  • Apache Prepending Header Information to ALL FILES

    We're in the middle of setting up new servers, and have been having some odd problems with Apache. Apache is prepending text that looks like this: $15plðI‚‚?E?ðA™@?@??yeÔ|~Ÿ²?PγZ" zS€?8i³?? ,ÀŠ{ÿBHTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Mon, 02 Feb 2009 22:28:05 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Last-Modified: Mon, 02 Feb 2009 22:28:05 GMT ETag: W/"1238007d-2224e-fe617f40" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 139854 Connection: close Content-Type: application/x-javascript To all files. The file I copied the above text from is the prototype library js file. As loaded from our server. I've searched, but couldn't find much about this problem Maybe I don't know what I'm searching for... Anyway, if anyone has seen this behaviour before, could they please let me know either 1) how to fix it so that this content is not prepended to all files, or 2) where to look for further help.   • There are currently no logon servers available

    I am running a Windows 7 laptop that is joined to my company's domain. When I installed Windows 7, I created an account for myself, joined to the domain, and it had been working quite well even though I'm physically remote most of the time, and not actually on the network. However, today I created a new local user account (non-admin) for my little brother. While he was using it, he decided he wanted to install a program, because his account is not an admin, he was prompted to enter Administrator credentials to allow the program to make changes to his computer. I entered my credentials, and this is the first time I ran into the error message: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. I tried logging off and loggin back in, rebooting, etc etc, and no matter what, every time I try to authenticate as my "normal" domain account - I get that message. I can no longer access my computer as an administrator. I no longer know how to log in to my machine using any other account aside from my little brother's non-admin account. I don't have any other local accounts created, and the default local admin account was never enabled. I'd appreciate any ideas on how I can recover access to my account. Let me know if I can provide any more information.   • Setting up NIS/NFS on Mac OS 10.6

    We have an Ubuntu NIS/NFS server at work and we recently got a few new iMacs. Is there a way to set them up so they can use the linux user accounts and mount the shared nfs files? Are there any guides on how to do this? I've been googling with no success. I tried getting NFS to work by connecting to the server via the Disk Utility but after I run 'sudo automount' from the command line and ls the directory I tried to mount it to (Volumes/nfs) it gives a permissions error. If there isn't a way to do this, anyone know of any not to complicated ways to share user accounts and files between mac and linux computers (and even hypothetically a windows computer one day?) I know its kind a of huge question, but I'll greatly appreciate any advice on the topic. Thanks!

  • increase performance of virtual machines on the 27" imac

    I'm using a 27" iMac (i7, 8GB RAM) at work and normally run two or three virtual machines at the same time, which hurts the performance of each virtual machine. I've learned on these forums the best way to increase virtual machine performance (aside from RAM) is to have them running on a separate hard drive from the one the OS is on. Of course with the iMac you can only have one hard drive and not even an SAS or solid state drive (well you could probably take it apart and put one in yourself but I wouldn't be permitted to do that). That being said, do you think it would help to run one or more virtual machines from a firewire external drive (or a usb 2.0)? Thanks for your input!

  • What is the optimum way to secure a company wide wiki?

    We have a wiki which is used by over half our company. Generally it has been very positively received. However, there is a concern over security - not letting confidential information fall into the wrong hands (i.e. competitors). The default answer is to create a complicated security matrix defining who can read what document (wiki page) based on who created it. Personally I think this mainly solves the wrong problem because it creates barriers within the company instead of a barrier to the external world. But some are concerned that people at a customer site might share information with a customer which then goes to the competitor. The administration of such a matrix is a nightmare because (1) the matrix is based on department and not projects (this is a matrix organisation), and (2) because in a wiki all pages are by definition dynamic so what is confidential today might not be confidential tomorrow (but the history is always readable!). Apart from the security matrix, we've considered restricting content on the wiki to non super secret stuff, but off course that needs to be monitored. Another solution (the current) is to monitor views and report anything suspicious (e.g. one person at a customer site having 2000 views in two days was reported). Again - this is not ideal because this does not directly imply a wrong motive. Does anyone have a better solution? How can a company wide wiki be made secure and yet keep its low threshold USP? BTW we use MediaWiki with Lockdown to exclude some administrative staff.

  • Simple NAT router for ESX

    Hi Guys, I'm looking for a simple virtual appliance that I can deploy to my ESX environment to use as a virtual NAT router / firewall to create an isolated network that I can easily give internet access too. Basic setup: ESX Host, has 2 vswitches configured: 1 is connected to the physical LAN, the other is isolated. I need an appliance that I can add 2 vNICs to, and attach one to the isolated vSwitch, the other to the LAN, to give the isolated network outbound access (so it can reach the internet). Anyone have an appliance that I can setup quickly to do so? Thanks.

  • Patriot-2 RAM on ASUS PK5-E not running at PC2-8500?

    I have a P5K-E Motherboard and recently upgraded to 8GB of RAM (4 2GB sticks of PC2-8500 1066 MHz - Patriot Viper 2). When looking at the RAM with PC Wizard 2010 it's showing the RAM being recognized PC2-6500. I've read elsewhere that this is a common problem and requires manually changing the DRAM Voltage in BIOS to 2.2. I've done this and I'm still getting it recognized as PC2-6500. (I also manually set the FSB speed to 1066MHz instead of the AUTO). Any ideas on how to get this memory working properly? Thanks in advance!

  • Losing Windows Authentication intermittently

    I'm running a website on IIS6 / Server 2003 which uses Integrated Windows Authentication on a local intranet. I can browse to the site but get intermittent "Object null" errors when calling the following C# code which is called on every request: .... GetUserIdFromPrincipal(User) .... public static string GetUserIdFromPrincipal(IPrincipal principal) { return principal.Identity is WindowsIdentity ? (principal.Identity as WindowsIdentity).User.Value : principal.Identity.Name; } (Apologies for the code sample but was torn between SF and SO but think this is more to do with server config). So as the error is intermittent clearly Windows Auth is working on some level but after navigating around the site for several clicks I get the null reference error meaning IPrincipal is null (I thought this should never be null in ASP.NET). The error only happens on this newly built VM. The code is fine on other machines. Does IIS request the Windows Auth details on each request? What would cause such an intermittent problem? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • BIOS not detecting working SATA hard drive.

    Some time ago my power supply died. It's a long story from then till now, but the important bit is that I ended up with a new hard drive and a new power supply. I tested to see if my original hard drive was still alive, and it booted and worked perfectly until I turned it off. When I started it again it would not boot. I bought new SATA cables, assuming that the one I had was not seating properly (it was cheap and wobbly), but no dice. Upon start-up I am presented with a message telling me to insert boot media into the selected drive or add a drive and restart. Neither the new or the old drive is detected by BIOS, my Vista install disk, or from my bootable Linux USB drive. When I remove all of the RAM the computer ceases outputting visual information, and upon reinstalling the ram and starting up again gives me a "failed overclock" error. So, does anyone have an idea as to what might be going on? I'm completely lost at this point.

  • Errors generating gpg keypair

    I posted this originally on stackoverflow, but was told that it was offtopic and this would be the better place to post it, so I am reposting it here and deleting my original topic. I have a rather old PGP key, but I've long ago lost the private key for it, so I'm trying to generate a new key with GPG on Windows 7. While it technically generates the key, GPA crashes every time I generate the keypair. I've tried this four times now and just downloaded what appears to be the latest version of Gpg4Win and am still receiving this problem. A comment on my original post informed me that GPA crashes is not a very good description of the problem, but unfortunately I can't do much better than that: all it tells me is "gpa.exe has crashed and will close now", I don't get an error dump or anything. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is this just a bug in the latest version of Gpg4Win? Here are the specs of GPG that I'm using: GPA 0.9.4. GnuPG 2.0.22. My operating system is Windows 7 64 Bit, and I have 5 GB of RAM. Also, I was told to try generating the keypair on the command line but can't find any documentation for how to do this in Windows 7. If anyone could link me to current documentation for this, that would be a good workaround for solving this problem.

  • Alternatives to Citrix GoToAssist ?

    Citrix GoToAssist is a really nifty little web application for customer support that allows you to take control of someones OSX, or Windows machine. Essentially, it works likes this: You log in to your management console You get a code You give them a code, and a website (fastsupport.com) They go there and enter in the code They accept the browser applet which installs a program on their computer You have control of their desktop You can see their desktop, configure applications, etc. They can also see when you disconnect. It is really rather nifty, but it doesn't support Linux and it is rather expensive (660$ a year). Does anyone know of any alternatives to this? I'm looking for a solution as simple on the user as this one, that doesn't require firewall configuration or setting up ssh/vnc/rdesktop etc.

  • How do I get around "Access is Denied" [Number: 5 (0x80070005)], with IIS6/FastCGI and PHP 5.2.3?

    I'm getting this error with IIS 6.0 (i assume), and PHP 5.2.3, and FastCGI FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: Error Number: 5 (0x80070005). Error Description: Access is denied. HTTP Error 500 - Server Error. Internet Information Services (IIS) Any ideas, nothing revealings in logs (other than 500 errors), this is pretty much all of I have to work with. The script has read and execute privileged for the internet guest account; and, I've added read/execute privileges to the whole D:\PHP. I followed this tutorial http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/247/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60/ to set it up. The only major diversion is I installed PHP to D:\PHP

  • Strange mysql problem moving website from Ubuntu server to Mac server

    I'm moving a website (php/mysql) from an Ubuntu server to a OSX 10.6 server. I've set up apache to run php scripts and setup the newest version of mysql on the mac. I just copied all of the php files and dumped/imported all of the mysql databases (including the mysql users database). When I visit the page being served on the Mac the page is able to connect to the database, but not query. Specifically this function mysql_error() is returning this error message NO SUCH FILE OR DIRECTORY The reason it's strange is that I'm able to change the php connection strings for mysql on the Ubuntu server so that it points to the Mac server and the page works correctly (so it seems mysql is correctly set up on the mac and definitely contains all of the users and tables it should). Thinking it was something to do with file permissions on the mac, I've changed all of the files 755 and it hasn't helped. Any ideas? Thanks!!     Take this scenario: domain: foobar.com ns1: 2.2.2.2 ns2: 3.3.3.3 My question: Is ns2 hit just in the event that ns1 is down? Or, is ns2 hit any time that ns1 returns a miss/doesn't resolve the query? I know ns2 would be hit if ns1 ever went down; but, what if ns1 is up and just doesn't have the data?

  • Why doesn't my PHP install see the MySQL extension?

    So I just set up PHP (Version 5.2.17), MySQL (5.5.28), and Apace (2.2) on my Windows 7 computer. I want to test a mysql connection, but the mysql extension is apparently not loaded (based on phpinfo()). Here's what I did: Changed the extension dir in the php.ini (extension_dir = ".;c:\php\ext") and uncommented the extension=php_mysql.dll line Copied libmysql.dll to the Apache's bin directory Added C:\php to the system's $PATH Restarted the server, then the computer And it's still not working. What did I miss? EDIT: I'm looking through phpinfo()'s outout and it says: "Server API | Apache 2.0 Handler" and I'm running 2.2. Is that a problem?

  • How do I create DNS entries for EC2 instances created by Auto Scaling?

    I'm looking into using auto scaling groups for a tier of webservers that would be fronted by an ELB. One of the things I'm having a hard time with is how to give each new instance the proper DNS name. For example, I'd like webservers to have names like frontend-web-XXX.prod.example.com so their names would appear correct in logs and just ease of organization. I have two other tiers I'd ultimately like to make autoscaled and I'd like them to have names like api-web-XXX.prod.example.com as well. I have some experience with cloudformation templates and have spun up individual instances with associated Route53 records but I don't see any indication of how this can be done within an autoscaled group.
