  • Initialize a Variable Again.

    - by SoulBeaver
That may sound a little confusing. Basically, I have a function CCard newCard() { /* Used to store the string variables intermittantly */ std::stringstream ssPIN, ssBN; int picker1, picker2; int pin, bankNum; /* Choose 5 random variables, store them in stream */ for( int loop = 0; loop < 5; ++loop ) { picker1 = rand() % 8 + 1; picker2 = rand() % 8 + 1; ssPIN << picker1; ssBN << picker2; } /* Convert them */ ssPIN >> pin; ssBN >> bankNum; CCard card( pin, bankNum ); return card; } that creates a new CCard variable and returns it to the caller CCard card = newCard(); My teacher advised me that doing this is a violation of OOP principles and has to be put in the class. He told me to use this method as a constructor. Which I did: CCard::CCard() { m_Sperre = false; m_Guthaben = rand() % 1000; /* Work */ /* Convert them */ ssPIN >> m_Geheimzahl; ssBN >> m_Nummer; } All variables with m_ are member variables. However, the constructor works when I initialize the card normally CCard card(); at the start of the program. However, I also have a function, that is supposed to create a new card and return it to the user, this function is now broken. The original command: card = newCard(); isn't available anymore, and card = new CCard(); doesn't work. What other options do I have? I have a feeling using the constructor won't work, and that I probably should just create a class method newCard, but I want to see if it is somehow at all possible to do it the way the teacher wanted. This is creating a lot of headaches for me. I told the teacher that this is a stupid idea and not everything has to be classed in OOP. He has since told me that Java or C# don't allow code outside of classes, which sounds a little incredible. Not sure that you can do this in C++, especially when templated functions exist, or generic algorithms. Is it true that this would be bad code for OOP in C++ if I didn't force it into a class?

  • How to bridge git to ClearCase?

    - by Bas Bossink
I've recently used git svn and enjoyed it very much. Now I'm starting a new project at a different customer. At that site the SCM of choice is ClearCase. I haven't found a baked equivalent of git svn for ClearCase. Is there anybody who has tried to use git locally as a front-end to ClearCase using some tricks, configuration or scripting with any measure of success? If so can you please explain the method used?

  • Difference between Resume and Goto in error handling block

    - by Rich Oliver
I understand that in the following example a Resume statement should be used instead of a Goto statement. Sub Method() On Error Goto ErrorHandler ... CleanUp: ... Exit Function ErrorHandler: Log error etc Err.Clear 'Is this line actually necessary?' Resume CleanUp 'SHOULD USE THIS' Goto CleanUp 'SHOULD NOT USE THIS' End Sub My question is what difference is there in the execution of the two?

  • JQuery - Pass variables to PHP script via AJAX call and then display file

    - by hfidgen
    Hiya, I'm trying to generate Outlook event files for my events, doing so on the fly as and when someone requests it by pressing a link on the page. Here's what i've got so far, but I can't find out how to get the browser to download the content which is returned. I know how I could do this if I sent everything via _GET, but I'd prefer to do it via _POST, hence I'm going down this route.. Any thoughts? Thanks! HTML / Javascript <script> $(function() { $(".button").click(function() { // validate and process form // first hide any error messages var start = $("input#start").val(); var end = $("input#end").val(); var dataString = 'start='+ start + '&end=' + end; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/calendar.php", data: dataString, success: function(data) { //Need to return the file contents somehow! } }); return false; }); }); </script> <form name="calendar" method="post" action=""> <input type="hidden" name="start" id="start" value="<?php echo $start; ?>" /> <input type="hidden" name="end" id="end" value="<?php echo $end; ?>" /> <input type="submit" name="submit" class="button" id="submit_btn" value="Outlook" /> </fieldset> </form> PHP File <?php if (isset($_POST['start'])) { $start = $_POST['start']; $end = $_POST['end']; $c = header("Content-Type: text/Calendar"); $c .= header("Content-Disposition: inline; filename=calendar.ics"); $c .= "BEGIN:VCALENDAR\n"; $c .= "VERSION:2.0\n"; $c .= "PRODID:-//xxxyyyy//NONSGML //EN\n"; $c .= "METHOD:REQUEST\n"; // requied by Outlook $c .= "BEGIN:VEVENT\n"; $c .= "UID:". $start . $end ."-" .   • MySQL: Which is faster — INSTR or LIKE?

    - by Grekker
If your goal is to test if a string exists in a MySQL column (of type 'varchar', 'text', 'blob', etc) which of the following is faster / more efficient / better to use, and why? Or, is there some other method that tops either of these? INSTR( columnname, 'mystring' ) > 0 vs columnname LIKE '%mystring%'

  • A PHP Library / Class to Count Words in Various Languages?

    - by Michael Robinson
Some time in the near future I will need to implement a cross-language word count, or if that is not possible, a cross-language character count. I'd love it if I just had to look at English, but I need to consider every language here, Chinese, Korean, English, Arabic, Hindi, and so on. I would like to know if Stack Overflow has any leads on where to start looking for an existing product / method to do this in PHP, as I am a good lazy programmer* *http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2005-08-24-n14.html

  • How do I change the title of the "back" button on a Navigation Bar

    - by Dale
Currently the left bar button default value is the title of the view that loaded the current one, in other words the view to be shown when the button is pressed (back button). I want to change the text shown on the button to something else. I tried putting the following line of code in the view controller's viewDidLoad method but it doesn't seem to work. self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem.title = @"Log Out"; What should I do? Thanks.

  • Electroserver to Smartfox migration help

    - by Garrt
I've got several demonstration programs that use Electroserver, but I'd also want to test the same code using Smartfox. What is the most straightforward method to do this kind of migration? I know the types of classes that need to be changed, but since the terminology is slightly different in both libraries, it's difficult to make a smooth transition. Fortunately, the programs are simple and I can probably do a bit of trial and error in replacing each missing class, but is there a better solution? Thanks.

  • Converting XDocument to XmlDocument and vice versa.

    - by Workshop Alex
It's a very simple problem that I have. I use XDocument to generate an XML file. I then want to return it as a XmlDocument class. And I have an XmlDocument variable which I need to convert back to XDocument to append more nodes. So, what is the most efficient method to convert XML between XDocument and XmlDocument? (Without using any temporary storage in a file.)

  • A popup button with a static image (Cocoa OSX)

    - by Michael Minerva
I am trying to make a popup button that always displays a + as its image and when you click on it, a context menu pops up that will allow you to decide what type of object you want to add. Is there anyway to do this using an NSPopupButton? I saw in the specs for NSPopupButotn that the method SetImage has no effect so it seems that this is likely not going to work using this class. Is this correct?

  • Writing direct to disk with php

    - by Jurander
I would like to create an upload script that doesn't fall under the php upload limit. There might be an occasion where I need to upload a 2GB, or larger file and I don't want to have to change the whole server execution to above 32MB. Is there a way to write direct to disk from php? What method might you propose someone would use to accomplish this? I have read around stack overflow but haven't quite found what I am looking to do.

  • How to keep alive an HttpModule (a.k.a register it as a singleton)

    - by Micah
I pretty sure I've seen this somewhere but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have an HttpModule that can be used across multiple requests. In other words instead of creating a new instance of the Module on every request it only ever needs to create it once. Does this ring a bell to anyone? If so, what's the method for configuring to work this way?

  • ASP.NET LINQ to SQL SubmitChanges() doesn't update the database

    - by Alex
In my 2nd ASP.NET MVC project I'm facing a very weird problem: when I call the SubmitChanges method of the DataContext class, nothing updates in the database. It's weird because everything works fine with my first project. I'm using a remote database created in Sql Server Management Studio, I tried doing some queries there and in Visual Studio 2010 (where I have the connection to the database), they all work. Where might the problem be hidden?

  • Ruby on Rails: Can I do a "link_to" to call a create action?

    - by sjsc
How would I correctly call the create action from a link_to? Here's the create action: def create recipe = Recipe.create(:name => "French fries") redirect_to recipe end For example, I thought something like this might work: <%= link_to "Create a default recipe", recipe_path, :method => :post %> I'm not sure if that's a recommended (or even correct) way to do it. Any idea?

  • Xcode C++ debugging

    - by mousebird
I'm looking for a way to have the Xcode IDE pick up on the contents of my weird Boost template classes. Basically, classes complex enough that Xcode can't display their contents correctly. Is there something like the Objective C -description method or toString() in Java that Xcode will look for? At the moment I'm just implementing print() methods and invoking them in gdb, but that's likely to confuse other developers.

  • Enable UIBarButtonItem if multiple UITextFields are all populated

    - by CrystalSkull
I have 3 UITextFields in a grouped UITableView and am trying to figure out the correct logic to only have my 'Save' UIBarButtonItem enabled when none of the UITextFields are empty. I'm currently using the - (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string UITextField delegate method to detect changes to the field character by character, but it is providing inconsistent results. Any ideas?

  • CodePage ID to CodaPage name: GetEncoding equivalent in Delphi?

    - by Steve
Hello all, I'm looking for a Win32 equivalent of the .Net Encoding.GetEncoding Method to be used in Delphi7. What I would like to achieve is to convert a Codepage ID (ie.: 28592) to a Codapage name (iso-8859-2 in this case). I've found a Win32 function called GetCPInfoEx, but that returns a long CodePage name, and I need the short one, like the ones listed on this page: (see Name column) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.text.encoding.aspx Thank you!

  • [iphone] UIControlEventTouchDragEnter doesn't seem to work for catching a tap that slides into a con

    - by mahboudz
I wanted to allow for a method to get called, if a finger was dragged from outside into the bounds of a control. I thought UIControlEventTouchDragEnter would do it, but it doesn't seem to. Does anyone know if there is a way to trigger an action based on a tap sliding into a control? This is what I was trying, but got no calls to my -fingerSlidIn: [aButton addTarget:self action:@selector(fingerSlidIn:withEvent: ) forControlEvents: UIControlEventTouchDragEnter]; Thanks!

  • Can IMAPI2 burn files with the size > 4Gb?

    - by Sergey Skoblikov
IMAPI2 interface IFileSystem uses COM IStream interfaces to represent file data. There is AddTree method that adds specified directory contents to IFileSystem. So AddTree must create IStream's in the process. I wonder what implementation of IStream it uses? If it uses the standard OLE implementation than we have a nasty problem because OLE streams doesn't support files bigger than 4Gb. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
