  • How does one declare the type of an Android preference?

    - by David R.
    I have a preferences.xml that looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <EditTextPreference android:name="Sample" android:enabled="true" android:persistent="true" android:summary="Sample" android:defaultValue="3.0" android:title="Sample" android:key="sample" /> </PreferenceScreen> When I do sp.getString("sample", "3.0"), it works fine and returns a string, but it shouldn't be a string, it should be a float. Running sp.getFloat("sample", 3.0f) throws a ClassCastException because it is a string. What should I put in the XML so that the preference is stored as a float?

  • XSD: Different sub-elements depending on attribute/element value

    - by AndiDog
Another XSD question - how can I achieve that the following XML elements are both valid: <some-element> <type>1</type> <a>...</a> </some-element> <some-element> <type>2</type> <b>...</b> </some-element> The sub-elements (either <a> or <b>) should depend on the content of <type> (could also be an attribute). It would be so simple in RelaxNG - but RelaxNG doesn't support key integrity :( Is there a way to implement this in XSD? Note: XML schema version 1.1 supports <xs:alternative>, which might be a solution, but afaik no reference implementation (e.g. libxml2) supports this yet. So I'm searching for workarounds. The only way I've come up with is: <type>1</type> <some-element type="1"> <!-- simple <xs:choice> between <a> and <b> goes here --> <a>...</a> </some-element> <!-- and now create a keyref between <type> and @type -->

  • On iPhone, what does EPERM (errno == 1) mean in reponse to send() of UDP data?

    - by Chris Markle
We sending data over UDP from the iPhone, sometimes, but not always, in response to our first send() of UDP data, we are getting back a -1 return code and errno set to 1 (EPERM / operation not permitted). The EPERM result for send(), sendto() and sendmsg() is not documented in the man pages as a return result from those functions. Has anyone out there encountered this and might be able to shed some light on what this errno value means in this context?

  • When using a repository is it possible for a type to return a Func that the repository uses to test for existing entities?

    - by Scott Rickman
    For example given a Factory with a method public static T Save<T>(T item) where T : Base, new() { /* item.Id == Guid.Empty therefore item is new */ if (item.Id == Guid.Empty && repository.GetAll<T>(t => t.Name == item.Name)) { throw new Exception("Name is not unique"); } } how do I create a property of Base (say MustNotAlreadyExist) so that I can change the method above to public static T Save<T>(T item) where T : Base, new() { /* item.Id == Guid.Empty therefore item is new */ if (item.Id == Guid.Empty && repository.GetAll<T>(t.MustNotAlreadyExist)) { throw new Exception("Name is not unique"); } } public class Base { ... public virtual Expression<Func<T, bool>> MustNotAlreadyExist() { return (b => b.Name == name); /* <- this clearly doesn't work */ } } and then how can I override MustNotAlreadyExist in Account : Base public class Account : Base { ... public override Expression<Func<T, bool>> MustNotAlreadyExist() { return (b => b.Name == name && b.AccountCode == accountCode); /* <- this doesn't work */ } ... }

  • How can I copy unmanaged data in C# and how fast is it?

    - by Danvil
I have two unmanaged pointers in the form of IntPtr and want to copy data between them. How can I do this? I know the method Marshal.Copy, but it can only copy between unmanaged and managed. And the second part: Is copying unmanaged data from C# slower than doing it in unmanaged C/C++ using memcopy?

  • How do I make faint words in search bar that go away when you click/type?

    - by Razor Storm
So, for instance facebook's search bar has faint word that says "search", but when you click on the bar, it becomes blank and you may begin typing, when you click away the "search" goes back. Similarly, SO's ask a question title box has faint words that go away when you start typing. I'm not too sure what this effect is called, but I'm wondering if theres a jQuery plugin that helps to achieve this. This isn't particularly difficult to program, but I thought why reinvent the wheel if someone already made a plugin for it.

  • NHibernate's ISQLQuery returns instances that are of an unexpected type.

    - by Frederik Gheysels
Hi all, I'm using NHibernate 2.1.2.400, and I'm having an issue with a an ISQLQuery query. The reason why I use an ISQLQuery here, is that this query uses a table for which I have no entity mapped in NHibernate. The query looks like this: ISQLQuery query = session.CreateSQLQuery ( "select p.*, price.* " + "from prestation p left outer join prestationprice price on p.PrestationId = price.PrestationId " + "where p.Id IN ( select id from prestationregistry where ..."); 'Prestationregistry' is the table that is not known by NHibernate (unmapped, so therefore the native SQL Query). my code continues like this: query.AddEntity ("p", typeof(Prestation)); query.AddJoin ("price", typeof(PrestationPrice)); query.SetResultTransformer (Transformers.DistinctRootEntity); var result = query.List(); So far so good. I expect that I'm given a list of 'Prestation' instances as a result of this query, since I declared 'Prestation' as being the root-object that has to be returned by the AddEntity method. I also expect that the PrestationPrices for each Prestation are eagerly loaded by this query (hence the AddJoin method). To my surprise, the List() method returns a collection of PrestationPrice instances instead of Prestation instances. How come ? Am I doing something wrong ? And if so, could you be so kind to tell me what I'm doing wrong ? Edit: Additional Info: When I debug, and put a watch on the 'query' instance, I can see that the queryReturns member of the query contains 2 items: - one NativeSqlQueryRootReturn instance who'se ReturnEntityName is 'Prestation' - one NativeSqlQueryJoinReturn When I do not specify the 'DistinctRootEntity' result transformer, the query returns instances of 'Prestation' instead of PrestationPrice. However, it contains multiple copies of the same instance.

  • How to merge two different child nodes in the same XML file

    - by user814698
    I have an XML file and I would like to merge two different CONTACT child nodes. I have checked these websites it shows how to merge two different xml files into a single file. http://www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~obecker/XSLT/#merge Merge XML documents In my case this is my first contact in the xml file: <CONTACT> <PDE-Identity>N65539</PDE-Identity> <FirstName>Arun_niit</FirstName> <LastName>Arun_niit</LastName> <Facebook-ID/> <EMAILS> <EMail> <Type>yahoo</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> </EMAILS> </CONTACT> This is the second contact in the file: <PDE-Identity>N65567</PDE-Identity> <FirstName>Arun_niit</FirstName> <LastName>Ramanathan</LastName> <Facebook-ID/> <EMAILS> <EMail> <Type>gmail</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> <EMail> <Type>yahoo</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> </EMAILS> </CONTACT> <CONTACT> I know both of the contacts are belongs to the same person. How can i merge these two contacts in the same xml file. Original XML File: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <CONTACTS> <CONTACT> <PDE-Identity>N65539</PDE-Identity> <FirstName>Arun_niit</FirstName> <LastName>Arun_niit</LastName> <Facebook-ID/> <EMAILS> <EMail> <Type>yahoo</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> </EMAILS> </CONTACT> <CONTACT> <PDE-Identity>N65567</PDE-Identity> <FirstName>Arun_niit</FirstName> <LastName>Ramanathan</LastName> <Facebook-ID/> <EMAILS> <EMail> <Type>gmail</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> <EMail> <Type>yahoo</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> </EMAILS> </CONTACT> <CONTACT> <PDE-Identity>N65567</PDE-Identity> <FirstName>Rangarajkarthik</FirstName> <LastName>karthik Rangaraj</LastName> <Facebook-ID/> <EMAILS> <EMail> <Type>gmail</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> <EMail> <Type>yahoo</Type> <Value>[email protected]</Value> </EMail> </EMAILS> </CONTACT> <CONTACTS>

  • Why is TreeSet<T> an internal type in .NET?

    - by Justin Niessner
So, I was just digging around Reflector trying to find the implementation details of HashSet (out of sheer curiosity based on the answer to another question here) and noticed the following: internal class TreeSet<T> : ICollection<T>, IEnumerable<T>, ICollection, IEnumerable, ISerializable, IDeserializationCallback Without looking too deep into the details, it looks like a Self-Balancing Binary Search Tree. My question is, is there anybody out there with the insight as to why this class is internal? Is it simply because the other collection types use it internally and hide the complexities of a BST from the general masses...or am I way off base?

  • Is there a name for this type of algorithm?

    - by rehanift
I have a 2 dimensional array forming a table: [color][number][shape ] ------------------------- [black][10 ][square ] [black][10 ][circle ] [red ][05 ][triangle] [red ][04 ][triangle] [green][11 ][oval ] and what I want to do is group largest common denominators, such that we get: 3 groups group #1: color=black, number=10, shapes = [square, circle] group #2: color=red, shape=triange, numbers = [05,04] group #3: color=green, number=11, shape = oval I wrote code that will handle a 2 "column" scenario, then I needed to adjusted it for 3 and I was figuring I might as well do it for n. I wanted to check first if there is some literature around this but I can't think of what to start looking for!

  • The Silverlight 3 Toolkit styles prevent the displaying of SL 3.0 data validation errors.

    - by RayMartinsHair
Hi, If I apply a style from the SL 3.0 Toolkit to my application the built in SL 3.0 data validation errors are not displayed on the application edit forms. If I removed the code that applies the toolkit style to the application the SL 3.0 data validation errors appear as per normal SL 3.0 behaviour? Has anyone else come across this problem????? Any help is always appreciated. Cheers Adam

  • How Does Rails 3's "data-method='delete'" Degrade Gracefully?

    - by viatropos
Rails 3 does some cool stuff to make Javascript unobtrusive, so they've done things like this: = link_to "Logout", user_session_path, :method => :delete ..converts to <a href="/logout" data-method="delete" rel="nofollow">Logout</a> But it just occurred to me.. When I turn off javascript the method isn't DELETE anymore, it's GET as expected. So are there plans to, or is there some way to, allow these data- attributes to degrade gracefully, so that link still is a DELETE request?

  • sql combine two subqueries

    - by Claudiu
    I have two tables. Table A has an id column. Table B has an Aid column and a type column. Example data: A: id -- 1 2 B: Aid | type ----+----- 1 | 1 1 | 1 1 | 3 1 | 1 1 | 4 1 | 5 1 | 4 2 | 2 2 | 4 2 | 3 I want to get all the IDs from table A where there is a certain amount of type 1 and type 3 actions. My query looks like this: SELECT id FROM A WHERE (SELECT COUNT(type) FROM B WHERE B.Aid = A.id AND B.type = 1) = 3 AND (SELECT COUNT(type) FROM B WHERE B.Aid = A.id AND B.type = 3) = 1 so on the data above, just the id 1 should be returned. Can I combine the 2 subqueries somehow?

  • Basic problems (type inference or something else?) in Objective-C/Cocoa.

    - by Matt
Hi, Apologies for how basic these questions are to some. Just started learning Cocoa, working through Hillegass' book, and am trying to write my first program (a GUI Cocoa app that counts the number of characters in a string). I tried this: NSString *string = [textField stringValue]; NSUInteger *stringLength = [string length]; NSString *countString = (@"There are %u characters",stringLength); [label setStringValue:countString]; But I'm getting errors like: Incompatible pointer conversion initializing 'NSUInteger' (aka 'unsigned long'), expected 'NSUInteger *'[-pedantic] for the first line, and this for the second line: Incompatible pointer types initializing 'NSUInteger *', expected 'NSString *' [-pedantic] I did try this first, but it didn't work either: [label setStringValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"There are %u characters",[[textField stringValue] length]]] On a similar note, I've only written in easy scripting languages before now, and I'm not sure when I should be allocing/initing objects and when I shouldn't. For example, when is it okay to do this: NSString *myString = @"foo"; or int *length = 5; instead of this: NSString *myString = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:"foo"]; And which ones should I be putting into the header files? I did check Apple's documentation, and CocoaDev, and the book I'm working for but without luck. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply this: it's appreciated, and thanks for being patient with a beginner. We all start somewhere. EDIT Okay, I tried the following again: [label setStringValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"There are %u characters",[[textField stringValue] length]]] And it actually worked this time. Not sure why it didn't the first time, though I think I might have typed %d instead of %u by mistake. However I still don't understand why the code I posted at the top of my original post doesn't work, and I have no idea what the errors mean, and I'd very much like to know because it seems like I'm missing something important there.

  • QT NOOB: Add action handler for multiple objects of same type.

    - by what
I have a simple QT application with 10 radio buttons with names radio_1 through radio_10. It is a ui called Selector, and is part of a class called TimeSelector In my header file for this design, i have this: //! [1] class TimeSelector : public QWidget { Q_OBJECT public: TimeSelector(QWidget *parent = 0); private slots: //void on_inputSpinBox1_valueChanged(int value); //void on_inputSpinBox2_valueChanged(int value); private: Ui::Selector ui; }; //! [1] the commented out void_on_inputSpinBox1_valueChanged(int value) is from the tutorial for the simple calculator. I know i can do: void on_radio_1_valueChanged(int value); but I would need 10 functions. I want to be able to make one function that works for everything, and lets me pass in maybe a name of the radio button that called it, or a reference to the radio button so i can work with it and determine who it was. I am very new to QT but this seems like it should be very basic and doable, thanks.
