  • Order by descending based on condition

    - by Vinni
    Hello All, I want to write a LINQ to Entity query which does order by ascending or descending based on input parameter, Is there any way for that. Following is the my code. Please suggest. public List<Hosters_HostingProviderDetail> GetPendingApproval(SortOrder sortOrder) { List<Hosters_HostingProviderDetail> returnList = new List<Hosters_HostingProviderDetail>(); int pendingStateId = Convert.ToInt32(State.Pending); //If the sort order is ascending if (sortOrder == SortOrder.ASC) { var hosters = from e in context.Hosters_HostingProviderDetail where e.ActiveStatusID == pendingStateId orderby e.HostingProviderName ascending select e; returnList = hosters.ToList<Hosters_HostingProviderDetail>(); return returnList; } else { var hosters = from e in context.Hosters_HostingProviderDetail where e.StateID == pendingStateId orderby e.HostingProviderName descending select e; returnList = hosters.ToList<Hosters_HostingProviderDetail>(); return returnList; } }

  • boost multi_index_container and erase performance

    - by rjoshi
    I have a boost multi_index_container declared as below which is indexed by hash_unique id(unsigned long) and hash_non_unique transaction id(long). Insertion and retrieval of elements is fast but when I delete elements, it is much slower. I was expecting it to be constant time as key is hashed. e.g To erase elements from container for 10,000 elements, it takes around 2.53927016 seconds for 15,000 elements, it takes around 7.137100068 seconds for 20,000 elements, it takes around 21.391720757 seconds Is it something I am missing or is it expected behavior? class Session { public: Session() { //increment unique id static unsigned long counter = 0; boost::mutex::scoped_lock guard(mx); counter++; m_nId = counter; } unsigned long GetId() { return m_nId; } long GetTransactionHandle(){ return m_nTransactionHandle; } .... private: unsigned long m_nId; long m_nTransactionHandle; boost::mutext mx; .... }; typedef multi_index_container< Session*, indexed_by< hashed_unique< mem_fun<Session,unsigned long,&Session::GetId> >, hashed_non_unique< mem_fun<Session,unsigned long,&Session::GetTransactionHandle> > > //end indexed_by > SessionContainer; typedef SessionContainer::nth_index<0>::type SessionById; int main() { ... SessionContainer container; SessionById *pSessionIdView = &get<0>(container); unsigned counter = atoi(argv[1]); vector<Session*> vSes(counter); //insert for(unsigned i = 0; i < counter; i++) { Session *pSes = new Session(); container.insert(pSes); vSes.push_back(pSes); } timespec ts; lock_settime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &ts); //erase for(unsigned i = 0; i < counter; i++) { pSessionIdView->erase(vSes[i]->getId()); delete vSes[i]; } lock_gettime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &ts); std::cout << "Total time taken for erase:" << ts.tv_sec << "." << ts.tv_nsec << "\n"; return (EXIST_SUCCESS); }

  • Debugging a HTTP Handler from Visual Studio

    - by O.O.
    I am trying to debug a HTTP Handler in Visual Studio and the break point is not getting hit. Does anyone have an idea on how to go about debugging HTTP Handlers in Visual Studio? I am using VS 2010 Premium, .NET 4.0 on a Windows 7 machine. In my Web Application I have a HTTP Handler in /HTTPHandler/TrackingHandler.cs The following is in my web config file: <system.webServer> <handlers> <add name="TrackingHandler" path="/tx/*" verb="*" type="ProjectNamespace.TrackingHandler" resourceType="Unspecified" preCondition="integratedMode" /> </handlers> </system.webServer> My HTTP Handler looks like below namespace ProjectNamespace { public class TrackingHandler : IHttpHandler { public bool IsReusable { get { return true; } } public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { //Breakpoint on the very first line below string tracker = Path.GetFileName(context.Request.PhysicalPath); ....... } } } I start my Web Application using any random page in Visual Studio Debug using the builtin Web Server. I then maually edit the URL to point to the /tx/ directory and some random string after it. For e.g. my current URL looks like http://localhost:53699/tx/sdfs. I thought this should pull up the breakpoint on the first line of ProcessRequest() but it does not. I’d be grateful for any ideas. O. O.

  • CakePHP dynamic element

    - by Logic Artist
    I am trying to create a message-board type element in a CakePHP app. This element will be displayed on all pages and views that use a particular layout. I want it to display all the messages in the model, then show the add form when a link is clicked, then return to the updated message list when submitted. All this without affecting the current view/page. I have my message model/controller/index set up, with a message board element that requests the index action. This works fine. However I am perplexed about how to return back to the original page/action from which the link was clicked. I can't use $this-referer() because that will link back to the add() action; what I want rather is to link to the page/view before that. Any general pointers on how to achieve something like this?

  • Prim's MST algorithm implementation with Java

    - by user1290164
    I'm trying to write a program that'll find the MST of a given undirected weighted graph with Kruskal's and Prim's algorithms. I've successfully implemented Kruskal's algorithm in the program, but I'm having trouble with Prim's. To be more precise, I can't figure out how to actually build the Prim function so that it'll iterate through all the vertices in the graph. I'm getting some IndexOutOfBoundsException errors during program execution. I'm not sure how much information is needed for others to get the idea of what I have done so far, but hopefully there won't be too much useless information. This is what I have so far: I have a Graph, Edge and a Vertex class. Vertex class mostly just an information storage that contains the name (number) of the vertex. Edge class can create a new Edge that has gets parameters (Vertex start, Vertex end, int edgeWeight). The class has methods to return the usual info like start vertex, end vertex and the weight. Graph class reads data from a text file and adds new Edges to an ArrayList. The text file also tells us how many vertecis the graph has, and that gets stored too. In the Graph class, I have a Prim() -method that's supposed to calculate the MST: public ArrayList<Edge> Prim(Graph G) { ArrayList<Edge> edges = G.graph; // Copies the ArrayList with all edges in it. ArrayList<Edge> MST = new ArrayList<Edge>(); Random rnd = new Random(); Vertex startingVertex = edges.get(rnd.nextInt(G.returnVertexCount())).returnStartingVertex(); // This is just to randomize the starting vertex. // This is supposed to be the main loop to find the MST, but this is probably horribly wrong.. while (MST.size() < returnVertexCount()) { Edge e = findClosestNeighbour(startingVertex); MST.add(e); visited.add(e.returnStartingVertex()); visited.add(e.returnEndingVertex()); edges.remove(e); } return MST; } The method findClosesNeighbour() looks like this: public Edge findClosestNeighbour(Vertex v) { ArrayList<Edge> neighbours = new ArrayList<Edge>(); ArrayList<Edge> edges = graph; for (int i = 0; i < edges.size() -1; ++i) { if (edges.get(i).endPoint() == s.returnVertexID() && !visited(edges.get(i).returnEndingVertex())) { neighbours.add(edges.get(i)); } } return neighbours.get(0); // This is the minimum weight edge in the list. } ArrayList<Vertex> visited and ArrayList<Edges> graph get constructed when creating a new graph. Visited() -method is simply a boolean check to see if ArrayList visited contains the Vertex we're thinking about moving to. I tested the findClosestNeighbour() independantly and it seemed to be working but if someone finds something wrong with it then that feedback is welcome also. Mainly though as I mentioned my problem is with actually building the main loop in the Prim() -method, and if there's any additional info needed I'm happy to provide it. Thank you. Edit: To clarify what my train of thought with the Prim() method is. What I want to do is first randomize the starting point in the graph. After that, I will find the closest neighbor to that starting point. Then we'll add the edge connecting those two points to the MST, and also add the vertices to the visited list for checking later, so that we won't form any loops in the graph. Here's the error that gets thrown: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0, Size: 0 at java.util.ArrayList.rangeCheck(Unknown Source) at java.util.ArrayList.get(Unknown Source) at Graph.findClosestNeighbour(graph.java:203) at Graph.Prim(graph.java:179) at MST.main(MST.java:49) Line 203: return neighbour.get(0); in findClosestNeighbour() Line 179: Edge e = findClosestNeighbour(startingVertex); in Prim()

  • How to implement Xml Serialization with inherited classes in C#

    - by liorafar
    I have two classes : base class name Component and inheritd class named DBComponent [Serializable] public class Component { private string name = string.Empty; private string description = string.Empty; } [Serializable] public class DBComponent : Component { private List<string> spFiles = new List<string>(); // Storage Procedure Files [XmlArrayItem("SPFile", typeof(string))] [XmlArray("SPFiles")] public List<string> SPFiles { get { return spFiles; } set { spFiles = value; } } public DBComponent(string name, string description) : base(name, description) { } } [Serializable] public class ComponentsCollection { private static ComponentsCollection instance = null; private List<Component> components = new List<Component>(); public List<Component> Components { get { return components; } set { components = value; } } public static ComponentsCollection GetInstance() { if (ccuInstance == null) { lock (lockObject) { if (instance == null) PopulateComponents(); } } return instance; } private static void PopulateComponents() { instance = new CCUniverse(); XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(instance.GetType()); instance = xs.Deserialize(XmlReader.Create("Components.xml")) as ComponentsCollection; } } } I want read\write from a Xml file. I know that I need to implement the Serialization for DBComponent class otherwise it will not read it.But i cannot find any simple article for that. all the articles that I found were too complex for this simple scenario. The Xml file looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <ComponentsCollection> <Components> <DBComponent Name="Tenant Historical Database" Description="Tenant Historical Database"> <SPFiles> <SPFile>Setup\TenantHistoricalSP.sql</SPFile> </SPFiles> </DBComponent> <Component Name="Agent" Description="Desktop Agent" /> </Components> </ComponentsCollection> Can someone please give me a simple example of how to read this kind of xml file and what should be implemented ? Thanks Lior

  • Call to C++ COM interface from C# being blocked

    - by dauphic
    I have a C++ DLL that exposes a COM interface. A C# application uses the COM interface. I've recently run into a problem where some calls to the COM interface are taking 500-5000 ms to return, though they should return almost instantly (no longer than 10 ms). Profiling the application shows that all of the delay is being caused by the 'thread being blocked;' no other information is available. There are no locks, etc. in my code, so the blocking has to be occurring internally in the COM/interop code. Only one thread interfaces with the COM DLL. Any ideas what could be causing this, and how I would fix it? EDIT: Further investigation shows that the block is occuring when the C++ returns to the C#.

  • F#, Linux and makefiles

    - by rwallace
    I intend to distribute an F# program as both binary and source so the user has the option of recompiling it if desired. On Windows, I understand how to do this: provide .fsproj and .sln files, which both Visual Studio and MSBuild can understand. On Linux, the traditional solution for C programs is a makefile. This depends on gcc being directly available, which it always is. The F# compiler can be installed on Linux and works under Mono, so that's fine so far. However, as far as I can tell, it doesn't create a scenario where fsc runs the compiler, instead the command is mono ...path.../fsc.exe. This is also fine, except I don't know what the path is going to be. So the full command to run the compiler in my case could be mono ~/FSharp-2.0.0.0/bin/fsc.exe types.fs tptp.fs main.fs -r FSharp.PowerPack.dll except that I'm not sure where fsc.exe will actually be located on the user's machine. Is there a way to find that out within a makefile, or would it be better to fall back on just explaining the above in the documentation and relying on the user to modify the command according to his setup?

  • Will pool the connection help threading in sqlite (and how)?

    - by mamcx
    I currently use a singleton to acces my database (see related question) but now when try to add some background processing everything fall apart. I read the sqlite docs and found that sqlite could work thread-safe, but each thread must have their own db connection. I try using egodatabase that promise a sqlite wrapper with thread safety but is very buggy, so I return to my old FMDB library I start to see how use it in multi-thread way. Because I have all code with the idea of singleton, change everything will be expensive (and a lot of open/close connections could become slow), so I wonder if, as the sqlite docs hint, build a pooling for each connection will help. If is the case, how make it? How know wich connection get from the pool (because 2 threads can't share the connection)? I wonder if somebody already use sqlite in multu-threading with NSOperation or similar stuff, my searching only return "yeah, its possible" but let the details to my imagination...

  • How can I make Swig correctly wrap a char* buffer that is modified in C as a Java Something-or-other

    - by Ukko
    I am trying to wrap some legacy code for use in Java and I was quite happy to see that Swig was able to handle the header file and it generate a great wrapper that almost works. Now I am looking for the deep magic that will make it really work. In C I have a function that looks like this DLL_IMPORT int DustyVoodoo(char *buff, int len, char *curse); This integer returned by this function is an error code in case it fails. The arguments are buff is a character buffer len is the length of the data in the buffer curse the another character buffer that contains the result of calling DustyVoodoo So, you can see where this is going, the result is actually coming back via the third argument. Also len is confusing since it may be the length of both buffers, they are always allocated as being the same size in calling code but given what DustyVoodoo does I don't think that they need be the same. To be safe both buffers should be the same size in practice, say 512 chars. The C code generated for the binding is as follows: SWIGEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_pemapiJNI_DustyVoodoo(JNIEnv *jenv, jclass jcls, jstring jarg1, jint jarg2, jstring jarg3) { jint jresult = 0 ; char *arg1 = (char *) 0 ; int arg2 ; char *arg3 = (char *) 0 ; int result; (void)jenv; (void)jcls; arg1 = 0; if (jarg1) { arg1 = (char *)(*jenv)->GetStringUTFChars(jenv, jarg1, 0); if (!arg1) return 0; } arg2 = (int)jarg2; arg3 = 0; if (jarg3) { arg3 = (char *)(*jenv)->GetStringUTFChars(jenv, jarg3, 0); if (!arg3) return 0; } result = (int)PemnEncrypt(arg1,arg2,arg3); jresult = (jint)result; if (arg1) (*jenv)->ReleaseStringUTFChars(jenv, jarg1, (const char *)arg1); if (arg3) (*jenv)->ReleaseStringUTFChars(jenv, jarg3, (const char *)arg3); return jresult; } It is correct for what it does; however, it misses the fact that cursed is not just an input, it is altered by the function and should be returned as an output. It also does not know that the java Strings are really buffers and should be backed by a suitably sized array. I think that Swig can do the right thing here, I just can't figure out from the documentation how to tell Swig what it needs to know. Any typemap masers in the house?

  • my version of strlcpy

    - by robUK
    Hello, gcc 4.4.4 c89 My program does a lot of string coping. I don't want to use the strncpy as it doesn't nul terminate. And I can't use strlcpy as its not portable. Just a few questions. How can I put my function those its paces to ensure that it is completely safe and stable. Unit testing? Is this good enough for production? size_t s_strlcpy(char *dest, const char *src, const size_t len) { size_t i = 0; /* Always copy 1 less then the destination to make room for the nul */ for(i = 0; i < len - 1; i++) { /* only copy up to the first nul is reached */ if(*src != '\0') { *dest++ = *src++; } else { break; } } /* nul terminate the string */ *dest = '\0'; /* Return the number of bytes copied */ return i; } Many thanks for any suggestions,

  • Detecting Infinite recursion in Python or dynamic languages

    - by drozzy
    Recently I tried compiling program something like this with GCC: int f(int i){ if(i<0){ return 0;} return f(i-1); and it ran just fine. When I inspected the stack frames the compiler optimized the program to use only one frame, by just jumping back to the beginning of the function and only replacing the arguments to f. And - the compiler wasn't even running in optimized mode. Now, when I try the same thing in Python - I hit maximum recursion wall (or stack overflow). Is there way that a dynamic language like python can take advantage of these nice optimizations? Maybe it's possible to use a compiler instead of an interpreter to make this work? Just curious!

  • jquery plugin with multiple functions

    - by tcurdt
    According to the developer documentation jquery plugins are supposed to have only one namespace for all functions they make available. Which is straight forward as long as you only expose a single function per context (static/element). (function($){ var state_a = 0, $.myplugin = function(in_options) { // static return this; } $.fn.myplugin = function(in_options) { // element return this; } })(jQuery); This makes calls like this possible: $("elem").myplugin(options); jQuery.myplugin(options); What's the best approach if you have more than one function and need to share state? I would like to call into my plugin like this: $("elem").myplugin.start(options); $("elem").myplugin.stop(); jQuery.myplugin.start(options); jQuery.myplugin.stop();

  • Android/Java Beginner: Overriding ArrayAdapter's getView

    Firstly I am new to android and Java so this is a beginners question. I have some code that overrides the ArrayAdapter's getView method. Here is the code public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { TextView label = (TextView)convertView; if (convertView == null) { convertView = new TextView(ctxt); label = (TextView)convertView; } label.setText(items[position]); return (convertView); } My question is: why does label.setText(items[position]); affect the convertView return value? How are they related / linked?

  • What is the most efficiant way to get the highest and the lowest value in a Array

What is the fastest way to do that? i have tried: function madmax (arr) { var max = arr[0], min = arr[1] if (min > max) { max = arr[1] min = arr[0] } for (i=1;i<=arr.length;i++){ if( arr[i] > max ) { max = arr[i] }else if( arr[i] < min ) { min = arr[i] } } return max, min } madmax([123, 2, 345, 153, 5, 98, 456, 4323456, 1, 234, 19874, 238, 4]) Is there a simpler way retrieve the max and min value of a array?

  • Managing of shared resources between classes?

    - by Axarydax
    Imagine that I have a several Viewer component that are used for displaying text and they have few modes that user can switch (different font presets for viewing text/binary/hex). What would be the best approach for managing shared objects - for example fonts, find dialog, etc? I figured that static class with lazily initialized objects would be OK, but this might be the wrong idea. static class ViewerStatic { private static Font monospaceFont; public static Font MonospaceFont { get { if (monospaceFont == null) //TODO read font settings from configuration monospaceFont = new Font(FontFamily.GenericMonospace, 9, FontStyle.Bold); return monospaceFont; } } private static Font sansFont; public static Font SansFont { get { if (sansFont == null) //TODO read font settings from configuration sansFont = new Font(FontFamily.GenericSansSerif, 9, FontStyle.Bold); return sansFont; } } }

  • In Google App Engine, what is the simplest way to keep a record of items that you have put into memc

    - by Chris Boesch
    I am starting to use memcache more frequently to avoid having to recalculate things between page requests. When the memcache periodically clears, as it is designed to do, I have to start all over rebuilding various items that I have placed in memcache. What I would like to do is create a very simple model that enables me to periodically save the items that I put into memcache based on the memcache keys that I'm using along with a datetime that is related to the data being memcached. What is the best way to do this? I'm looking for something like this: class MemcacheRecord(db.Model): key = db.StringProperty(required=True) value = #Something that can store whatever memcache can validThru = db.DateTimeProperty(required=True) def set(self, key, value, validThru): #Save a new memcache record newMemcacheRecord = MemcacheRecord(key=key, value=value, validThru=validThru) .. return True # or False def get_latest(self, key): #Get the memcache record with the most recent validThru datetime latestMemcacheRecord = MemcacheRecord.all().order('-validThru').get() return {'validThru':latestMemcacheRecord.validThru, 'value':latestMemcachRecord.value}

  • Should I throw my own ArgumentOutOfRangeException or let one bubble up from below?

    - by Neil N
    I have a class that wraps List< I have GetValue by index method: public RenderedImageInfo GetValue(int index) { list[index].LastRetrieved = DateTime.Now; return list[index]; } If the user requests an index that is out of range, this will throw an ArgumentOutOfRangeException . Should I just let this happen or check for it and throw my own? i.e. public RenderedImageInfo GetValue(int index) { if (index >= list.Count) { throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("index"); } list[index].LastRetrieved = DateTime.Now; return list[index]; } In the first scenario, the user would have an exception from the internal list, which breaks mt OOP goal of the user not needing to know about the underlying objects. But in the second scenario, I feel as though I am adding redundant code. Edit: And now that I think of it, what about a 3rd scenario, where I catch the internal exception, modify it, and rethrow it?

  • Grabbing random object from ArrayList is not random.

    - by Isai
    I am creating a method where if you pass in a parameter of type Random, then it will return a random object. Here is basically what I am trying to do: public T choose(Random r) { int randomInt = r.nextInt(randomList.size()); // randomList is just a instance variable return randomList.get(randomInt); } The random list has this the following strings:[2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, c, c, c, a, a, a, a] Then I made a driver with the following code for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { System.out.print(rndList.choose(rnd)); // rnd is initialized as a static Random variable } However my outputs are not coming out random. I used the debugger and found out that my choose method generates an integer that is relatively low, so it will always print out either 2's or 1's but never c's or a's. I can't figure out why this is happening and help would be greatly appreciated.

  • creating my own context processor in django

    - by dotty
    Hay, I have come to a point where i need to pass certain variables to all my views (mostly custom authentication type variables). I was told writing my own context processor was the best way to do this, but i am having some issues. My settings file looks like this TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS = ( "django.contrib.auth.context_processors.auth", "django.core.context_processors.debug", "django.core.context_processors.i18n", "django.core.context_processors.media", "django.contrib.messages.context_processors.messages", "sandbox.context_processors.say_hello", ) As you can see i have a module called 'context_processors' and a function within that called 'say_hello'. This looks like def say_hello(request): return { 'say_hello':"Hello", } Am i right to assume i can now do this within my views {{ say_hello }} because it doesn't return anything.

    I have a partial class (the main class is a LinqToSql generated class) <DataObject(True)> _ Partial Public Class MBI_Contract <DataObjectMethod(DataObjectMethodType.Select, True)> _ Public Shared Function GetCancelableContracts(ByVal dealer As Dealer) As List(Of MBI_Contract) Return Utilities.GetCancelableContractsForDealer(dealer) End Function End Class Here is the method it's calling Public Function GetCancelableContractsForDealer(ByVal dealer As Dealer) As List(Of MBI_Contract) Dim db As TestDataContext = TestDataContext.Create() Return (From mbi As MBI_Contract In db.MBI_Contracts _ Where mbi.MBI_DealerNumber = dealer.DealerNumber _ AndAlso mbi.MBI_PaidFor = True _ AndAlso mbi.MBI_Deleted = False).ToList() End Function I want to use the ObjectDataSource to drive a DropDownList. <asp:ObjectDataSource ID="contractOds" runat="server" TypeName="MBI_Contract" SelectMethod="GetCancelableContracts" DataObjectTypeName="Dealer"> </asp:ObjectDataSource> My aspx page has a Dealer property that is set in a BasePage. My question is how can I pass this property(object) to the ObjectDataSource, so it can be evaluated in my select method. Does anyone know how I can do this? Or am I totally doing this the wrong way? Thanks for any Advice, Cheers, ~ck in San Diego
