• Unity works on my PC but not on the Server. What did I miss?

  I have a web service using Microsoft Unity to hook the pieces together.  It all works fine on my PC but when I put it on the web server, I receive this error message: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail]: The value of the property 'type' cannot be parsed. The error is: Method 'GetClaimsForUser' in type 'WebService.Implementation.ClaimsRetriever' from assembly 'WebService.Implementation, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=62cac0f1a908971a' does not have an implementation. • Should I return iterators or more sophisticated objects?

  Say I have a function that creates a list of objects. If I want to return an iterator, I'll have to return iter(a_list). Should I do this, or just return the list as it is? My motivation for returning an iterator is that this would keep the interface smaller -- what kind of container I create to collect the objects is essentially an implementation detail On the other hand, it would be wasteful if the user of my function may have to recreate the same container from the iterator which would be bad for performance.

• Problem animating in Unity/Orthello 2D. Can't move gameObject

  I have a enemy npc that moves left and right in a corridor. It's animated with 2 sprites using Orthello 2D Framework. If I untick the animation's play on start and looping, the npc moves correctly. If I turn it on, the npc tries to move but is pulled back to his starting position again and again because of the animation loop. If I turn looping off during runtime, the npc moves correctly again. What did I do wrong? • Gnome 3 and compiz, everything works except Explode and Leaf Spread animations

  I am using 11.10 with Gnome 3, I have installed Compiz, and have got it functioning almost how I want it. I want my windows to Leaf Spread, which seems to work fine for a few minutes after I enable it and restart my machine. However, over the time of a few window closes, I notice that the objects are not showing up little by little until the Leaf Spread just doesn't show at all? This really isn't a big deal, but I'd like things to work properly. Can anyone shed some light on this?

• Screen blink twice every 10 seconds on ubuntu 12.04

  On 12.04 64-bit, about every 5 seconds my screen blinks twice. Even during installation of Ubuntu from CD, this happens during the complete process. I had no problems with earlier Ubuntu versions (earlier version was 10.04LTS 64-bit) System specs: I7-2600K MSI 7681 Motherboard 16 GB RAM 2 x Nvidia 560 card SLI (only 1 screen on 1 card active during install process) This flickering is driving me crazy, please help.

• 403 Forbidden for /home/my-username/Dropbox/Hemsidor as directory root

  I'm trying setup Apache to point the directory root to /home/my-username/Dropbox/Hemsidor but when I go to localhost I got 403 Forbidden. I don't have any .htaccess file in the home directory (Hemsidor) so I don't know what the problem is. I have tested to add Options +FollowSymLinks -SymLinksIfOwnerMatch in my httpd.conf file and then restarted Apache but with no luck. What's wrong? Thanks in advance.

• A little gem from MPN&ndash;FREE online course on Architectural Guidance for Migrating Applications to Windows Azure Platform

  I know a lot of technical people who work in partners (ISVs, System Integrators etc). I know that virtually none of them would think of going to the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) learning portal to find some deep and high quality technical content. Instead they would head to MSDN, Channel 9, msdev.com etc. I am one of those people :-) Hence imagine my surprise when i stumbled upon this little gem Architectural Guidance for Migrating Applications to Windows Azure Platform (your company and hence your live id need to be a member of MPN – which is free to join). This is first class stuff – and represents about 4 hours which is really 8 if you stop and ponder :) Course Structure The course is divided into eight modules.  Each module explores a different factor that needs to be considered as part of the migration process. Module 1:  Introduction:  This section provides an introduction to the training course, highlighting the values of the Windows Azure Platform for developers. Module 2:  Dynamic Environment: This section goes into detail about the dynamic environment of the Windows Azure Platform. This session will explain the difference between current development states and the Windows Azure Platform environment, detail the functions of roles, and highlight development considerations to be aware of when working with the Windows Azure Platform. Module 3:  Local State: This session details the local state of the Windows Azure Platform. • Is my webhost infected? [on hold]

  I have 2 websites, and on both websites, randomly on time, get's redirected automatically to porn sites. I can't figure out if it's something in the code or if the webhost is infected somehow. The two sites is: http://www.storkas.com/vm and http://www.prowebdesign.no/vm. Where should i start to find out what's happening..? I scanned the sites on hxxp://sitecheck.sucuri.net. One odd thing i saw there, is a reference to: hxxp://js.nohealth.org/js/jquery-1.1.js. I do not have this in my html code..

• My first Windows Phone 7 application is live &ndash; from zero to submitted in 5 hours

  Tuesday evening I found myself minus family. I decided to use the time to “have a crack at this Silverlight Phone 7 stuff”. From zero (no experience, no tools installed, no membership on the AppHub) to submitted for approval took me from 8pm to 1am – with the last hour messing around with png files in Paint to complete the submission process! Two days later on Thursday it was approved and is now in the marketplace for you to install - or not :-) The application is very simple but it works and looks “finished” – and importantly I learnt a lot about what is involved and the power of our tooling to make this pretty easy to get going. Go on, give it a go by popping over to the App Hub. You do need to pay $99 to join the App Hub to publish but you can start by downloading the free tools and just work with the included emulator. • my application icon won't show in Ubuntu 12.04 session fallback mode

  I have a Python application that shows a systray icon, but it just won't appear in Ubuntu 12.04 session fallback mode (Gnome Classic WITH effects). It appears in 10.04, and in 12.04 with Unity. The problem is just in Gnome Classic. I've already set: gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']" and I installed indicator-applet-complete but Alt-Win-right click won't work Anyone has any idea what can be wrong ?

• Is there a way to take credit cards on my website without needing a merchant account/payment gateway?

  I've been looking for a service like this but can't find one -- it boggles my mind that such a thing doesn't exist. The ideal thing I'm looking for would be something like this: User fills out a form on my website I submit data to the service (cc #, payment amount) I get paid perhaps monthly by the service the amounts that were charged (less a fee) This is more or less how accepting paypal for payments works, except it takes my users to paypal's site and forces them to create a paypal account etc, which I'd like to avoid. Does such a service exist?

• Should I continue to learn and program using ansi c or non standard? [closed]

  I am a Cs Student, enthusiastic about programming. C is my first programming language that I learned. (Never been exposed to programming, data structures, algorithms before) I failed the exam because I studied on my own and didn't know how to use windows non standard libraries like conio.h. (I had to draw circles, etc using get x and get y). I told them but they just don't care. What do I do because for a beginner this is very confusing? Do I continue to study ansi c on my own, or should I study non standard c? Should I do them in parallel? *I did use the search bar but found nothing useful that could help me.

• Poll on Entity Framework 4 &ndash; one year on

  12 months back (today is March 15th 2010) on the 16th of  March 2009 I created a poll on Entity Framework v1 – the marmite of ORMs? A quick poll…. Entity Framework v1 was getting a mixed reception at the time – I met developers who genuinely hated it and I met developers who were loving the productivity improvements they were seeing. There were definitely issues with v1, too many IMHO. Which is why the product team placed a huge effort on listening to the community to drive the feature set for v2 (which ultimately was named Entity Framework 4 as it ships with .NET 4). I think overall the team have done a great job. It isn’t perfect in .NET 4 (which is why the team are busy on post .NET 4 improvements) but I would happily use it and recommend it for a wide variety of projects – much wider than I would have with v1. I am speaking on EF 4 at www.devweek.com this Wednesday and I thought it would be fun to put a new version of the poll out and see how v4 is being received. Obviously the big difference is we have not yet shipped EF4 vs when I did the original poll on EF1.
