  • How to prevent getting infected by rogue security applications

    - by Ieyasu Sawada
My computer never got infected with a virus before, because I'm using Web of Trust browser plugin, sandboxie and Avast Free antivirus. But today, it got infected with a rogue security application called antivirus.net. I have already removed it using MBAM, SAS, and Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool. And by the way, I was using MSE when my laptop got infected. Seems like the rogue application just killed off the MSE process. And I never even got a warning. I was using the wi-fi from our school, which I think is the cause since most of the computers in our laboratory has rogue applications on it. My question is, how do I prevent this from happening again? It took me about 6 hours to disinfect my computer and I don't want it to happen again. Please enlighten me if these rogue applications really just pop out of nowhere. Note I'm not dumb enough to agree with installing rogue security applications. It just came out of nowhere. I'm happy with MSE, well not after it let antivirus.net penetrate my computer. I've done a little bit of research and it says that it needs the permission of the user to actually install it in the computer: http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=1245 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_security_software Is it possible that other computers in our school network have agreed to install those? Or maybe the network admin?

  • How to create hash or yml from top level attributes values of node?

    - by Sarah Haskins
I have a chef recipe where I want to take all of the attributes under node['cfn']['environment'] and write them to a yml file. I could do something like this (it works fine): content = { "environment_class" => node['cfn']['environment']['environment_class'], "node_id" => node['cfn']['environment']['node_id'], "reporting_prefix" => node['cfn']['environment']['reporting_prefix'], "cfn_signal_url" => node['cfn']['environment']['signal_url'] } yml_string = YAML::dump(content) file "/etc/configuration/environment/platform.yml" do mode 0644 action :create content "#{yml_string}" end But I don't like that I have to explicitly list out the names of the attributes. If later I add a new attributes it would be nice if it automatically was included in the written out yml file. So I tried something like this: yml_string = node['cfn']['environment'].to_yaml But because the node is actually a Mash, I get a platform.yml file like this (it contains a lot of unexpected nesting that I don't want): --- !ruby/object:Chef::Node::Attribute normal: tags: [] cfn: environment: &25793640 reporting_prefix: Platform2 signal_url: https://cloudformation-waitcondition-us-east-1.s3.amazonaws.com/... environment_class: Dev node_id: i-908adf9 ... But what I want is this: ---- reporting_prefix: Platform2 signal_url: https://cloudformation-waitcondition-us-east-1.s3.amazonaws.com/... environment_class: Dev node_id: i-908adf9 How can I achieve the desired yml output w/o explicitly listing the attributes by name?

  • Ubuntu "No space left on device" for /home, df shows 100% full, ds shows much, much less

    - by Jon Cram
    On an Ubuntu 12.04 server, normal users can no longer create or add to files in /home, encountering a "No space left on device" error. The /home directory has a capacity of 1.7 terabytes and as far as I can tell is nowhere near full in terms of actual data stored or inodes used. df -h shows: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/md2 1.0T 18G 955G 2% / udev 7.7G 4.0K 7.7G 1% /dev tmpfs 3.1G 320K 3.1G 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 7.7G 0 7.7G 0% /run/shm cgroup 7.7G 0 7.7G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup /dev/md3 1.7T 1.7T 0 100% /home /dev/md1 496M 45M 426M 10% /boot /home indeed looks rather full. du -hs /home suggests otherwise: 1.4G /home There appears no inode issue - df -i: Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/md2 67108864 75334 67033530 1% / udev 2013497 527 2012970 1% /dev tmpfs 2015816 440 2015376 1% /run none 2015816 2 2015814 1% /run/lock none 2015816 1 2015815 1% /run/shm cgroup 2015816 9 2015807 1% /sys/fs/cgroup /dev/md3 113909760 105981 113803779 1% /home /dev/md1 131072 239 130833 1% /boot I recently deleted a many gigabytes of application cache and log data from /home, however this was in the tens of gigabytes at best and nowhere near the capcity of /home. • Postfix relay all mail through SES except for one sending domain / address

    - by Kevin
I'm thinking this is really really super simple, but I can't figure out what I need to do. I don't mess with Postfix much (Just let it run and do its thing) so I've got no idea where to even start with this. We have postfix currently configured to relay all mail out through SES using the code below. We need to modify this so that emails sent from one of our domains (domain.com) DO NOT go through SES. Everything else should continue to flow out through the SES connection. I'm assuming this is like a one line thing but my google skills are not helping me at all. relayhost = email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com:25 smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_use_tls = yes smtp_tls_security_level = encrypt smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt smtp_destination_concurrency_limit = 450 Update I have created sender_transport file in /etc/postfix. In it is @domain.com smtp: I then ran this through postmap and placed sender_dependent_default_transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sender_transport above the above block of code and restarted postfix, but still all email is going out through SES. Log after sending Oct 22 14:38:48 web postfix/smtp[19446]: 4B19D640002: to=<[email protected]>, relay=email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com[54.243.47.187]:25, delay=1.4, delays=0.01/0/0.92/0.44, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 Ok 00000141e21b181f-ee6f7c4f-f0f5-4b0f-ba69-2db146a4f988-000000) Oct 22 14:38:48 web postfix/qmgr[19435]: 4B19D640002: removed I don't think this log is what you're looking for, but it's the only thing that is logged when mail goes out, and this is with me running /usr/sbin/postfix -v start manually and not with the init script.

  • Rails application keeps timing out when attempting to connect to Postgresql DB

    - by Corillian
I'm hosting a postgresql database on a small windows azure Ubuntu 13.04 VM with a default postgresql.conf. I have a Rails application running on a medium windows azure Ubuntu 13.04 VM. When accessing the postgresql database the rails application is constantly timing out. In its database.yml I have the connection pool size set to 120 and the timeout set to 15 seconds. Despite this my rails logs are full of the following error message: ActiveRecord::ConnectionTimeoutError: could not obtain a database connection within 5 seconds (waited 5.0023203 seconds). The max pool size is currently 120; consider increasing it. My postgresql.conf has a max connection limit of 120, making it any larger prevents the server from being able to successfully restart. I've also made sure that ssl was off in the postgresql.conf per this article but beyond that I have no idea what's going on. My postgresql logs don't contain any info indicating something is going wrong. My website is getting ~1k hits per day so perhaps a small VM instance just isn't powerful enough? I appreciate any assistance! [Edit1] The postgresql database is in a separate cloud service within the same affinity group. For example: db small VM: mydatabase.cloudapp.net (Affinity Group US East) forums medium VM: myforums.cloudapp.net (Affinity Group US East) On the database server I have opened port 5432. The connection to the database server from the forums server is using its hostname. Is it possible that the DNS resolution is what's taking so long?

  • Block filters using fragment shaders

    - by Nils
    I was following this tutorial using Apple's OpenGL Shader Builder (tool similar to Nvidia's fx composer, but simpler). I could easily apply the filters, but I don't understand if they worked correct (and if so how can I improve the output). For example the blur filter: OpenGL itself does some image processing on the textures, so if they are displayed in a higher resolution than the original image, they are blurred already by OpenGL. Second the blurred part is brighter then the part not processed, I think this does not make sense, since it just takes pixels from the direct neighborhood. This is defined by float step_w = (1.0/width); Which I don't quite understand: The pixels are indexed using floating point values?? Edit: I forgot to attach the exact code I used: Fragment Shader // Originally taken from: http://www.ozone3d.net/tutorials/image_filtering_p2.php#part_2 #define KERNEL_SIZE 9 float kernel[KERNEL_SIZE]; uniform sampler2D colorMap; uniform float width; uniform float height; float step_w = (1.0/width); float step_h = (1.0/height); // float step_w = 20.0; // float step_h = 20.0; vec2 offset[KERNEL_SIZE]; void main(void) { int i = 0; vec4 sum = vec4(0.0); offset[0] = vec2(-step_w, -step_h); // south west offset[1] = vec2(0.0, -step_h); // south offset[2] = vec2(step_w, -step_h); // south east offset[3] = vec2(-step_w, 0.0); // west offset[4] = vec2(0.0, 0.0); // center offset[5] = vec2(step_w, 0.0); // east offset[6] = vec2(-step_w, step_h); // north west offset[7] = vec2(0.0, step_h); // north offset[8] = vec2(step_w, step_h); // north east // Gaussian kernel // 1 2 1 // 2 4 2 // 1 2 1 kernel[0] = 1.0; kernel[1] = 2.0; kernel[2] = 1.0; kernel[3] = 2.0; kernel[4] = 4.0; kernel[5] = 2.0; kernel[6] = 1.0; kernel[7] = 2.0; kernel[8] = 1.0; // TODO make grayscale first // Laplacian Filter // 0 1 0 // 1 -4 1 // 0 1 0 /* kernel[0] = 0.0; kernel[1] = 1.0; kernel[2] = 0.0; kernel[3] = 1.0; kernel[4] = -4.0; kernel[5] = 1.0; kernel[6] = 0.0; kernel[7] = 2.0; kernel[8] = 0.0; */ // Mean Filter // 1 1 1 // 1 1 1 // 1 1 1 /* kernel[0] = 1.0; kernel[1] = 1.0; kernel[2] = 1.0; kernel[3] = 1.0; kernel[4] = 1.0; kernel[5] = 1.0; kernel[6] = 1.0; kernel[7] = 1.0; kernel[8] = 1.0; */ if(gl_TexCoord[0].s<0.5) { // For every pixel sample the neighbor pixels and sum up for( i=0; i<KERNEL_SIZE; i++ ) { // select the pixel with the concerning offset vec4 tmp = texture2D(colorMap, gl_TexCoord[0].st + offset[i]); sum += tmp * kernel[i]; } sum /= 16.0; } else if( gl_TexCoord[0].s>0.51 ) { sum = texture2D(colorMap, gl_TexCoord[0].xy); } else // Draw a red line { sum = vec4(1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0); } gl_FragColor = sum; } Vertex Shader void main(void) { gl_TexCoord[0] = gl_MultiTexCoord0; gl_Position = ftransform(); }

  • Persevering & Friday Night Big Ideas

    - by Oracle Accelerate for Midsize Companies
by Jim Lein, Oracle Midsize Programs Every successful company, personal accomplishment, and philanthropic endeavor starts with one good idea. I have my best ideas on Friday evenings. The creative side of my brain is stimulated by end of week endorphins. Free thinking. Anything is possible. But, as my kids love to remind me, most of Dad's Friday Night Big Ideas (FNBIs) fizzle on the drawing board. Usually there's one barrier blocking the way that seems insurmountable by noon on Monday. For example, trekking the 486 mile Colorado Trail is on my bucket list. Since I have a job, I'll have to do it in bits and pieces--day hikes, weekends, and a vacation week here and there. With my trick neck, backpacking is not an option. How to survive equip myself for overnight backcountry travel was that one seemingly insurmountable barrier.  Persevering Lewis and Clark wouldn't have given up so I explored options and, as I blogged about back in December, I had an FNBI to hire llamas to carry my load. Last weekend, that idea came to fruition. Early Saturday morning, I met up with Bill, the owner of Antero Llamas, for an overnight training expedition along segment 14 of the Colorado Trail with a string of twelve llamas. It was a crash course on learning how to saddle, load, pasture, and mediate squabbles. Amazingly, we left the trailhead with me, the complete novice, at the lead. Instead of trying to impart three decades of knowledge on me in two days, Bill taught me two things: "Go With the Flow" and "Plan B". It worked. There were times I would be lost in thought for long stretches of time until one snort would remind me that I had a string of twelve llamas trailing behind. A funny thing happened along the trail... Up until last Saturday, my plan had been to trek all 28 segments of the trail east to west and sequentially. Out of some self-imposed sense of decorum. That plan presented myriad logistical challenges such as impassable snow pack on the Continental Divide when segment 6 is up next. On Sunday, as we trekked along the base of 14,000 ft peaks, I applied Bill's llama handling philosophy to my quest and came up with a much more realistic and enjoyable strategy for achieving my goal.  Seize opportunities to hike regardless of order. Define my own segments. Go west to east for awhile if it makes more sense. Let the llamas carry more creature comforts. Chill out.  I will still set foot on all 486 miles of the trail. Technically, the end result will be the same. And I and my traveling companions--human and camelid--will enjoy the journey more. Much more. Got Big Ideas of Your Own? Check out Tongal. It is engaged in the exploration, acquisition, integration, and efficient development of oil and gas fields outside the Russian Federation to promote transforming LUKOIL into a transnational energy company. In 2010, the company signed a 20-year development project for the giant, West Qurna 2 oil field in Iraq. Executing 10,000 to 15,000 project activities simultaneously on 14 major construction and drilling projects in Iraq for the West Qurna-2 project meant the company needed a clear picture, in real time, of dependencies between its capital construction, geologic exploration and sinking projects—required for its building infrastructure oil field development projects in Iraq. LUKOIL Overseas Holding deployed Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management to generate structured project management information and optimize planning, monitoring, and analysis of all engineering and commercial activities—such as tenders, and bulk procurement of materials and equipment—related to oil field development projects. A word from LUKOIL Overseas Holding Ltd. “Previously, we created project schedules on desktop computers and uploaded them to the project server to be merged into one big file for each project participant to access. This was not scalable, as we’ve grown and now run up to 15,000 activities in numerous projects and subprojects at any time. With Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management, we can now work concurrently on projects with many team members, enjoy absolute security, and issue new baselines for all projects and project participants once a week, with ease.” – Sergey Kotov, Head of IT and the Communication Office, LUKOIL Mid-East Ltd. Oracle Primavera Solutions: · Facilitated managing dependencies between projects by enabling the general scheduler to reschedule all projects and subprojects once a week, realigning 10,000 to 15,000 project activities that the company runs at any time · Replaced Microsoft Project and a paper-based system with a complete solution that provides structured project data · Enhanced data security by establishing project management security policies that enable only authorized project members to edit their project tasks, while enabling each project participant to view all project data that are relevant to that individual’s task · Enabled the company to monitor project progress in comparison to the projected plan, based on physical project assets to determine if each project is on track to conclude within its time and budget limitations To view the full list of solutions view here. “Oracle Gold Partner Parma Telecom was key to our successful Primavera deployment, implementing the software’s basic functionalities, such as project content, timeframes management, and cost management, in addition to performing its integration with our enterprise resource planning system and intranet portal within ten months and in accordance with budgets,” said Rafik Baynazarov, head of the master planning and control office, LUKOIL Mid-East Ltd. “ To read the full version of the customer success story, please view here.

  • Does *every* project benefit from written specifications?

    - by nikie
I know this is holy war territory, so please read the question to the end before answering. There are many cases where written specifications make a lot of sense. For example, if you're a contractor and you want to get paid, you need written specs. If you're working in a team with 20 persons, you need written specs. If you're writing a programming language compiler or interpreter (and it's not perl), you'll usually write a formal specification. I don't doubt that there are many more cases where written specifications are a really good idea. I just think that there are cases where there's so little benefit in written specs, that it doesn't outweigh the costs of writing and maintaining them. EDIT: The close votes say that "it is difficult to say what is asked here", so let me clarify: The usefulness of written, detailed specifications is often claimed like a dogma. (If you want examples, look at the comments.) But I don't see the use of them for the kind of development I'm doing. So what is asked here is: How would written specifications help me? Background information: I work for a small company that's developing vertical market software. If our product is easier to use and has better performance than the competition, it sells. If it's harder to use, even if it behaves 100% as the specification says, it doesn't sell. So there are no "external forces" for having written specs. The advantage would have to be somewhere in the development process. Now, I can see how frozen specifications would make a developer's life easier. But we'll never have frozen specs. If we see in the middle of development that feature X is not intuitive to use the way it's specified, then we can only choose between changing the specification or developing a product that won't sell. You'll probably ask by now: How do you know when you're done? Well, we're continually improving our product. The competition does the same. So (hopefully) we're never done. We keep improving the software, and when we reach a point when the benefits of the improvements we've added since the last release outweigh the costs of an update, we create a new release that is then tested, localized, documented and deployed. This also means that there's rarely any schedule pressure. Nobody has to do overtime to make a deadline. If the feature isn't done by the time we want to release the next version, it'll simply go into the next version. The next question might be: How do your developers know what they're supposed to implement? The answer is: They have a lot of domain knowledge. They know the customers business well enough, so a high-level description of the feature (or even just the problem that the customer needs solved) is enough to implement it. If it's not clear, the developer creates a few fake screens to get feedback from marketing/management or customers, but this is nowhere near the level of detail of actual specifications. This might be inefficient for larger teams, but for a small team with low turnover it works quite well. It has the additional benefit that the developer in question often comes up with a better solution than the person writing the specs might have. This question is already getting very long, but let me address one last point: Testing. Like I said in the beginning, if our software behaves 100% like the spec says, it still can be crap. In fact, if it's so unintuitive that you need a spec to know how to test it, it probably is crap. It makes sense to have fixed, written tests for some core functionality and for regression bugs, but again, this is nowhere near a full written spec of how the software should behave when. The main test is: hand the software to a user who doesn't know it yet and tell him to use the new feature X. If she can figure out how to use it and it works, it works.

  • JqGrid Add custom button to Row

    - by oirfc
Hi there, I am trying to add a custom button to a JqGrid that implements a 'Check Out' process. Basically, every row has a 'Check Out' button that if clicked should be able to send a post back to the server and update a shopping cart and then change the button text to 'Undo Check Out'. So far I have: colNames: ['Id', ... , 'Action' ], colModel: [ { name: 'Id', sortable: false, width: 1, hidden: true}, ... { name: 'action', index: 'action', width: 75, sortable: false } ], ... gridComplete: function() { var ids = jQuery("#east-grid").jqGrid('getDataIDs'); for (var i = 0; i < ids.length; i++) { var cl = ids[i]; checkout = "<input style='height:22px;width:75px;' type='button' value='Check Out' onclick=\" ??? \" />"; jQuery("#east-grid").jqGrid('setRowData', ids[i], { action: checkout }); } }, ... Where '???' is the part I need to solve. Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Pass data from one form to another on a seperate page

    - by Micanio
I am building a price/distance calculator with Google Maps API and am trying to pass the info from the calculator to a booking form on a separate page. My first form has 2 submit buttons - one to make the calculation, and one to submit the relevant data to the booking form. I'm stuck trying to make the 2nd button work. Once the API calculation has been made, I get 4 values - From, To, Cost, Distance. I am trying to pass the From, To and Cost values into my booking form by clicking the second button. But I can;t seem to get it to work. I've tried POST and GET but I think I may have been doing something wrong with both. Any help is appreciated. • How to use delegate to perform callback between caller and web service helper class?

    - by codemonkie
I have 2 classes A and B, where they belongs to the same namespace but resides in seperate files namely a.cs and b.cs, where class B essentially is a helper wrapping a web service call as follow: public class A { public A() // constructor { protected static B b = new B(); } private void processResult1(string result) { // come here when result is successful } private void processResult2(string result) { // come here when result is failed } static void main() { b.DoJobHelper(...); } } public class B { private com.nowhere.somewebservice ws; public B() { this.ws = new com.nowhere.somewebservice(); ws.JobCompleted += new JobCompletedEventHandler(OnCompleted); } void OnCompleted(object sender, JobCompletedEventArgs e) { string s = e.Result; Guid taskID = (Guid)e.UserState; switch (s) { case "Success": // Call processResult1(); break; case "Failed": // Call processResult2(); break; default: break; } } public void DoJobHelper() { Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); ws.DoJob(..., userState); } } (1) I have seen texts on the net on using delegates for callbacks but failed to apply that to my case. All I want to do is to call the appropriate processResult() method upon OnCompleted() event, but dunno how to and where to declare the delegate: public delegate void CallBack(string s); (2) There is a sender object passed in to OnCompleted() but never used, did I miss anything there? Or how can I make good use of sender? Any helps appreciated.

  • How can I direct edge to get out of the diamond on the right?

    - by Didier Trosset
I have a simple dot diagram to show how to perform tests. PerformTests; PerformTests<---+ PerformTests -> TestsPassed; | | TestsPassed [shape="diamond"]; v | TestsPassed -> Release [label="Yes"]; TestsPassed | TestsPassed -> FixErrors [label="No"]; Y| N\ | FixErrors -> PerformTests; v FixErrors Release The diagram shows square boxes for all nodes, except TestPassed that has a diamond shape. My issue is here. I'd like the edge that goes outside of the diamond for No to be getting out of the diamond at the right (east) instead of oblique down-right (south-east). What I have What I want ^ ^ / \ / \ < > < >---> \ /\ \ / v \ v I've seen such compass_pt in the dot grammar, but cannot figure out how to use it. I what I want possible, and how to do it?

  • Does android maps support ground overlay?

    - by wmh1108
I have a weather image I would like to use as an overlay in the google maps android api. I would like to achieve the same result that I get from using GroundOverlay in KML files, such as <GroundOverlay> <name>myimage</name> <Icon> <href>myimage.png</href> <viewBoundScale>0.75</viewBoundScale> </Icon> <LatLonBox> <north>75.6088</north> <south>5.0121</south> <east>182.2805</east> <west>120.6795</west> </LatLonBox> </GroundOverlay> The above will ensure that the 4 corners of my image stay anchored to the 4 lat/long points listed, regardless of scrolling, zooming etc.. Is there a way to accomplish this using the google api/maps provided for android?

  • Rotate MapView in Android

    - by Matthew B.
    I am writing an Android app where one of the features is that the map will rotate according to the compass (i.e. if the phone is pointing east, the map will be oriented so that the east side of the map is on top). Previous answers that I have found suggested over writing the onDraw() method in mapView, however, the api changed the method to final so it cannot be overwritten. As a result I have tried to overwrite the dispatchDraw() method like so: Note: -compass is a boolean that if true, rotate the view -bearing is a float variable that has the degrees that the view should rotate protected void dispatchDraw(Canvas canvas) { canvas.save(); if (compass) { final float w = this.getWidth(); final float h = this.getHeight(); final float scaleFactor = (float)(Math.sqrt(h * h + w * w) / Math.min(w, h)); final float centerX = w / 2.0f; final float centerY = h / 2.0f; canvas.rotate(bearing, centerX, centerY); canvas.scale(scaleFactor, scaleFactor, centerX, centerY); } super.dispatchDraw(canvas); canvas.restore(); }

  • Can you recommend an easy to use easy to develop CMS?

    - by el_at_yahoo
We need some easy way to manage web sites at our company, and we are evaluating some CMS tools for this purpose. We do not yet know what features the sites will need to have (but it will definitely be something with lots of functionalities), so we are looking for something with lots of features and more importantly to be easily extensible (if it does not have some feature, we at least want to be able to build-it by ourselves). We have no experience with Content Management Systems but we do with Java, so it has to be something written in Java. We evaluated some tools and from our perspective the following seem the promising of them (in no particular order): OpenCMS dotCMS (Community Edition vs Enterprise Edition) InfoGlue Alfresco (EE vs CE) Magnolia (EE vs EE Pro vs CE) Jahia (CE vs EE) Since we have no experience with either one of them, we were wondering if someone of you who have can share some information about how good they are or how easily they can be used and extended. I know similar questions have been asked on SO and I also know this is highly subjective and people will vote for closing it as soon as it is posted, but for us it is important to know what difficulties other people have been facing in using the above tools (we don’t want to walk a path that takes nowhere if other people already know it leads nowhere). Others could then vote on the posted answers if they agree or not. From your experience, which from the above mentioned CMSs is the more easily extensible, the easier to use, the easiest to learn etc? Thank you and Happy Holidays to all.

  • Best City in Australia for Dedicated Hosting [closed]

    - by Brian Stinson
We are looking to duplicate a copy of our database and application servers to serve our customers in Australia. We are looking for a well connected datacenter providing dedicated hosting (full machine rental) to take database updates and the like from our main site in Boston, MA. Which general location/city in Australia is best connected? East Coast? West Coast? If you have individual datacenter recommendations those are helpful as well.

  • Sirius Satellite Radio Streaming via XBOX 360

    - by Kyle B.
Anyone have any luck with this? I've found a number of articles which point to an application uSirius which is apparently discontinued (bought out by Apple or something it looks like) but it is nowhere I have found. Basically I know media center has some baked in functionality for XM radio streaming, but nothing for Sirius radio. Anyone have any luck with this? Thanks, Kyle

  • VLAN ID 4095 for guest VLAN tagging

    - by user121282
Just want to know if it's true that if you use the VLAN ID 4095 for guest VLAN tagging, then vMotion will not work correctly as there is nowhere to pass back the reverse arp to? So, the problem we have noticed is when we have vmotioned VM's that are tagged on our trunk network, you cannot ping them from anywhere between 30-300 seconds. The hosts don't know which VLAN the guest is on. Is this right and also the correct behaviour? Thanks

  • Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive: Filesystem on the disk?

    - by JJarava
Hi all! I've got to deal with a malfunctioning "Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive", and I was wondering if anybody knew what file system format does Iomega use on the disk? I've been trying to find the answer online, but i've got nowhere, and checking an obviously malfucntioning unit is not going to give me any assurance. Thanks a lot

  • Is real-time or synchronous replication possible over WAN link?

    - by johnnyb10
The company I work for is looking to implement truly real-time file replication with file locking over a WAN link that spans over 2000 miles. We currently have a 16-drive SAN setup in our east coast office. We also have an office out in Colorado that will have the same exact SAN setup. The idea is to have those two SANs contain the same exact data at all times, which will allow us to work with the same data pool, and which will also provide use with an offsite backup solution, should a failure occur on either end. We're running Server 2008. The objective is to enable users in the east coast office to work on files and have those changes be instantly updated on the Colorado SAN as well. We also need there to be file locking so that there will be no conflicts or overwritten changes if users attempt to work on the same file. Is this scenario even possible, at speeds that would make the files usable? And if so, what software would we need to pull this off? As I understand it, DFS-R does not provide file locking, so if we used that, we would need to go with a third-party product like Peerlock. But I don't even know if DFS-R is an option. Can it replicate quickly enough over a WAN link? Can any product? It seems that if we were to use synchronous replication, the programs would be unacceptably slow, as every write would have to wait for confirmation from the other end of the link. But if we used asynchronous replication, what kind of latency would we be looking at? There is a product from GlobalScape called WAFS that claims to provide "File coherence with real-time file locking, file release, and synchronization" and says that "As files are modified, changes are mirrored instantly using intelligent byte-level differencing to minimize the impact on network bandwidth". So this sounds like synchronous replication, but that doesn't even seem possible, given physical limitations such as the speed of light. If anyone has any experience with this kind of setup, or knows whether it's even possible, I'd appreciate your input and suggestions, including recommendations for software that we should check out.

  • Trying to use the 7-zip self extracting archive GUI and it fails [closed]

    - by djangofan
Trying to use the 7-zip self extracting archive GUI and it fails. When I try to create a "Self Extracting Installer" option, at the end of the install it runs my batch file and it appears to be extracting all the files just before it does that, but after extraction, the files are nowhere to be found (except within the .7z archive). Any idea on why this occurs? https://code.google.com/p/sfx-creator/
