  • .NET framework is copied to 'compiler/CLR' and 'GAC?

    - by prosseek
    The book of CLR via C# has this line at page 76. When you install the .NET Framework, tow copies of Microsoft's assembly files are actuall installed. One set is installed into the compiler/CLR directory, and another set is installed into GAC subdirectory I could find the GAC at C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly, but I couldn't find the compiler/CLR thing. What's the physical directory name of compiler/CLR? I mean, where is it? Why there are two GAC in assembly directory? I find GAC_32 and GAC_MSIL.

  • receive xml file as a parameter to a .net web service

    - by fizch
    My company is currently looking into bringing a new piece of third party software in for online ordering. The software does not handle pricing so they are requesting the pricing information from a web service. Their software is passing an XML file as a parameter, and expecting an XML file as a response. I would think that returning an XML file would be pretty straight forward, but I cannot think of a way to receive an XML file as a parameter. Has anyone done this, or am I missing something really obvious?

  • Review of a locked part of an function in C#.NET

    - by Lieven Cardoen
    Is this piece of code where I lock a part of the function correct? Or can it have use drawbacks when multiple sessions ask concurrently for the same Exam? Purpose is that client that first asks for the Exam will assemble it, all next clients will get the cached version. public Exam GetExamByExamDto(ExamDTO examDto, int languageId) { Log.Warn("GetExamByExamDto"); lock (LockString) { if (!ContainsExam(examDto.id, languageId)) { Log.Warn("Assembling ExamDto"); var examAssembler = new ExamAssembler(); var exam = examAssembler.createExam(examDto); if (AddToCache(exam)) { _examDictionary.Add(examDto.id + "_" + languageId, exam); } Log.Warn("Returning non cached ExamDto"); return exam; } } Log.Warn("Returning cached ExamDto"); return _examDictionary[examDto.id + "_" + languageId]; } I have a feeling that this isn't the way to do it.

  • asp.net mvc postback

    - by user266909
    I have a controller with the following two Edit methods. The edit form displays correctly with all additional dropdown lists from the FormViewModel. However, when I changed some field values and submitted the form. None of the changed fields were saved. The fields in the postbask collection have default or null values. I have another edit form which update another table. On submit, the changed values are saved. Does anyone know why? // GET: /Transfers/Edit/5 public ActionResult Edit(int id) { Transfer transfer = myRepository.GetTransfer(id); if (transfer == null) return View("NotFound"); return View(new TransferFormViewModel(transfer)); } // // POST: /Transfers/Edit/5 [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Edit(int id, Transfer collection) { Transfer transfer = vetsRepository.GetTransfer(id); if (transfer == null) return View("NotFound"); else { try { UpdateModel(transfer); vetsRepository.Save(); return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id = transfer.TransfersID }); } catch { ModelState.AddModelErrors(transfer.GetRuleViolations()); return View(new TransferFormViewModel(transfer)); } } }

    Hello, I am sure this has to a comon thing I just can't find it. I am making a combobox from my data source. Basically, This is a projects form and the user needs to select the the primary contact which is contrained by the customer id (GETbyCustomerID) set in another field. I have it working... mostly except the combobox only displays the contact ID which is completely useless to the user. I need to know how to display the First and Last name (both are seperate columns in the table). Any help? I am just using the designer.

  • ASP.net PreInit() Vs Init()

    - by ASP.netBeginner
    From local forum i understood that PreInit can be used to handle the following PreInit() >Master pages can be called dynamically >Themes can be set dynamically >Programatically add controls to controls collection and i read Init() is for Init() In this event, we can read the controls properties (set at design time). We cannot read control values changed by the user because that changed value will get loaded after LoadPostData() event fires. Question I am not getting the point "We cannot read control values changed by the user".Where do users change the value of control?.Example would help me to understand the point.

  • Random Int in VB.Net

    - by brendan
    I need to generate random integer between 1-n (where n is a positive whole number) to use for a unit test. I don't need something overly complicated to ensure true randomnesses - just an old fashioned random number. How would I do that?

  • What is the .NET equivalent of PHP var_dump?

    - by George Mauer
    I remember seeing a while ago that there is some method in maybe the Reflection namespace that would recursively run ToString() on all of an object's properties and format it nicely for display. Yes, I know everything I could want will be accessible through the debugger, but I'm wondering if anyone knows that command?

  • Dispatching generic tasks in WCF or .Net Remoting

    - by Eric
    Hello all, I've been researching for a couple days on and off, and have yet to figure out the best way to achieve the following goal. I would like to define either an interface or abstract class in C# which has an associated Run method, similar to the Java runnable interface. The goal would be to have a shared queue which contains a list of these objects. Then individual clients would be able to derive their own concrete runnable classes and add them to the queue hosted by the server. Clients would also be able to pop these runnable objects off the queue and execute them arbitrarily. This seems like it should be feasible in a VM based language without needing to place any of the concrete implementations in a shared assembly, but I have thus far had no luck finding a working example of such a system. Does anyone know how this might be achieved?
