• Adding fields to user registration in Mediawiki

  Hi, I've been Googling a lot, but I just can't figure out how to add a couple fields to user registration. By default Mediawiki only asks for username, password and real name. I noticed that form is a template under /includes/templates/UserLogin.php, but I don't want to modify that file to make the changes. What is the correct way to do that?

  Hello, I'm a little afraid of using Wordpress because of his connotation "all made", plus my website is 100% hand coded, actually, i use the phpBB but it's not what I want cause visitors have to go out of the website to go to the forum to see the news. So how/what can I do to have my own news system management (publish/review/moderate comments).... Are there tools (i mean except WYSIWYG) / PHP class I can use to implement myself ? Furthermore, in PHP, the class must extend the Exception class so it will be apparent that it is an exception when looking at the class on its own. Despite this, developers usually apply the suffix 'Exception'. Why is this?

  I'm fairly new to OOP in PHP, I've made a couple of basic scripts but nothing impressive. All I've really taken from it is that it would probably be easier just make a collection of functions and include them. The structure of classes seems to just confuse what was otherwise a simple process. And in collating everything into a class it doesn't really add any functionality. So I'm clearly missing something. However, given that it's binary-safe would it have a problem if it was only given valid UTF-8 strings as arguments? Edit: I'm not looking for a replacement function, I would just like to know if this hypothesis is correct.

  I wonder if there is a way to get offsets and delimiters while I am splitting a string in ruby analagous to PHP preg_split: preg_split("/( |&nbsp;|<|>|\t|\n|\r|;|\.)/i", $html_string, -1, PREG_SPLIT_DELIM_CAPTURE|PREG_SPLIT_OFFSET_CAPTURE); I imagine I can achieve it by traversing string by characters or using something heavy as treetop, but I would like to use something more convenient.

  Hello, Consider the URL www.something.com/HereWeGo. When someone enters the url, the site shows a 404 error since the directory does not exists. • mod_rewrite browser trying to get content from non-existant dir

  I have my mod_rewrite set up so that it redirects all requests that aren't targeting existing files or directories to index.php?req=* where * is the request. Works all fine but when I send the browser to something like this: http://myurl/A/B/C The browser tries to find all images, stylesheets in the non-existing folder C. How can I make the browser to look in / instead of the 'virtual' directory? Do I have to put an absolute path everywhere?

Therefore throwing an exception when an incorrect password is entered is wrong. Should I avoid using exceptions when I want to trigger a server error?
