• Drupal node_save and special characters.

  Hello, i'm trying to create nodes and taxonomy terms through a custom php script by using the node_save() function. I'm working on drupal 6. It's working well (thanks to previous questions on stackoverflow) except for accented letters. Indeed, when a title or a taxonomy term contain "é", "è" or "à", the sentence is cut before those special characters. For example, a title like that: "Bonjour les éléphants" will create a node with "Bonjour les " as title. I don't know if it's linked to my database or if i have to use a special encoding in php (iconv() blabla) The fact is, for drupal titles, i can not use html encoding (for example: é is é in html) because drupal will render &eacute and not é... When i create a taxonomy or a title manually, i have no problems and the accented letter is saved in the database as "é". Soo if you can help me to create terms and title with accented letters, that will be great : ) Thank you !

• How to write custom reports in Drupal

  What's the "right" way in Drupal to create reports? I was hoping to use a view but am not having much luck. My goal is to create a table of rows containing three fields: user name, location, SUM of volunteer hours. Once I have this part working, I plan to expose filters for Location and Date. Views Calc only allows you to group by one field. I know Crystal Reports and MSSQL Reporting Services and I was hoping to find a similar kind of thing for Drupal. Is there a framework, examples, or a module to help with this, or do I need to write a custom module implementing the views_alter_SQL hook to get the desired data for each report? • Dropdown Menus In Drupal?

  Hi, I have my Drupal site here so far: selkirk.treethink.net Each Primary Link at the top has a bunch of other primary links under it (sub links) I need to display these sub links when you hover over the parent primary link in a dropdown menu. Everything is in the primary links but there are parents (what you see at the top of the demo) and sub links (what should be in the dropdown). I'm not sure if I set up these menus wrong though...Drupal is a little awkward for me. I did download this module but I am not sure how to get it going to automatically dropdown a primary link's submenu items when rolled over: http://drupal.org/project/jquery_dropdown Thanks, Wade

• Duplicate a Drupal installation from one server to another

  Hello. I have been developing a Drupal 6 site on my PC using XAMPP. I'm done now, and everything looks peachy. Problem is, I need to put all my content (including custom modules and themes) up onto a staging server which only has a fresh Drupal 6 install on it. I can't imagine having to set up all my custom content types and whatnot all over again on the staging server. So I ask, how does one go about doing what I need to do? Which is essentially duplicating my Drupal install from my PC, to the staging server. The staging server is running Linux, and I develop on a Windows PC, if that helps. Thanks in advance.

• drupal: so many js and css files ?

  hi, I've realized I'm loading a lot of resources (24 css and 17 js files) using Drupal. I've several modules installed and they all come with a css and js file. For my website I'm only using 1 additional js plugin (all the other 16 come with Drupal modules). I've not installed useless modules. They are all necessary, and they require js such as swfobject, ajax_views, jquery.media, spamspan, lightbox (modal, video and default js files), etc Same thing with css files: ckeditor, filefield, lightbox, tagadelic, uploadfield, fieldgroup, vews, taxonomy_super_select, html-element, tabs, messages... etc For my website, I only use my theme css zen.css of course. So.. is this normal ? Or I should remove all this stuff? Are drupal websites normally heavy ? thanks

• Drupal, Lightbox: cannot edit the content inside

  hi, I'm using Drupal and Lightbox module to display the content of articles in this website: donatellabernardi.ch/drupal if you click on an article the lightbox is displayed. However I have 2 problems with it: 1) I cannot use the libraries such as the tooltip library qTip from it. (If you move the mouse over the balls, you'll see the tooltips) 2) I cannot invert the title with the balls (tags), because it seems that the template of the node in the lightbox is not controlled by my theme. I tried also to change the node template (in the drupal root folder), swapping title and meta data but it didn't work. thanks

• Drupal does not recognize my website has been installed

  After a successful Drupal install, I was trying to follow the security recommendations and reverted the settings.php file to 444 permissions (read, read, read). Then, all of a sudden, right after doing that, Drupal does not recognize the installation process was completed. It went back to the install screen. Worst of all. I did chmod back to 666 (write, write, write) but it does not work any more. When I move forward as if I was going to install Drupal again, he tells me he does not have permissions to create the files folder under sites/default... But since the installation has already been completed... the files folder is already there... I am puzzled... Could it be some sort of server caching? Since this is one of my first adventures with a Linux server, I am a bit confused. Any help appreciated... Thanks.

• Drupal site Instant Messaging [migrated]

  I am trying to find a module or a standalone solution that I can turn into a module that will allow me to have an instant messaging system like Facebook does on a Drupal site that I am working on. I have never setup a chat system before. My particular requirements are rather stringent. It needs to be a solution where we host the chatting server (if one is needed separate from the website itself). It must use the site's login state (can't use an external system at all, that means no GTalk, Yahoo IM, or AIM). It also must be able to handle up to 1,000 users at any given time. I have looked through the Drupal community and I tried the DXMPP module, but it requires Jquery UI 1.8 and that doesn't work with all of the other things that my site uses (such as Homebox). We do have a Jabber server already setup and ready to go. Does anyone have any thoughts or options here? Thanks! EDIT: We are using Drupal 6.

• Drupal administration theme doesn't apply to Blocks pages (admin/build/block)

  A site I'm creating for a customer in D6 has various images overlaying parts of the main content area. It looks very pretty and they have to be there for the general effect. The problem is, if you use this theme in the administration pages, the images get in the way of everything. My solution was to create a custom admin theme, based on the default one, which has these image areas disabled in the output template files - page.tpl.php The problem is that when you try and edit the blocks page, it uses the default theme and half the blocks admin settings are unclickable behind the images. I KNOW this is by design in Drupal, but it's annoying the hell out of me and is edging towards "bug" rather than "feature" in my mind. It also appears that there is no way of getting around it. You can edit /modules/blocks/block.admin.inc to force Drupal to show the blocks page in the chosen admin theme.   The university where I work is planning to offer Drupal hosting to staff/faculty who want a Drupal site. We've set up Drupal multisite with clean urls and it's mostly working except for some weird redirects. If you have two sites where one is a substring of the other then you'll randomly be redirected to the other site. I tracked the problem to how mod_rewrite does path matching, so with a config file like this: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/drupal RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /drupal/index.php?q=$1 [last,qsappend] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/drupaltest RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /drupaltest/index.php?q=$1 [last,qsappend] /drupaltest will match the /drupal line and all of the links on the /drupaltest page will be rewritten to point to /drupal. If you put the end of string character ($) at the end of each rewrite condition then it will always match on the correct site and the links will always be rewritten correctly. That breaks down as soon as a user logs in though because the query string is appended to the url so just the base url will no longer match. You can also fix the problem by ordering the sites in the config file so that the smallest substring will always be last. I suggested storing all of the sites in a table and then querying, sorting, and rewriting the config file every time a Drupal site is requested so that we could guarantee the order. The system administrator thought that was kludgy and didn't address the root problem. Disabling clean urls should also fix the problem but the users really want them so I'd prefer to keep them if possible. I think we could also fix it by using an .htaccess file in each site to handle the clean url rewriting but that also seems suboptimal since it will generate a higher load on the server and the server is intended to host the majority of the university's external facing web content. Is there some magic I can do with mod_rewrite to get it to work? Would another solution be better? Am I doing something the wrong way to begin with?

• Ubuntu 12.04 installation aborts without giving any errors on Sony Vaio

  I'm not able to install the release ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386 on the laptop below: Sony Vaio VGN-FE21H CPU: Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz Memory: 2GB DDR2 533MHz HDD: 100GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 7400 256MB I'm using the ISO "ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso" burned into a DVD. I know the ISO is OK because I used it to successfully install on Virtualbox. Live DVD boots and runs OK, but I cannot install from it or directly from the boot menu. The installation goes through all the steps until the final part where is asked the Name, Name of PC and password. The problem is in the next step where it should start copying files and present some screens and features of Ubuntu. In this part the installation just close without any error message. If I am running the installation inside the live DVD it closes and returns to the home screen of the Live. If I am running straight from the boot it closes the graphic interface and restarts the PC. Does anybody know or faced the same problem?
