• Problems installing Linux to IDE connected compact flash card

  I have been trying to install Ubuntu on some hardware (Netcom NC-499 board that contains a Vortex86DX processor). I am trying to install to a compact flash card attached to the board via an IDE adaptor, the aim being that the board will boot up and simply treat the compact flash like a normal hard drive. The processor vendor claims support for Ubuntu 10.04 but I am having problems installing it onto the card. I have been trying using a USB CD-ROM drive and the standard .iso image from the ubuntu site (md5 checksum works out fine so no problem there) but I have had no success at all. I have been able to do this with Ubuntu 8.04 but with no other version (9.04 and 10.04 desktop and alternative discs all fail). My question is what other options are available to me to try and install this? I have googled myself apart trying to find out but other than a few sites describing USB based installs using flash memory sticks for very specific hardware, I have found no useful info at all. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

• Searching Your PL/SQL Source with Oracle SQL Developer

  Version 3.2.1 included a few tweaks along with several hundred bug fixes. One of those tweaks was the addition of ‘ALL_SOURCE’ as a selection for the Type drop down in the Find Database Object panel. Scroll ALL the way down to the bottom Searching the database for your code or objects can be expensive. The ALL_SOURCE view comes in pretty handy when I want to demo how to cancel long running queries or the Task Progress panel – did you know you can manage all of your long running queries here? Yeah, don’t run this I pretty much hosed our demo pod at Open World b/c I ran that same query but added an ORDER BY b.TEXT DESC to the query and blew up the TEMP space and filled the primary partition on the image. Fun stuff. Anyways, where was I going with this? Oh yeah, searching ALL_SOURCE can be expensive. So we took it out of the product for awhile. And now it’s back in. If you select the ‘ALL’ field, it doesn’t actually search EVERYTHING, because that would probably be less than helpful. So if you want to search your PL/SQL objects for a scrap or bit of code, use the ‘ALL_SOURCE’ option in v3.2.1 Double-Click on the search results to go to the code you’re looking for. Be careful what you search for. Just like any query, it could take awhile.

• Windows 7 backup to 3TB Seagate external drive got 0x8078002A error [migrated]

  I'm using the Windows 7 backup and restore utility to create a system image and personal file backup to an external Seagate GoFlex 3TB disk. I got the following error: One of the backup files could not be created. Details: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Error code: 0x8078002A I searched all over the internet and found these two related discussions (discussion 1 and discussion 2). Note the 1st discussion is for a Western Digital drive, which seem to have a solution with the WD Quick Formatter tool. But I downloaded that software and it cannot detect my Seagate drive. The 2nd discussion is directly relevant but it does not offer a solution. I've spent days on this and am at a loss... Please help if you know what to do to make it work! Thank you!

• Can't add to panel nor delete panel

  Hello everybody! I cannot add any applet to any (top or bottom) panel, cannot delete any panel nor create a new panel. When I right-click on the panel the only options available are: Properties, Help or About panels. [I cannot post an image because of spam prevention, so I'll do my best] I can see when I right-click (bold means clickable): Add to panel Properties Delete this panel New panel Help About Panels Trying to solve this I did what is usually suggested: gconftool-2 –-recursive-unset /apps/panel # might be optional rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel pkill gnome-panel but I only got a nice empty panel (no Applications Places System, no clock, no shutdown button...) to which I couldn't add any applet, so I decided to take the default profiles in .gconf and .gconfd from a live CD and overwrite mines. Now we are back to the beginning. I also have tried to lock completely the panel (with both gconf-editor and pessulus) and later unlock it completely but it didn't work. • Mini-ITX board for AM3 Athlon X4 600e processor.

  Hello, I am planning to build a PC to control a robotic platform that I am building (about 50% complete). I need more power than ATOM platform could bring, as the robot will need to do on the fly image processing to work as intended. I was considering using Athlon X4 600e as it is rated 45W Maximum output. Probably underclocked it would go lower than 30-35W. I do not I'am at very long battery life, but the 17Ah, 12V battery should keep it running for few hours. My problem is: motherboard. I am space limited so I am looking for a nice mini-itx AM3 motherboard to match the processor. It is hard to find many tests about power usage of the motherboards itself (for example, when using the same processor on different motherboards, test are usualy done in the opposite matter). Could you provide any motherboard examples or suggest what chipset to look for? Thank you in advance.

  In his blog, JT on EDM, James Taylor shares his analysis of Oracle Data Mining, including its new GUI and Exadata integration. While Oracle Data Mining has been available for a while, it is now easier to access and try via the Amazon Cloud. Using the Oracle 11gR2 Data Mining Amazon Machine Image (AMI), you can launch an Oracle Data Mining-enabled instance directly through Amazon Web Services (AWS) and connect to it using the Oracle Data Miner graphical user interface. The new Oracle Data Mining GUI, which will be available to beta customers soon, provides more graphics, the ability to define, save and share analytical "work flows" to solve business problems, and provides more automation and simplicity. Taylor comments that, "the UI looks to have a nice look and feel including graphical model development flows, easy access to the data, nice little micro graphs when browsing data records and more." On using Oracle Data Mining with Exadata, Taylor writes, "Oracle says that the use of the ODM routines in the Exadata kernel is faster than running a native ODM model in the database by a factor of 2 and that this increases as more joins are used. This could mean that ODM outperforms even third party in-database analytics." Taylor concludes his blog with a positive overall review, stating that "ODM is a nice product for Oracle database customers and well worth looking into. The new UI will only make it more so." • Problem with Skype in Snow Leopard

  Ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard I have always had problems with Skype. When I start a video chat, Skype tells me that my camera is not installed on the machine (even though it clearly is). After searching the internet I have found some 'solutions' but none of them work. After trying them, it makes my camera feed appear as a blank, green image. How can I get Skype to function with the built in iSight with Snow Leopard properly? is there any body else face this problem?

• Outlook 2003: How to print embedded images in e-mails?

  My boss has been trying to print his e-mails with embedded images, but the images don't print. All we get is a placeholder space where the image should be. Ideally, we'd like to have an option to control whether images get printed or not. I Googled this already and the one solution I found, trying to print the e-mail from the separate window using the print icon, did not work. Edit: also tried the solution here without success. I had him forward a sample e-mail to me, and I printed it fine in my Outlook (same version).

Then I just download backup files and delete them. After deletion Munin's memory graph returns cache and buffers to the state that was before backup. • Java for 64bit isn't working

  I'm having errors with java left and right, normal java works just fine. It's things that use the internet for certificates and java .jnpl. I've tried Minecraft classic, it gives me a error, canirunit, error, Carnegie learning, error. I've switched browsers and still have these errors. everything is broken I've turned on ask me for unsigned certificates instead of blocking it and it doesn't pop-up. • ubuntu 12.04 not responding after software update

  Yesterday, I did a software update and since then the system became unusable. To be more precise, I login and then I see only the background image without any bars, images etc.. This happened after updating the system. Please find here the relevant part /var/log/apt/history.log. I'm running 64 bit 12.04 distribution on nVidia. The 2-3 first restarts after the upgrade it was complaining about compiz/unity crashes and then the situation is as described above. I would be the most grateful of you could help me on this. • creating proper vpn tunnel, when both LANs have the same addressing

  I was following this tutorial http://wiki.debian.org/OpenVPN#TLS-enabled_VPN and this one http://users.telenet.be/mydotcom/howto/linux/openvpn.htm to create openvpn connection to my remote LAN. But both examples assumed that both LANs have different addresses (ie 192.168.10.0/24 and 192.168.20.0/24, check out this image i.stack.imgur.com/2eUSm.png). Unfortunately in my case both local and remote lan have 192.168.1.0/24 addresses. I am able to connect directly on the openvpn server (I can ping it and log in with ssh), but I can't see other devices on the remote LAN (not mentioning accessing them via browser which was the point from the first place). And don't know if the addressing issue may be the reason of that? If not - how to define routes, so I could ping other devices in remote LAN?

  Hi, I just got a Lexmark x543dn and have some trouble getting my computer to recognize it as a scanner. The printer is working fine from my OS X 10.6 machine, setup was as easy as it gets. I just connected it to my network, gave it a name and added it under that name as a networked printer in OS X. According to the Apple support website, the driver in OS X (I upgraded to the newest drivers already) should also provide scanning capabilities. However when I run the image capture app included in OS X it tells me that there are no scanners available. Can anybody tell me what I have to do to get OS X to recognize the scanner? Thanks, Thomas

• Downloading specific video renditions in WebCenter Content

  I recently had a question come up on one of my previous blog articles about downloading a specific video rendition.  When accessing image renditions, you simply need to pass in the 'Rendition=<rendition name>' parameter on the GET_FILE service and it will be returned.  But when you try that with videos, you get the error message, "Unable to download '<Content ID>'. The rendition or attachment '<Rendition Name>' could not be found in the list manifest of the revision with internal revision ID '<dID>'. Through the interface, it exposes the ability to download, but utilizes the Content Basket to bundle one or more videos and download them as a zip.   I had never tried this with videos, but thought they had worked the same way.  Well, it turns out you need to pass in an extra parameter in the case of videos.  So if you pass in parameter of 'AuxRenditionType=media', that will allow the GET_FILE service to download the video (e.g. http://server/cs/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dID=11012&dDocName=WCCBASE9010812&allowInterrupt=1 &Rendition=QuickTime&AuxRenditionType=media).  And if you haven't seen the David After Dentist video, I'd highly recommend it!

• Debian Squeeze locale settings

  I have a problem with a slightly customised Debian image that I'm trying to do some headless work on. The problem is that the installed locales list has been reduced to this: C en_GB en_GB.iso88591 en_GB.iso885915 en_GB.utf8 POSIX However, when I log in as root (with an otherwise as-vanilla profile), I find this: ~# set | grep LC_ LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 That's the only LC_ environment variable set, and presumably that means that it's being explicitly set somewhere (and given that /etc/default/locale only contains LANG=en_GB, I can't see any other alternative). However, I can't see where it is being set, and the fact that it's wrong is preventing, for example, postgresql-8.4 from installing. I know I can do an LC_CTYPE=en_GB apt-get install postgresql-8.4 to work around this, but I'd really like to understand where this setting comes from, and I really dislike the idea of installing an otherwise-unnecessary locale to make this go away. So: where does this LC_CTYPE setting come from, and how do I make it go away?

• Use Internet Explorer 6 and 7 in Virtual Box.

  Hello. I am trying to install the vhds (virtual hard drive image) of IE6 on XP and IE 7 on XP packs available from Microsoft on Virtual Box. Virtual Box will only mount CD/DVD's and/or ISO's. How do I get it to use the Microsoft files? I need this to test web pages in IE6/IE7s. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Is there a way to do this, or another way that will allow me to load XP/IE6 and XP/IE7 in Virtualbox Edit: Ok I got it to work but it says XP must be updated in 3 days due to hardware changes. Microsoft said this would be activated til January 1st 2010. Is there a way to bypass that?
