However, I'm thinking, that's probably only going to work on an English OS.   I am trying to read in a series of tab delimited text files into existing MySQL tables. The project I work in, however, uses the Criteria API instead of raw SQL, and I haven't found a way to express the same query in that form. I've taken a look on the Restrictions API and the closest I've found is Restions.in(propertyName, collection) but that works the other way around (one value in object, many values to match against). Any ideas?

• MySql - only update some rows if the table exists - do not want an error thrown

  I want to run an update query. The query will be run against multiple databases - not every database will have the table. I don't want the update to be attempted if the table does not exist. I don't want any error to be thrown - I just want the update to be ignored. Any ideas? EDIT: just to be clear - the query is executed in an automated deployment - no human interaction possible. EDIT2: the logic to say whether the update should run or not will need to be in the MySql query itself. This is not being run through a command prompt or batch or managed code.

My MySQL knowledge is rudimentary at best so I could use some guidance on what I should use for the following: I have 2 tables ('bible' and 'books') that I need to search from. "%' ORDER BY likes DESC LIMIT $start, 10 Now, I need to add another part that searches for some pretty advanced stuff.
