  • Install APK on ICS through Eclipse

    - by roboguy12
    I rooted my Incredible and flashed an ICS rom, and I can't seem to install an app through Eclipse for testing (or by manually pushing it through adb). I know I have to change the permissions of /data/local to write and execute others in order to allow APKs to be installed, but when I adb shell into my phone and call chmod o=wx /data/local I get a message saying Bad mode. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Thanks! EDIT: According to this question I need to change the permissions of /data/local in order for this to work; I'm receiving the same errors as the OP of that question.

  • Can anyone share a code snippet to Update Google Documents

    - by Sana
    Hi, I am relentlessly trying to update an existing google doc with the Google Protocol Data API, but the contents do not get updated, even though the PUT runs perfectly fine with a return response code of 200. Here is the code that I am using try { HttpRequest requestPost = transport.buildPutRequest(); requestPost.url = DocsUrl.forUploadingFile(editLink); ((GoogleHeaders) requestPost.headers).setSlugFromFileName("books1.xml"); InputStreamContent content = new InputStreamContent(); File file = new File("//sdcard/books.xml"); content.setFileInput(file); content.type = "text/plain"; content.length = file.length(); System.out.println("Length of the file = "+content.length); requestPost.content = content; HttpResponse responseUpload = requestPost.execute(); System.out.println("Uploading code = "+responseUpload.statusCode); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { System.out.println("Client Protocol Exception"); } catch (IOException e) { handleException(e); } where editLink is the editLink edit-media link returned from google doc feeds.

  • is it even possible to modify .apk, by adding additional class to .dex and re-packing with modified

    - by user355859
    is it even possible to modify .apk, by adding additional class to .dex and re-packing with modified manifest.xml?? I know there are tools such as baksmali / smali to disassemble / re-assemble given classes.dex from .apk, but not sure limitation what could be modified from there on? I'm trying to add additional activity, to modify starting launcher activity (may be from androidmanifest.xml) from original apk, then re-pack and sign to make complete single .apk... all need to be done out of build time, no raw source or build structure visible, only .apk as input... ANY IDEA?

    - by Pl4za
    I am having some problems retrieving a xml from url with the following code: private static String getAlbumArt(String artistName, String albumName){ try{ XMLParser xml_parser = new XMLParser(); String xml = xml_parser.getXmlFromUrl(getAlbumURL(artistName, albumName)); Document doc = xml_parser.getDomElement(xml); NodeList N = doc.getElementsByTagName("album"); Node node = N.item(0); NodeList N2 = node.getChildNodes(); System.out.println("1------"); for (int i = 0; i < N2.getLength(); i++) { Node detailNode = N2.item(i); if (detailNode.getNodeType() == Node.ELEMENT_NODE) { System.out.println("2------"); if (detailNode.getNodeName().equalsIgnoreCase("image")) { String sizeVal = ((Element) detailNode).getAttribute("size"); String url = detailNode.getTextContent(); if (sizeVal.equalsIgnoreCase("large")) { return url; } } } } } catch (Exception e){ } return null; } The xml function which i call in the above code: public String getXmlFromUrl(String url) { String xml = null; try { DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpPost httpPost = new HttpPost(url); HttpResponse httpResponse = httpClient.execute(httpPost); HttpEntity httpEntity = httpResponse.getEntity(); xml = EntityUtils.toString(httpEntity); } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return xml; } getAlbumURL: public static String getAlbumURL(String artist, String album){ return URL_METHOD + METHOD_GETALBUM + AMPERSAND + API_KEY + AMPERSAND + PARAM_ARTIST + artist + AMPERSAND + PARAM_ALBUM + album; } XMLparser: public class XMLParser { // constructor public XMLParser() { } //Get XML from URL public String getXmlFromUrl(String url) { String xml = null; try { DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpPost httpPost = new HttpPost(url); HttpResponse httpResponse = httpClient.execute(httpPost); HttpEntity httpEntity = httpResponse.getEntity(); xml = EntityUtils.toString(httpEntity); } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return xml; } //Get dom element public Document getDomElement(String xml){ Document doc = null; DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); try { DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); InputSource is = new InputSource(); is.setCharacterStream(new StringReader(xml)); doc = db.parse(is); } catch (ParserConfigurationException e) { Log.e("Error: ", e.getMessage()); return null; } catch (SAXException e) { Log.e("Error: ", e.getMessage()); return null; } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("Error: ", e.getMessage()); return null; } return doc; } //Get nod element public final String getElementValue(Node elem ) { Node child; if( elem != null){ if (elem.hasChildNodes()){ for( child = elem.getFirstChild(); child != null; child = child.getNextSibling() ){ if( child.getNodeType() == Node.TEXT_NODE ){ return child.getNodeValue(); } } } } return ""; } //Get element value public String getValue(Element item, String str) { NodeList nlList = item.getElementsByTagName(str).item(0).getChildNodes(); Node nValue = (Node) nlList.item(0); return nValue.getNodeValue(); } } Any ideas ? I seriously don't know what is wrong.. I used this before and it worked.

  • Using Website Information Without WebView

    - by Mr. Monkey
    I am very new to this, and I more looking for what information I need to study to be able to accomplish this. What I want to do is use my GUI I have built for my app, but pull the information from a website. If I have a website that looks like this: (Sorry, can't post pics yet) http:// dl.dropbox.com/u/7037695/ErrorCodeApp/FromWebsite.PNG (full website can be seen at http://www.atmequipment.com/Error-Codes) What would I need from the website so that if a user entered an error code here: http:// dl.dropbox.com/u/7037695/ErrorCodeApp/InApp.PNG It would use the search from the website, and populate the error description in my app? I know this is a huge question, I'm just looking for what is actually needed to accomplish this, and then I can start researching from there. -- Or is it even possible?

  • Create NinePatch at Runtime

    - by Pedro Lopes
    Hello everybody! I have a business need to create the NinePatchDrawable objects at runtime, this is, an exterior .png image is received from a server and it has to be applied in a button's background (for example) as a nine patch. I have tried to create the NinePatchDrawable object, but the constructor asks me for a "byte[] chuck" that describes the patch. The thing is, I have no idea on how to build this chunck from a bitmap that does not have the 9patch information in it. Any ideas on this topic? Am I seeing the problem from a wrong perpective? Thanks!

  • LogCat acting patchy

    - by OceanBlue
    The LogCat output in eclipse suddenly started weird. It sometimes shows all the output as expected. Other times it just doesn't show anything - is completely blank. After some internet research, I thought Mylyn plugin might be responsible. So I tried de-selecting "Mylyn Tasks UI" & "Mylyn Team UI" on eclipse Window -- Preferences -- General -- Startup and Shutdown -- programs that are started at startup. No Luck. Has anyone else encountered & solved this problem?

  • How to get path to wallpaper

    - by kentcdodds
    My Question: How do you get the filepath to the current wallpaper? Expansion: I'm writing an app that will let you change the wallpaper easily between different presets. I want to store the filepath of the available wallpapers in my database. What I've tried: WallpaperManger.getWallpaperInfo() or WallpaperManger.getDrawable(). Neither seem to contain the actual location of the file. Any help would be appreciated! :D Thanks! Also, I'm including live-wallpapers. Thanks!

  • Put an object in Handler message

    - by Tsimmi
    Hi! I need to download an image from the internet, in a different thread, and then send that image object in the handler message, to the UI thread. I already have this: ... Message msg = Message.obtain(); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putParcelable("MyObject", (Parcelable) object); msg.setData(b); handler.sendMessage(msg); And when I receive this message, I want to extract the object: ... public void handleMessage(Message msg) { super.handleMessage(msg); MyObject objectRcvd = (MyObject) msg.getData().getParcelable("IpTile"); addToCache(ipTile); mapView.invalidate(); } But this is giving me: ...java.lang.ClassCastException... Can anyone help? And by the way, is this the most efficient way to pass an object to the UI Thread? Thank you all!

  • Enterprise Native Mobile Application Development

    - by ahsteele
    I tend to believe that developing mobile applications in an enterprise environment is best suited by developing intranet web applications. That said I have been asked to think about whether there are specific enterprise applications that could only be accomplished or would be more successful as native applications. I am curious as to what the Stack Overflow community thinks. Note: As an organization we primarily use BlackBerry devices but are other platform curious.

  • How to test onLowMemory conditions?

    - by Samuh
    I have put some instructions in onLowMemory() callback and want to test the same. Is there a "direct" way to test onLowMemory function of the application subclass? Or will I have to just overload the phone by starting many apps and doing memory intensive tasks? Thanks.

  • Overriding Home button for a Car Home replacement app

    - by BigFwoosh
    I have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure). I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?

( * At that time cursor is located at right-bottom corner of added image file.) The problem is IME window overlap cursor, so users complain that 'where is my cursor?' How to prevent that IME window overlap cursor?

  • Reading from txt ruins formatting

    - by Sorin Grecu
    I'm saving some values to a txt file and after that i want to be able to show it in a dialog.All good,done that but though the values in the txt file are formated nicely,like this : Aaaaaaaa 0.55 1 Bbbbb 1 2.2 CCCCCCCCC 3 0.22 When reading and setting them to a textview they get all messy like this : Aaaaaaaa 0.55 1 Bbbbb 1 2.2 CCCCCCCCC 3 0.22 My writting method : FileOutputStream f = new FileOutputStream(file); PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(f); for (int n = 0; n < allpret.size() - 1; n++) { if (cant[n] != Float.toString(0) && pret[n] != Float.toString(0)) { String myFormat = "%-20s %-5s %-5s%n"; pw.println(String.format(myFormat, prod[n], cant[n], pret[n])); My reading method : StringBuilder text = new StringBuilder(); try { BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file)); String line; while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) { text.append(line); text.append('\n'); } } catch (IOException e) { } Why does it ruin the amount of spaces and how can i fix this ? Thanks and have a good night !
